Mgm - we were rocking him to sleep. BTW - he didn't want to repeat the trick for the day sleeps (although he fell asleep in the pram this arvo which is unusual) - but that's cool. If he only wants to do it at night, I'm ok with that!

Had mothers group today but only had 3 of us turn up which is disappointing. Was nice to chat with 2 other mummies though!

Nessa - I was going to weigh Liam today, but ran out of time. I'm sure MJ is doing what's normal for her and will put weight on again soon...

Meg/Steph/Janine - about gro-bags. Every one that I have seen has a big red tag saying "high fire danger" on it. This worries me - does it concern you? It's why I haven't bought one yet. Liam seems to be losing his startle reflex so hopefully we can get him in one soon. I saw one at a shop in town that was made from alpaca wool - looked very good... expensive, but good ;)

Meg - lucky you on the sleepthrough! :clap:

Janine- Please please, do you have the tickle turdle wrap pattern? I'm making my second batch and even working from my old ratty ones I'm having trouble remembering the edging. And of course, the website has disappeared and I can't find my copy. Argh. As for the guilt, well, she's smiling at me again at least...

Nettie- I am somewhat concerned about the whole fire danger, but not very much. She's never around anything that would ignite. BTW if you can get your hands on alpaca, its worth every cent and I'd say go for it. Alpaca is soooo wonderful. I'm a bit of a fibres nerd, I love pure natural stuff, its so good to use with baby. Alpaca does shed a little bit but no big deal really...

Beatrix- Its normal to have weight fluctuations, isn't it? Like you said, she has been sick and I'm sure she'll make it up in no time.

Beatrix - The only thing i did diff was wrap her then feed her then put her in the cot. I think she had a empty tummy, or was just hungry. I dont think its a good thing to do, to feed her when she wakes, then 1.5 horus later before she goes to sleep, but it seems to be the ONLY thing that works..so i dont know..

High fire danger could possibly just mean it is a natural fibre, which is actually what I look for in clothing for us. Synthetics may not burn, but they melt, which is much worse!

Steph, I have the pattern here somewhere. I'll see if I can write the edging out or scan and upload it to my blog for a few days so you can copy it. I have to find it first, and that will be a small miracle in this place at the moment. :lol:

Meg hope the change in sleep pattern lasts and isn't caused by something else, or more that the unsettledness was caused by something and she is back to normal now. DD had a change in pattern for the worse and seemed to be related to her having sinus pains - doctor says she is fighting of the infection well herself so no need to give her anything, but the sleeps are like you are describing with your little one.

Belle I find that DH listens when I get snappy/bossy too. I got a special break last night, not only did DS sleep with DH, DD slept from 11.30pm to 5.30am with a poo then wanted to play, I waited until 6.45am then went and had a shower with DD gave her to DH at 7am and DS didn't wake until 7.45am. I feel like I got a good night's sleep. 8.15am and DD has gone back to sleep which means I won't be taking DS to daycare until late again today. He's happily watching Scooby Doo anyway.

Fire Do you know if there is any particular nutrient deficiency that would heighten panic or anxiety - triggered, not panic attacks. Just seems that the panic level is greater than they should be for the trigger. DH thinks that maybe I'm missing something as I can rationalise that I am overreacting after the initial panic.

Hi girls, just checking in.

Had an awful night with Baxter last night, one of the worst since he was a newborn! I really went off routine yesterday by going to town and meeting a friend for lunch, he had barely an afternoon nap at all and that sent things into a spin from 2.30am - 5.00am this morning!

Think today will be a pyjama day...

Otherwise, immunisations on Tuesday. Hoping he will sleep like last time so I can do footy club books, (I'm the treasuer). :p

Have a friend coming for coffee this arvo so need to clean the house a little.

Well Liam was a little trooper again last night - self settling. But he woke up 3 times crying and needed the dummy put in to get back to sleep (and we think his hands were cold because he'd gotten them out of the wrap, so we re-wrapped him). Then he slept through until 6.30 am this morning!!!! He's never done that before either so there's firsts all round this week.

