Trying to Conceive after Stillbirth/Recurrent Miscarriage/Late Loss

Everything I've read and all of my doctors have said that exercise absolutely cannot cause a miscarriage and that exercising while pregnant is a good idea. One of my doctors put it best when she said "Nothing you can do can end a HEALTHY pregnancy, and nothing you can do can save an unhealthy one." Then she added that I shouldn't start using narcotics or anything, but I promised her I'd wait with that until after the baby was born. ;)

I worked out at the gym 3-4 times a week at the beginning of this pregnancy (I admit I slowed way down later...). The important thing with exercising while pregnant is to make sure you keep yourself from getting dehydrated and overheated. But at a "normal human being" level of exercise, that just means making sure you drink some water.

Tildy & Berry, you hve both just inspired me to start making more of an effort in the exercise department. You're right. It is important to have a healthy body!

Well. AF reared her ugly head this morning. The cold and thrush must have gotten the better of me. I'm a bit cut (who am I kidding, I'm devistated and plan on spending the rest of the day in bed!) but there is always next month isn't there?
I need to *****! I have a friend (well Ex friend as we've had a bit of a falling out...) who has a 2yo. We went to a birthday party last night to which they also were invited and once they arived they just left their bub to run wild. Honestly I don't think they would have even known where she was for a good portion of the night, she could have been anywhere! At one stage she was trying to rip off some ornaments that were hanging on the wall, and stood there for about 5 minutes open and slamming the sliding door. And I had to tell her off! My huge pet hate is having to watch over someone elses child because the parents are to lazy to do so, not to mention, she could have dragged that ornament down and smashed it all over her or just wandered out of the garage as people were sort of coming and going and the roller door was always being opened. Argh! :wall:

Thanks for that advise Tildy. I had thought that was the case as well, that exercising was fine as long as you are hydrated and don't let your body temp rise above 38 degrees for an extended period of time, but when I was first pg with Jasmine my GP said nothing harder than a walk 'just in case' so it has made me very nervous.

Teagz, hun I am so sorry that AF arrived, damn her :comfort: You are right there is definetly next month and it will happen for you. I know how disappointing it is when you think your pg then AF arrives, that happened to me last month. DH & I were so upset and I vowed never to 'assume' symptoms again, although I know it will be so hard not to. Its just so hurtful when you almost build yourself up to be majorly let down. It will happen for you, know that.

How hot is it again in Melbourne!!!!! I can't stand this heat!! I went to bed really early yesterday at about 6 o'clock as AF arrived and I was having cramps. I woke up at 9 and I was so hot!!! Hot flushes maybe ???.... I then woke up at 11.30 and had to put the air con on as I just couldn't get back to sleep, I was that hot. What is going on???!!!

There is a always next time sweetie, and don't stop doing all that you're doing because you're doing all the right things to get you the bub you so desperately want and deserve. As you your DH's family, that is very disappinting that they are not supportive. At least your DH is, and he sounds just lovely. He is the most important one, and you guys are each other's anchors, so that's most important thing. He must feel awful that his own family can't be more supportive... When I did IVF last May I only told my parents and my closest girlfriends, and they were very supportive. Couldn't ask for better firiends.

Jo, hooray for good results on your GD test !!!! Very happy for you hun. You're almost 29 weeks!! Wow!!!!!! Where has the time gone??? You are doing so well, I'm ver proud of you. Bring on the chockies !!!! As for nachos, put a heap of corn chips on a plate, put the cheese on, slap the chicken on and the other bits, like salsa, mushies etc.....dunno, I saw it once on TV and all I can remember the chef was just slapping everyhing on...;)

Megan, yay for the fertile period!! You'll be a busy little vegimite, he he he. I hope this cycle is yours hun, I will be praying for your BFP :pray:

Teagz, oh bugger about AF. I hate that horrible sinking feeling you get when you see it. Don't be a wuss like me and totally lose the plot. Try to think of it as more time to prepare your body for your full term baby. Are you on folic acid etc?

