    Career Ideas for Novel

Ok I am having trouble with my characters father and assigning him a career.

He has to be wealthy enough to own an inner city home as well as a beach house (although the beach house is inherited from his parents). The career has to be one where he mixes with upper class crowds. But I don't want it to be a cliche career as I still want the family to seem somewhat grounded and normal.

Does that make any sense?? Please help!

I like the idea of Merchant Banker and Plastic Surgeon - will try these out now to see if they fit.

    Anymore ideas?

I know a guy in Melbourne, who bought an inner city place in an area that was rough at the time, reno'd it and traded up. He's a boilermaker, and he's got a multi-million dollar property portfolio through dumb luck.
I reckon go with tradie who bought the place while he was a young apprentice, then went on to have a successful business. There's a lot of them around...

What if he was the CEO/Director of a big-city architectural firm. Would he have money then?

If he's an architect he will have to cry poor all the time even though he has a lot of money LOL! I know most architects don't make much but once a client of mine was a partner in a big inner city archi firm (lots of moula) and he was always saying how poorly he was paid. And he has to wear thick rimmed glasses!

I was going to suggest Barrister as well, or in Real Estate.
I am sure if he were a CEO of a big firm he'd make a fair bit. Tax benefits and all
