Just a quick one from me again (sorry!!) ...
We're having a tough time with Jambin at the moment. We saw the paed on Thurs - he currently weighs 160g less than he did when he was born (at over 5wks old), which is a concern. And that, coupled with him fighting at the breast every feed is not really a good sign. The paed thinks it's either reflux, or low supply (and a very very hungry baby). At the moment, she's treating the hunger problem, and we'll wait and see if that works before looking at reflux treatments. So I've been prescribed Motilium, have been pumping multiple times a day, and we're topping-up each feed with either breastmilk or formula. I can usually express enough EBM for about 1 out of 3 top-ups - the rest are formula at this stage. I'm also booked into a Infant Feeding Day-Stay Clinic, and am in the process of contacting a lactation consultant. It's a very rough road at the moment, so I am hoping things improve. Jambin has definitely been more settled and happier in general with the extra feeds, so at least I'm not starving him anymore.

I promise I'll do some personals again soon ... promise!!

Hi girls, no time for personals again today - I am in awe of you girls that manage it most days!

Ben and I are doing great - he's settling a lot faster at night now - it used to be two hours for a feed and settling, now we're down to one hour - woohoo! He's back out to four hours between feeds too, so I'm hoping that he'll be early in dropping a feed - we have to hope! Imagine - a whole night's worth of uninterrupted sleep.....ahhhh! I shouldn't tease us all should I?

Jen, it's great to see you in here! How big was Beau when he was born? I think I missed that post.

Well ladies, I'm off to watch a wee bit of footy on the tele before Ben wakes up and demands another feed. We're off to his first live Swans game tomorrow, which should be interesting. I have a feeling that the facilities at the SCG will be rather lacking

    Good night!

That's great that your feeds are taking less time DisGirl. In the early days, it took us 3-4 hours to feed/settle Jambin, although that used to include a few feeds during that time.

    Hi girls

Have been MIA for a while, just been really busy.........Yes i am also in awe of you that are able to do personals. You guys have sure been busy.

Kaan and I are doing really well. Feeding every 3 or 4 hours. Wouldnt it be great to have one night of uninterrupted sleep!!!!! Well hopefully in a few months maybe (wishfull thinking). He has put on another 700 grams in 2 weeks and has grown another 3cm!! yay!!

BF has been pretty good, i seem to have alot of milk, so much that he tends to "over" drink and then ends up chucking some of it up, Oh well just more laundry i guess.

Hope everyone else is well, will do personals this week when im free.

    Goodnite

Morning everybody - hope you all had lovely weekends.

Cherie - sorry to hear about your feeding problems but it's great that he's more settled and happier since the hunger issue has been resolved. it's so horrible when you feel like you're starving them. hope it all improves for you.

Dis - woohoo on the shorter feeds! that's great. it's so good when they start to get more efficient at it and soon you end up both doing it like old pros - anywhere, anytime. how was the footy? DH very happy that even though the hawks/saints game was abysmal as far as entertainment went, the hawks had a good win. he has taught ella to put her arms in the air and say "yay hawks". tragic.

Sammy - sounds like you and Kaan are doing really well. Another good boy eater! LOL at the laundry comment. my house looks like a chinese laundry at the moment - I don't have a dryer ATM and so am using the ducted heating with clothes horses. lots of ironing for me this week....

Danni - that's amazing re Mason's big sleep! How unreal. let's hope for more of those!

Me - well, a fairly good weekend although Mimi has had a couple of her first really unsettled periods, the last two mornings. She is a little bit fussy at that early morning feed and once I have drained one side, she is hard to get motivated to finish the second side, so then she wakes up sooner screaming for more, and I don't get enough rest! Any suggestions on how to keep her eager for that final top up? I unwrap her and undo her wondersuit legs to keep her not too cosy and change her nappy in between but she just stares up at me wide awake and just keeps the nipple in her mouth not sucking. quite frustrating! Apart from that she is pretty good. Did the Million Paws Walk around Albert Park Lake yesterday. Boy, you forget how unfit you are after pg. I was totally exhausted yesterday - and Kaz, my leg was NOOOO good. Have to go and see someone this week for sure, because it's not right.

Anyway ladies, have a good day - for those in Melbourne, stay warm.....will try and check in later.

