There are many issues that you will encounter as a new parent. We have put together this list of useful articles and threads in order to assist you with some common questions or issues you may have, and to provide you with bit of extra support that we all need as new parents:
Please contact the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) or a Lactation Consultant if you are concerned that you may have breastfeeding and/or supply problems, and before the introduction of solids.
If you get a chance check out my website. i just added a couple of pics i took of Nixon getting ready for his 1st snow trip tomorrow! hehe looks so cute, i went to the shops to post something and end up in Pumkin patch buying this for Nixon! oh well was half price so good bargain.....
nickers - i had a look at your web page he looks sooo cute all like a little eskimo!!!!!
WEll charlie had a good sleep last night - went to bed at 10pmm had a feed at 5.30am then back to sleep and woke up at 9.30am - wish that happened all the time!!!!
Less than a week till we go to darwin - i am getting excited!!! Just don't know what to pack for Charlie - clothes wise. We are taking our pram and Car seat up there with us.
Might go to Target and buy him some shorts and T shirts for during the day and then he can just were a t-shirt and tracky pants if we have to go out at night time.
Well have a great day. I have mothers group this afternoon - talk to you all later
Anna, yeah when I let down, I feel a slight pain for a few secs, but not intense though, a friend says hers just tingle.
Lisa, its great to see Tyron has progressed. Hope work isnt hectic, ull miss ur lil man I bet.
Joy, enjoy urself, we went out for few hrs on our own at 4wks (crusty demons on dirt show), was good but missed bub.
Jacci, Holly has 2x2-3hr daytime sleeps usually, then up to an hr then awake til bedtime. One CHN said daytime sleep enhances the night time sleep, apparently.
Sounds great, hope u have good weather.
Thats Good news Theresa! Hope the tube doesnt cause poor Em too much discomfort... How is your hubby's back?? SO nice to hear Georgie is doin well! You must be one strong Woman to go through all this! Sounds like you are a fantastic mother!!! Keep up the good work!
We had Logans CHN app today, she wasnt too concerned with anything that I mentioned to her about Logan.....(I still have my doubts!?) but then I went to my usual playgroup this arvo and met up with all the mums I knew from when I had Jasper, most of them also have a second child now. They all think I should do some further investigating and see a Dr about his neck and also his weekly poo which has been causing him a bit of distress lately.
I think I will go with my friends on this one rather than a CHN who hasnt herself ever had any children??????? It just seemed like she really didnt give a damn about my concerns for Logan.
Sorry a bit of a whinge there, just p***ed off that I didnt get any of answers I was looking for.
Oh Theresa, that is mostly good news about Em. When u say compression, do u mean narrowed disc space? If so, then maybe he has a bulged or prolapsed disc, which pushes on the sciatic nerve (depending on disc, eg: L5/S1). Hope he gets some relief soon though. Yikes, MRI's are really expensive aren't they, but at least it will provide him with more answers.
Anna - I agree with Theresa - mother intuition is a strong thing and if you think something is not right then see about it. nobody knows your baby like you do.
Make sure you let us know how you go.
Theresa - hope little Em is ok, will you have to put the tube in yourself??? One of my friends little baby had to have heart surgery at 3 weeks old and if she wanted to go home after 6 weeks then she had to be able to put the tube in herslef - she said she couldn't do it.
Shell - i just realised that Holly was really quite long when she was born for her size she was only 6lb7 but 50cm long - wow!!! has she grown much in length?
Well were of to Darwin on Wednesday - I'm getting more excited!!! i'm off to get my hair done today.
Theresa - good to hear that Em tests went okay, hopefully the feeding tube will provide the poor little thing with some relief and then you can go from there! Sorry to hear about DH back, I have had a bad back for years and it really is debilitating!!
Anna - it is always best to get as many opinions as you need to put your mind at rest, my CHN told me Tyron might have a intellectual disability, which was so incorrect as he is now doing things that lots of other babies in his mother's group arent!
Jacci - I wish I was going to Darwin, this time last year we were heading for Broome and the conception of our son, I can't believe that was a year ago!
wow, good to see our group is back to it's antics (posting heaps)
Welcome back to those who have been missing in action
Would love to do catchups, but there was too much to remember now Theresa, hope it all works out with Em
What a trip we've been on. Left Tuesday last week for 3 nights in canberra. The KinderKot Jen bought a while ago, well even though it's won awards and stuff, we found a possible potential suffocation problem with it... particularly if bubs is moving about. Imagine a tent sitting on an inflatable mattress which is just smaller than the floor of the "tent", thus the floor goes down around the mattress before the tent rises up. If bubs got his/her head into that dropped area....
So jen slept with Jordy on the floor of the apartment we were in and went and bought a portacot the next day (got it for $50 too... - someone was saying they were looking at paying $89 at one of the sales... really they are all the same bar colours/type of material)
2 days of meetings in Canberra on the Wed/Thu and down the Albury on the Friday. Stayed in a really nice hotel there - the sign on the wall said it opened earlier this year, Spacious, warm, and very comfy. Jen had to do some interviews on the Friday night there, so the room was paid for by the company
Then to Melbourne on the Saturday, and on the Sunday off to meet the rest of the family. Everyone said a) how gorgeous and handsome he was & b) how much he looked like me
Had a few quiet days doing not a great deal but catching up with family and friends before leaving Friday morning. We tried feeding Jordy before we left - nup, barely even a single swallow. But 10mins down the road and he was screaming - with possibly the first time, real tears. We pulled into the Macca's in St Kilda, for a nappy change and bit of a feed. After an hour, we left and got to Tocumwal just after midday and caught up with 2 of the 3 of my aunts that live there. Then to Finley to see some of Jen's rels, who werent home... so next stop Wagga.
