Unhappy 1st pregnancy & miscarriage at approx. 13 weeks - rhesus negative

    Hi guys

Feeling really crummy at the moment so thought I'd pop on here find some answers & comfort hopefully.

At 8:30pm I realised I was starting to miscarry on thurs night. Being rhesus neg we went straight to hospital where very kind on call doctor asked a heap of Q's then said there wasn't much to be done except have an Anti-D injection. cross fingers & come back for a scan the next day.
After one of the worst nights of my life, the scan the next day showed exactly what I expected... no sign of baby then had to have examination

I'm really not sure how to feel at the moment or what to do except try to pick myself up & try to find some answers.

So does anyone know what the chances of carrying are after a rhesus negative miscarriage? as it's been explained to me even with a healthy first pregnancy, the 2nd try can be even harder to fall pregnant & carry.

Can anyone share their experience of breaking it to family & friends? being that we were so close to the second tri-mester we'd just started to tell people.

And how soon is it reasonable to start TTC again?

    Just sad ATM..

Hi lIssy, so sorry for the loss of your little angel. Big hugs for you.
I lost an angel at almost 10 weeks and I am rhesus negative also, we conceived again 6 months later (we werent actively trying for the first 3-4 months , I was too upset and scared of being pregnant again, but we now have a 14mth old little boy)
I had never heard that before about being a negative blood type?

In regards to telling people, we had told EVERYONE when we found out at around 6 wks, so they were quite a few heartbreakingly hard days having to do a ring around and tell everyone. My Dp was fantastic and took care of most of it.

I wasnt told not to try again straightaway, but like I said we waited as I didnt feel ready.
You will know in your heart when you are ready again.
Goodluck Lissy, fly free little angel...xx

    Hi lissy,

I too am so sorry for your loss. I understand how hard it is It is so unfair that these things happen.

I am rhesus negative too. I lost my first baby at 12 weeks as well. I was devastated and like you had told family and friends. It was hard telling them that I had lost the baby, they were all very understanding though as I am sure your family and friends would be. I got an anti D shot when I miscarried as well. I also had a D&C.

We took a few months off TTC then fell pregnant on the 1st month of trying, my daughter is now almost 4. I was terrified during the pregnancy but once I got past 12 wks my fears started to subside. I didn't tell anyone I was pregnant until I was about 15 wks pregnant.

When my daughter was almost year old we started to TTC again. It took 15 months for me to fall pregnant that time (not sure why it took so long). We were over the moon about it. We started telling everyone that I was pregnant, since I had already had a successful pregnancy the fear of miscarriage wasn't really there but once again I miscarried at 12 wks. I had a D&C again and another anti D shot.

It took 3 months for my period to return and we started TTC straight away. I fell pregnant after 8 months of trying and now have a beautiful 14 month old daughter. I didn't tell anyone I was pregnant until 15 weeks again and I was again terrified of miscarrying.

My fingers are crossed for you that it doesn't take long for you to fall pregnant and that you have a healthy & happy 9 months. Good luck!

I am so sorry for your loss. It must feel so raw at the moment.

Like others here that have posted, I had a miscarriage at 10wks and I have an O neg blood type so I was given the anti D injection and had a D&C. We hadn't told friends but all of our family knew and I remember not being able to speak about it (still cant really) to them. They all just knew to give me space and wait for me to call them as much as I knew they were upset and hurting, I just couldnt deal with other peoples emotions and questions

We did however conceive again (not actively trying you could say) 18mths later and I have a 10mth old now.

Thinking of you and once again I am really sorry for the loss of your angel.

lissy I am so sorry to hear about your loss of your little angel.

Provided this was your first pregnancy or all your past pregnancies you have had anti-D their should be no reason been a negative blood group would affect your chances of concieving again and carrying to term and having a healthy baby.

Mother's with a negative blood group carrying a baby with a positive blood group can build up antibodies against any baby with a positive blood group. Your first pregnancy is safe as you haven't been exposed to it before but if your not given anti-D for protection susequent babies you carry that are of positive blood group can be at risk of these antibodies that your body produces sort of attacking them. The degree bubs if effected varies greatly but usually it will cause jaundice or anemia. Stillbirth and m/c can occur but these are not common now actually very rare due to the fact anti-D is given routine to women that are of negative blood group. As a midwife I have never seen this happen in my days although it was very common many years ago. Mostly we see a bit of jaundice and even that is not really much more common in women with negative blood groups compared to positive blood groups.

Seeing as you have had the anti-D I would say their is no risk to your future pregnancy/s and if your angel baby was a negative blood group like yourself then their was no risk you were exposed. The earlier the loss also generally the less risk of exposure and a small dose of anti-D is given for this reason.

Also in future pregnancies they will test you for antibodies which is a routine test for all pregnant women and if there was antibodie exposure it would show then.

Once again I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss Lissy. I too am rheses negative (A-). I have lost my 1st, 3rd & 5th pregnancy. I was never told that there could have been a problem with regards to my blood type (hence the losses).
I wish you all the best with TTC.

    Post

Hi a very heartfelt Thank You for your replies & hugs.

It has been more comfort to me than you will ever know to read your replies & hear that all of you lovely ladies have conceived again at some stage & have beautiful healthy babies/children.

We weren't actively TTC, i wasn't a 'i want to be a mummy' sort of girl( hope that makes sense?), but after falling pregnant I realised I really wanted this pregnancy, & my fear over the last few days has been - now after I realise how much I wanted it & dont have it, what if I can't have it again? So thank you so much ladies your replies have given me so much hope that it will happen again for me when the time is right.

We did the ring around yesterday to some family. My mum cried (this would have been her first grandchild). All the family have been supportive, I think it will be very difficult though in the next few months though as my sister in law is due only 3 weeks after I would have been

In the course of things I have found that quite a few family members have had a MC a some stage too, and generally conceived again.

I feel very soul weary at the moment after everything & I still havent stopped bleeding/cramping & have yet another appointment at hospital for examination & possible minor surgery as a result.
I read another post on BB this morning about feeling in limbo after miscarriage.
And realise that's exactly how I feel, waiting for this to all be over & to move forward.
