    Wearing make-up to work?

I am starting a new job next week. I am so nervous about it. It is a much better job than the one I have now.

I don't normally wear any make-up, but this job is a much higher level than what I am doing now. I need to wear more professional clothes too.

Do I need to start wearing make-up?

    What make-up should I wear?

i would just keep it simple.... if u are not used to wearing make up, i swear by a tinted moisturiser, its all i wear as i dont like foundation.... i have the Dove one you get in supermarkets for about $7... evens out your skin tone and gives you a nice healthy glow... then maybe some mascara, possibly a bit of blush, or just a light sweep of bronzer on your cheeks, and some lipstick if you like to wear it... i can't stand anything on my lips, so i just use a natural coloured lip liner and some gloss... i suppose it doesnt really look like i wear make up when i have it on, as its very subtle and almost non existant i guess.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, im not really a make up person at all so maybe someone else will have some better ideas!!??

Thank you so much! I love the idea of a tinted moisturiser.

Maybe I will get some of that and just use my mascara and some lip gloss.

I feel silly in it when I wear it because I never do, so I dont want to over do it.

I agree with keeping it simple, if you don't usually wear make up & dont want to then I wouldn't put much on.
If you dress neatly etc & neat appearance it shouldnt matter....unless you are at a front desk & are the first impression of the workplace, then I might put more on.
Again I agree with a tinted moisturiser..they work great. Mineral makeup is great also, just dust over the powder to create nice even skin tones. Some mascara & lip gloss that you can keep in your bag & apply as needed during the day.

What brand lip gloss does everyone use?

    Any suggestions?

I agree with the advice everyone else has given.

I just use a clearish lipgloss.. not sure what brand it is. You don't need to get a horrible sticky one but even something like Blistex if you like that it gives your lips a bit of shine and moisturises them as the same time There are a few others like that too if you go to the supermarket or chemist.

this is what i think too except revlon do a nice lite foundation i wear it, it just covers enough so you look fresh and healthy. also don't forget the powder buy it a tad lighter than your skin and only apply enough that your not shiny, and i recomend a good quality mascara you don't want panda eyes at the end of the day.

and with the gloss i buy the revlon one too it more expensive but not sticky.

Yeah i might check out revlon next time I am out somewhere.

Is there different levels of tinted moisturister? I want something that doesnt react with my skin ( I usually break out if I wear thick foundation ) but that still covers and evens out my skin. Is that what the tinted moisturiser does?

I have things from a long time ago, my teenage years lol. Stuff like mascara and eye liner and bronzer/blush stuff. Will it still be good? Its probably about 3 or 4 years old.

Go for it Mum2Princess! I will agree with most of the other posters: tinted moisturiser, a touch of powder, mascara and lip gloss are all you need to look neat and professional. A classic pair of earrings also make you look more professional I think.

My other tip would be to make sure your nails are neat - I don't use polish but do make sure they are trimmed/filed and maybe buffed a bit so they are shiny.

All the best for the new job! Remember to relax and smile - it's not that hard! : )

Most makeup has a used by date but it usually a few years.
for your old make up do a patch test on the inside of your arm, to check if its ok.

i just looked at my makeup and some that do have dates say 2012 and they are pritty new. just check before you toss anything no need to waste money. but on the other hand make sure there are no germs on it too the last thing you will need is an eye infection on your first day.

all iwear is a lil concealer under my eyes and mascara.
    and clear natural lip balm.
anything like loreal/revlon etc makes my lips bubble up and sting.

and i work in a major co on the same floor as most of the execs.

I just put on some blush on the apples of my cheeks, curl eyelashes and add black mascara, and then brush an 'invisible' powder all over my face to combat shinyness (nutrimetics have a great one, it lasts for ages). Takes about 2 mins if that and helps you look a little more polished.

Tinted moisturiser as others have suggested is also good if you aren't used to wearing foundation. Also Benefit make this great 'foundation' called Some kind of gorgeous, it's in a compact but it is moist, you can put it on with a little sponge or a foundation brush, and it's very light and feels lovely on. I hate foundation but like wearing this!!

Edit - my favourite lip gloss is by Lancome, it's called Colour fever gloss, in a gorgeous nude shade. Now I am obsessed with lip gloss, and this is my alltime fav. It's sparkly but not over the top, it's shiny but not sticky, and it lasts for ages. The applicator is a great shape AND... there's a little built-in mirror on the side so you can apply it anywhere!!! It is a little pricey but I suggest going to a Lancome counter to try it (and see what colour you like) then shop online, it's way cheaper. Also - the bottle lasts for ages, I've been using mine for about 10 mths just about every day and it's just starting to run out.

Ok I really sound obsessed but trust me it's amazing stuff!!!

I don't know what you usually do with your eyebrows, but even if you aren't into having them professionally shaped, try cleaning them up a bit at least. It goes a long way towards looking more "put together" I think.

Also, if your skin is pretty nice and clear anyway without foundation, why bother? Just have a little bit around for "spot concealing." I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but the other option if you're prone to breaking out from foundation and don't know at all what to get is to go to a department store. Like Davy Jones or Myers. Head to their makeup counters (I find clinique to be very nice and clean finish) and tell them that you want something really really light. They'll set you up. And they'll match the tone for you so you don't end up with "makeup mask." It does cost, but I've found that if you splash out a bit for foundation its completely worth every cent. Other makeup not so much, sometimes the best lip gloss is a cheapie.
