Does your DH wear a tie to a wedding?

My DH hates wearing a tie, he doesn't have to wear one to work and it really annoys him when he has to wear one. I think men should wear ties to weddings, especially church weddings and more formal weddings. We are going to my cousins wedding today and as it is a backyard wedding I wont bother arguing with him about wearing a tie as it is a more informal wedding.

The general rule that seems to be shared among the friends and family I know is tie or jacket but you don't need both. My DP always opts for jacket, even in the middle of summer haha.

I think it definitely depends on the wedding.

My brother recently got married and DH didn't wear a tie. It was a small wedding and we knew it wasn't a fully formal affair. In fact, the groom and groomsmen didn't even wear ties. They had that spunky beach wedding look where they had the top button of the shirts undone. The wedding was on a pier which really suited the look (although the weather didn't agree and it was blowing an arctic gale, lol!). Their reception was a stand-up ****tail type reception.

We are going to a wedding this afternoon though that is more formal. It is a church wedding and then a formal sit-down meal reception, so DH will be wearing a tie. In fact, he just had to go out and buy a new shirt because he found a "spot" on the one he was going to wear, hehe.

We are going to a wedding today which is in a park, but my DH rang his mate to check the dress code, and he said to wear a suit, so he will be wearing a tie because a suit to him means a tie and jacket. It all depends on the dress code for the wedding really, as I think most people just want to fit in and be respectful to the wishes of the bride and groom given it's their big day.

Depends on the wedding for shizzle.
My husband didn't wear a tie (or black slacks for that matter) to OUR wedding and doesn't see why he should for anyone else's.
In saying that tho... Do you remember what guests wore to your Wedding? I couldn't really care less tbh.

Lol, that's a good point. I can remember what I, my DH and bridesmaids wore to my wedding, but beyond that.... Hehe

Depends on what the dress code is for the wedding, I know people who turned up to weddings in jeans (and the invite clearly didn't state jeans as applicable wear) and the bride is still fuming about it 10 years later (those guests have never been invited to another event since and they're extended family of the bride). I feel for her because it totally ruined the photographs, men in morning coats intermixed with jeans.

Made me think about what people wore to our wedding and really I couldn't remember half of what they wore no one wore anything that terrible that it has left me any specific memory. Can't believe people would wear jeans to a wedding though

Yesterdays wedding was lovely, the father of the bride didn't even wear a tie so was as informal as I had thought it would be. DH has a really thick neck, he actually likes to say he is a rugby pleayer and has no neck . I think we'll stick to the tie for formal/church weddings with DH having the right to rip it off as soon as the formalities are over.

Finding an appropriate dress to wear when 22 weeks pregnant when the temperature forecast changed from 30c to 21c was also a challenge.

I can't remember what anyone else wore either - nor do i think i even cared at the time.
DH does wear a tie to church weddings, but not to other weddings

I generally go by the invitation and venue.
For me if the invitation and/or venue is fancy- then a suit and tie is appropriate.
Better to be overdressed than underdressed in my opinion

Cousins of my DH did wear jeans to our wedding, after asking and being told that they shouldn't
So yes, I remember which of my guests were underdressed.

Dh's cousin wore jeans and a racing button up shirt. It's in our pictures and I cringe everytime. It was a formal dinner.

I think depends on where the ceremony is and how u wish to be presented in photos. If your not a tie person you can still look awesome in a nice shirt and suit pants.

i remember who was in jeans at our wedding too! i didn't mind the kids in neat jeans and dress shirts - they initially weren't coming but the babysitter fell through, so it was all they had available - but the adult who turned up in jeans and looked like he hadn't showered in a week - yup, i remember him being there and exactly what he was wearing! there was also someone in tracksuit pants, which really annoyed me at the time, but now, meh, i don't care - it was a reflection of them, not me - and they weren't in any of the photos except random group shots - so i can bypass most reminders of it!

i have never seen DH in a tie - don't know anyone that has - it's just not him. he will wear dress pants and a nice shirt, but a tie - nope! i think it really comes down to both the venue and the couple getting married AND to the individual attending. my DH is not a suit and tie person - 99% of the time he is in shorts and singlet/tee. that's how everyone knows him. so for him to wear dress pants and shirt (either with or without jacket) is HUGE - and no one has ever accused him of being under dressed lol.

Depends what is put on the invite. If they didn't specify, he would probably have a nice pair of dress pants, shoes, shirt and jacket and no tie.
These days, anything goes. Even in the City now, alot of business men do not wear ties.

I think it depends on the invite but all of the weddings we have been invited to have been formal dress, so DH has worn a tie & suit. If there are men at the reception that haven't got ties on, then he'll take it off. My sister is getting married in January & he will be wearing a suit &tie, particularly since he is family & will be in photos.

Depends on the dress code...but DH would wear a tie anyway probably, he likes getting dressed up and so do I. I always say, if you can't get dressed up to a wedding then what can you get dressed up for? We went to a very formal wedding in the Melbourne Cathedral not so long ago and there was someone in jeans - and yep, I remember that! I think you need to follow the dress code, if it says formal and you turn up in jeans then that is being disrespectful to the bride and groom, I would be majorly peed off if someone had turned up in jeans to our wedding, ours was formal. I think, in part, you dress for yourself, but you also need to dress for the hosts/occasion, etc, as you have been invited as a guest and to say that you won't wear something when it states that that is the dress code then if you can't make the effort then maybe you just shouldn't go.

unless it's on a beach or something like that DH always wears a tie. His theory is he can always take the tie off but if it's less formal than first thought.
