    Help! Cake baking times?

    Hi all,

I probably should have posted this last night... yup, before I started baking the cake... but here's the story:

I have hired an abstract heart shaped tin for a cake for my parents' anniversary tomorrow. (It will be red velvet for their ruby anniversary!) So rather than baking two circular 23cm tins for 25-30 mins at 180, how long should I bake one deeper, roughly 25 cm tin?

    Thanks!

Slow and long. Is your oven a hot oven ? I'd cook it at 130 for as long as it takes. The odd shape means it will cook at a different rate and dry out if you cook it too quick. Heaps of butter then flour the tin so it comes out. If you can put baking paper on the bottom and sides. Good luck

Are you icing it? Are you good at icing?

Thanks Tegam! Yes I will be icing it - it will be only my second go at fondant icing but have figured out how to make a pattern of sorts. I really wasn't thinking when I took this on...

    Hi Tegam,
Thanks for your advice the other day! The cake turned out beautifully, and for a first attempt at icing a shaped cake, I think I did okay! Mum and Dad were chuffed

PP what a gorgeous cake!!! It looks so perfect and like something you'd get made professionally. So what are the plans for Miss Millie's cake??

I can see the photo on my phone but will look tomorrow. So glad it all worked out ok. Did you do it low and slow?

EJ, a butterfly I'll let you know how that goes!

Tegam, I lowered the heat, I should have timed how long I baked it for... but it turned out really well. Put a piece of baking paper over the top to draw the heat into the centre as well which seemed to work a treat. Now my fam wants me to be the official cake decorator!