    Gigi xx

    Red face Baby sniffles

Hi there I am a bit new to all this but having a 4 month old now as well as a 3 and a bit year old both of who, have been way to snuffly the past few months so it was warranting action! I hate using pharmaceuticals so my sister in law put me onto a vapouriser? Great and i say beg borrow or hire one if you can! I plug it in in my wee bubs room and leave it on and it so helps clear her passages and after a while of far too sleepless nights with her it has helped no end! You dont need to put any oils in just the water steam is enough and I have actually been told by my maternal health nurse not to use oils cos it can be harsh on their nasal membranes. Just a thought and i hops osf some help!

    Hey ya,
Dis - Beau was 4.355 kg and 54cm long when he was born - the early childhood centre midwife was here this morning and weighed him again (dont they always turn up just after a feed when you are putting them down?) and he was 4.3 so he has nearly back at birth weight 11 days later...
Cherie - I can only imagine how hard it is for you at the moment - the motillium seems to have worked for me - I dont have the rock hard boobs or anything but I can express enough most of the time to top up Beau's breast feeds - its still trying tho beacuse he always wants more - you must be really stressed trying to satisfy Jambin - good luck at the clinic let us know how it goes.
Danni I am in awe of the length of Mason's sleeps! And 185ml of EBM! Woa baby I thought Beau was gutsy! Is that your secret for his long naps?
Big sleeps for all our bubbas tonight!

    Hi girls,

Well I just may have time for personals today...

Cherie, I just want to say good on you for persevering with the bf. I have had trouble with it too and I just don't have the energy to keep on trying. I am in the process of putting Lily on the bottle now. You should be so proud of yourself. It's not easy for some of us is it?

Danni, your a lucky girl to have had such long periods of sllep between feeds from Mason! At the moment I'm getting 3-4 hours, though usually 3. Lily seems to be such a little piggy! LOL.

Gigi, the lactation consultant I saw told me that sometimes if you trace small circles on the back of bubs hand while they're feeding it can make them suckle better. It seemed to work for Lil when I tried it.... and also scratching her back through her clothes gently seems to work too. Don't know if they'll work with Mimi...

As for me and Lil, well we're going along pretty nicely. She's still alot more settled than she was. Though she's still not sleeping well. A friend of mine who is a midwife came over yesterday and said that she;s not getting enough sleep. I will try to get her into some sort of rhythm this week. I know at this age they are pretty lax with 'routines' as such but at least we can start some rituals. We don't have any yet due to the hard times we had over the past few weeks. Now she's happier, we can start trying to get a routine going. She seems to be getting a cold though and she's really snuffly. I got some saline and a nose cleaner thingy (can't think of the name now...). My girlfriend also said that we do have thrush. I thought we did, but when I asked the Dr last week she said no! Though I had just fed her...but still you'd think she'd know!!
Our breast feeds have gone down to four a day for 10 mins each side now, so we are slowly getting there. Though today I have been feeding her for longer because she's a bit sick and she sleeps when she's on the boob! I also think that breast milk might help her get better too for some reason! And she just seems so eager to have it today which has been kind of nice since she's been rejecting me for the past few days.

Ok gotta go I'm being beconed...

    Kel

Caro, I have seen an LC. I saw one in hospital, and then saw her a few times when I got out of hospital. She helped with the attachment issues, and got Lil feeding bare- nippled again, but then we got thrush (I now realise...) which caused my nipples to get sore again, so I started using the shields again... I was also on motilium for three weeks. It seemed to work for me for those few weeks but then I got oversupply and Lil wouldn't latch on even if I expressed and then a week or so later my supply seemed to really drop off. Lily was crying all day and I was a complete mess, crying along with her, by the time I went to the Dr, we were so sleep deprived and Lily had a hoarse voice from crying so much (it took me almost 2 weeks to get to the Dr- I didn't realise what was wrong...).
So bf has just been such a huge ordeal for me that I think it is kind of a psycological thing for me. I think it will be better for us if I just get her onto the bottle. I know that bf is best for her and I do feel a bit guilty for piking out on her, but I was just such a mess and I don't want to worry about if she getting enough if we went back to exclusive bf. I think it just all started off on the wrong foot for us and now I find it stressful.
    Thanks for the suggestions though.

caro: glad to hear Michael is more settled.

Kellie: You need to do whatever works for your bub and whatever keeps you happy and sane. As long as she is fed and healthy, thats all that matters

    Hi everyone

Danni - it is absolutely freezing here today! I am out the back on the computer (obviously..) wearing a parka and beanie to stay warm. Thank goodness when I go back inside the heater will be on and toasty.....wow on another 6 hour sleep from Mason - what a little champion!