Had to stop in Urana when someone was cracking it big time again (about an hour??) short of WW. Stayed somewhere not too shabby there and finally got home around 4pm this arvo
Lessons... dont try travelling when bubs is changing there routine. We think Jordy is starting to teeth, and has been quite unsettled most of the week. He's been barely eating, and weeing HEAPS. Sometimes its every 20-30 mins he gets upset until his nappy is changed again
He is starting to sleep longer between feeds which is good, but it is hard work working out what needs to be done
Other than that, he is smiling heaps, really beginning to giggle and sort of laugh... And holding him under his arms, he can all but support his own weight on his legs - and he has just learnt what the reflection in the mirror is - anytime he sees one it's soo funny
Hope to have some new pics uploaded in the next few days
Great to hear you had a good trip abs...bugger about the kinderkot. Hope Jordy isn't teething yet. We have done a few long trips but so far () Abbey has slept for the whole trip. How cute with the refelction, Abbey just looks at us and ignores herself so far. But she can support her weight standing, she just has no balance lol
Theresa.. thats great that you may have some answers about Emma, hope it continues to go well. And great to hear that Georgie is doing so well.
Jacci..Have fun in Darwin!
Anna.. definately get a second opinion if your not happy with what the CHN said. Hopefully she is right though.
Well Abbey is doing really well..Will have to get her weighed soon to see how much she has grown, but you can see that she has grown heaps. She rolled over yesterday first from her tummy to her back a couple of times. Then later she rolled from back to front but not all the way, her arm was stuck. Funny thing was she was rolling so she could see the tv better lol
ETA: HAPPY BIRTHDAY THERESA!! hope you have a fantastic day!

oh yeah, Happy Birthday Theresa - wishing you a marvelous day
No rolling here Amanda
Hope Charlie behaves himself for the travelling Jacci, we're not planning anything soon after the one we just did. Several of us might do one to Heron late next year - friend of Jens wants us to go this October, but too much Jordy stuff to take, and they have weight limits etc on taking stuff to the island
Heard a funny comment yesterday - half aimed for those that say there bubs sleep all night
A friend of Jen's was saying their bub was sleeping all night... One day grandma (not certain if his or her mum) came to stay for a few days. After the first night grandma was a little concerned... On the 2nd morning she piped up "Did you hear the baby last night?" "No, why?" replied both parents
Apparently baby had been crying for over an hour, and neither of them heard it at all... they simply thought baby was sleeping all night. They just never woke to the crying!! Oops
That certainly isn't happening here ! I know there is a couple of you who have babies getting up at like 5.30am and staying up. How do you cope with the night before? Jordy is starting this with only one wake between going to bed at around 5-6pm. He takes ages to even think about going back to bed - maybe 8am, so I've started making a start to the day after he has finished feeding
Wow so much in so few days, things certainly are picking up un here again! Great to hear from you Abs.
Hi and welcome to Jennifer and Pretty mumma.
Theresa - that's great that you are starting to get some answers and a plan of action for Emma, and we don't mind hearing about emma in this thread... having shared so much so far I think most of us feel we know Emma as well as georgie, Pete and yourself
For those who have travelled, we took Caden away a few weeks ago (he was just 8 weeks) and he was fantastic, travelled well, slept heaps though was a bit grumpy the next day (slept too much the previous day???)
Started at the local gym and had my second visit this morning 630 - 8am! After morning feed and before next one. Feels great to start to take time for me and have the freedom to do it, though it is a bit of a rush between feeds, it is doable.
Can't remember much else and just realised that I have to fly, MIL is due here in 10 minutes and I'm not ready to go.
Sam - Hi!! You are more than welcome to join!! Were abouts ion the UK are you from??
Abs - charlie has been really good to travel with, he sleeps all the way to melbourne from here which is great, I was thinking you must really go through some nappies if Jordan doesn't like sitting in a wet one!!! Charlie couldn't give two hoots - the other day we were out and about and i was about 5 minutes from home and charlie did a poo, by the time i got home he was asleep didn't really care what was in his nappy. eeeeh - at the teeth already - so grown up now!!!!! hope you still had fun on your trip - especially showing Jordan off!!!!
Theresa - sorry if forgot to mention your birthday yesterday - hope it was fun and you were spoilt rotten!!!! choccies mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Amanda - how exciting rolling over!!! that is soo great.
Well i better go pack my stuf for the holiday and make sure everything is washed and stuff, bought charlie some new shorts the other day , he is so cute in them!
Qst???? - how long between feeds????? untill saturday charlie was wanting fed during the day every 3 hours - which is fine coz he only had one bottle at night over a 12 hour period! - now he has decided he doesn't care when he gets fed! he has been 4 hours at themoment and he is still happily playing and yesterday he went 5 hours and even then he wasn't screaming for food. He is starting to confuse me!!!
