Trying to Conceive after Miscarriage/Loss - June 2009

Hi ladies,

Cherished so sorry to hear about your loss, life can be so unfair at times. Sounds like you doctors are doing lots of checking, so I hope they can give you some answers (still doesn't make it any easier, I know).

Smallfryplus the naturopath had a look at my chart and thinks I ov'd over the weekend. Looks like i'm into the TWW!! Not going to get my hopes up though as it might take some time for my cycle to settle. Will see what happens.

I had this done when I was trying to conceive my son, We had some other test 1st but they couldn't find anything wrong so suggested i may have a blockage. I found it was a horrible procedure very very painful, I was an emotional mess after it (just my opinion diff for everyone). They didn't find anything wrong, and it didn't speed up our efforts in TTC either (as I had read it does in some cases).

When I had the procedure i had not been able to previously fall pregnant. I think if you are able to fall pregnant then that would indicate that your tubes a clear of any blockage, and you may not need the procedure, not 100% sure but this is my understanding.

Okay: Coco: You have been TTC for 20 months with 1 pregnancy resulting in loss. It is my opinion it's time for some investigation. Have you seen a gynae? Where do you live? You are young, you are using opk's and charting and it's not happening. I think you need to up the ante a little. Hysteroscopy and a dye insertion will show any blockages. Also have you had a CD21 test? This is a progesterone level that is done 7 days post ovulation. The level is looked at to show weather a "good" ovulation has occured. A LP should be no less than 12 days - sometimes spotting prior to your period also shows an hormonal difficulty. I strongly urge you to get this investigated. A trip to your gp for a referral if you are not seeing a gynae already. Clomid is often given to iron out a LP defect/low hormonal levels.

Chrerished: It is false information that any other blood work needs to be ordered by a specialist. I suggest you see if you can see another doctor or a gynae - I see you are on the Sunny coast. I can help you with some names if you would like... :hug: I understand the feelings you are going through. It's just too hard at the moment isn't it? :comfort: Take time to grieve your little one - and know that feelings come and go and you may not feel like this in time to come. I had a CD21 test done (might have been cd22 as 21 was sunday) and my prog was 47 and estrodoil was 771.

In your opinion do you think that DH's swimmer test should be forwarded to the gynae aswell?

Skanky Playboy Bunny's can easily fall pregnant without trying and no doubt she will go through her pregnancy with NO probs, and us ladies here who depserately want babies with men we love and we have all the trouble in the world getting pregnant and when we do, look what happens to us! :crying:

Flowerchild, how wonderful you are to gently prompt us to stand up and take some action. I would love some names of dr's on the sunny coast or a gyno I could see... The ob I saw in March was James Orford (he was absolutely lovely!) I had an appointment with him again... but sadly wont be keeping that! I figure a gyno would be the person to see about this so please let me know who you recommend.

He is a lovely man cherished and was actually with me when I birthed my Angel Son...
He is an obstetrician/gynae as are all the obs on the coast. So, you could continue your appointment with him. He is also in partnership with another 2 gynae/obs with a practice down the road from his surgery called "fertility solutions". This is handy if you need further help. I strongly (forcefully even ;)) urge you to keep your appointment with him. All the speialists can take weeks (even months at times) for gynae appontments and he really has a great reputation and is kind. Just be direct and press for some investigations. :hug:

I've been home for hours not sure what to say our worst fears have happened we are carrier's of SMITH LEMLI OPITZ SYNDROME gene so we have a 1 in 4 chance every time we concieve that the baby will be affected, Abbi had a servere case which the geneticist said means our genes have a strong fault so any baby affected will be as badly affected as abbi so where do we go from hear they have sent abbi's liver samples to australias top geneticist in Adelaide to isolate the exact gene that takes 4 weeks then if they can't find it they are looking into DNA sequencing to get the right gene which take 8 to 12 weeks so when we get pregnant again they can test for it at 11-12 weeks they told us to not try so hard to get pregnant for 3 months to give them time to find it but if we do happen to get pregnant they will try to rush the test's for us and as soon as i'm pregnant i will have to be under the care of the fetal medicine unit and the professor at RNS i also carry the gene for bicuspid aortic valve which my 2nd son has and so did abbi which is not life threating on it's own,I was so hopeful it would be ok now i can't relax until i get past the cvs test's that's 3 month's of being pregnant and not knowing if i will be able to keep the baby as if waiting to get pregnant isn't bad enough now this i don't know if i should cry or not and i want to thank you all for thinking of me today

Hi lovely ladies,

Coco-I had the test where they flush your tubes its called a Hysterosalpingogram or HSG (much easier to say). I'd had one pregnancy already so they don't have to suspect completely blocked tubes to do it. I found it was uncomfortable but not unbearable. It hurts a little as they go in through your cervix and it feels a bit yuck as the fluid runs out after but the whole think is over in around half hour. Luckily my tubes were fine but it did show a small polyp that had not previously been detected which may have been interfering with proper fertilization or implantation. (They then offered me surgery to remove it but a later ultrasound showed it had disappeared by itself!!!) Even if there is no blockage there is some thought that any loose debris in your tubes will be washed out and may make it easier to conceive after. Hope that helps.

Ferrals honey I am sorry... :comfort: That is a really hard pill to swallow and I feel thankful that you at least have a plan in place. I know 1 in 4 are really narrow odds - and that must really feel confronting. What do you think you will do with regard to TTC? Do you think you will continue and hope for the best or wait? I am imagining you are in two minds - as would I be...

I am not sure if it was coco or cherished. But a HSG is done in the doctors surgery - I didn't find it pleasant but certainly not a big issue. It was uncomfortable but realitively quick.

This really is a sad and heartbreaking week for a lot of ladies in the TTC forum.

Thanks for the info on the fertility clinic, I called them at 4:20 but they close at 4pm, dh is going to call them in the morning. I asked dh to call James yesterday to cancell my appointment on June 22nd!:doh: SO if we can see him at the fertilily clinic we will otherwise we will see if my appointment has been filled yet. Coco - I had the Hys thing done at the same time as having a laproscopy to remove endometriosis so I was fully asleep under anesthetic in a hosp so I don't remember what it felt like. Sorry I can't help you more! Im glad you are seeing a gyno hopefully they can give you more answers xox
