    Cupcake frosting= stress!!!!

    Hi all

I am making cupcakes for DD 1st birthday tomorrow arvo. I made the cupcakes this morning and have just made the vanilla buttercream frosting.

My question is should I ice them tonight or can I do it tomorrow morning.

My choice would be to do it tomorrow but I am unsure how I should store the frosting until the morning.

Oh and should I colour the frosting tonight or colour it in the morning?

    Gee this is stressful!!

    TIA

    Jem

if you ice them tonight pop them in the fridge to set then if you cover them the clingwrap should stick!

You can store frosting in a covered bowl in the fridge overnight.

store the frosting in the fridge over night- covered- if your going to make them all one colour- add the colour now or later- no big deal- but if you are going different colours- leave it till the morning so you dont end up with 5 different bowls of frosting in the fridge!!

Just another quicky - is it better to pipe the frosting on or smooth it on with a knife. I have little cupcakes toppers to put on top so I think either way will look effective - just want to know what will be the easiest for someone who isnt very talented when it comes to cake decorating!

i would knife it on- its good to have a glass of really hot water to dip the knife in before you put the icing on it- it helps when you smooth the icing over the cup cake, especially if the icing has dried up a little bit.

Your prob knee high in cake frosting ATM, but i would also suggest freezing or at least keeping the cupcakes in the fridge until your ready to ice. The frosting/icing goes on sooo much easier when the cupcakes are hard as rocks (frozen) or just a little chilled (in fridge).

Good luck.... i love making cupcakes....

Thank you so much for the tips. I am feeling much more confident now. I have put them in the fridge ready to ice with a knife in the morning (cup of hot water nearby).

Where would i be with out you all!!

    Thanks again.
