yes I go to amba site too but haven't been on much for ages - as this thread is a little quiet. Guess we are all so busy with our twinks ... how on earth can Lola find the time with twins and quads I will never know.
i can run but cannot hide!!!lolol
goodluck with your embie on board - didn't risk twins again I see ;)
sticky vibes babe
no sense of adventure
but still scared that it splits or I o'ed on my own as well
that would be my luck!!
ah well only given what we can handle. . . . .
I am 19 weeks today !! I have my u/s in 6 days and we finally get to find out what we are having. I am interested in how everyone deals with the IVF question, It really is very personal question to ask someone. I think I would be blown over if someone stopped me with my twins in the buggy since nobody talks to me now in the stores (Brisbane) I think I would be shocked !!! Mine were IVF but I don't really feel like telling strangers or even some people we know. Any good lines ??
Heather
huge congratulations and goodluck for finding out what you are having - make sure you tell us ;)
Well they will ask *nods heads* - a guy in our twin group who didn't have IVF said he told them I had sex to shock them if they asked him...
they usually ask in a more subtle way I find - like
are they natural ? or do twins run in the family ?...
1. IVf is not to be ashamed of anyway - I think about 50% of twins are IVF now - doesn't matter how they got here.
but if you think it is too personal for strangers ...Smile and say something witty ...
well they aren't made of plastic (are they natural ?)
or you bought them on ebay (since the running joke in our twin group is that we tell our kids we are putting them for sale on ebay ... and ask tiggy too - her paed said it)
2. Do twins run in the family ? ... yes they do ... upstairs, downstairs and all through the house.
have you joined a AMBA club I am sure people will tell you lots of funny answers.
Also, has anyone seen how many sets of dolls come in twins - there must be half dozen or more in the target catalogue ... say you bought them on special at Target toy sale !
Oh Heather!
Welcome to the mad world of having multiples!
They definately WILL ask you. Especially if they are little, old and have silver/white hair! They think it is their god given right to know!!! Not only will they ask if they are natural or IVF, they will ask if you are bottling or B/F, if they are identical (even if they are OBVIOUSLY differing sex). They will know someone, whose Sister's Aun'ts Uncle twice removed had twins and they are 21 now, so there IS life after twins. You do get used to it...or you don't ever go outside again...or you do what Trish does and come back with witty statements that shock them into silence!!!!
Twin life is wonderful! You just learn to take everything with a grain of salt, twice over. Looking forward to getting to know you!
Lola you are amazing....Did you go into labour on your own or were you induced?
I have never heard of quads being born naturally,I'm speechless.
oh ,twin comments...
I am often asked are they twins??? I answer no they're triplets we left the other one at home...
My twins were conceived naturally and I've only ever been asked once if they were IVF.As soon as you become pregnant you are open to all sorts of questions. It's amazing the questions you get asked.
i just didn't look at anyone when i shopped with my twins. Eye contact meant coversation. Its great now they are older and don't look anything like the same age-lolol
the IVF question ?? Are they natural? I would say as natural as two sperm and two eggs can be.
goodluck with knowing the flavour
welcome to the world of multiple maddness

Thanks for the welcome ladies in the world of twins. We found out we are having twin girls and I'm still getting used to the idea of two girls. In my heart I guess I was hoping for b/g twins -- I think it stems from a poor relationship with my own sister and a positive one with my brothers. I was a bit of a tom boy as a kid and now when I think of girls all I think of is "pink" and "barbies". For the first time in this pregnancy I have doubts as to my abilities to be a good mom. I have these feelings dispite having gone through years and painful procedures to get pregnant. Now, I wonder if I would be able to have a third child in order to have a boy but I don't know how well that would go over with dh -- this was suppose to be it. I keep looking at pictures of other's twin girls and try to develop this love towards baby girls. I guess I thought if I only had one girl I could "figure it out" but with two, I feel like it is too much estogen, too much "pink".
Heather
Heather -congratulations on your twin girls - right now your own hormones are probably raging. It is normal to have wishful ideas about twin genders and some disappointment.
