1-6 month General Chatter

Hi Everyone,

I'm having a bad day today. Cohen has been really unsettled the last couple of nights and I am really suffering from sleep deprivation. I find that I am really easy to find fault and I just don't have much patience. I also have Cohen Baptism to organise for Sunday and I just don't have the energy. I don't know why he isn't sleeping well. I'm hoping he gets over it quickly!

Tootie, I love it when they laugh. Cohen's first big laugh happened a couple of weeks ago. DH was home from work sick and we were all in the family room and Cohen was sitting on DH's lap. My oldest son was dancing around being silly and Cohen just started laughing. I quickly got the video camera out and filmed it and it is just so gorgeous! Mind you my oldest son now tries to constantly make Cohen laugh but it doesn't usually happen!

Christy, I love it when they fall asleep in your arms. It is once of those special moments that I think you will always remember. I love to feel their breath on my arm and their little movements and stretches. Aaaahh how gorgeous can they be!

Ambah, hope Aidyn settles for you soon. It can be so frustrating!

Gosh, I don't visit BB for one day and look what happens!

Welcome to the newbies.

Poor ambah with the teething. We bought Brandon a teething ring thingy which he loves to hold sideways in his mouth and squeak his gums over *shudders* I hate the noise, but it keeps him happy.

We've (read DP) taken the pram on escalators, but we have a solid wheeled pram. I hate escalators anyway, so I'm happy enough to have an excuse not to use them.

I sympathise with all the bad sleep nights everyone's had. Can't offer any advice because brandon slept through from day one, but I feel sorry for you, and be assured I'm not gloating because I know I'll probably cop it with the next one LOL.

Hoorray for Matilda getting a routine! That's great Christy, especially after all the trouble you've had!

Brandon always used to fall asleep after feeds, and still falls asleep by the end of his last feed (usually because I waske him up to have it LOL) but I've never worried about it. It was always the easiest way to get him to sleep. And at night time, if he falls asleep during the bottle, all we have to do is lift up to our shoulder, he lets off one almighty burp, and we can put him in the cot, and he won't wake up till 8/9 ish.

Hope Aidyn is sleeping now.

Well, I'm off to plan the meal menu for next week, so I can write a shopping list and stick to it, as money is very tight atm with all the things we have to spend on the car.

Not having too bad a day today. Had my u/s and the sonographer wouldnt tell me anything so i dont know anything new. I am feeling exhausted and stuff but okay.

DH plays darts and they are having their wind up tonight. We are going and my Dad's wife is babysitting. I am so nervous about letting him stay with someone else it freaks me out. I dont know how i will go with leaving him. Any advice? 8-[

A weird thing has started happening- during the day Ryley will have his bottle and after a little bit he brings it back up but it looks curdled. I only mix the powder in moments before i give it to him. Is it possible for the water (which is sterilised before i put it in the bottle) to be off? I dont know. When we are at home though he never does this.

I picked up Ryley's pixi fotos. The free one we got was horrendous. I have gone up 2 dress sizes since falling preg and I looked at myself in the pic and nearly started crying. The ones of Ryley are beautiful and he looks gorgeous- but at $50-68 a pop I could only afford one. I will try to put it up quickly and then take it off. I wonder if putting it in the web is copyright??

oh Pee IKWIM about the pictures!! I hope that the u/s gives you some answers!!! Whenever I feed Matilda regular formula ( not the thickened one..) or breastmilk it always comes back up curdled looking... :smt102

We only use the karicare thickened formula for babies with reflux & its heaps thick & it doesn't come up barely at all....so who knows....

Thanks girls!! :D Thought my last one was very bland, and my friend Juliette just made herself one with wings... and suggested that is what I needed too!! ;)

Having a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE day. Probably the worst one ever. Aidyn has been nearly impossible to get down to nap all day cause he is so cranky with his teething, and to top it all off we went for his 4 months injections today (finally) and the Dr just went ahead with it even though he had a low grade fever... we didnt have much choice as he has had a low fever every day for the past month... :-k
I think he is traumatised now from the whole experience cause he wont let me put him down, anywhere (he is on my lap as I type this) and he shrieks and shrieks if I try to...

