I used to get mine done professionally all the time pre children....The pain is not too bad, there are worse things in the world, but it is not pain free. I like the idea of the nurofen charmalea!!!

They recommend shaving it all off at home two weeks before you want it done and then going to the salon with a two week growth for the first time as this is the perfect length to wax it with or I'm guessing you could just trim to that length if you didn't want to wait...

You've inspired me to go and get a profeesional wax, it's a great feeling once it's done..

Be brave...you won't know if you don't go....
    Good Luck

This is my thought too - What am I going to say to my daughter in 15 yrs or so when she asks about a bikini wax if I have never had one.

Yep just wanting to tidy things up and would like to be able to wear a bikini without a worry. OK I am going to give it a go. Will do the shave two weeks and either side of AF and make an appointment! Will def be telling them its my first time - they might be nicer to me

Starrysky - OMG I can so imagine myself in that scenario! Hope you got it all off without too much stress

I get mine done professionally, a brazillian every 4-5 weeks. TBH, getting my eyebrows waxed hurts more! And I get everything off. The first time is going to hurt, but the more times you go, and less it hurts as there will be less hair.

Don't worry, it won't hurt as much as you're expecting! I've only had it done twice and I was so scared about it hurting. But waxing my bloody eyebrows hurt more!! And it's so quick anyway. They don't keep waxing and waxing. They prob just do 2 bits of wax on each side, that's what they did for me. So only a couple of seconds of pain after they rip it off, lol. And no ingrowns!! I really should get it done regularly.

Saram - Just wanted to say thanks for your post. I use strip wax at home but have never gone to a salon. But you girls just may have convinced me that it won't be that bad....

One extra question - I have very sensitive skin - do they have special wax for sensitive skin?

Oh and olive oil works as well as baby oil for getting off excess wax!

DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF!!! That's my only advice. I tried it and it was BAD!!! There was blood, sweat and tears. And yelling. DH had to finally rip it off, and believe me, it was not a pretty picture. The story is on here somewhere... Good for a laugh, probably, 'cause it's not you.

I have not been brave enough to go to a salon to have it done properly, so for now, everything is au naturale. Maybe I'll have to try that cream some time.....

All the best - I've heard that a professional wax is really nice. Maybe someday I'll be brave enough to try it.

yep i go the brazilian regularly - def get it done by a professional.. hurts less, better result etc.
i would trim if going the braz - it hurts less and is easier for them. they may trim it for you if you dont do it yourself. the more often you do it (without shaving in b/n) the less growth and less pain you will have next time (and results last longer as you dont get all the diff lengths ).
if you are just tidying up sides (for now) you will leave undies on and pull them to the sides...
    best of luck!

JLeigh - ring them and ask them if they have a suitable wax - some do and some don't (most in my area do but can't say for other states).

    to the OP

I love my full leg & bikini wax... it is my time!! It is getting a bit more uncomfy with the bump but I have been going to my beautician for about the last 6 years (geez where did that time go!) and they know me well enough that I don't get embarrassed anymore!

I wear my own knickers and move them to the side when she waxes the bikini line. She will ask me to hold the skin taut and place my hands where she needs them to be.

Because I get the full leg & bikini mine can take up to 20mins when not pg and about 40mins since I have been pg (the longer seems to be more recent when it is harder to move myself around LOL).

They leave me to disrobe (ie bottoms off, undies on - top half intact - but I do wear a shorter top or have a singlet underneath and take the longer top off so that it doesn't get caught in any wax) and at the end they leave me to reclothe.

it does hurt - but I find the hurt is only temporary - but the time they are pulling the next strip off the first one doesn't hurt anymore!
