This seems like a really supportive board and I am hoping that I can join you. Here is my story.
After 10 months of ttc we were delighted to get our first bfp in July. At 7 weeks I started to feel different but ignored it. At 9 weeks I had a bit of red spotting so went to the doctor. I had a scan and they discovered that it was a blighted ovum and that the gestational sac measured that of just over 6 weeks. We were devestated- obviously.
Last Wednesday I went to hopsital and had a D&C done which all went well. Since then I have had light spotting which seems to have stopped today. I have hd no pain or discomfort.
Now for my question....my GP told me that D&C helps kick your hormones back to normal and that we can start TTC immediately. The first obstetrician I saw told me to wait 1 cycle before ttc and the second obstetrician said to wait 2 cycles. I am not asking anyone else as I am sure they will say 3 cycles!!!
As I am 36 years old and it took 10 months last time I am keen to get back to it as soon as I can- although I obviously want to avoid the trauma of another miscarriage if I can.
Mentally and physically I feel ready to go and am very impatient- especially since I will probably be away without DP in the UK for ov in my second cycle as my sister is having a baby!!!
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Thanks
Rido
So terribly sorry to hear of your loss - of course you can join us.
Your spirits seem quite high and truly i think its more up to you as to when you are ready - you have to be ready emotionally.
I must admit though, personally I would wait for at least one cycle - just to give your body a bit of rest, let it heal and that way you will have dates correct when you do fall preg.
Thanks for your reply Kitt3n.
It certainly is inspiring to read of people who have gone through much more than me and are now pregnant or have had a baby.
I will see if I can hold off this month.....but I am not known for being very patient!
Hopefully it will happen quite quickly whenever I do start trying again.
Rido
Hi Rido, I'm sorry you have had to go through this. I had a natural miscarriage at 8 weeks and fell pregnant again straight away before I got my period back and everything is fine with this pregnancy. I couldn't find any evidence for why I should physically wait but I'm not sure if it's different after having a D&C.
Hi Rido, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss.
I had a D&C after we found out that we had lost our angel at 8w1d. My obstetrician recommended waiting for 2 cycles. He said that the main reason was to make sure you are emotionally recovered. But he also said that there can be a slightly higher risk of miscarriage straight after a D&C because the lining of the uterus may not have grown thick enough yet.
We decided to try again straight away though. Many people are highly fertile after a D&C, although I'm on my 4th cycle since the D&C and no luck yet (hopefully this month!!!). When I went for my post-op check 6 weeks later my uterus lining was already nice and thick though.
It's very important not to bd or use tampons etc for at lest 2 weeks after the D&C though. During the procedure they manually open your cervix, so there is a risk of infection until it closes again. After that it should be fine to start TTCing again. It took me about 4 weeks for my hcg level to get back down to a level where I was able to ovulate again. I hope it's faster for you so that you can start trying for you earth baby again
Oh, I forgot to mention that you are welcome to join us in the "TTC after miscarriage and loss" thread too. All the ladies in there are amazing. We all understand the pain and longing we all feel and are there for each other. Plus we have a lot of fun
Hi Rido - very sorry to read of the loss of your baby. You will find a lovely group of women in the TTC after m/c thread. I was going to say the same thing as KrystieLove in regards to waiting 2 weeks after your D&C to avoid infection. I had a D&C after my loss (and as you can see it was further along in the pregnancy) and was advised by the hospital and my Ob to avoid TTC for at least 2 weeks due to risk of infection. My Ob also said to wait 1 cycle before trying again - I asked him if it was possible to fall pregnant earlier and he said that my body would not allow me to fall pregnant until it was ready..so makes sense to me. I did spot on and off for 6 weeks after the D&C so it did make it difficult to know what was a proper period etc. We started trying after my 1st period and were very fortunate to get a BFP on the 2nd full cycle. As you can see I am now well into my pregnancy.
Good luck and I hope your TTC journey is a short one.

Hi Rido,
Welcome sweet. You're right, this is a very supportive board. SO sorry to hear of your loss.
I lost a baby at 11+2 weeks in April after it had passed at 10+4. Like you we wanted to try straight away again as it had taken nearly 2 years to fall with that one. I researched and researched and found no studies that proved bad for TTcing straight away. Even the Ob who did my D&C said no studies had actually been done, most recommended it purely for emotional healing. Saying that, even though we tried it did take 2 cycles to fall again.
Hang in there babe, your time will come and the right one will pick you.
My story: after TTC for 7 months i fell pregnant, thought everything was going ok, was so excited as was going for my 12 week scan, when we got there we were told that the had died around the 7/8 week mark, Also know as a missed m/c.
We were devestated. I was going to let the M/C happen naturally but just my luck nothing happened, so 2 weeks after we found out i had a D&C.
Bleeding stopped after about 3/4 days and i felt fine in myself. I was told it was idea to wait for one cycle as it makes it easier to date the next Pregnancy, but like you i couldnt, so we started trying again straight away.
That was all 6 weeks ago, i'm now anixously waiting on blood test results to tell me if i'm pregnant again. I have been having the exact same symptoms i had when i was pregnant before so i took a test, which came back positive. booked into doctors who said it may still be hormone in my body from the previous pregnancy. i then had to have a blood test to see what my hormone levels were, that came back last week and i was told they are still quite high, which was a good sign, so i had another blood test on monday to see if they have risen, if they had it's a BFP!!!!! I'm so nervous, i want to keep phoning the doctors to see if my results are in. i only have to wait a few more hours but its killing me not knowing.
But i'm also posting on the TTC after m/c thread which i have found sooo helpful, they are such a great bunch of ladies who all know what you been through and can be so supportive.
I hope what i've told you helps in some way and that this makes it somehow easier.
Sorry to hear your news. You have definately come to the right place for comfort and support, that sometimes others of us find trouble finding else where.
I have had 2 MCs (one month after the other). One at 5.5 weeks and one at 4.5 weeks. My GP told me both times to wait at least one cycle. I wasn't happy with that answer, as I too am quite impatient, so I asked him to refer me to a fertility specialist. This dr told me there was no physical reason to wait. However, I didn't have a D&C, so I'm not sure what the deal is.
I noticed you took 10 months to conceive. Were you charting your temp and cervical mucus? If not, this can be very helpful at pinpointing your time of ovulation. Also using OPK's can be very helpful. Of course they are no guarantee, but are definately more of a help than random BDing.
I would like to suggest you join the forum "TTC after MC or loss", if you have not done so already. There are a great group of very supportive girls there from all ages and from all over (America, UK, Aus).
