    chemical pregnancy?

    hi all

i am new here. had a m/c and D+C early January and we started TTC a couple of weeks after that. this week i have started having pregnancy symptoms, nausea etc and on weds did a test and it came up positive. i was pretty sure it wasn't left over hormones from the first pregnancy because i did a test a week before that and it was negative so i assumed all the hormones were gone. anyway my hubby suggested i do another test yesterday and it was negative....how is it possible to be a reasonably strong positive one day and then negative the next? is that what you call a chemical pregnancy? i still haven't had AF since the D+C.

    any advice?

From the way you describe it, I think something went wrong with one of the last two tests. You might want to call the doctor. Good luck!

    hi tempus

you could be right- except because i am a little obsessive when it comes to tests (!) i did two on both occassions and same result

i think perhaps my hormones are just all over the place. I am going to try waiting another week or two and if i haven't had AF i will get in touch with the doctor.

    thanks

That's a good idea, too. Best of luck and if you need to vent, this website is the place to go!

i am just all over the place at the moment...i think i am coping really well and everything is fine and i'm ready to get pregnant again but that postive test really rattled me....and then when i started thinking maybe i could believe it then i got the negative one...so frustrating

anyway i am going to stop doing tests and just let it take it's course...whatever will be will be...

If all the tests were identical ones then it could be an early loss but normally you would start spotting or bleeding within a couple of days of the negative test. Depending on how far along you were when you suffered your other loss it is possible that there was HCG still in your system from that one. The earlier you were the less likely that is though.

    hi satya

i had a missed miscarriage, found out at 10 weeks but the baby made it to 5 weeks. but i never bled or had pain or anything, and my body was still "acting" pregnant with symptoms etc which the doctor said was the hormones...do you think these hormones should have gone by now- 5 weeks after the D+C?

pbstar firstly for you. I'm sorry for your loss. You may wish to chat to your care provider about your tests, just incase your hormones are still high after your loss.

If the baby only got to 5 weeks then I doubt your HCG would still be high enough to trigger a test. All my losses were at around 5-6 weeks and I had BT's after a few days to check and I'd always be back to zero within a week. Everyone's different though so it might be worth a visit to the doc.

    hi ladies

it looks like the mystery has been resolved now...AF just arrived about an hour ago. I was reading another post on here about mixed feelings and that really sums it up for me now, feels wrong to be having a period when i should be pregnant but also a relief that i am back on track and my body has recovered...i guess it is still weird that i had that positive test on wednesday though, maybe it was a really early loss? anyway i guess i just need to look forward now and not backwards and now that i have a starting point i am going to start charting and fingers crossed it won't be too long before i am pregnant again

Good luck to all of you

and sending them back to you too...have been reading about your FIL. I was on the cancer rollercoaster for 5 years before my dad died and even if it doesn't end that way i know how hard it is to live that life...sending you lots of encouragement and strength to cope with it all

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, he died this morning. But you know how it is, the waiting at the end. On the one hand, you don't want to lose your loved ones, and on the other hand you don't want them to suffer.