I can only comment on twin boys and maybe a part of me wanted b/g twins too - I have three living sons (14 yr old and 1 yr twins) and our daughter who passed away at 6 months gestation in 2004.
I think now it will be good for my baby sons to have each other growing up. I know they will both fight and be the best mates. I hear people with twin girls say the same.
I don't have a very strong or close relationship with my own sister so I can understand where you are coming from but I heard it is very different with twins.
My good friend is one a G/B twinset and she has a poor relationship now with her brother and better with her sister born 12 months almost after she was. So it is very individual.
A twin mum in my playgroup is very anti Pink for girls and Barbie's etc - stereotypes anyway - you will find a middle ground for sure that suits you and your children.
Take heart the love will follow the soon after you set eyes and arms on your precious bundles of joy.
You don't have to feel you will be a bad mom - you are very honest and caring by the sound of it to talk about it openly.
Heather- Congratulations on Twin Girls. I am sure you will be a fantastic mum. I can not comment on girls as my twins are boys and I dont have a sister at all. But my twins are great mates and I find it twice the fun.
thank you both for being so considerate of my feelings in your answers. I just really want to get the excitement of my pregnancy back. My dh has always pictured himself with a daughter so he hasn't been the one affected by this. I think the idea of also having a boy did cross his mind when we found out we were having twins, but it hasn't been part of a dream like it has been for me.
Heather
hi heather
welcome to the world of twins where you will find every one and their dog has an opinion
i have b/g twins after having 3 boys i also have 3 brothers and no sisters i actually thought i was "doomed" to a life of testosterone and when i found out i was having twins i really hoped for at least one girl but prayed for 2 girls however i did get my one little girl...well she is no pink girlie and barbie girl that s for sure ....although i was over the moon with having a girl i thought that i had no idea how to deal with girls i actually had to ask the nurse at the hospital to show me how to clean a girl cos i had never done so but i believe that children are a product of their enviroment and you dont have to go for stereotypes with all the toys in our house there is only one doll and my son plays with it more than she does..enjoy your babies when they re born cherish every second then decide if u want to try again not to try for a boy but to enrich ur life more...good luck and enjoy your sleep while you can too....moira
Hi Heather congrats on your pregnancy with twin girls.
I had a feeling early in my pregnancy that I was carrying twins so when that was confirmrd at 8 weeks I then had the feeling that they were to be a boy and a girl.
At our 19 week scan we found out that we were having 2 girls.I was a little shocked at first as I thought my "feeling" would be right but Iwas overjoyed none the less.
My little girls will be 1 in a weeks time and I would love to have another daughter or 2.I actually said to my husband the other day that it would'nt bother me if we had all girls and he agreed.
Being blessed with twins is a miracle and wonder in itself. Everyone is different I felt a strong bond with them when I found out their sexes.
I finally got to speak to my mom today (she had been on holidays) and she knew I'd be a bit disappointed about not having b/g twins. (Mother's just know this stuff don't they) She was great and showed me all the new outfits she bought on sale for the girls. Listening to your stories really helps me alot, more than you could ever know. I know when I see them I will love them to pieces and they will melt my heart. Three months away until I see them.

g/g twins
Hi Heather congatulations on your twin PG when I found out we were having twins I was hoping for boys as we already had two girls and my hopes were met half way we got b/g twins.
As far as heaps of pink and barbies my 3 year old GIRL is the biggest boy out she dosn't like her hair done pretty and I's a struggle every time we go out somewhere nice but she dosn't mind getting dirty.
My 15 year old girl is just the opposite she is the biggest girl now and allways has been but she was never into barbies, I remember going camping once and she was most disapointed when she discoverd the only mirror was the one on the 4x4 HaHaHa.
I'm sure you will love and cherrish your baby girls as soon as you see them good luck with the rest of your PG.
Jean
HI Heather,
Congrats on your twin girls!
I have twin girls, who are 11 years old now.
I admit, I was certain I was having boy/girl twins with them as well and they couldn't tell on the scan.
At 28 weeks I just had a feeling it was two girls. I was right.
You are right, when they are here, you will forget your disappointment.