Megan, the only thing I've heard about exercising while pregnant is not to get breathless or overheated. I also have a pregnancy exercise DVD in which they mention not twisting and stretching too much. I think a brisk walk would be great for your mind and body - or a swim.

Theresa, can't wait to hear about your scan tomorrow. I remember Sue saying that she could see quite a bit of the bub even at 8wks!

Speaking of Sue, hello! How are you going? I like your ticker, I think I'll get one of those when I finally get my BFP. Hard to believe that you're due in 13wks!

Well according to FF I O'ed on Thurs & given there was no action as I was OS for work, there goes a whole month - what a waste! so disappointed. I am sure I O'ed on Sat though, which at least gives us a chance, but who knows :dunno:

Feeling annoyed and upset that I have to wait another month to try and didn't even have the chance to give this one a good shot :(

Oh Megan, don't be too hard on yourself hun :comfort:. Sometimes things are just out of our control. I'm sorry you might have missed the boat this month, BUT, just for your information (and I still find this quite unbelievable) my best friend's SIL and her husband were going through a really rough patch, and they DTD when she had AF and guess what......she got preggo. My bestie and I just couldn't believe it as were were both trying to get pregnant and timing our O times and so forth, and bang, SIL got pregnant at such a rediculous time in her cycle. SIL swears she got preggo that time, as it was the first time they DTD after a few weeks of being separated....There you go, there is chance for us at any time in our cycle!!!!!!!!

I played the "I'm young card" again, and I've learnt my lesson. My hopes are staying firmly planted on the ground next time around! Spent yesterday with mum, got my aunty to dye my hair a rather light shade of blonde (which I'm going to regret when I actually do end up falling pg!) and ate naughty cheeses :redface:
Today DF sat down and watched desperate housewives with me (mum lent me her box set!) And then took me out for lunch at my fave cafe. So I've had quite a good mopey weekend, although I feel like the size of a house now :doh:

First, Lan, before I forget your CD8! I hope you're getting prepared for all your BDing in the next few days! Are you doing anything special for Valentines Day?? Now that I have to wait another 2 weeks I'm appointing myself your O motivational coach and living vicariously through you, I hope you don't mind XD Only kidding. Sorry hun. I did lose the plot. I sat up all friday night bawling my eyes out ^^; Now I just feel very determined for next month, albiet a little ripped off, I hear alot of stories about people falling pg without barely trying after a D&C. Yep still on folic acid, I never stopped after Jayvan as we both agreed we wanted to TTC again ASAP. I have started taking fishoil tablets as well, so I guess on the bright side it will give those a few extra weeks to do their magic :)

I still have this bloody cold! 3 wees now. My Dr thinks I may be alergic to something and is giving me a blood test to see, he wasn't going to do it til I was pg again, so I could just do all the bloods at once but I think I might ask him to do it early. I don't want to be putting up with this every 4 weeks!

Good idea to get those bloods done, maybe you are allergic to something...? Hope this terrible cold goes away soon. Have you ever tried garlic and horseraddish tablets? I take them daily, as I suffer from colds and sinuses, and they work a treat. I don't get sick as often now, I've been taking them for the last 2 years. AFM belly is healing OK, got more sensations around the scar, but it's still raised and I wonder when it's gonna finally flatten out....

Diana, how did you go today with your jab? Been thinking about you this weekend, I'm hoping all went smoothly for you.

I have been pretty down today watching all these poor people on the telly who have lost their homes in the fires in Victoria. So tragic, I can't get these images out of my head. I just wish I could turn the clock back for them, my heart just breaks watching all their houses burned down. In August last year, I went with my DH and my BF and her hubby to Marrysville for a weekend of massages and pampering (I was still pregnant with Joshua, it was a very special weekend to remember). It was my first visit there ever. I now heard on the news that almost the entire small town has burned down and I just felt so sad. All the people there were so lovely, it just broke my heart. So far 76 people have been confirmed dead in the fires, God rest their souls. What a terrible way to die.

