this makes me so sadi use moogoo, QV or gaia on DD, but wasn't aware of J&J's ingredients until DD was well over a year old
she was is hossy for the first 6 months of her life, and all they had available was J&J bath stuff, moisturiser etc....so i figured if hossy uses it, it has to be good! ummmm wrong! glad I know now for this bub! goes to show what a good advertising campaign can do....

The nicest products I have found are Miessence, Moogoo, Gaia, and theres one other I can't remember what its called but it starts with A!! Will be back when I remember it!
I normally use moogoo as a bath wash and cream. And Gaia shampoo.

I've yet to try her baby products, but I love the products from Natural Woman for my skin. I'm still working through the Gaia stuff I got given for DD, but I might grab some of natural woman's baby care products in the cloth nappy hunt.

It really does, doesn't it? I always hate being at baby showers when people give the pg person a big basket of J&J products. You can't slag off the gift in front of everyone. Plus lots of people think you are being extreme. Every mum has used them for as long as there has been baby products, it can't be bad!

it seems to be the standard add in to most people's baby shower gifts! I am far from being extreme or a hippy, but people - even DH, think I am over reacting or being silly when I wont buy J&J stuff to pack in hossy bag or for this bubs nursery!

just wondering if anyone has any experiences of J&J products negatively affecting their children. i think almost all of us were raised with these products, i know i was. and almost everyone i speak to tells me they were, when i tell them mw told me not to use powder.
i think its a case of us mothers doing better when we know better. im sure in 20 years, we will all be made to feel guilty about something we have done whilst raising our children, just as our parents are being made to feel guilty now with all the cancer revelations. kwim???
but i agree its a no brainer when it comes to products. natural is best.

Yes, most of you would have had J&J used on you as that was all there was back them. We were also encouraged to use powder when changing a nappy.
I don't have nor had J&J in our house for years and now try and have natural products for myself and the family and the grandchildren.
There is so much available these days, there is really no need to use anything other than natural products on your children

Ooh this is what we use and I love love love it!!! Nothing J&J has ever touched DS's skin. I was given heaps for my baby shower but I never used it. I did, however, use one of the liquid bath soaps (the night time one I think) as a handwash in the kitchen when I ran out and I was shocked at how dry it made my hands! Shocking stuff!

I used J&J for Joshua... didn't know any different... also fed him jars of baby food and formula after 5 1/2 months... he did have a cloth bum though lol. So, when I was pg with Oskar, I got some J&J stuff... why wouldn't I right? Used it before and was ok.... well Oskar and Elijah both have skin a bit more like mine and get horrid dry red patches in winter mostly... so I changed and got QV oil and wash and now use Dermaveen wash with oatmeal in it... has worked so well. I don't use a separate shampoo for them, I use the wash, it's PH balanced and soap free. Elijah's hair is still as soft as a babies and he's almost 2.
Re: powder... I used it all the time with Joshua too, but not for the little ones. If I do buy it I buy the cornflour one. Although I haven't had to buy it in that many years it's not funny lol. I did used to really love the smell of a powered baby after a bath though, such a clean and fresh smell about it... or maybe it's one of those subconcious memories.

Its terrible J and J are so infiltrated into the hospitals!! It's so toxic, but really how are parents supposed to know better when they are all over the tv and in the hospitals??
I use moogoo, and a natural brand called Pure Earth Noosa that she makes herself.

I have heard a lot about J&J but having said that MSDSs are always scary sounding!

I use bod for bubs (from health food shop). It smells amazing!!! I got the body wash and the chest rub at my baby shower. I use gaia moisturiser and skin soothing lotion which I love too! Smells so nice!

look in the supermarket aisles for:
GAIA (wipes, hair care, moisturiser, bath stuff)
Ecostore (washing powder, skin care, moisturiser)
Avado (also in PriceLine) - organic sunscreen, skincare, nipple balm
Nature Babycare (wipes, shampoo)
look in health food shops for:
Moo Goo - hair care, skin care
SUKIN (also some chemists) - hair care, skin care
I used J & J baby wipes for first six weeks of bilby's life. Hospital supplied them, so i naively assumed they must be safe. WRONG. She had constant nappy rash.
The day i threw the JJ wipes OUT, adn started using the simplest thing - e.g wet flannel only - her nappy rash disappeared.
It took that to happen, before i discovered an ingredient in jj wipes called PROPYLENE GLYCOL. i then actively avoided that ingredient in EVERYTHING i put on her body (skincare, haircare, what i washed her clothing and bedding in).
my criteria became to buy products WITHOUT
- perfume (amazing how many non-perfumed products, list parfum in the ingredients list!!)
- parabens (cheap preservative that causes skin irritations in some people)
- colour
- propylene glycol
- sodium laureth sulphate (cheap stuff that makes bubbles in shampoo, toothpaste)
and CHUCK OUT anything in bathroom cabinet that did have these things.
I threw out SO MUCH stuff.
But the three of us stopped itching.
my midwife said to ONLY bathe bilby in WATER and nothing else, for first 12 months of life. so that's what i did.
but from after one, i used the organic baby products, as in my supermarket/health food shop list.
back then, moogoo was ONLY available online.
i have noticed a trend in last few years, more products are becoming available that say "sls free, paraben free". and i'm starting to see bamboo products too e.g bamboo hair brushes at kmart, bamboo makeup brushes at PriceLine. glad to see more natural options, even in chain shops.

I love natural products all the way. I won't say here (because I'm not trying to advertise) but I make my own natural skin care products, all by hand using only natural ingredients. Just launched my website actually

Mmm, I'm wary of J&J too. I've used Gaia on my little guys from birth. Well, only water for baths, but I like Gaia's skin soothing lotion, works well on my lads. I remember one of them had a dry face and was not impressed at the smell of the moisturising lotion right under his nose (and fair enough) so I got some Aromababy stuff too. The moisturiser smells faintly of oats (which he much preferred), and I love the smell of the bath lotion...it's so nice but not full on.
There seem to be varying degrees of natural and organic products out there, but most of those options seem a heck of a lot better to me than J&J.

Having said that though, if the product you are smothering your child in NEEDS a MSDS, stop using it!!
