We've had it happen a few times....
Ad gets them off with a screwdriver somehow.. in the shop they just push them down on this metal prong, so if you can do that with a screwdriver, it usually works.. xoxo

I've used pliers to get them off when I couldn't be bothered to go back to the shops. You just wiggle them off

the ones from bigw dont have the dye in them i dont think those one are removed by a really strong magnet it pulls the metal pin out of it ive gotten it off by smashing it so maybe a hacksaw would work

I have gone back without a receipt (also self serve situation) and asked at the service counter. If you stay at the front of the store then they should take it off. They can't accuse you of stealing it unless they see you walk past the caunter with the item from within the store. Even if you talk to the bag check person and explain situation. They might call someone to sort you out.

I had the same thing happen at Big W! They were really understanding, and took it off without any questions (even without a receipt).

A couple of years ago I bought the most beautiful dress from Review at a Myer store. It was the type that had a full skirt. I wore it to a wedding and when sitting down realised I was sitting on something- it was the security tab! I still had to search through the folds and pleats to find what it was I was sitting on. My friends found it hilarious. I took my dress back the next day. I didnt have my reciept but they believed my story. The girl removed the tab and I took it home.

You might not need the receipt..I had a few items I bought for DD that I had to take back to Target the next day, was cutting all the price tags off them to put in the wash and found some of them still had security tags on them. I just said I'd bought them the day before and the tags hadn't been taken off and they were happy to do it for me, didn't ask for a receipt or anything.
If you're worried about not having the receipt for it maybe fib a little and say it was a gift?

Ahh how frustrating Ive had it happen a couple of times..
Last time it happened to me I went in search of DH's tool box and used a set of his plyers to sort of cut the pin a bit and then I was able to snap it off! Good luck

Thanks everyone! I think I'll wait till after Christmas and take it back to the store (can't find the receipt). I figure that how many people who steal things are stupid enough to take it back to the store, so therefore I must not have stolen it. Bummer that i can't wear it though.
