How to find the right fitting type of jeans?

My advice would be the same as Cailins: go to a specialist jeans shop and get them to fit you.

Straight jeans are apparently "in" at them moment (ie not skinny, not bootleg.) which I am happy about as the are flattering to most shapes and all your boots/shoes go well with them!

I went to Trims (in SA, not sure if they are everywhere?) and got fitted and found "my perfect jeans". But there were SO expensive, so I did a sneaky. I bought them, took them home, took all the measurements exactly (rise/inside leg/outside leg/waist/hips etc etc) and then got a "clone pair" made. So I got two pairs exactly the the same in the end, but the second pair was a lot lot lot cheaper.

I always have trouble finding jeans to fit my shape (not much hips!) and I find Bardot jeans to be the best! They are a very small size (so if youre normally a 10 you will probably need an 11 or 12) but they always make ur bum look great and have lots of great styles. My tip would be to go to myer or a bardot store and try some on, then buy some on ebay! And get some with some stretch in the denim, then you won't need a belt
