Place all ingredients for sauce in a pan and bring to a simmer. I find a fry pan with deep sides works best.
Places flour into a bowl and rub in butter till you have a bread crumb like consistancy, then slowly add milk while cutting in with a knife until you have a soft dough, try not to over work.
roll mixture into small balls, makes 8-10, dont make balls to big as they will swell once the are in the sauce.
place balls in sause and cook for 15 mins turning once.
Serve hot with vinilla ice cream or what ever takes your fancy and enjoy.
I make these for my family (we call them golden syrup dumplings, but hey, they're the same thing!), and they are very popular here too. I don't make them so often, as they are jsut so sweet, but a wonderful treat!
DP begs me to make these every Winter (Golden Syrup Dumplings) ... I'm a huge fan too
Yep, I reckon the trick is in the ' Knife ' combining the flour mix ... makes the dumplings fluffier somehow rather than mixing with a steel or wooden spoon which I've tried
I use Brown Sugar instead ... gives an extra caramel taste & also a squeeze of lemon juice in the sauce (don't know why it's just in the recipe I have, LOL) !!
