I hadn't seen this till now! Swiss meringue icing would be great. Or seven minute icing. Tiers are easy. Use dowel and either a cake board or cardboard (covered is best) in between the cakes.

Just read the rest if it's a layer cake (as oppose to tiers) then skewers should be enough I would think depending on how high it is. If it's not high nothing would be needed.
