Question shot gun wedding, kinda (minus the shot gun)

so DF and i are now getting married on November 27th (thursday) this year.
i have a few questions that maybe just maybe you lovely ladies (and any gents) may be alble to help me with...

    1) where would i be able to buy a cheapish weddingdress that'll fit me when im say ohh seven and a bit moths preg? that isnt one of the stupid ones i've found on Ebay that'd make my "cute bump" some kind of speed bump or just make me look like im about to topple over becuase it makes it look HUGE? is it possable to just buy one 'off the rack' in a large/plus size and have it seen to by a seemtress (sp?) ?

    2) its a thursday. so we're *hopefully* sending out the invites this friday/monday coming. would that be enough time for people to sort out time off work/sleeping arrangements? (it'll be around the 2 month mark) or are we REALLY pushing it?

    3) being nov. would it be nice to get married out side or in? the place we have booked has both options and im just wondering what others thoughts are? keeping in mind it'll be at around 5:30 in the evening...

4)is it ok to beat my soon to be mother in law with a book becuase she's already started telling us no one will show up becuase its a thursday?

    TIA.

    1) You could try good sammies or the salvo's for the dress.. they are very cheap
    2) depending on how many ppl your inviting, being a thursday i wouldnt expect a good turn out, especially with only 2 months notice.
    3) id say take your pic, weather would generally be okay that time of year.
    4) no, i think shes right on the money!!!

    Good luck

It's ok to beat your MIL but why stick at a book, maybe you can get a tuna to smack her around with or some wet noodles.....

My sister got married on a tuesday because it was the only day she had free and most of the people she invited came - it's not that hard to get a day off work. If it's on a thursday night even better - lots of people will have a good excuse to take friday off too and have a 4 day weekend lol.

Outside might be nice but it's always nice to have some shelter if it's too hot or it rains.

My DH & I married in November, and the day before our wedding was perfect! Warm, sunny just perfect, and the day of our wedding, it pourded down rain. I have been told that November is one of the most unpredicable months for weather.
Went sent our invites out with 2 months notice, but that's because everyone knew the date anyway and had put it aside.
As for the dress... look in cheap shops also. There is a place that sells fairly cheap formal wear that can come in white/ivory etc and some of the dresses are $100 or so.
I just asked my DH and he agreed that we would definitely attend Thursday wedding... I think most would.

    All the best!

    3) Careful of November weather in Melbourne! My day was a bit grey but I didn't mind so much as its waay better for the photography. Have a lovely wrap jic.

    4) Absolutely find something 'borrowed' to belt the MIL with. I like the tuna idea but it might be a bit smelly. Could you make a second bouquet, load it with rocks and PELT it at her? Just remember to look shocked when she goes down and blame the florist.

I'd go to a wedding no matter what day of the week it is. Its your choice and who'd be so cranky to whine about it? Take a day off work people! 2 months is just about right for the invites, I did mine about then to cover the interstate guests. It chasing the RSVPs that will drive you mad anyway.

    HI,
Google second hand wedding dresses there are a few sites around and maybe you might find one that has been made for just a wedding the same as yours!
I agree inside and outside options either way because of the weather.
Thursday is fine, we would take a long weekend!!!
Maybe you should not invite your mother in law and tell her you did not want to inconveniance her because you know she would never attend a wedding on a Thursday because she told you that once

    1) I am not too much help as to where you would buy a dress, but I would suggest a maternity dress as it compliments your bump alot more than a large size dress taken in. I wasn't very big at all at 7 months pregnant and still sleeping on my tummy, everyone is so different so it is so hard to tell about sizing,

    2) Yeah ok it is a Thursday and late notice for some, however if it offers any hope, I received an invite last week to a wedding in Perth (I'm in Melbourne) and the wedding is November 29th, I have a 3 month old daughter that was in hospital until 4 weeks ago, and yes I am going to the wedding! If they are true family and friends they will be there no matter what.

    3) An outside wedding is always nice, but then you can never predict the weather - is it a chance you want to take? Maybe you could hire/buy (you could re-sell on ebay) a small gazebo (you can get them cheap at Big W and they are nice iron with cream canvas), this could at least be a cover for the bridel party if it rains a bit (everyone else can use an umbrella, he he)

    4) Yeah why not - it is your day, not hers - don't let anyone ruin it for you!

I wish you the best of luck

I had mine made. Admittedly by a relative but still.. and it only cost $70 and semi hid the baby bump but not on purpose as I wasn't out to hide the bump, Just wanted to feel pretty lol

Seems fine to me.. My Wedding was a Sunday..

I think a nice outside wedding with an indoors reception... if possible set up fans around the service

Yup Mine was ok with my wedding but got SIL to marry her husband 2 days later "because all the family will already be here" So yeh beat her lol

Ohh and im already showing...its not HUGE but its a bump...

Don't stress Who cares what anyone thinks.. If they think you are getting married because of baby then they can go bitw thier bums.. We got the occasional comment about it but hey we know why we got married and thats what matters..

And most importantly of all have a blast

    1. Buying secondhand will cut the cost but might be a little difficult with a sizeable bump. Leave the dress to a week or two before or you may find it wont fit.

    2. I think that's plenty of time.

    3. Outside is fine if that's what you want. Is there a covered area you can use if it's wet? If not go for inside.

    4. Don't touch the MIL. She could be right, but if she is you will have to fork out a lot less money which can only be a good thing.

8 weeks is plenty of time! General wedding etiquette says 6 weeks or more.

DH and I got married on a Thursday! Although we were in the Greek Islands and all our guests were already on holiday anyway. But people will sort themselves out to take time off for your wedding - permission to beat her with a book (or fish, rocks etc) is GRANTED

    Hi sweets,

I think Mat shops are prob your best option given how far along you will be at the wedding. I have seen a couple of nice dresses in Egg Maternity (retail about 300-500).

As far as the day of the week is concerned, if people want to come, then they will regardless. If someone I knew and liked was having a wedding, Id go even if it was at 4am!

Inside or out - can you leave it till the week before the wedding? Then you can check 7 day forecast and decide.

As for the MIL - go for your life, you can beat mine too while your at it

I just made a white maternity dress. It's cotton, but very pretty

Getting married on a Thursday is the BEST way to cut the unnecessary riff-raff out of your guest list! The people who really really want to be there will be there. The rest will whinge about it.

I personally gripe about getting less than 12 weeks notice to go to a wedding, but it's because I live interstate, and often I can get cheaper flights if I know in advance. An example is a friend getting married in December, I've booked flights down there even though I'm not 100% sure I'm invited - how awkward! I don't want to ring and say "can I come?" but at the same time, she's getting hitched really close to Christmas, and flights get so pricey!

Don't beat your MIL. Buy her a shot. That's what I did. Bar staff insisted I do it after I made her cry at the pub one night. It backfired SO hard at the time, but then it worked out and now SHE'S the one who's embarrassed by her behaviour!

Do what you want. Most important thing.
