    Scones...How do you do it?

I just made a batch of scones. And I luuurve scones! They never taste like my mum's but that is another thread!

It occurred to me, as I was cutting them, that I cut them in circles, just as my mum did. And that I place them on the tray all next to each other and touching, like my mum did.
TBH, I didn't realise there was any other way to make them until I left home!
DH's mum makes square scones. A travesty, if you ask me and he had never had round ones until I made them for him.

So it got me thinking, how do you do it, and why?
    Square or round?
    Touching or spread apart?

    Ah, first world questions!!

I make them both ways. Although my fav lazy way is to make the dough. flatten it out and score it with a knife. Then bake like normal. I do other shapes though for the girls to make it fun. Dh does flower shaped one for his high teas if there are kids booked in, I prefer butterflies.

Apparently touching makes them rise together.
Lemonade helps the self raising flour rise.

I personally make them round, I fold in the dry to the wet ingredients and the butter always salted at room temp.
And brush with warm milk before cooking to make them golden.
Served warm with raspberry jam and double whipped cream! And English breakfast tea!

Just learned this about a week ago. The only way to go! No rubbing butter!

    And square, and touching.

round & touching cos that's the way my mum makes them. i love making (& eating!!) scones.

ive used the lemonade & cream method & they were nice but i did feel a bit sock afterwards...perhaps a sign not to eat quite so many of them?

Definitely round and touching. I like the lemonade scone recipe which is easy peasy. The CWA packet mix is excellent too.