Will reply to everyones posts when/if he goes to sleep.

Oh ambah you poor thing!

Here's hoping he'll sleep and let you get some rest.
Maybe Jackson will hold him for a while when he gets home to give you a break?

Not a lot of sleep last night as Hudson was just generally unsettled for some reason and even though I felt tired I couldn't seem to sleep once I got him to sleep. Then of course feeling buggered today. On top of that DH put our big dog on the chain under our verandah for what was meant to be 10 minutes this morning and didn't tell me about it. Went to parents group this afternoon and got home to discover he was still chained up and had been all day! As I discovered it the new neighbours were looking over their fence as the poor thing must have been crying all afternoon about being chained up. So now our new neighbours think we are bastards, which we are because I can't believe our poor pup was stuck like that all day because DH forgot about him and I didn't check on him before I left. I feel so aweful about it that I want to call the RSPCA on myself. Anyway, now I just keep saying sorry and hugging him every time I look at him because I feel terrible about it. And Hudson is cranky again now that DH has left for a night shift which always seems to happen. Sometimes I wonder if he really doesn't like me that much and just wants daddy. I don't know, just a bad day I guess. Well Hudson is crying again so I better go, but I'll try come back later if I get a chance. Sorry that was all about me.

oh I hear you girls!! There must be something going on???!!! Matilda had a bad day today, and usually I would say "another bad day..." and get on with it, but I have things I had to do today because of DH's birthday BBQ tomorrow and I have to work before the BBQ... with an hour to spare.. #-o

It took me 2 hours to settle Matilda for her second nap and then all arvo I tried to get her down because she was tired again, but nothing would do, at one point she was in her pram strapped in with her eyes closed screaming... and as long as I moved the pram around she wasn't too bad but the minute I picked her up or stopped she would scream louder & cry with real tears... :( so hard to see them like this!

Marcia - poor puppy! But I'm sure he forgives you!!!
Just to let you know I have been through a couple of stages where I have been convinced that Aidyn prefers DP to me (only smiling & settling for him), but as time goes on I realised there are also times when he prefers me instead!
Yvette - I hope the baptism goes well on Sunday, without too many dramas or cranky bubbas!!

We finally got Aidyn down to sleep after hours of screaming, He would only fall asleep in Jackson arms. Lying him down seemed to traumatise him too much, especially when we put him on the change table -I think he associated it with the whole needle experience. Its actually much harder when they're older cause they're so much more aware of what is happening :(

Ok... have to cut this short for now, DP needs me to distract him as he is quitting smoking tonight, yay!! :D

OK I'm back now, DP has gone to bed early, he has had a really hard day at work, poor thing.

I used to get nervous (and still do!) when other people watch Aidyn, so I usually just call home a couple of times to see how things are going. But now that I think about it I can count the number of times someone else has watched him, on one hand! Though there was the time when DP took me away overnight for my birthday and Aidyn stayed with one of my best friends (who has a young daughter) there was no reception where we were so we didnt have a choice but to wait until morning to call...
RE the bottles, I really doubt that the water would/could be off, maybe it is just moreso the acids and stuff in his tummy coming back up with the formula that make it look curdled that way??? Are you concerned because he is bringing it back up though? do you think he is bringing up a whole bottles worth? I think as long as he doesnt seem to be in pain when bringing it up, that he should be ok... (but that is just my opinion, I am no expert!!!)
IKWYM about the photo's too Pee... I recently got some prefessional ones done of Aidyn and I'm not even going to say how much they were 8-[ ...
I am going to my sisters work next week to get them scanned, so hopefully I can get my page up and running for you to all see my little boy!! :)
I'm sure the pics are copyrighted, and I know you're not supposed to scan them either, but quite frankly I do not care!!!!

I am so sorry to hear that a lot of you have had a bad day today. I feel guilty that we had a great day LOL.

