Hi guys, and hi to the newbies.
I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for their kind words when I was going through an emotional time, it really helped, and even though I didnt post straight back it meant a lot to me and helped.
Belly rubs to all.
Goodluck for those having growth scans I have mine this Thursday.
Have fun seeing your little bubbas again on thursday helen!
Not long to go now Cathie- hang in there you have done an amazing job!!!
Shell how did you go getting into seeing the OB in between now and when your next appointment is. Its not long to go till the 30th of Sep now!
take care girls and belly rubs to you all!
Thanks Odette, I am soo excited.
Had a mini panic attack last night when I realised that I am 28 weeks this weekend and down to fortnightly visits. Even though I am getting sick of myself and it feels like I have been pregnant FOREVER, it is flying all of a sudden and I havent even nearly gotten everything done. At least I have most of my boys and unisex baby clothes washed. Havent done the girls ones yet, but I'll get there.
Take care
Morning Ladies,
Helen - Hope your growth scan shows that your babies are growing wonderfully.
And you still have plenty of time to get organised....just do a bit at a time.
Odette - I will be seeing the OB either today or tomorrow, but only after seeing my local GP yesterday with severe swelling of the feet, ankles and calves. I had some bloods taken yesterday and have to collect urine for 24hrs to check for protein. She has asked the clinic at the hospital to see me also, although I have not heard from them with an appointment time yet
I will be back to the GP this morning anyway as this morning the swelling has spread to my hands and face. BP was fine yesterday and there was no protein present in urine. Can pre-eclampsia start with just the swelling?
Cathie - How are you doing? Are you still hanging in there?
:bellyrubs: to all
Shell
Shell-Thanks, I am trying to calmly do little bits and pieces. That sounds awful about all of the swelling you have got, let alone the fact that you are probably really uncomfortable. I think that you can get swelling without the pre-eclampsia. It's good though that they are monitoring you and keeping an eye out for it, it means that if you do develop it, hopefully they will be able to manage it so you can get further into your pregnancy. I really hope that everything goes ok at the dr today, if you can let us know how you went. Huge hugs.
:)Good morning lovely ladies.
Yes I am still here.:) I'm 36 weeks this week and I see the Ob today. So next week I have decided to bring on the tears with the OB in hope that he may Induce me as I'm so over it and the babies are good sizes. Two weeks ago the boy weighed 6l 5o and my little girl was 5l 9o. So we will see what happens. I hope everyone is going well.
Look after yourselfs. Well off to work I go.
Cathie:hug:
Cathie, Shell and Helen,
U go girls. Great jobs!!! Hope you are all handling well. Thinking of you and feeling for you all. My twins are fraternal b/g and were 7mnths yesterday. Time flies when you are so busy. My husband has been going away a fair bit lately for work and I have been extra busy...school, pre-school and the twins to contend with alone!!! It is incredible what you can contend with when you just have to. I think it takes me a whole 3 mins to crash at night once all are settled. HA! Take care all. Kim XXX
Hi Kim and thanks for the well wishes. I hear you about taking 3 mins to crash at night, I am like that already and mine aren't even born yet...sometimes I am in bed before my kids :p
Helen - How did the scan go yesterday? Hope they are growing well.
Cathie - Hope you are hanging in there - how did your OB appointment go?
I have been monitored earlier in the week for PE, however at this stage it just appears to be severe pitting odema. So my feet are like balloons! There go my chances of taking the kids to the melbourne show tomorrow :(
I have been advised to keep a close eye on things and notify the clinic if I develop any further symptoms. On the plus side, because of the swelling I will now be having weekly appointments, which will ease my mind a little.
33 weeks today
Hope everyone is well
Shell
:DHi Girls,
Well all is fine with me 0nly that my appointment was 2.45pm and he did'nt see me until 3.45pm, my hubby was really impressed (NOT).
HOPE all is well shell.
:hug:Cathie
Cathie-That sounds like some good weights for your babies. What did your OB say about inducing you? I hate it when it's a long wait, eek for your hubby. Glad to hear that things are fine though.
Kim-You definantly sound like you have your hands full. I am expecting fraternal b/g twins and we already have a girl and boy so we will have even no.s. How old and what sexes are your other children?
Shell-So GLAD to hear that you dont have PE. It still sucks about the swelling though, but as you said it will be nice to see the dr weekly. I think going to the Melbourne show would definantly be a feat and a half as it is without all of the swelling.
My scan went well. EDD is 13 Dec. Boy measures EDD 15dec, so 2 days ahead, last scan he was 7 days ahead. Girl measures EDD 10 Dec, so 3 days behind, last scan she was right on EDD. So all in all they are growing really well. The boy is presenting first in breach and the girl is head down.
