Thats a shame that oroton have apparently gone down hill. My wallets and bags are over 10 years old and are still in fantastic condition.....my sunnies are only about 3 years old, still going good.
Danni, if you have Oroton jewellry, it'll be costume jewellry, but because it is an Australian designer, and depending on the era, some of it is sought by collectors.
I collect vintage Oroton stuff...I had a stunning chainmail little bag for my wedding...it is a beautiful thing........
Oooh I didn't know Oroton was Australian, thanks for that Regarding their handbags: the attention to detail isn't there and they don't seem as user friendly ie their smaller clutch bags are difficult to access and the leather way too stiff and thick for something small. DH bought me a small black leather clutch bag and it was useless, the plastic zip was set in a way that made it difficult to access the interior so the first time i used it the wretched zip split and broke! And I am VERY gentle with things. So I marched back to the store where he bought it and requested an exchange, and a different style. I checked out so many bags but none seemed "right"... so in the end I chose a larger bucket shaped bag. I didn't have to pay extra because it was a sale (post Christmas)... the bag retailed for $470 prior to the sale but I received %40 discount... from memory I think they refunded me $10! So that worked out well but I'm not especially happy with the bag... it's lined with this crappy beige fake suede that marks soooo easily And even though I've only used it about half a dozen times the base of the bag has rubbed the leather off the corners which is a sign of poor quality leather... good quality leather ought to last a lifetime. However if I saw a vintage Ororton bag I suspect I would be a lot happier with it. I've yet to find a brand of handbag that i am happy with.... can't afford genuine Louis Vuitton unfortunately... i suspect I'd be happy with one of those LOL
I don't have anything practical of value - i'm a Target girls too. BUT I do have a fabulous pair of hot pink crocodile skin wedge sandals from Midas that were selling for $600 - I have no idea how much DH paid for them - but gee they look good.
Apparently he can't wear anything but Hugo Boss suits to work (its an image thing apparently!) so my expensive items pale into insignificance in comparison.
I do have an absolutely beautiful Carla Zampatti gown that I have worn to several weddings (one friend said "formal" on the invitation because she knew I was going to wear it anyway) it cost almost $1000 but it should last forever.
I also have a beautiful Oroton handbag that DP bought me in a sale recently that retailed for over 500 but otherwise I am happy wearing my bonds everything.
Lucy - my Mum had an Oroton mesh handbag for her wedding too - and it is a beautiful thing (if a little tarnished 35 years on)
TaffyLou my DH is exactly the same... 3 years ago he started insisting he could only wear French cuff shirts which require cuff-links... talk about accessorising! what with links and ties and belts and now he needs a new satchel and is saying Country Road MIGHT be ok! geeeze... I thought it all a bit of a joke and he was exaggerating but at the races last year (a work event) his boss sauntered over and turned over his tie saying "very nice". !!! I guess you gotta play the game... (secretly I do like him in his suit, so I don't reeeeally mind )
Before kids I would spend a fortune on clothes (and my hair, nails etc). I have a white linen short skirt that I paid 75 pounds for about 8 years ago which is waaay to short for me to wear now! I also have a Versace dress that I bought for my Mums wedding which i'm thinking of selling on Ebay.
Now I can't justify spending anything over $100 for an item (except shoes). The most expensive thing I bought recently was my ghd straighteners which I don't know how I lived without and they were 104 pounds and worth EVERY PENNY!!!!
Bath and Taffy - my DH is the same and he has to wear french cuffed shirts but I must admit it looks great and it's always easy to buy him Xmas pressies - cufflinks, ties etc!
