Its also called kangaroo crawl.
My baby did this as well - she was placed right near my breast and moved up and attached her self within minutes of being born - it was a beautiful experience!She has never had a problem with attachment or anything like that - I am eternally grateful to my midwife for doing it with me

Wow, now that makes sense! and how beautiful!!
I think too much stress is put into the first attachment but if we were able to take the time to experience this I think it wouldn't make it so traumatic for the mother.
Would hospitals allow the time for such a thing???

I found once they'd done their apgar checks etc.. they left the room.. and we had all the time in the world. I'm sure they can do the apgars with bub on your chest like that.
They came back in about an hour or so (think they were flat out.. lots of babies that night LOL) and weighed him then. So there would have been time for it for us. Am keeping this in mind for this bub I can tell you!