Beata, by playing the young card I mean "I'm 20... I'll get pregnant like that! *snap fingers* I played it while I was pg as well, but in a more nothing-bad-could-possibly-happen-while-pregnant-at-my-age sort of way. Just goes to show age doesn't always have alot of say in things, and I think you have just as much chance at falling pregnant as I have. Whether it be through IVF or naturally, it doesn't matter.
And I Looooooove desperate house wives. To the point where I asked DF what he thought of the name Dylan for a girl XD To my sheer delight I got one of those "yeah i guess i could live with that half smile shrug things" ><;;

Teagz, that's a great way to console yourself. I'm glad that your family knew just what you needed and looked after you. You're also entitled to cry hysterically too.

I am on CD9 today and I have a sore throat and feel kind of sorry for myself but have dedicated myself to pouncing on DH at the first sign of fertile CM :-) We don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day but I think we may celebrate O Day this year instead. Haha.

Megan, try not to beat yourself up about potentially missing O day. Remember, your baby will come to you when s/he is ready so if this is the month, FF may just be wrong. Sometimes FF moves the O date anyway!

My furnishings at home are basically all white and I now refuse to get anything coloured for them to eat or drink as they make such a mess. I really love them and it's not their fault but it still makes me mad.

Dee, best of luck with IVF this month. We may get our BFPs together, :pray: Those comments are just awful Dee, and DH's family is just ignorant for making them. Please don't let them get you down, surround yourself with positive, helpful people during this time.

Megan, there is still a chance as you BD on one of your fertile days, and as you once said to me, it only takes one little swimmer! Got everything crossed for you. I also hope you remain naive when it comes to IVF and go on to have healthy, wonderful natural pregnancies. To answer your question, the injections are to grow numerous eggs which go for about 12 days, then a final trigger shot then in for egg collection - this process takes about 14 days. Then they let my eggs fertilise with DH's sperm, then grow them for 5 days before transferring one back in. The rest go to the freezer for future use.

Beata, hope you're battling the heat ok. We have had some really hot nights in Sydney too and I have been sleeping on and off and waking up in sweats also. Doesn't help when you have AF as well. I take a washcloth to bed that I dampen and put in the freezer for a bit, then mop myself up if the heat wakes me. It helps, try it. Actually, now that I think about it, that's probably how I got this awful cold - so maybe don't try it :doh: Hang in there sweets, it's cooling down a little.

Very very sad about what's happening down in Victoria. DH and I watched it all weekend and I was so emotional for those poor people. My heart really goes out to them.

I guess what I was trying to say that, although if anything is going to go wrong, it will go wrong despite what age you are, but I wish I had age on my side as the older you are, the risks with miscarriage and complication tends to be higher as the woman's eggs age too. Saying that, my OB doesn't think my eggs are old or crusty (as I always put it) he always tells me off for thinking this way :rolleyes:.

Oh Lan, sounds like a lot of girls are sick ATM! Must be the changes in weather. I like your determination (despite not feeling well) to pounce on hubby. Go girl!!!!!! I truly hope you get your BFP this time around!!!! :pray:

Diana, I am so riding the IVF wave with you right now (and Dee too!). I'm so glad the jabs are a breeze like they were for me. I remember the jabs went so quick and then it was time for egg collection, so it certainly doesn't take that long! Must be so exciting to finally have some sort of control in getting those eggies produced. I always felt that IVF is very much in the hands of the docs, and therefore not in your control, but you have taken control of doing something about it, ie the IVF treatment, and that must feel positive in some way. At least you're not sitting there and waiting around to see if you've ovulated...:wall:

I just watched the midday movie and cried myself silly, this will be a daily ritual for me as they often put on soppy midday movies on (now that the tennis is over). Just what I need, a good cry to get all my emotions out this week.

Just a quick one....

I had my scan today and it was a huge relief!
I had a nightmare last night that we went to the scan and got told there was no heartbeat so I was freaking out all morning.
All is fine and bub had a :heartbeat: of 170bpm and measures 2cm.
I don't want to carry on too much but just wanted to let you all know that everything went well.