I think I'll take some new pics today because he's looking different to me like he's grown up a lot this last week. I'm wondering now if it was a wonder week for him as he's doing a few new things like growling ;) and a couple of times he's chuckled - but I can't get him to repeat it unfortunately.

AAAH Isabell was up from 6am!! And i feel sick, got a sore throat, think im getting a cold, got a massive headache, feel spew sick, just wanna sleep!! She has had one 2 hour sleep so far, and i slept for that time, but i still feel absolutely horrible :(

Sorry to hear that Meg, but it might explain Isabell's change to routine - she might have the same feelings.

I'm getting good daytime sleeps at the moment, but I know it is because Greer is sick, sleeping it off so to speak. Means I get time to clean and about to put her down again now - hope she stays asleep so I can give DS some attention.

i think we may be going through a growth spurt here with Isabelle. she has been really cranky for the last two days but luckily still sleeping her 12 hours at night. i had been considering the move to her room this week, but i thinki might wait until this growth spurt is over and she's had her 4 month vacs.

Grubi, I haven't much time (just came to read) but I can give a quick tip to try. For a deeper explanation, look at the video on my blog about breathing in the asthma sections. The simple version is, if you overbreathe, lack of carbon dioxide stops oxygen getting into the cells (eg, the brain). It seems converse to what you'd expect to happen from overbreathing, but CO2 is needed to transport the oxygen. This sets up a cycle where all kinds of crises happen in the body. And a panic attack causes over breathing almost as bad as asthma does - that panting, big breath, shock type breathing. To avert an attack almost immediately, hold your breath. :) Sounds too simple, but as the CO2 builds back up in your system, your body and mind will start to relax. Cut off the loop by cutting down the breath. Then "mouse breathe" this is what we describe to children to make it fun, but it's just breathing so small that you can barely feel it when holding a finger in front of your nose (btw, NEVER mouth breathe!!!). It will feel uncomfortable, like your dying to take a deep breath or that your starving of air. Ignore it, and soldier on. Stay uncomfortably needing air for a good five minutes, then resume regular (gentle nose) breathing. Don't deprive yourself to gasping stages, that's counter productive. But do starve of air a little.

My brother, an addict and panic attack extraordinaire in his hey day, can avert a panic attack with breath alone now.

Sorry I've forgotten who it was but someone else here had cradle cap issues. Are they in this thread or the other one? I'm wondering how you treated it and if it went or got worse, etc.

fire that was probably me. i think i mentioned earlier that ds's miracle cradle-cap formula failed to work instantly on dd (it was 30ml almond oil with 3 drops each of geranium, lavender and roman chamomile). i had just about given up but over the past couple of weeks it's worsened and she's been scratching her head a lot and drawing blood occasionally. so, i've been putting the oil on an hour or so before her bath (which is more or less every second day), then brushing her hair/scalp just before bathing her and washing her hair. with the brush, circular movements seem to do the trick. there are several small bits still on her head, and a couple of giant crusts that i'm scared to lift off, but at this stage i'm pretty sure they'll all come off in time if i continue the oil-brush-bath method. i've also had to use baby shampoo to wash her hair, otherwise the oil just stays in there. does ci have bad cradle cap? how's his eczema going? i've had that myself recently, not pretty...

Off to footy, must dash. Made a cake for afternoon tea (all players families must bring a plate) but DH and I ate it yesterday, oops!

Yeast live in the scalp feeding on the oils there. If you use oil plain, like olive oil, you feed the yeast. But with the lavender, it is an antifungal. Yeast overgrowth in the gut can make the immune system fight the normally benign yeast on the scalp. This can make cradle cap turn into the nightmare we have. Seborrheic dermatitis. I thought it was part of his eczema but it is a separate issue. Apple cider vinegar is good (alters the pH) and I'm using an antifungal and dermatitis shampoo (first time tonight), which is antifungal. He currently smells terrible, with a teatree/lavender blend on, and the smell of tea tree makes me feel sick. But it's clearing, finally. I'm attacking it with everything I have.

Shoegal I look forward to hearing how moogoo goes. I've heard good things about goat milk too but I'm already using so much what I really need now is a good moisturiser that doesn't contain petroleum products (parrafin, mineral oils, etc) and that isn't oil based. All but impossible, I think.