My cervix was measured twice, first was 2.3cm and the 2nd with me pushing babies onto my cervix was 1.6cm. Now I have my OB appointment on Tuesday, but just wondering if anyone can shed some light on these measurements. I know that it has shortened but just wanting to compare and get some ideas from other twin mummies who may have had their cervix measured.
Take care all.
Helen glad to hear the scan went well and babies are growing well
OMG OMG OMG OMG
My 13 week scan yesterday was
AWESOME
Sorry as you can tell I am a little bit excited
Both Twins are doing fantastic, both measured about 7.5cm from head to bum and had brilliant heartbeats.
Twin 1 - was extremely co-operative and was in the right place for the lady to get the measurements on the neck, whereas TWIN 2 was being rather temperamental and would not stay in the right place
The measurements were 1.52mm and approx 1.63mm, so all looks really good.
One thing the lady did say was that both of the placentas were very low lying, but we will find out more at the next scan.
We got lots of Happy Snaps to bring home and show to the family as well.
To top my day off, we have a fair idea of the sexes as well. The lady told me that she was 99.99999% sure of them. Hubby agreed as he saw the same things as she did. We are not going to be stupid and go out and buy colour appropriate clothes until after the 20 week scan to play it safe.
WE ARE SOOOOO EXCITED

SamOake-A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS, glad to hear that everything went well at the scan. Whoohoo on having an idea of sexes.
Shannon-Thanks, when do you have your next scan?
I have had it! LOL just tired etc, I am sure you all know what I mean.
:DHi ladies,
Glad to hear that everyone is doing fine, gee we have lots of mummies having twins.
I have one question to ask, I'm 37 weeks and it's starting to hurt now with all the pressure of the babies . Did it hurt anybody else at the stage?
Cathie:hug:
:DHi
Went for other ultrasound today and OMG the twins are growing sooooo well, my little boy is 7lbs and my little girl is 6lbs, I'm scared now I have to push them out:cryinglaugh:
Cathie
Hey Cathie - those are great weights, how much longer will you be allowed to go? Will they induce you or just let you go?
SamOake - Congrats on a great scan!
Helen - Hope you are well.
Things here are ok - the swelling is still an issue and have been in a few times to have BP, etc checked....it's starting to be a real pain.
Cathie - I can't imagine how you must be feeling....I am so uncomfortable and over it all. As much as I would like them to bake a little longer, I would also love to have my body back. I have another appointment tomorrow, but my next growth scan isn't until nearly 35 weeks.....thats 6 weeks between scans, so I have no idea what sizes they are. Oh well, hopefully tomorrow I can find out how far rhey will let me go, etc.
 and :bellyrubs: to all
Shell
Ok firstly a quick update. Had my Ob appointment today. I dont have gestational diabetes, the 2nd test came back perfectly fine, and all my iron levels etc are good, no worries there. Scan results from the twins were good, they are both approx 2lbs and they both scored 8/8 on some test thing they do. So they are doing all the things that a singleton would do and also the same size. My cervix is shortened and funnelling is shown(sorry dont know what they mean, but I dont think it is good). So today I went and had my first steroid shot, so I have a bit of an achey leg now, and I have the 2nd one tomorrow. There is a reasonable chance I will go into early labour, so they want to make sure that everything possible is done to help now. I am hoping to get to 34 weeks. But it would be nice to get to at least 36 weeks.
CathieW:Wow that is a great size set of twins!
Shell:Bet you cant wait to have that scan done! Sorry to hear that swelling is still an issue. Must be a pain getting BP checked all the time, but at least they are keeping an eye on you.
Hey all. Glad to hear you are all hangin in there. My little boy is really getting around now and starting to try and crawl..help!!! My girl is still happy to roll around but she is getting faster!! I sympathize with you all and how you are feeling. My OB let me go to 39wks and induced me. I was in tears with discomfort from 34wks+ daily...not nice but, not forever. Keep hanging in there girls, you are all doing well.
Just to answer the cervix q...I was given a course of steroids at 26wks because my cervix was only 1cm long and OB was concerned about early labour but that was not to be and both bubs were over 7lb and both were 51cm long. Nature is a strange thing, you never really know what to expect but you are all doing a great job incubating those precious bundles and it is all worth it!! Take care all. Kim.xxx
 Hi girls,
Well I went for my OB appointment yesterday and I explained to my Ob that I'm working full time and I'm looking after 3 children I would like to be induced. He checked me out and I'm already 4 cm dilated so he booked me in for next tuesday to be induced unless I go before hand. I'll be 38 weeks next week.
Weare very excited:D
Cathie
Cathie:OMG how exciting nearly already half way there alread. 4cm!!! Hope everything goes well for you.
Kim:Thanks for that news, it has made me feel more confident. Now if those niggles and tightenings would go away I would feel heaps better, but I have a feeling I will have them all the way through.