We were changing Asha at the shops today and I copied a noise that she made and she started laughing!!! She has done it before but doesn't do it often (she shreiks a lot though when she is happy!) so of course we started laughing and then she laughed more! I bought her a hat from Pumpkin Patch today and it is still too big but it won't take long for her to fit in to it LOL!

I have to remember to ring Centrelink again on Monday as they have forgotten to put Asha on to child care benefit and this is the second time I have had to ring to sort it out!!! I also have to ring the doctors to book Asha in for her 4 month injections, which are due the day school goes back so I guess that I will do it a bit later! I still haven't organised care for Emma & Jack for the 18th yet as they have a student free day (I might have to take them to work with me) ... never rains but it pours.

I got a call today from the people who took Asha's hospital photos about her FREE 4 month sitting today as we have that next Tuesday ... had better think about what I want her to wear :) Then I have to book the whole family in to have our photos taken for our Christmas presents!!! I need to send one to both my Nanna's my Mum & Dad & we need presents for Ryan's Dad & his Mum & Step-Dad ... gotta love photos oh and of course we need one of the 5 of us.

Well had better go and do the bottles as we are out all day tomorrow and then away tomorrow night ... taking Ryan's Mum out to dinner for her birthday ... we couldn't work out what to buy her!!!

But it isnt a full bottles worth by no means. We had an average day today as well. A little grumpy but all in all it was okay.

We are back from the wind up and when we went to pick Ryley up he was fast asleep on the bed and seemed all good. My step Mum really loves him which is sweet so I feel comfortable having her with him.

Well I am off to sterilise tomo's bottles and then off to sleep as my fellas are both passed out in the lounge room!! hehehe

Yeah, my full nick is SilverMoon Dragon. When Bradon was born I had a little dragon hatchling as my av, but figured I should change it when he got older. Maybe I should find baby sized dragon wings for him too? LOL

Hello there! I hope you had great days!! Dh's BBQ was really nice, relaxed setting just sitting & eating as we love to do!! He got heaps of EB vouchers for computer games and a Starsky & Hutch DVD.... so that was fun & he is looking forward to spending the voucher for himself!

Matilda did soooo well today... I am such a proud mummy :D But she didn't want too much to do with me when I first got home from work... she was being a full on daddy's girl, and I had missed her & wanted a cuddle... oh well

I don't vote yet as my citizenship hasn't gone through yet... so maybe next time!

Speaking of being a proud mummy, I've been meaning to post this for days, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

My clever little man can feed himself! When I give him his bottle, he holds it with both hands, and can hold the weight now. He even knows to put his thumbs underneath! And when he needs to let more air in, or take a breath, he pulls it out by himself too. Sometimes he needs a little help putting it back in though lol.. Of course I still have to hold him, and I'd never leave him alone with a bottle, but I still think it's great because now I can push my glasses up or tuck my hair behind my ears without having to hold the bottle with my chin.

He also lifts his bum up when I have to put a clean nappy under him. Now all we have to do is teach him to bath himself and burp himself, and we'd be set! ROFL

LOL Susan I can't wait for the bathing herself etc etc...lol!!

That is great Susan. Lachlan has been holding his own bottle as well. I love it when life gets that tad bit easier.

Oooh, my poor little man. His bottom lip has cracked and it's bleeding at little. It's not going everywhere, you can just see a red line where the lip has split. I wonder if it is because he has been outside for the last two hours almost?

ouchies just put some cream on it and it will be get better. The air probably did dry his lips out somewhat.