I'm eating only chicken and rice, and today I added carrots. Sigh. But his skin is at baseline so now I can see clearly what triggers it. I am also going to NAET tomorrow, an emergency appointment. Cos we're not sleeping and sleep dep is doing my head in, I'm getting very low from that and lack of nutrients and weight loss and have to call "emergency" before I drop. They fit us in last minute.

Re Zinc, from a previous discussion here, I found this today while looking for something else. It seems to explain the zinc/depression/baby link quite well. They even found that "waking at night to attend to the baby makes me less tired when zinc levels are good".

Everything is fine here, Lila has settled into sleeping from 10pm to 6-7am and a morning nap which is weird. Also I have to take her walking every day now or she gets really unsettled.

I found a job and its good for what I need. There's a quilting shop just down the road from us, the kind of place that stocks everything you could possibly need for quilting and they have lessons and classes and clubs that are always going on. I saw a sign up for help wanted and inquired. The woman in charge was so nice, said they could work with me on hours so I can work when Lila would be looked after, and that I can have ebm breaks etc. It's right up my alley, been sewing and crafting for years and I'm good. Not a career or anything but it'll help pay my student loans and put money back for our move to Europe without sacrificing baby's well-being so :dance: I say.

Just on the cradle cap thing....BJ had a little, not heaps but some, and we had tried a few things and someone (can't remember who) suggested, and I also looked it up on the net, that its essentially infant dandruff and so to try a very small amount of Anti-Dantruff shampoo.
We used Selsun Blue 5, tiny amount at bathtime, rubbed it in gently using fingernails, then rinse and gently scrubbed hair dry.
We did that every 2nd day for a week and he hasn't had CC since (we did this at about 8 weeks).

Ok, I think it was Nettie (if not sorry!) who was talking about making up bottles as you need them etc?

I had always made up BJ's for a 24 hour period and stored them in the fridge, but he's been quite fussy of late and we wondered if that was why, so, heres what we do, and it works a treat (in terms of mixing the formula in properly etc, which I know may still be an issue with the special bottles etc).

I measure out the bioled water into the bottles and put them in the fridge (cause we know that a 200ml cold bottle takes exactly 1min in our microwave to heat).
I then have 2 of those formula containers where you measure out the scoops for if you're gong out etc, and I measure out 6 x 4 scoops (4 in each section..obviously!).
Then at bottle time, we microwave the water, then pour in the pre-measured formula, lid back on, shake like crazy and feed.

Usually I'm lucky and I can do it all with BJ on the floor or something, but, if he's arking up in a big way, I do it the same, but stand the bottle in an empty coffee cup while I shake the formula in (to stop it tipping over).
Its been working a treat for us, and because the water is warm, with a good shake the formula mixes in really well.

Im not sure if it would work with the special bottles for Liam or not, and you're probably doing it exactly that way anyway, but if you aren't, thats how it works for us really well.
Having the formula pre-measured makes it soooo easy!

Fire that makes sense. I still use that oil blend on DS's skin at night. I suspect part of the reason DD's cradle cap was so much worse is that she sweats a lot when she cries, which can't be helpful. But I seem to be on top of it now (the fungus, that is - not the crying!).

Steph, what does lila do until 10 pm? Is that her last feed or bedtime? The job sounds perfect, too! Congrats.

Janine- How did the NAET go today (also what is it I don't have a clue)? I really really hope things get better for you, you're such a cool person. And you are such a good mum.

Lila is just Lila until ten I guess... We usually have a two hour cluster feed in the morning, two or three half hour feeds over the afternoon. Around 7 I watch Friends and then clean the kitchen and she'll have another feed. Then she hangs out with me. We chatter and she plays next to me while I knit or write to friends or do Bellybelly til 9 when I change her for the last time, rub her down with lavender lotion and put her in the grobag. I always take my time changing her because we both really enjoy it. Then she feeds for half an hour, falls asleep and I hold her for another half hour to make sure she's good and sleepy. Then I put her down and that's that. I remember it used to take about 2.5 hours to put her down, the time has just gradually gone down to half an hour. Only just made the connection about that. huh.

