    Recently had a ectopic pg

    Hi,

Am new to this forum and have recently had an ectopic pg last weekend, unfortunately the dr had to remove my right tube as it was extremely damaged, have been advised that my ovaries and left tube is ok, I have a follow up appointment with gyno on the 4th sept and he advised he will run some tests, does anyone know what type of tests they will do. I had a mc as well in May so am so scared that something serious is wrong with me, we don't have any children yet! Any advice anyone can give me would be so great,

    Thank you, Charb

Charb first let me say I'm sorry about your losses and I hope you find support and answers amongst our BellyBelly community. Unfortunately, there are many women here who have suffered miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies - but the good news is that there are also who share a similar journey and can understand the pain, despair, and hope that go along with loss. Welcome.

    Charb,
Im so sorry for your loss hun, and for the trauma associated with an ecoptic. In a 12 month period I had an ectopic pg (I also lost my right tube) and a m/c. My third pg was a success (although I had a couple of scares early on) and my DD is now 1! When I went for my first scan with DD which was an early one at around 7wks I asked them which ovary had released the egg and they told me it was the right one, when I asked them to double check, they took out my history and were as suprised as I was that the egg had 'gone the long way round'.

I had lots of bad days where I would sit and cry and the fear that I wouldnt have a child use to cripple me some days, but somehow I tried to be positive, and with the help of a wonderful naturopath/healer, I achieved a natural pg and healthy baby, despite drs telling me I had to do IVF etc etc..

THe drs wanted me to do the 'tests' too, but I refused as I wasnt ready to go down that path so I cant help you in that area, but make sure you ask lots of questions so you know exactly what they are testing for and why.

I hope my story can give you some comfort in knowing that despite having had an ecoptic pg and m/c there is no reason why you cant have a successful pregnancy the next time.

Good luck, and take care of yourself and your heart
    Lisa

Thanks so much for your support, I have had a followup with my ob-gyn and he is very happy with my recovery and said that my chances of conceiving are 85% which is still pretty good I think! I have roughly a 10% chance of another ectopic. I have also been told that I can start traing again straight away well after my first af. What do you think? Have done some reading and heard that I should wait 2 -3 months, but dr said go for it, nothing stopping us, confused but really waiting to start again.

    Thanks Charb

Sorry to hear of your loss

As far as I understand, the reason for waiting is mainly to be able to date the pregnancy reliably. Waiting at least one cycle will give an LMP date to use to determine gestational age. Waiting 2 or 3 cycles allows you to determine how regular your cycle is to indicate how reliable the LMP date is. Its really up to you to decide when you're ready to try again.

    Charb,
My af didnt return for 2 months after the ectopic, but I wasnt ready, so didnt start ttc until the second proper cycle which was about 3-4 months post ectopic.

Good luck hun, stay positive and ttc whenever you feel ready.

    Hi Charb,
I lost my baby at 8wks after an ectopic preg. I too lost a tube, and I spent approx 6-8 weeks at home recovering from major surgery after nearly losing my life at the same time. I know that at the moment it is hard to feel confident about trying again, my fiancee and I have only started ttc in the last 6 weeks. I didn't have any 'tests' done as such, just regular check-ups with the dr, and I too have been told that all seems well 'down there'. If you need a shoulder, msg me I will try to share as much as I can if it means it will help make your recovery a little easier.
Take it easy, positive thinking works better than we think

    Hi,

Well af arrived exactly 30 days after my surgery so that is good news and looks like my cycle is on track. i know that I have ovulated this month as have had alot of cm and also had alittle pain down there too. I feel good, am ready to start ttc again and am going to take one day at a time and just try and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for all your support and best wishes to all,
