I made it again without the banana - which made it rubbery and I think i over mixed it...
This time it was alot better, but it over cooked in the bottom of the cup on 3 mins 1000watt.
I will have to try again.

we have 1000watt microwave and found 3mins was too long, I tried 2min30sec and DP said it was a bit better but could do with less again.....I'll just have to keep trying until I get it right I still haven't tried it with banana...must do that!

I just assumed it was normal sugar....has anyone tried it with caster?
Melly: I pre-beated the egg JIC I couldn't beat it properly in the mug. Although the 2nd and 3rd time I made it I didn't and it was ok

Tannis - I made mine with caster sugar and it worked really well. I've got an 1100W microwave and did it for 2 min 45 sec and that seemed to be enough.

After my post last night I tried another 2, I added sultanas as well as choc chips and cooked for 2mins 15sec......It was perfect.

Laranna: I wonder if it tastes any different with caster sugar?? It shouldn't should it? I'll give that a go next time LOL, DP is asking every night for one!

Has anyone got Foxtell or Austar? I was watching Nick JR (well DS was) and they have a 5 min show called Cooking with Lindsay and she made Mug Cake!

My friend who gave me the recipe was shocked I had made it 3 times, she pull out her calorie book and counted 1400 calories, I hope she meant kilojoules Must pop on the exercise bike more often I think. I don't have any issues with 3 minutes in the microwave, mine is 2 years old and surely over 1000w, maybe because I eat it while it is so bloody hot I can't tell the texture

hmm, i imagine its very high in cals. Each time ive made it I feel shocked im putting so many ingrediants into one cup. 1 whole egg, 3 spoons oil, etc.

Yeah I didn't think of it in that way. Is it just me or does anyone else feel like being sick when they see the 3 tbsp of oil in the cake I try and mix it while I am putting it in but I don't use a mug anymore, I use a plastic container so mixing and pouring is a challenge without the stability of a mug.

I think this thread needs to be closed and deleted because I feel like making one everytime there is a new post.

Lucky I have just started using my exercise bike again LOL. I couldn't believe that I couldn't eat a whole one, then I read it again and it says 1 mug serves 2! DP eats all of his plus half of mine. The amount of oil makes me feel sick and the 4tbsp of sugar, I just try not to think about it

I remember when I made this - it tasted oily - do you think melted butter would work instead? (screw calories, taste comes first!)

Butter has about 20% water content, so it has less fat than oil.

    oh.... my... god...

I just made one for me and one for hubby....

    sooo good!!

I think it could go with a little less cooking tho.. the bottom is a little overcooked. might just be my microwave.

we didn't have choc chips but we have some milk chocolate so i broke that up and put it in... tasty! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm best cake ever.

Just made this tonight and realised something. I assume the recipe is not of Australian origin and therefore the tablespoon measurement will be 15ml rather than our standard of 20ml. So this would make a difference with timing of cooking and it would be important to make sure that an extra extra large egg is used.

Mine turned out fine, just like I would expect any microwave cake/pudding to be. Reminded me of the cakey part of a self saucing pudding. I used 15ml tablespoon measures with an extra large egg, 2 min 50 sec in a 1100 watt microwave.

Doubt I will make it again though, it was a bit of a novelty.

ETA: this made me check my measuring spoons. Realised my tablespoon measures 15 ml, so that would explain why I am having trouble with my anzacs
