I straighten my hair all the time. I love it! Make sure you have a treatment though so you don't completely ruin it. I have a GHD, can't live without it. It straightens really easy (I have thick wavy hair), and it'll last 3 days as long as I don't wet it. And that's with the humidity up here. Pretty good I reckon.
Before kids I use to straighten my hair once or twice a week. Now mabye once a month! It's wavy and I lighten it too so gets quite dry. I use a moisturizing spray before I straighten to add a bit of protection. When I straighten it lasts a few days. At first it takes a bit longer to straighten but as you get the hang of it, you get quicker so during the week you can run the straightener over for a refresh.