I was blown away when I noticed that you were still trying, had gone away to get your mind off it etc... I had contemplated assisted reproductive but thought it was a little premature. So I have to ask (for advice only) - what brought you to that decision? I am finding the whole TTC thing very very painful and emotionally draining. Each month I tell myself, (doing about 14 bloody pregnancy tests) that "next month, I'm not trying anymore!" But we all know that when our AF has left the building and its Ovulation time - it's impossible not to try!So I am really interested to ask about this stuff you have to sniff, why you decided to get on it etc... I am sorry if I am prying a little too much - I just felt from the very beginning that you and I were very similar in our experiences... the timing of it all, the same circumstances etc... Now the fact that you too have had a rough trot on the TTC path, makes me feel as though I can really relate. I have tried Chinese medicine, maybe baby, ovulation POS tests, I'm going out of my mind and you know the first thing everyone says is to "stop trying so hard"!!! Also, if my husband and I have to go away to another B&B around melbourne, we'll not have seen it all but we'll have no money left! lol

On top of this, two of my brothers and their wives have announced they're pregnant and I know my bro in law and his wife and going to be next. Its like a ticking time bomb... Rahhhh I hate this feeling!!! So tell me all about this sniffy stuff. I'm keen to hear all about your experiences etc...

Also, BTW - I am hopeless at navigating this site - I have tried to IM you but it says I don't have access.

Hi all, im new to this thread.
Glad to hear that it wasnt only me stuck with my mood and not able to change it.
I had my second M/C just over a week now.... My family has been very supportive, DH and I are trying to get over it! Why us? we ask all our friends are due around the same time as well as my brother in-law. Our in-laws have been extra supportive because of that matter, they had been waiting and were so excited when we told them we were expecting after our 1st m/c my mother inlaw would come over everyday to check up on me and my father in law for the first time couldnt stop crying. Its good to see that they are still so supportive and understand how hard its been for us. They are praying for us to heal and hopefully fall pregnant soon again our baby means the world to them they have seen and been throught the pain with us.

How long has did it take you guys for fall pregnant again after m/c ?

AFM, Went the Dr's (AKA My Second Home, my GP and I are almost on first name basis). I have a temp, a rattle in my chest and a very red sore throat and no sick leave but I've now finally got some antibiotics to hopefully fixmeup!! About time!
I hate AF, she's being particularly painful today, but nothing a nurofin won't fix. Surely just having AF is enough, why does pain have to be incorporated in with it, bugger it! :doh:

Hi Joselyn, I'm glad you found me and this wonderful thread. I am so very sorry you are struggling and I hope you find support and comfort here amongst us.

Sorry for the long post but will try to mention a bit of everything...

There were a few factors that led to my decision to undergo IVF. Firstly, my cycles after losing Sebastian have become very irregular and it seems I am ovulating too late to achieve pregnancy naturally at the moment. Secondly, my emotional state was being seriously compromised month after unsuccessful month and I would sob uncontrollably in my specialist's office every time AF arrived so he thought it was time for some action. My age also played a little part in this decision as I am 38.

Before taking the big IVF step however, my specialist thought we should try less invasive methods to try help things along so I tried Clomid tablets for a month which brought my ovulation date to around day 16, however it dried up my cervical mucous which made the environment "down there" hostile to sperm. I then tried follicle stimulating hormone injections with IUI (intra-uterine insemination) where they wash your partner's sperm to collect good, strong swimmers which are then injected into your uterus, bypassing your cervix. When both failed, and I hit rock bottom with a huge thud again, my specialist encouraged me to do IVF even though he was sure we would eventually fall naturally again. He basically gave me the option to either give myself the best chance of falling pregnant soon, or keep trying naturally for another 6 months or so in the hope my cycle would regulate.

It wasn't an easy decision at first but after much thought and discussion with DH, we knew we wanted a baby and we wanted to do whatever gave us the best chance, and that was IVF for us at this point. More than anything, it know it was my emotional well-being that ultimately led us to make this decision.