Well, we had our 4 month follow-up with Neo-Natal today.

Liam is now 5.7 kgs and 60.5cms long with a hc of 41cm. I think he's small for his age, but they tested his development too (with a physio and also a paed) and he seems to be well advanced developmentally.

They were impressed with his hand movements, eye coordination, interraction and also his efforts with tummy time & sitting up.

When the physio had him on his tummy, he almost rolled over - front to back! He hasn't done that before! He seemed to really enjoy it so I think I'll try to do more tummy time with him. She used some rattles to capture his interest and he really liked them. So we went to Toys 'r' us and bought some for him!

We were so proud of him as he was quite tired at the beginning of this appointment and thought he'd start getting grumpy, but he was a real trooper smiling and having a great time with everyone who saw him for the full hour & a half that he was 'seen to'.

We fed him straight after and he went straight to sleep (though not for long!). Then we went into the city to do some shopping and he was great through that too! Only had little naps through the day - 20 mins, up to 40 mins - but he was never very grumpy. He's now down in bed and self-settled like normal. He seemed very relieved to be back in his cot though! Couldn't get the smile off his face when we got home!

thought i would pop in!!

been having hard time with bf but we seem to have passes it now!! Unfort when she was sick she lost a bit of weight. so in 5 weeks instead of putting on she lost 80g and they are meant to put on a average of 100g a week.
as getting her weighed again today to see if the more frequent feeds have helped.

Nettie- Mj is only 5.5 kg (well last thursday was) so she is a mini one too. sounds like you have a real little charmer there!!

Steph- thats great about lilas setlling!! you must be doing extremly well and good at picking up her signs

Yes Nettie, it's very exciting seeing Kobie on the news. ch 7 interviewed her and casey dellacqua at the opening ceremony. My parents are staying at the same hotel in Beijing with a lot of the other Olympians families. Did you see the Kookaburra's win 10 - 1?!?

Regarding Liam's weight, Baxter was 5.7kgs on Tuesday so he is small too! But don't be worried, I used to be but not now. At least his clothes will fit him for longer! Baxter is still BF'd with 1 comp feed at night time.

Got the Moogoo Infant Scalp cream yesterday, it contains no mineral oil, will let you all know how is goes in about a week or so.

DH is by himself for the next couple of weeks at the shop so I am off to help out for a couple of hours.

Well had Mj weighed yesterday and we had a gain of 160g finally!!!

We also can roll from tummy to back and back to tummy. The tummy to back one is so funny to watch cause she arches her back so bad and the turn happens to quick she look quite shocked after it. :lol:

and we have also started to reach for things too!!

beatrix that's good news about the weight gain - and rolling, too! dd's not quite rolling yet but she's flipped over a couple of times by accident, leaving her stranded with her arms stuck under her.

NAET is an allergy removal therapy. They have almost 100% success at removing allergies. Our first appt was ...

Janine - yes, he has a touch of cradle cap. I've purchased from Moogoo before, that's why I bought from them. Apparently it's caused by sebum in the new growing hair that causes cradle cap. We don't use any soaps in his bath as this can exacerbate it apparently.

Have an appt with the Dr. on Monday to discuss results of pap smear. Kind of dreading it, I had dysplasia a few years ago and really hope it hasn't flared up or gotten worse or something terrible. That would be par for the course, just when we've got a handle on things and we're doing ok having to deal with something like that...

Lila's been wanting to go out for walks every day. If I don't she gets really grumpy so its helping me be fitter. She also likes to ride on my legs while I do crunches, she laughs and laughs. And is getting really good at holding things, especially brandishing her Bunnikins spoon. I think its the funniest thing when she whacks herself in the face with it and then looks at her hand like it's betrayed her. hehe. She'll work it out soon enough...

