Actually it is very important to express for comfort in this situation. It is probably too late for you M2R but in case others read this thread later, engorgement puts a mum at a big risk of mastitis. Weaning cold turkey is not ideal, but in any case while weaning, the breasts should be emptied enough so that they are not uncomfortably full and lumpy. Because the breast isn't being drained, the supply will still stop, and this reduces the risk of mastitis.
