I personally would still go.... Mother's day is one day every year, your niece's Christening & being asked to be her Godparents is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm sure your mum would understand if you visited her the day before or maybe organise dinner with her that night?
    ^^ yeah that!

i completely agree - it's something you can work around - being asked to be Godparent - no matter WHAT day the christening happens, is a huge honor. yeah, it would be great if it got delayed (which, if she is meeting with the minister/priest on May 1 i'm guessing it will be) but if it doesn't, you have to think of the bigger picture - reducing time with you mum ONE year, or losing the opportunity to be Godparent altogether...

Gotta agree with sarah and briggsy's girl. You could arrange to meet your mum after, or maybe even invite her (If your SIL doesn't mind), or arrang to do something the day before for your mum. She did ask if you were free and you said yes.

personally I don't think it matters if you celebrate mother's day on the actual day or on another - isn't it the thought that is important.

Whilst i agree with BG and sarah I personally wouldn't have a christening on Mother's Day, if you feel conflicted about going think how the ordinary guests will feel.

I did say yes I was free before I realized it was mothers day. My mum is very important to me and I just feel it's a little unfair that I should miss out on having the day with my mum while she will have her day with her mum and her partner will have his mum there and just the fact that she's not really thinking about anyone else not having the day with their mum kind of irks me. I understand it's one year but my mum is my mum and she's not well and she's been through a LOT in her life that I don't want to dismiss that day, YKWIM? I don't know? I think I will probably just say nothing and see what happens? I wish she said, Are you free that day, just keeping in mind it's mothers day (seeing as she knew) I would have said no I'm not.

As one who has lost her mum already I would take every Mother's day i could with my mum but I am biased.

Why don't you take mum out for dinner the night before?

It's a bit of a bugger - maybe they didn't even realise it was mothers day!

You were right AliBaby, she did leave it too late, plus they won't let her do the Christening amidst the Mothers Day service..... I feel so much better now. Thanks for everyones responses
