Anyone else never had a baby shower?

Stupidest thing to feel emotional about, I know! But I've realised that I'm not going to have a baby shower. I wanted *something* with DD so my doula hosted a blessingway for me. Only one person showed up Was still a lovely day but not the celebration I'd imagined. Now this time around its becoming obvious that I won't be having a baby shower. I know this is one of those ridiculous hormonal vents you look back on in times of greater rationality and go ha, well that was stupid! But right now it feels like a big deal. Guess I quite liked the idea of cupcakes and sandwiches and games with people who were there to be excited about my baby. Did anyone else never have one, and do you regret it?

I have never had a baby shower, no one mentioned it when I was pregnant and it wasn't something I wanted to do myself. I don't regret it I also never had an engagement party or hens night so guess I'm just not into being the centre of attention, actually that is probably a huge part of it, I'm very shy.

ETA - agree with Beatrix, is putting on something yourself doable? Or maybe get a group together to book in for a high tea?

Never had one out of three babies either. Yes i've felt emotional about it too, especially because this is it for me, but I am focussing on the fact that my man was an incredible support while giving birth and I know many women dont get that. I'd rather that than a baby shower/blessingway and a clueless/unhelpful partner lol. Focusing on the positives I do have.

Nope never had one. I had no friends/family around when I was pregnant, and nobody suggested I have one or they throw me one. I could have had my own, but really, wouldn't have had anyone to invite anyway! Sad sack!

I still get sad about it sometimes if I bother to think about it, but really, I have never done anything i was 'supposed' to in the right order anyhow.

I didn't have one. Didn't even occur to me. I actually think they are a fairly recent phenomena. Come to think of it, I have never even been to one.

That said, if I get UTD again, I will definitely have one to give back to all our friends and family who have supported us on this crappy, crappy journey.

I never had one. I had the offer from my mum and a friend but all of my close mates were scattered around the country side and pretty much everyone I would have wanted to invite was 1-2 hours (at least) drive away and I felt a bit selfish asking them to do that travel "just for me" IYKWIM? I ended up seeing most of them separately for different reasons during the final trimester anyway so there was excitement and celebration, but just not in one event.

At the time I didn't overly regret it but in hindsight I do a little as it would have been nice to have those memories of having all my close friend together to celebrate DS. Plus he will probably be my only (not by choice) so I have a bit of regret about a lot of stuff to do with having children generally and my history. I do what Kelly mentioned though and focus on the positives and on what I do have.

Anyone else never had a baby shower?

I had a belly blessing BBQ which meant both men and women came. Not as many people came as I would have liked but it was a good day.
I bought some nice beads for people to bless that I can wear or hold In labor and mum made a jelly belly cake- a round bowl of jelly upside down and 2 smaller ones for breast! She decorated it with flowers.
I also got some nice paper and asked people to put their wisdom, blessings etc on it and I put it In an album.
I would have really liked a friend to organise an event for me but no one offered and I just ended up doing it myself. Next time ill ask.

I have never had on either, it was a big deal to me and I find it really hard when friends of mine have baby showers. I wish someone cared enough about me to give me a beautiful day. Hopefully if we get pregnant with number 4 someone might? I doubt it though as organising my 30th birthday was horrible enough with people pulling out.
maybey get a good friend and go to a day spa ( although if they where a good friend they would be throwing you a baby shower!!!).

That made a glum preggo chick smile

I could just throw it myself, but I don't want the whole 'omg she's throwing herself a baby shower, what a *****' thing. I don't even want presents, I just want a group of people who like me to sit around with me and eat yummy things and be happy that another little girl is on the way

then do it! and just write on the invitations "no presents"..... and call it a baby celebration! The last chance, prior to being overwhelmed with another mouth to feed, for you to have a party!

I don't think people will think it's weird... my sister planned her own kitchen tea (I thought it was a dumb idea to have one... but mum wanted her to...) and she even planned all the games and ran them herself... nobody even thought it was weird

A baby shower is the one thing I DO want... didn't have an engagement party (I thought that was a waste of time, money AND all about presents).... but I think a baby shower... while it IS about the presents () is also about celebrating it, and I LOVE buying presents for others baby showers, so.... I figured people who don't like buying gifts will buy something small anyway, and I probably won't even notice if they don't buy one at all!

anyway, my suggestion... just do it! and enjoy it! and don't even think about what others might be thinking... after all... you cannot, no matter what anyone says... read their mind.....

Dude. that is the ONLY way that i have EVER gotten a baby shower/celebration lol. I guess i am sad.

I am totally devastated that what with the preterm labour threats etc that i havent had time to organise something. this time around i wanted something smaller and intimate and just a kind of 'sharing circle' between women ITMS. but yeah, just havent had a chance and definitely no one else that would organise one for me lol. funnily enough i find it weirder to organise my own birth blessingway than to organise a tradition baby shower...

I *think* that what i will do (I still live in hope that i can get my A into G and organise something for the weekend lol) in the coming weeks is organise with my 2 girls to have a wee paint party where I will draw a pregnant lady and the baby and they can go sick on it with some paints and then I can hang them up in my birth space to gaze and zone out with during labour. i really want to include them in this celebration and will be a nice way to do something meaningful but still special for this baby...

Didn't have one, don't regret it, usually don't go to ones I am invited to.
I figure what, will all the kids parties, concerts, playgroups and full time work, my weekends are already full enough.
I like to buy something for mum and bubs after the birth, take a cake, have a coffee, shoot the **** one on one.

Hope you get the day you want though PZ.

PZ if they think like that, why on earth are they your friends?! And who'd want to invite people like that? Im sure those that really care would love to be there with you.

Never had one and it's something the drives me emotionally insane still. The likelihood of having one this time is slim too. Cut my loses and moved on now lol