Cathie - OMG - How on earth are you still working full time? You poor girl, you must be exhausted!!!!, and looking after 3 kids - you need a medal.
Yay for already being 4cms dilated though and at least now you have a deadline. Tuesday will be here before you know it, although I hope you go on your own before then anyway. I will have my :crossfingers: for you. Can't wait to hear the good news!
Helen - Glad to hear that you are hanging in there and that your scan results were good, hope your leg is feeling a bit better, how did the second one go?
Kim - Thanks for keeping an eye on us, although by the sounds of it you will need to be keeping both eyes on your two very soon!
I am freaking out a bit, I had an appointment at the antenatal clinic this morning and still have to wait until next Wednesday to meet the OB who we are booked under for delivery (Also the only one who will let you try for a vaginal birth), however had a quick discussion with the guy I saw today and he seems to think that it should be fine, but that I will have to have an epidural. Apparantly even though they are both head down, the second twin can move after the first is born and may need manual extraction - sounds great doesn't it? My problem is I am terrified at the thought of an epidural and to be honest I am more scared of that than the thought of them 'going in' after the second twin. Has anyone birthed both twins vaginally without an epidural?
Well keep well ladies.
Shell
Shell-Although I havent given birth to twins, I have had an epidural. I was one of the people who was completely adamant that I would not have one, but am glad I did. They gave it too me in amongst my strong contractions, so I didnt feel a thing.
Have you thought about asking them to see how the labour is progressing before they put one in and if they do, can you request no drugs be put through until absolutely necessary.
2nd needle was fine, no where near as bad. My hips and pelvis though are loosey goosey and causing havoc.
Take care ladies.
hey there
sounds like we are gonna have some twins born soon
Shell- as far as the epidural goes- you would be hard pressed to find a doc to let you VB twins without an epi. However, you can asked for it to be put in place, but not topped up. That way if they need to turn twin 2 or get them out in a hurry, the epi is allready in place and they just have to give more med.
All the people that i know that have had VB twins have had to agree to this. It is quite common for twin 2 to turn after twin 1 has been born as all of a sudden it has all this room to float in. Manually turing twin without medication on board wouldnt be very pleasant!!
Also i have had friends that have birthed 1 twin VB and then the other twin has had to come out via a ceasar. With the epi in place, they just have to top it , otherwise its a full GA.
I know you will be fine, but unfortunately twin births have soo many variables that can come into play, so the docs like to have all bases covered so that they can take decisive action if needed, quickly and with as less pain for mum as well!
good luck and you should have your babes in your arms very soon!!!
odette
:dance:Hi
Well Ihad a show today rang the hospital and they said come in when I start having contraction or when my water brakes.
Shell - My Ob explained to me that I will need an Epi just incase Twin B turns and it's not much fun for mum when they have to go in and turn the baby. If I have to have one I will.
Cathie
oh, you have got me all excited to hear some news Cathie. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.
good luck Cathie!!
I was another one in tears everynight at the [rospect of another night of pain and discomfort. it is hard but it's soooo worth it if you can carry your babies to 37+ weeks and avoid scn.
my girls were diamniotic, dichorionic and they are identical. we did a cheek swab dna test to confirm. (for $150 - I don't think they are still recruiting for the tooth emergence study unfortunately)
Shell - I know of a couple of people who had a VB for twins without the epi - and even 1 lady who had to have an internal manipulation of twin 2 and did it without an epi so it is possible.
I was adamant that I wouldn't have an epi. and my OB had reluctantly agreed with my wishes. As it turned out, my babies were born on the weekend so I didn't have my regular OB - the one I did have argued with me over my decision not to have the epi - even said 'it won't be very nice for me if I need to stick my hand into your uterus to get twin 2 out if you haven't had an epi' which made me so angry - WTH?? he's an OB - it's his JOB! I don't care if he doesn't think it's very nice... anyway, I was in tears for a lot of my labour thanks to the whole situation and ended up having the epi in the end because they just wore down my resolve for so long at a very emotionally vulnerable time.
have to say I HATED the epi experience. felt like labour was happening TO me and I had no control. in the end, twin 2 didn't turn and was born all on her own with no complications 8 minutes after her sister. after experiencing an unmedicated birth with my first baby, I would never ever recommend the epi to anyone.
anyway - that was my experience. My point is, if you don't want an epi - hire yourself an independent midwife instead of an ob. or at least hire a doula so you have someone to stick up for you. I wish I had!! it can definitely be done without an epi - regardless of the scare tactics OBs try to employ.
Ohhh Cathie - You are so very close no. You have done a fantastic job baking those babies for so long. I hope you have an amazing birth and are holding your precious babies in no time. Look forward to hearing some great news.