As for the treatment - because my cycles are so irregular now, I use a nasal spray called Synarel twice a day to suppress my own natural hormones - this is to ensure I don't ovulate on my own and my specialist can control what's going on in there. I started injections on Sunday night which I do for about 9-12 days and this is used to grow numerous big beautiful eggs. Fingers crossed I go for egg retrieval next Wednesday where they will fertilise my eggs, let them grown in the lab for about 5 days, then transfer one back in. Then God willing, I will be pregnant! Any left over babies will go into the freezer for future use. I know a lot of people find IVF hard and intrusive, but so far so good for me. Don't know how I will feel as I move on with the treatment but at the moment it's fine. I am also doing acupuncture as I have heard the success rate is higher with the two combined.

We have had a big discussion in here about "not trying" and you will find all of can relate to your frustration. It is very easy for others to say this but in reality we are consumed by counting cycle days, inspecting bodily secretions and jumping bones around ovulation time, even when we don't feel like it and I found it put an enormous strain on my relationship.

Is your cycle back to normal after losing your precious angel? Is there a reason to suspect you won't fall naturally again? Not sure how long it took you to fall pregnant with your precious daughter but I know you have been trying for a little while now and can totally relate to your frustration and emotions - we all can infact.

Joselyn, the decision is big and very personal but if you are considering treatment, I suggest you get a referral to see a specialist and have a good, long chat. I will try to answer any questions you have and there are a few others on here that have gone through IVF as well and are so wonderfully supportive.

OK so for those who don't know my story is this:

2007 - m/c :angel: (4w+3d)
2008 - Preterm Birth :angel: (DD 16 weeks early, 8 days when passed)
2009 - m/c :angel: (sometime between 5w+3d - 7w)

We're going to start TTC again as soon as my cycle starts again. Not going to follow any Dr advice this time and we will wait until we hit 8-9 weeks before we test for pregnancy so we don't get our hopes up.

Anyways - looking forward to sharing stories with you all.

I am so very sorry for your losses and I hope you find some comfort and support amongst us :hug: I am glad you have such a supportive family who are helping you through this hard and emotional time. As for how long it takes to conceive again, as Teagz said, most of us are still trying but I hope and pray your journey with us is short.

Teagz, injections are going fine. Can't believe how easy it is actually. I do get little bruises at the jab site but it really doesn't hurt. Hope you get better soon luv. I'm still battling with my cold but I'm not allowed to take antibiotics because of the meds I'm on -panadol only, and fat lot of good that's going to do.

Hope Cindee and baby are ok. Saying a prayer :pray:

AFM, well FF did change the cross hairs and it is as I thought, O'ed on Sat, so I'm still in for a chance this cycle :D. Must say there wasn't as much action as usual going on given I was away, but at least there's a chance. :crossfingers:

I sympathise with those who find it hard when friends and family around them seem to be falling pg at the drop of a hat! So many people around me are at the moment are pg or there partner is and it is really hard somedays. I should be finishing work around now and Jasmine should be born next month, it just seems quite unfair doesn't it. Anyway, need to try and look forward and hope for a BFP soon.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain your situation to me. I have found this experience to be a very lonely one emotionally. My beautiful sister has been so supportive, but not only can she not really understand - I am not sure she can handle me going on and on about how difficult this is for me. The negative results each month, the different strategies, the "I'm ok" this week and the "I can't do this anymore" the next. It's difficult for the support people in our lives also.

I understand entirely your decision to get assistance with falling pregnant. I considered it but have come to the conclusion that I will give it till six months. At that point I will meet with my OB/GYN to get some tests done etc... How do you know if you are ovulating late? My periods are right on track, 28 days on the knocker (sometimes day early). But just because I am getting my period, that doesn't necessarily mean I am ovulating does it? God I hope I don't sound like a fool - I'm not all that good with this pregnancy stuff. A cruel reality is that I only tried for two months with Grace - but I fear the emotional stress I am going through is stopping my body from allowing things to happen for us. But it is a vicious cycle...

