We had the usual wedding march for me walking down the isle. But I have been to a wedding where there were a violinest (sp!!!) that played a very light classical tune - that was absolutely beautifull. It was not tradisional and not a know tune, but in the setting - gorgeous!!
For our first dance we had a song written by a local South African artist, so that would not be good for you. I loved it and everytime I hear it on the radio, I get tears in my eyes.
I think what you can do is cruise the music shops, ask the shopassistant to help you chose some titels and have them play it for you. You can even do that in your local library, or google it. The more songs you here, the better you will know what you like and what will stick with you. And then you and DF can chose together.
    Hope you get something!!

have you got a favourite song or artist that the two of you share? You could choose artists that you both like and listen to them at home and narrow down your selection - it might be a fun night for the pair of you!

I walked down the aisle to a song that DH and I first realised we both liked when we were dating... the words held meaning to us, so we had it played acoustically for me to walk down the aisle to, and we danced to the real version as our 2nd bridal waltz song.
It was Everlong by Foo Fighters... we loved the verse "If everything could ever feel this real forever, if anything could ever be this good again... the only thing I'll ever ask of you, you've gotta promise not to stop when I say when"

Ohhhh... I am getting all emotional just thinking about it!!! lol
I am sure you and your DF will find the most perfect songs for your wedding too.

We had an instrumental by The Corrs for walking in because its just a nice peice of music that we liked, Satelite by Dave Matthews Band because we love them, Yellow by Coldplay to walk out and we both love Ben Harper so danced our waltz to By my Side. We just sat down one day and went through our music collection and chose music that we loved and was special to us and refelcted who we are rather than looking at traditional and romantic music as such.
    Good luck - its tough!!

Well the songs that we like are all 'doft doft' dance music so I dont think that it would be good toi walk down the isle to that! LOL I think we just gotta keep listening to the radio or mybe go to a music store.

I think the music is a very important part of a wedding so you have to put some thought into it and find songs that you both like and can agree on.

I walked down the garden "aisle" to "for baby (for Bobby)" by John Denver. My mum is a huge John Denver fan and I always said I'd use one of his songs at our wedding (was the least I could do they were paying for the wedding and the honeymoon). It was also an incredibly romantic song and perfect for an outdoor wedding as ours was.
    It's lyrics go:
I'll walk in the rain by your side
I'll cling to the warmth of your hand
I'll do anything to help you understand
I'll love you more than anybody can.
And the wind will whisper your name to me
little birds will sing along in time
leaves will bow down when you walk by
    and morning bells will chime
I'll be there when you're feeling down
to kiss away the tears that you cry
I'll share with you all the happiness I've found
a reflection of the love in your eyes....... etc etc.

Song while signing the register was "Everything I do" by Bryan Adams.... you know the one.... "Look into my eyes and you will see what you mean to me". It had just been in a movie at the time and everyone was using it in their weddings. Also very romantic.

First dance was to "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. This was a last minute decision as it was a lunch time wedding and we were not planning on dancing but the MC convinced us we would regret it if we didn't do it.

Also a couple of Shania Twain's songs are great for weddings. "From this moment" would be ideal for any wedding. "You're still the one" is ideal for people who have had a rocky relationship before getting down the aisle or who perhaps have had a relationship that others thought wouldn't survive because of it's reference to "they said I bet they'll never make it".

It's a day you will look back on forever so it needs to be romantic. When I got married all those years ago none of the songs we used were favorites of ours as our music tastes differed but we realised the value of romantic songs at a wedding and chose accordingly. We chose carefully and never regretted the song choices.

    Good luck.

I walked up the aisle to Andrea Boccelli's "Con Te Patiro" - the English title is "time to say goodbye", but it actually means 'I will go with you'. The lyrics, if you look up on the internet the english version, are really nice - lots of meaning in that song! Must have the original full Italian version though - the ones in English with duets and stuff just aren't quite as good.

While singing the register we had "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a wonderful world" by some huge hawaiian man (sorry, but his name is just completely unspellable!) - if you watch the movie '50 first dates', it is the song at the end. Also a really nice song...

Our first dance was to "Icecream" by Sarah McLachan - you can't tell by the title, but it is a love song! the lyrics go:

your love is better than icecream
better than anything else that i've tried...
    (some other words...)
your love is better than chocolate,
better than anything else that ive tried
    (and a bit more...)

We both really like sarah McLachan, and really, is there anything much that is better than icecream and chocolate?

Ok, just found the Hawaiian mans name - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole... good luck to anyone trying to spell or pronouce that name!

Whatever you end up having, just make sure that you have a fantastic day

i'll apologise in advance for the long post! i sat down with my SIL and her massive music collection and picked a heap of songs that had some great lyrics - DH and I then sat down and listened to them all, picked the ones we both liked, and worked from that

we ended up using Rascal Flatts "Day Before You" as the song i walked down the aisle too - the words in it are about how we wished we'd not had so long without each other but we'd never change it because everything that happened before we'd met led us to be who and where we were at that point - exactly where we wanted to be - just found the words for you

"I had all but given up on finding
The one that I could fall into
    On the day before you
I was ready to settle for
Less than love and not much more
There was no such thing as a dream come true
Oh, but that was all the day before you

Now you're here and everything's changing
    Suddenly life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true
I will never have to go back to
    The day before you

In your eyes I see forever
Makes me wish that my life never knew
    The day before you

Oh, but Heaven knows those years without you
Were shaping my heart for the that day I found you
If you're the reason for all that I've been through
Then I'm thankful for the day before you

Now you're here and everything's changing
    Suddenly life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true
I will never have to go back to
    The day before you

Was the last day that I ever needed alone
    And I'm never going back
    No I'm never going back

Now you're here and everything's changing
    Suddenly life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true
    No I'm never going back
I will never have to go back to
    The day before you"

to sign the certificates and for piccies, we had a couple of songs - main one was Ella Fitzgerald "At Last"

"At last my love has come along
    My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
At last the skies above are blue
And my heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I could call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
You smiled, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
And you are mine at last"

our first dance was to Tim McGraw/Faith Hill "It's Your Love" - i love the lyrics:

    "Dancin' in the dark
    Middle of the night
    Takin' your heart
    And holdin' it tight

    Emotional touch
    Touchin' my skin
    And askin' you to do
What you've been doin' all over again

    Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in
I just gotta let you know
What it is that won't let me go

    It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
    I can't get enough
    And if you wonder
    About the spell I'm under
    It's your love

    Better than I was
    More than I am
    And all of this happened
    By takin' your hand

    And who I am now
Is who I wanted to be
    And now that we're together
    I'm stronger than ever
    I'm happy and free

    Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in, no
And if you asked me why I changed
All I gotta do is say your sweet name

    It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
    I can't get enough
    And if you wonder
    About the spell I'm under
    It's your love
    Oh, baby

    Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in
I just gotta let you know
What it is that won't let me go

    It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
    I can't get enough
    And if you wonder
    About the spell I'm under
    It's your love
    It's your love
    It's your love
    "
