    You could be over mixing. Also try using cake flour, as opposed to normal flour, it has less gluten. Bit more expensive, but worth it.

    Agree with temps. Just remember that if you are using a darker tin to drop the temp, as they get hotter.

    Lol, you girls make me laugh. I had no idea what to put as the title and nearly wrote "funnel cakes" but then I think that's a real kind of cake, right? Hehe.

    Clever me has been using packet mixes, but I've just had a look through some of the cake recipes in this forum and I think next time I will definitely try one from scratch because they sound delicious. I actually made one from scratch in this oven once, but can't remember if it "spouted" as well.

    I'll also try putting a bit of foil over the pan next time too and see if it makes any difference. I'm always happy to "test" out a cake
