ttc after ectopic & removal of tube

Sadly I've just suffered an ectopic pregnancy, I had surgery to remove the pregnancy along with my fallopian tube. DH & I are so nervous about whether it will be hard for us to fall pregnant again. Can anyone share their stories?

i wish i had a personal story to share to alleviate your worries, but i don't. I do know that it is entirely possible to fall preg with only one fallopian tube though. You can even ovulate from the side the tube was removed and it can go down the opposite tube and into the uterus! Our bodies are amazing thing. fingers crossed your ttc journey is a quick and straight forward one. xxx

Hi firstly sorry that you have had to go through this and as sad as it may be feeling now to have lost your tube, i wish they had taken my at the time of my ectopic in 2002.

As they didn't the repair from the tube became infected and suffered more scarring, this then resulted in me getting a hydrscalpinx which could have been the cause of my repeat mc with every pg since. i required more invasive surgery twice to attempt to remove the tube but they couldn't then had to wait 7mths to get the assistance of a bowel surgeon in getting the tube out. recovery was also more intense

I do know a very lovely lady who goes by the user name LisaL who had success after a ectopic and tube removed. she now had a beautiful daughter who is about 2 years.

*hugs* I'm so sorry Madsmum. I have a friend whose partner was told he was infertile due to undergoing cancer treatment and she was told she was infertile as well for other reasons though I don't know the details. Somehow she ended up falling pregnant having two ectopic pregnancies - one in each fallopian tube - at the same time. It was so strange the attending Drs wanted permission to document her case in a medical journal. Anyway, she had one tube removed (they were able to remove the pregnancy in the other without remove the whole tube) and the Drs now think she has a fairly good chance of falling pregnant if she wants. She hasn't yet as she's not TTC though.

If you have one tube removed then to the best of my knowledge, you may only ovulate once every two months, since we usually ovulate from one ovary a month. So if your other fallopian tube is intact then I'm sure you'll be able to TTC, it just may take a little longer than it would otherwise.

Just wanted to add.....you should still have both ovaries, they are not attached to the tubes as such, so would not have been removed with a tube. You will still release eggs from both ovaries. But it may be alittle harder every second month for the egg to find the tube onthe opposite side. hope i'm making sense, brain a bit foggy.