We put Matilda's new car seat in the car, but DH put it front facing, and I'm a bit nervous now,... not sure whether or not we should turn it around to the baby stage.... just she's only 7kg and although she's tall enough, she's only 4mths... :-k But she's been in it forward facing for a few 2 minute drives so far, and both times she's loved it & not cried & fallen asleep... and I've watched her & she pulls her head up still and looks around without leaning back, so I think her neck is strong enough, I just don't want to hurt her... the CHN said that as long as when I pulled her arms up towards me and she held her neck straight it was okay, and she does that... oh well, I've always got something I'm nervous about lol... I guess I wouldn't be a Mum otherwise :)

Brandon can do that, but our seat goes up to 12kgs, so he'll be that way for a little longer. I don't really like the fact that our anchor point is in the center seat, I'd prefer it to be behind one of the seats, so I'll be leaving it rear facing for as long as I can I guess.

our anchor point is in the middle as well we have ones on the sides but who ever had the car previous installed speakers and the anchor points are gone. i acutally prefer him in the middle though easier to get too, and if need be i can quickly jump in the back

We've got her on the left side... because of the whole pram thing in the hatchback & we would be unable to get the pram without completely undoing the seat everytime... I suppose when shes a bit bigger & we go the stroller than it won't matter as much because I'll only use the big pram for the pram push which I use public transport to get too...

We put dd into a front facing seat at about 4 months, as she was in one of those old fashioned capsules with the sheepskin and I thought she was getting too hot in it. I think it is neck strength that is important so she should be fine. We put her behind the passenger seat - I would be so paranoid about her flying through the window if she was in the centre. (Silly, but as you said, gotta worry about something!)

Ours is in the centre too. Actually we have two points- maybe that's telling us something- hehehe- but we chose the middle instead of behind the passenger. Trust your instinct Christy I am sure you'll know whats best for Matilda.

Poor little Brandon having cracked lips. I get so upset when anything is wrong with Ryley!!

DH's parents arrived home today from Africa (I posted about Grr @ MIL on the punching bag before) and have invited us over so let's see how they react to seeing their new grandson as a 5 week old for the first time (he doesnt look newborn anymore considering he is 5 and a half kilos!!)

Ryley has outgrown the newborn huggies and it worked out so well coz we just ran out. So i went to buy a carton of infant and Huggies doesnt make that size in bulk. How cheeky is that!! Obviously coz it would be a very popular size!! Grrr.. oh well i am going to stick to mainly using Huggies at night and VIP's during the day.

Ryley slept from 11.30 - 5 both Friday and Saturday nights. I was stoked but the irritating thing is that Friday night for some reason I had insomnia coz I was over tired and Saturday night we went to a friends house and I got a little drunk on red wine while DH looked after Bubs and we didnt get home until 3 a.m. so I missed out on the extra sleep both times!! #-o

At least this is showing that he is getting better at night sleeps now. We have a great routine. He has a sleep from 8-11.30 then a bottle then sleeps until 5-5.30 and then feed then sleeps until 8-9 have a feed and then we play for 30 minutes and then he rests in his rocker for the rest of his morning until about midday- has a feed then sleeps!! It is great!! This has happened for about a week or so (roughly) so I am happy for me and bubs!!

Hows the house hunting going Ambah?

LMAO...I said that to DH yesterday, "slow down!! I don't want her flying out of the seat into the back of my seat or worse the windscreen!!! " At least we are all paranoid together :D

You know what that is something I have never been paranoid about. I was more worried about being t boned in an accident with the kids sitting on the side.

Aidyn has been getting a bad sweat rash in his neck/chin crease, it almost looks like it is about to bleed. I have alternated using nappy rash cream and baby powder on it... not sure which is best.. anyone have any ideas??

I have actually read somewhere (I think it was in my careseat instruction manual) that the safest position for a babyseat is in the middle in the back... I think for the same reason that Kathryn said - what would happen if your car was T-boned or something? The second safest is behind the passenger seat, and that is where we have Aidyn's seat. It would just be too awkward for us to get him over to the middle.

Pee - goodluck with your IL's coming over... hopefully they fall in love with little Ryley straight away!
Its annoying about the Huggies nappies isn't it? The largest pack I can get for Aidyn (he is now in Crawler size) is a 48pk... and they consider that to be a bulk pack!?!?!