Helen - Hope you are doing well.
Odette - If I have to make a choice between an epi and a GA, I will definately choose the GA. The thought of someone sticking anything anywhere near my spine just FREAKS ME OUT BIG TIME!!!!
Hannah - Thanks so much for your reply. I am so disgusted to hear about the way you were treated during your labour and that someone could make you feel so bad at what should be a wonderful time. I can't believe he had the nerve to sayOMG! Like it would be any more pleasant for you - besides its your body! - Arggghhhh:
'it won't be very nice for me if I need to stick my hand into your uterus to get twin 2 out if you haven't had an epi'
It makes me frustrated to think that in this day and age we have less control over the way we want our bodies to birth our babies than we have in the past.
I will be seeing my OB next Wednesday and will be sticking to my guns. I'm not sure what will come of it, but I will just have to wait and see.
There is no way they can give me an epi without my consent, so I guess I have that on my side. I have already warned my husband that there may be pressure put on at the time - his response was "I have to live with you", so I'm guessing he won't cave.
On a brighter note I am officially 34 weeks today
Take care ladies, chat soon
Hey Cathie, how exciting for you!! Good luck, embrace the moment!
Helen, I was so against an epi. Both twins were head down but I was advised strongly to consider it incase the 2nd twin turned. I was induced and was suffering very strong and very rapid contractions with little dilation happening.Grr. My first 2 bubs were drug free v deliveries but after 12hrs of intense contractions and having my waters broken manually I started to consider it?! I pushed on to 6cm and my ob insisted it best. I did not feel much pain, it was more psycological for me because my contractions were very rapid and severe. At 8cm I caved. Glad I did now because 2nd twin did not move down after 1st twin was born and after much manual assistance she was born a whole 1hr later.
Hi Girls,
I understand that people are not for an Epi and I've had 3 births with gas, But If I have to have one I will for my sake and for my babies.
Cathie:hug:
Cathie,
I totally agree with what you just said. I don't think it is a good idea for anyone to go into labour being absolutely adamant that they want something one way or another. I think you have made the right decision. If you need to have one, then do. If not, don't. But keeping an open mind is always best as anything can happen as we all know.
Best of luck,
I know what a wonderful time you have to look forward to - holding those two precious bundles is the best feeling ever.
Debbie
hello.
how on earth could i have missed this thread.
my name is Kristy i have a 19 month old son named Isaac and 3 month old Faternal Twins named Caleb and Sebastian.
they were born at 34+5 weeks by emergancy c/sect, tho i was going to have a c sect anyway it just wasn't surposed to be that early. they had few small problems but nothing too serious.
i hope to get to know you all soon.
kristy
Welcome Kristy, wow what a trooper. You must be so busy with 3 under 2. Glad to hear that their problems werent too serious when born. Did you get to take them home with you?
Cathie-Take care hun, thinking of you, sending heaps of labour vibes your way.
Hi Helen, thanks na we had to leave them in NICU for 2 weeks 2 days. i had a placenter rupture and Calebs lungs filled with blood. sebi was breach so avoided most of it. they weighed 2.4 & 2.5kg. now at 3 months they wigh about 5kg each.
Isaac is pritty good with them and is a good baby himself (well most of the time) so its not too bad with 3 under 20 months.
Cathie nice to see you again good luck and take care.
:DHi Girls,
I'm still here,
Hi Kristy how are you going? Sorry I haven't been in touch still working at preschool. Very busy.
Cathie:dance:
Kristy-OMG how scary for you. They were good sizes, however still so tiny I bet. Glad to hear that the boys are all good.
Cathie:Sending you more labour vibes, not long now!
Am sick of peeing and having to roll over every 20mins during the night, I swear I am getting no sleep. Only 8more weeks.
CathieW-Just incase I forget to come on here later, all the best for your induction tomorrow. I hope it all goes smoothly for you. I cant wait to hear the news that you have both bundles safely in your arms.
I have been to see my Obstetrician this morning for my 14 week check up. He is really happy with how the pregnancy is going. I am currently measuring at 18 weeks and I got to hear both heartbeats as well. So even tho I want to murder my other two children, all is going well.
Good luck Cathie for the induction, hope all goes really well xx
SamOake - Glad to hear that your appointment went well.
Cathie - The fact that you haven't posted has me hopeful that you will not need to be induced, however either way it won't be long now. All the best for a wonderful birth and you will be holding your beautiful babies before you know it. I will be thinking of you.
:hello: to everyone else.
Not much to report here - I have a scan tomorrow and then an OB appointment on Wednesday, so at the moment I am just hanging in there.
:bellyrubs::lol:HI
Well tomorrow is the big day, I'm a little scared but also excited. Thanks for all the support. You won't hear from me until I get out of hospital.
Cathie