Mgm- New job starts wednesday, I'm kind of excited and a little apprehensive about leaving Lila, even only for a few hours at a time and with her doting daddy. More worried about him honestly, he doesn't spend as much time with her and doesn't read her as well I do, don't want him to be freaking out cause she's crying to go outside and he doesn't think to try it. It's ok, I tell myself he'll learn and get closer to his little girl because of it. Also I've never worked in this country before, Im sure its not much different but still feels like a bit of an adventure. Looking forward to the staff discount, I can get a machine. Had to leave the old one in the US. Lila's poo was weird for about ten days, all green and frequent and runny/frothy. I knew she didn't have a bug so I dug around and discovered I was feeding her too often and she was just getting foremilk. So now I feed half as often and she gets all the good stuff. Took a while to work out the new rhythm but it was worth it....

Janine- Don't even worry about the silly pattern, you have enough on your plate atm. Just if you run across it and think of me. No bigs. I guess I get through because she sleeps solidly from tennish to seven-nineish and when she's awake she's a really sweet little person. I kind of enjoy her company. Way to leave us on the edge of our seats wondering how the appt went. hehe. Sure hoping it worked out for you.

SG- I guess I have a small baby too though I never considered it til I read your post... Lila was 5.6kg on Tuesday. She's chubby cheeked and happy though so Im not fussed. DH and I are kind of petite people so it makes sense we'd have a petite baby....

Nettie- what a lovely baby you have, isnt it so great when they're a model of "good baby" out in public... :)

had phone consultation with paediatrician. diagnosis: mild entero-colitis (may be reaction to cow's milk in my diet). as dd's thriving and not troubled and irritable, he says no need to try to treat it - it will go away naturally in time. in the meantime i'll see if the dairy-free diet has any effect (if only it could make ME less irritable!!).

fire the poos are very smelly and don't have curds like 'normal' baby poo. look forward to hearing about your appointment, when ci permits!

Steph - thank you! We think Liam's the perfect baby! Funnily enough, he was a real darling to everyone at the hospital, then when it was just Barry & I, he arcked up because he was tired! That's just like his Dad - very well behaved in public.... ;) It's been a week since my pap smear and I haven't heard from the Doc, so I hope it's all clear. Will be seeing him Monday for Liam's 4 month imms anyway so can check then :fingerscrossed:

Mgm - good luck with Dairy free- I couldn't do it! Liam's checkup was thorough because he was in Neo-Natal or NCIU for 5 days. Our hossy does a very thorough follow up - one at 4 months and another at 9 months (possibly another one after that too!) Good luck too with your 'go it alone' weekend. I agree with SG - one hour at a time (or one minute at a time if you need!). Feel free to vent in here if it's getting on top of you!

Janine - ... ahhh - I see you've figured out how to keep an idiot in suspense! This idiot can't wait to find out how things went! ;)

SG, any need for scalp help, I'm your girl. I know all about it now. if it goes, great. if it gets itchy, tell me. don't suffer as long as we did before we figured it out. (it's fungal, btw) ci's is gone now after treatment.

Steph, the first job I got in the States was so exciting. I was a receptionist for Remax. and although it wasn't different to working here (except the pay! lousy pay there) I felt like a jet setter :chair:. Then I really was when United hired me! :goodluck2: Re green froth poo - it isn't caused by feeding too frequently. It is too much foremilk though. We had it for ages, still get it occasionally. The treatment isn't less feeds. It is block feeding. Or at least only feeding from one breast per feed. For us to keep it in check, I feed from one side from 6am until noon, and then the other until dinner. Then I swap from one to the other all night. But I never offer both breasts at a feed, or he explodes from lack of fatty milk. You can feed ALL day, as long as you empty the breast completely. If the issue is bad, then "block" feed like we do. My boy is almost 10 kilos, so trust me, it works. :wiggle: But forget the feeding less thing if it isn't working for you.

mgm, I've been off milk for three months! No biggie, you get used to it. I'm also off a bunch of other things until the treatments are done. Milk is usually the main culprit. Was she c-section or given antibiotics for another reason?