My girls are fraternal but they are VERY close. They have an amazing relationship, which I am in awe of. They are both different though, They compliment each other. One is laid back and the other is a stress head,One is very girly and one loves jeans.
Now they are getting older they are much more feminine but they loved to do all the things boys do, when they were younger.
I also have boy/girl twins and their relationship is VERY different from that of their sisters. They seem more...individual, for want of a better word. They still have that twin connection but it is more a brother/sister kind. You know, that push and pull of the different sexes.
We had lots of fun with the girls when they were little, we did all sorts of things and they are beautiful, wonderful creatures, little girls. I know you will enjoy them when they are here.
ETA; We also have a singleton girl who is the biggest tomboy on the earth. I can always find her up a tree and she prefers all things boy, over girl things. When she was about four she went through a tractor and digger stage. She had posters of diggers on her bedroom wall and knew all the names of the different ones!!!!
Hi girls. My name is Emma and we just found out last Thursday that we are having TWINS. These are IVF babies and I sure am very excited but very scared at the same time. On the scan they said that they are a week a part, has anyone else had this??? Im 7 weeks today and we have a long way to go. I just hope and pray they both stay there. Another scan on thursday to see how there doing.
congratulations Emma
my boys were about 5 days apart in the early scans
Emma having a week apart on the scan is fairly common. Congrats on the twins !! I'd highly recommend signing up for the Australian Multiple birth Assoc. now -- find out when their next expectant parents class is. They are so supportive and the women are just great. You will get some great ideas on what to buy and where, what you need, and some great resources. I'm going to my second muliples class tonight (the second half) and the information they offer is incredible.

Hi girls i had my other scan today to check on my smaller baby and it doesn't have a heartbeat yet. I'm so worried something is wrong. Baby A is fine and has a heartbeat of 150 and is 7weeks. Baby B is 6weeks on the dot. It has grown since my last scan which was last thursday. I'm just so stressed
Emma (mom of 5) I'm sorry you have to go through such a stressful time right now waiting for your next ultrasound. My girlfriend who had her second twin a week apart I don't know exactly which week she was able to see the second heartbeat. Send lots of loving vibes to your little one and keep yourself busy this next week until your u/s.
You are in my thoughts,
Heather
Emma - hope it is all okay at 5w 6 days I only had 1 HB but at 7 weeks and 2 days there were 2 and thats when they were 5 days apart.
Fingers crossed for two HB next scan.
My two were always about 5-7 days apart.
I asked the woman who was doing my scan about it one day and she said that they will rarely be at the same stage. They grow at different times so one might have had a growth spurt and one might be due to have one. She said they dont really worry unless it drops too far or they dont show a growth since the last scan.
Thanks heaps girls for the info. In two minds about my scan in the morning but its an early scan so i can get it over and done with. Then go home and deal with what ever hand i have been delt.
Take care ladies
thinking of you for tomorrow
Had my scan this morning and they said that there is a sac and a yoke and blood flow to the sac but nothing else and it "probably" will reabsorbing back into my body soon. One minute they were saying there is something in there that they have measured but there not sure what it is and then the next there like its not a viable pregnancy. The last two scans i have had they have given me a picture of the scans and today they only gave me one of Twin A it says. Why say twin A if theres no other twin anymore. My last scan on thursday says I was 5wks 6days and the sac measurement was 1.53 and today they told me it is 5wks 6days and the sac measures 1.80. So how can it be the same when it is bigger then last time. I even have the picture that says the size and weeks on it from last week. I have had the last two scan at a private ultrasound clinic and todays was at the hospital. Nothing makes sence and i just dont understand. I sat in the car park and cried and cried and cried
Take care
Emma
I am so sorry that you are going through this. I wish I had some words of comfort.
The growth difference is from 1.53mm to 1.8mm is like thickness of hair and different sonograhphers can measure differently.
I don't understand why they said twin A either.I can't imagine how that makes you feel right now.
Emma you have such a tough journey so far in your pregnancy I'm just so sorry you have had to endure so much emotional pain. I think if you look on the AMBA website they have a thread for women who are dealing with the loss of a twin. A loss is a loss and it doesn't matter at what stage it occurs in your pregnancy and it doesn't matter that one survived -- you are still dealing with a loss.