Can anyone advise me about how I would know if I am ovulating late? If my cycles are right on track, is that all I need to know?

hi joselyn don't worry about not being sure about things i had know idea about all the ins and outs of falling pregnant untill last year. I have been doing taking my temp everyday for the last 2 months and using fertility friend a web site to help me know when i ovulate. I am also going through ivf and before that was having blood tests every month for 12 months with local gp to establish when was o day. It is a confusing process to go through but all the girls in here are magical and a wealth of knowledge so don't be scared of asking questions. I also understand about how alone you feel i don't live close to any of my family or really close friends and found it lonely when we first started doing ivf as no one really understood what i was telling them but you will get there. hello to all you other lovely ladies well i am on my meds now and have a scan on tuesday to see how my lining is going will catch up soon.

Hi Megan, oh I am so pleased to read you are still in the game! You are definitely in with a good chance - one swimmer remember! Oh hun, the count down to EDD is really hard. I would find myself staring at my calendar at work for ages thinking "I should be 8 months now" "I should be finishing work today" "I should giving birth today" etc etc. Hang in there as best you can and lean on us when you need to. Joselyn, it is a very lonely battle when you can't share your experience with people who truly understand how you feel. I thank God for the girls in this forum, otherwise I don't know where I would be today.

Please don't feel like a fool for asking questions, we are all happy to help you any way we can. As for ovulation, I knew I was ovulating very late as I was having monthly blood tests with my specialist so he could see what my cycles were doing. You are right, even with a regular cycle, it doesn't necessarily mean you ovulate every month but generally a regular cycle means you are most likely ovulating.

Do you get any classic ovulation symptoms? Before Sebastian I got all the tell tale signs - the EWCM, ovary pain etc. Did the predictor kits help you determine ovulation? A lot of the girls here take their temperature each morning and plot the data on a website called Fertility Friend. I have never used it but I'm sure someone will shed some light for you. Hang in there with us hun, I'm sure it won't be too long for you now.

Teagz, IKWYM about AF. I just go straight to napro for my pain, although my first AF after my op wasn't so bad. I only had it for 2 days and it was heaps lighter than normal. Yeepee for short and light AFs!!! Not that I like them.....How is your cold going?

Joselyn, welcome to our thread. I am very sorry for your loss, and that you find yourself here. Please don't feel that you're asking silly questions, no question is silly. We'll try to help you in any way we can. When I was trying to find out when my O time was, I took my temp everyday and charted it on fertility friend and sometimes did my own graphs, and most of the time I knew when I O'd. They are very helpful, although it was somewhat easier for me as my cycles are very regular 29 day cycles. Good luck with TTC, praying that you get your BFP soon with the rest of us!! :pray:

Cold is muuuch better. Amazing what a day of antibiotics can do, I'm very warey of getting thrush again though. I'm very prone to it (to the point where I have completely cut out sugar from my diet) but i've been taking In-Liven so hopefully that keeps it at bay! I've never heard of napro, I usually take Nurofen Period Paid Releif and go to bed with a heat bag ^^;

DD, Glad the jabs are going ok :)

I'll do more persies later. Work and my life in general is really getting on my goat today :wall:

I have bronchitis and have to take antibiotics to try and get rid of it before egg collection next week. Can't believe it, I'm falling apart at a time I need my body to be at its most strongest.

IVF girls, I went to inject myself tonight and you know how normally when you press down on the pen there is a little resistance as the med goes in? Well I didn't get that tonight, so I don't think any of the med went through. I turned the nob a few clicks to test the flow and I didn't get any droplets the first 2 times I tested, but I did on the 3rd try so it must have been blocked or something? I wasn't sure what to do - whether to just inject again or leave it so called my FS and he said not to do it again if I wasn't sure as I could over stimulate. Said I would just have to do an extra day of injecting if that was the case. Anything like that happen to you? I am so tempted to re-jab!

I've just actually decided to keep Joshua's ashes at home for the time being, I'm just not ready to let him go just yet. I feel better for keeping him at home for now, maybe one day I will do it but now is not the time. I felt so heavy and anxious the last few days and then it hit me like a tone of bricks. I didn't feel good at leaving him at the cemetery....I feel such a relief now....Thanks so much again for your kind thoughts, you're a gem.

Bugger about the pen! Hun, I wouldn't jab again in case you overdose. Egg collection a day later is much safer. Maybe the pen mulfanctioned???? Better to be safe then sorry hey?
