Talking Midlife crisis - turning 30...

I'm turning the big 3-0 in May and feeling my age a bit. Have just had a baby and while i'm pretty happy with how I've bounced back, I kinda feel a bit....old/housewifey/not me!

I would LOVE to get another tattoo for my bday, but don't want to do that while b'feeding. Contemplating a piercing (nothing outrageous, probably just a tragus piercing) but bit scared about that so not sure.

Soooo what I'm thinking of is a new 'do. I have a collar length, very layered/choppy kinda cut which I like to wear quite full and messy. Usually in summer I have a thick blonde foil in the front and leave the rest natural (brunette). I usually go darker in winter, a redish/darker brunette most of the time.

I'm contemplating getting it coloured darker, kinda a warm chocolate brown, and then getting a thick fire engine red foil in the front...always wanted to do it but never got around to it.

Only reason I'm hesitating is because I am quite fair (i'm talking casper the friendly ghost) and not sure if these colours would be a bit harsh and would actually just make me look/feel older??

Do you think dark hair is OK with really fair skin? I'm going for funky, not gothic

    Hey Willow,

Don't think you quite fit the middle age catergory. Sure you will live beyond 60. I have fair skin and find the darker my hair colour the fairer I look and I feel darker hair makes me look older. Your hairdresser can probably give you best idea. Good luck. Get game and go for something different I can assure you it will feel GREAT

Willow: I too have very fair skin and in the cooler months always have a dark chocolate colour. I have just had foils put in and now I want to dye it back but want to get my money's worth first (lol)

So I reckon go for it. It is only hair and you can change it back if it doesn't work.

when I turned 30 I had almost black hair with a blunt cut fringe and the underneath fire-engine red - it looked fabulous!
Suse - I had this exact hair cut when I was about 22! Only difference is I never got around to doing the red bit before I grew the fringe out. I loved that cut my hair was half way down my back then, DH HATED the fringe though!!! He used to call me cleopatra and still goes on about it now!! So I have had it very dark before, but I was a bit younger then!

Spring - I think if the colour is warm enough it will look OK. I'll talk to my hairdresser about it, she's great but always freaks out a bit when I want to do something different! I first started seeing her when I was growing my hair and leaving it a la naturale for my wedding, so when I went in after the honeymoon and said 'chop it!' she freaked!! Since then I've gotten shorter and shorter.

Sarah - oooh, where is she??!! I wonder if she'd post a pic for me....

I'm very fair skinned too and i have black black hair at the mo. I think it looks cool, espesh with my blue eyes, makes them look bluer some how.

I did have blue/black hair with red foils before which i think looks great too.

I have pretty much the same as Antheia's av actually, accept I have a "Pob" and have another big red foil at the back and one on the right side as well

Definitely doesn't make me look old!

ETA: The foils are blended in with the black though so they don't look like big chunks if that makes sense. I use Fudge Corvette Red

Hon, I am very fair, and these are my favourite hair colours. In fact, when I turned 30 I had almost black hair with a blunt cut fringe and the underneath fire-engine red - it looked fabulous!

I find that on me a warm base colour works better than a cool colour (either reddish or brown black), so if you are the same a really dark chocolate would look great.

Ask Cai - she is quite fair & has dark dark hair with funky red bits & it looks awesome I don't think it makes her look old at all.

I say do it!!! If it's no good change it back