I am so sorry for your heart ache.
Heather
 Hey guys,
I had to laugh reading about your experience with peoples curiosity with twins in shopping centres! I am yet to experience that (29wks today:clap:). I have enough people stop me suggesting I must be due anyday...I feel like an elephant  I thought about a slogan for a shirt "Im not due, there's 2!! " what do you think..should I patent it  Take care all. Kim
Hi all! I have really enjoyed your posts. I am pregnant with twins and scared silly. I already have ds 4 and dd 2 and was prepared for one more, but not two! I breastfed and co-slept with my first two for two years each. I worry that I can't maintain that level of closeness with two babies and still give proper care and attention to my older two. Thanks for listening
Congratulations - on your twins
I still breastfeed by two little guys at 21 months (4 times a day at least) and we co sleep as well. I have an older son 14 but I wanted to reassure you it is possible to breastfeed two (twins) and co sleep. Yes, it is a bit more squishy but thye are still keeping me warm.
We have a half side car bed but it mainly stops the other twin falling out of bed - it butts between own bed and against the wall. My husband made a timber platform and we cut a foam single mattress in halfish to fit (near the ensuite doorway)
Hi. My name is Kim. I have fraternal boy/girl twins now 9wks old. I had them naturally and they weighed 7lb 1oz and 7lb 3oz (induced at 39wks) I so agree with the shopping centre thing...sometimes it is nice but most of the time I get asked the dumbest questions and to do 1hrs shopping takes me closer to 2hrs! Can be really frustrating. As for the breastfeeding...I chose not to due to probs with my first two girls (now 7yrs and 3yrs). I find I still have a great closeness with all my children although it can get pretty hectic when they all demand my attention. I just remind myself that I would not have been given anything that I am not capable of handling. Keep believing in yourself and try, as hard as it is, to give yourself a little "me" time. (At the moment it is a physio for me) A hairdressers appt or a massage?? Ha...it does help for me?! I figure if I look after myself I am more capable of giving my children the high level of care they deserve. Take care all.
Hi guys, wow, it is so nice to read about how all of you are coping and enjoying it despite it being hard. I have recently found out that we are having twins and initially I was excited, but now I am scared and worried. Is this the normal kind of rollercoaster for pregnancy with twins and will I be able to cope?
love
Our twins are 2.5 weeks old and we have an almost 2 year old as well. I was scared silly when I found out we were having twins since I didn't cope very well with the newborn stage last time - but to be honest, it has actually been easier this time around. It is still hard, of course - and they're still in that nice, sleepy newborn stage - but it is nowhere near as difficult as I imagined. Have confidence in yourself - you might be surprised how well you manage.
Congrats to you both..Helen and Elanor!!!! My twins are now 4mnths. I have a 3yo and 7yo too. I have my moments but to be totally honest, I have suprised myself how well I have coped. I guess the right attitude helps. "You are lucky to be blessed with twins!" Sometimes I dont know where my patience comes from but to look at their innocence just melts you back to calm, most of the time. Ha ha  My son is trying to roll over and my daughter is trying to sit up already. Guess it wont be long and they will be on the move!!! HELP!! They both sleep through the night now...Thank God! Great to hear good news from you both. Take care. Take a deep breath and prioritise life, enjoy what you are fortunate to have. Lotsa love Kim.:D
Thanks Hannahfrooddo and Kim, the ages of your older ones are very similar to mine so it helps to know that you guys are doing well.
Kim-my hubby and I have had the talk about when they are on the move. If just one of us is home, we have decided that if they go in opposite directions it will be a quick mmmm which one is heading to the most danger and that will be the one we grab first.LOL.
 That is so funny Helen. What else could you do.. I remember as soon as I had the babies and they both cried at the same time I would assess which one was most in need and pick up that one first. You work it out and so do they!!! Hope you are well and look forward to chatting with you more...when I get a chance!!! By the way...are your older children g or b's? I have 2 girls. No, 3 now!! Ha! :D