Sorry about the suspense :lol: The first consult was mini. We got a cream embedded with his frequency (they also do electricity medicine) - which works a bloody treat! We got Himalayan salt embedded with some more frequency he needs to take for the week until the next treatment, which was to give him a healing crisis. One salt grain a day - so tiny a remedy! Anyway, all that happened is his skin did weird things and he has been tired all the time, sleeping SO well! I'm almost tempted to keep him on it. :cool:

On Tues we go back for the big first treatment. We can treat 6 allergies which will be gone immediately (unlike the regular NAET where you have to wait 25 hours). I learned how to do NAET and did DD for milk. I'm going to do her for wheat on Monday (keeping her off wheat all day on a weekend will be too difficult). If anyone has allergies, I can post how to do it. Let me know. It's easy. Preferably food ones cos avoiding airborne allergies is too difficult. And the allergen must be avoided for 25 hours.

Ci finally found his thumb. Mostly. His naps are great now. He sleeps at least an hour and a half both middle naps, usually two though. And a half hour morning and late arvo. In fact, I sat on the ball with him a week or so ago and he started to get uppity instead of calmer so I just put him in the cot so awake I thought for sure he'd freak out. But he instantly settled. :o So now that's what we do much of the time unless he's overtired or otherwise upset and wants more pre-nap settling. I can't believe it, cos I had resigned myself to a hard yakka year and it has been tough in so many ways but not the ways I expected.

Now I just can't wait until my boy is all healthy so his skin is clear. Then I'll declare Nirvana.

Fire- not to doubt your Allergy elimination thing, but if it really worked... why isnt it used to remove allergies in people who have life threatning ones ie nuts, bees etc.

It is apparently. Some practitioners have 100% success rate, which is almost ridiculous. I know of people who have cured allergies to cats, foods and all kinds of things and I recently met someone who cured a multitude of allergies and became a new person she felt so good. Like many things, people don't do it cos it sounds too easy, or because they are too scared to spend the money and have it fail. Or one bad story turns them off the whole thing. I find that with Neurolink, which is an energetic treatment I use. I should use it on Ci, but I don't. Weird. Laziness? Dunno. Maybe I'll treat him today. For instance, a woman who was cured of seasonal allergies and salicylate allergy went onto a health board and told all of them about it, and how to do it at home (the old style treatment). None did it. In fact, several, esp one male in particular, argued about it and said he wouldn't risk it (risk what?). I went to an allergy board I was at for info for Ci and told them about it and not ONE person tried it or was willing to give it a go at a practitioner. I believe this is the reason why more people aren't cured - they don't do it. And those that do and get relief just become part of the long list of "urban legends", almost as though they aren't real success stories.

I hope to be one of the NAET success stories. If not, I'll move on, saddened, but still hopeful something will come along.

Yes, so they tell me. But I have a better solution for lactose intolerance. Kill your yeast. Candida overgrowth causes lactose intolerance. That's how it's treated, I'm surprised you haven't already been treated for that. There is a lot of info as to why, which you can google if you like. But basically the yeast mess with your ability to digest. Most pages look like this:

Scrolling through you'll always find "lactose intolerance" as part of the list of symptoms. The treatment, if I were to prescribe would be:

nystatin (prescription anti-fungal)
Threelac
Oxygen elements

The bottom two are effective enough. The nystatin is often used but in this country it isn't pure, it is in a capsule that contains... lactose. So perhaps not good for you just yet. Threelac is expensive as far as "probiotics" go, but it isn't an ordinary probiotic. You will get serious die-off symptoms from it because it was specifically designed to target candida and it survives the stomach acid (unlike regular probiotics where only 2% get to the gut). Seriously, you have nothing to lose, well, you have some money to lose. But it is worth the risk, I'd reckon. You can get threelac on ebay too, but I found that place a little cheaper. You will also need to go on a candida diet for the best effect and most long lasting (they are TOUGH to keep away, they come back). You can find one of those all over the net, but I can link one if you prefer. Let me know. The diet bit is the hardest part, but you get used to it and it's only for a while. If nothing else, go off yeast and simple sugars. Taking just the threelac on it's own should be enough for some temporary relief if you really can't do the diet or get anything else.

Its not so much lctose intolerance, its just too much and my IBS is so bad i live in the toilet...

specially after i have my fav wendys strawberry shake , I miss them :(

IBS is definitely candida. You may have a bad infection of it. You'll feel like a noo loo if you kill the buggers.