As far as the house hunting goes, I have been on realestate.com ALL weekend.. we actually went to check out a place yesterday too, but it was way too small. Its actually really frustrating me, cause we can only go to view properties on the weekend cause Jackson is working, and I'm just terrified that anything good I find will be snapped up before we get a chance to go there!!
Had a fight with DP about it this morning too... he decided he wanted to do nothing today, when I wanted to call and see if we could check some places out. It just really irked me that he doesnt understand how much I am DESPISING living with BIL... and an extra week of waiting is very, very frustrating to me,... especially as its only because he's not in the mood... GRRRR!!! (sorry for that, probably should have used the punching bag again, lol! & AF is due so I am veeery hormonal atm!!! :roll: )

Forgot to mention that Aidyn had another bad fever yesterday, as a result from his immunisations on Friday. It was up at around 38.4. Poor boy :(
But he does seem to be much better today, still has a mild fever, but that is nothing new... I asked the Dr about it again, as he has had one nearly every day for 6 weeks now... The Dr suggested that he could just have a slightly warmer body temp/higher metbolism, or its just from teething... he doesnt seem too worried as Aidyn is sleeping and eating fine... but if it keeps worrying me then maybe we should get some blood tests done...

YAY we are finally in new housse...both house and old flat are in a mess but so much more space and Liam seems to be more happy here (probably because Mummy is and can let him cry now without having to deal with neighbours as the sound use to echo)

Was good on friday, got the majority of boxs moved as DH sister and my mum helped and the because of the bushfires it cut the road off so both of them couldnt get home so they just kept going.

Not looking foward to cleaning old flat....hopefully my mum will do the majority. Went over there today and Liam wasnt happy...think with the moving have stirred all the dust.

Ambah - try sudocream. Was in my bounty bag and I broke out in a HUGE rash over my face. Donno what caused it could be the makeup I have been using but I put some of that on my face and within 2 goes has started to go down alot.

Pee - Good luck with the IL's. Also wanted to say that Hudson chucks a lot atm having reflux, and often when it is a while after his bottle it looks very cottage cheese like. I think maybe it just has time to separate a little in his tummy and so it comes back up looking curdled. That was what I assumed anyway :-k .

Ambah - Good luck with the house hunting. I remember when we were house hunting last year and it was aweful. We were also living with my sister and her husband at the time and it drove me crazy when I was up early searching the paper every saturday and DH would sleep in and mess around like it didn't matter. Poor Brandon with the high temps again! With the rash, Hudson gets rashy around his neck and I usually just put sorbelene cream on it. Could it be eczema or something like that, or is it more like a heat rash? If it was a heat rash i would think powder might help as it would keep the skin dry, but eczema needs to be kept moist I think? Anyway, just thinking out loud lol.

Well This weekend I have been thoroughly spoilt by my DH. He is such a romantic at heart. He surprised me last night for our anniversary by booking us into the same hotel we stayed at on our wedding night! We went out to dinner which I knew we were doing and then afterwards he said it was too early to go pick up hudson from MIL and we should go for a drink. So we walked through town and eventually came to the hotel and I said 'Hey that's where we stayed on our wedding night.' And I still had no clue until he said lets go in and check it out lol! I can't believe I didn't figure it out. He had even organised an overnight bag for us to be dropped off by his sister who also dropped us in town for dinner and made sure there was champagne and choc strawberries in the room like on our wedding night. I have to admit that I missed Hudson terribly for the night and had to ring and check on him once I realised we wouldn't see him til the morning but we had a great night and I really need to stop complaining about DH over the little things ](*,) lol. Feeling a bit seedy today as I had a bit to drink and my body still isn't used to it after so long with no alcohol, but hey, I don't think I am in any position to complain!! Unfortunately I won't see DH for a couple of days now as he is in the city for uni for the next two weeks, but I will be driving down to visit with Hudson on Wednesday as I think he will miss Hudson too much if he can't see him until the weekend lol.

Hooray for the new house Spiddles. Now if only Ambah can find somewhere for her MIL to buy, and we can find somewhere to rent, we'll all be settled.

I guess with the t-boning that makes sense with the car seats, but isn't that where the car body is reinforced the most anyway? Although Probably not in our little 1970 hunter LOL.
