Wedding - Massive change of plans

    Hi Ladies,

My partner and I are due to get married in June of this year, and we have just bought a house and looking down the barrel of a few more IVF cycles.

My dilemma is that I don't think I can go ahead with the wedding we have wanted and feel like I am being financially responsible.

DP and I have discussed the option of a home wedding.

The house we have just bought is quite lovely and it has a big entertainment area and pool yard.

DP says he likes the sentimentality of raising our children in the house we celebrated our marriage at.

I do like it, and I know I can make it beautiful, I'm just really worried about what people will think!

It will still have all of the fanfare, food and drinks of a normal wedding, it's just the reception will be at our home.

    What do you all think?

Do whatever makes you happy! The day after the wedding life goes back to normal i would rather wake up with great memories and no debt!!! Every loves a wedding no matter where when or how

We did our wedding on a very small budget (under $2000) and it was great so go for it

We had our reception at our brand new home we had just finished building.

Everyone seemed to have a fab time so I say go for it!

Doesn't really matter where or how much you spend, as long as you are surrounded by those you love and are important to you.

I would go for it. Like you said you can make it very special and intimate and keep it to whatever budget you want it to be.

We had our wedding at my Mums house because she had such beautiful gardens but I love your DH sentimental way of thinking.

Its your day dont worry about what anyone else thinks, im sure you have only wonderful friends who will just be glad to be there celebrating with you.

I think it sounds beautiful. I would LOVE to have a nice home to get married in, but we only have a small flat. Aww it would be gorgeous!

We had our wedding and reception at a house with beautiful gardens and it was awesome. We still get people telling us it was the best wedding ever.

Will you get a company to cater it for you or do you have people you know to do it?

Thanks girls, I think I just needed a bit of reassurance.. I don't know why, but I'm letting myself be bothered about what people MIGHT say... The more I think about it, the more I love the idea. I told my mum about it today and she is having a heap of good ideas!

We will get it catered (by a friend who is a chef and runs a small catering business). I have also already emailed her to see what she thinks and she is stoked to do it for..... drumroll........ $14 pp for a full dinner meal portion of canapes. She is brilliant, and her food is really really good!

Kimmi, I think your wedding will be gorgeous and create so many happy memories for you, your partner and your family.

I've been to two weddings of friends who got married in either their backyard or their parents' place and they were both beautiful. It felt so special and intimate.

    Congratulations and enjoy x

That's what I'm hoping for Buffy1! We just want our wedding to be beautiful and symbolic of how much we love each other.... We don't need to spend $20,000 to do that!

You will be surprised at how many people will also consider this a smart option.

We are flat broke since ours and everyone was saying all along we should be doing a smaller inexpensive wedding.

Unfortunately I learnt my lesson too late