Caro - boy, you have had a good day. poor you with the pap smear - that's the last thing I would want right now but then I am only 2 weeks post but still! hopefully the pain will ease for your little man - I hope so. thanks re the baby oil tip - will definitely try that tomorrow. it seems to be getting better on her torso but her little hands and feet are still peeling off....not sure which sorbolene I am using but it's one of those really plain, unscented and everything.

Kel - thanks for the tips with the feeding - will give them a go. I hear you on routines. The thing that helped me get Ella onto one when she was this age was Feed/Play/Sleep. (except after the night feeds - then it's just feed/sleep). the examples the book gave for play was time on the floor on a kick rug, a walk, a bath - active cuddles with interaction etc. Seemed to really work for Ella and tired her out for sleep. The other bit of advice that I followed with her was "sleep promotes sleep" - as in, the more you encourage them to sleep, the better they will become at it. all sounds good in theory I know!!! Hope Lil can stay on top of the snuffles - they always seem to feed more when they are sick. I agree with Danni too - as long as bub is fed and healthy and you are in a good mental state, it's all good!

Anyway, all good here. Girls are in bed so here I am catching up. Looking forward to a big bowl of home made minestrone tonight. Still freezing....

have a great night all and I hope that we all get some sleep.

    Hi All,
Sorry, no time for personals. Olivia has just been to the doctors after sleeping ALL day (that may sound good) but she slept through her bath, except for the projectile vomit, slept through her change, hardly damp nappy, had 60mls and projectile vomited that all over my mum, then a bit later some more. Then some greenish stuff (bile i think). Luckily she hasnt had a temp, just really sleepy. Last night she slep with us from 1130 til 430, drunk a little, slept til 9am, drunk a little and then had that feed at 2pm. All the time sleeping. I seriously cant believe she didnt wake up properly during the bath. And I know she is a chucky baby, but that was rediculous. And no wet nappy this arvo, so I rang the doctor and we got her checked out. She has some sort of virus, no infections which is good. But if she doesnt take on fluid, keeps vomiting and her nappies arent wet, well its a trip to the hospital. We got home and shes just had 70mls and straight back to sleep. Shes kept it down so far (its been an hour). I hate seeing her like this. Am hoping that she will be much better tomorrow.
Well, I'll keep you informed. Hi to everyone and big hugs....it is cold here in Melbourne so rug up.
    Take care
    Love melissa

    Hi!

Just got home after a full on weekend away! Got a bit of sleep with MIL helping out a bit but I'm sooo tired. On Saturday night though Dylan went 6.45pm-2.15am without a feed!! I nearly died! Since then he's been going for at least 1 5 or 6 hour ish sleep per night! Woohoo! He's been smiling heaps but has the worst pimples the poor little man...
Had such a busy day - we got organised this morning, drove home, then straight away I had to head to my niece & nephews school for a visit with the kids and then home and straight away to do food shopping - aaahhhh! I'm ready for bed and the house looks like a bombs hit it from all our stuff being dumped...Ah the joys!

Sez - I can understand the food thing - I was like that with Louis - and sometimes wouldn't eat until lunchtime! This time's a bit different - I'm starving and feel like I really need to keep my energy levels up with good food...You need to eat well to keep your milk good and to keep yourself healthy!!!
Hope you had a good coffee out!

Melissa - Sorry you had a rotten night...big hugs! Hope you got a break! re: a vaporiser - I use it all the time when Louis is sick and it helps heaps! He always sleeps heaps better as it really clears his nose. I just put a bit of eucalyptus oil in it as well...
I didn't know about closing the bedrooom door with it - we always have with Louis - whoops! But in saying that he was alot older when we got it (prob nearly 12m old) so dont' know if that makes a difference...
OOh - I've used that baby balsam as well - thats really good! I reckon you could probably use it if you put a layer of vaseline down first and then put a bit on and then it should protect the skin a bit iykwim??
Poor little bubba - sorry to hear you've been to the dr's - hopefully she'll keep drinking and start getting better

Kellie - So sorry to hear you had a rough few weeks...sounds like the best thing for all to be offering the formula as well..it's definitley not worth losing your mind over - don't feel guilty! Sounds like she's going great with all the smiles and chatting to her mummy!
I hope Lily doesn't get sick!!
I do what Gigi does with routines roughly - feed, play, sleep except for nighttimes. Also around the 7pm feed I do a bath as well!

Caro - Big hugs! Hopefully the medication helps...wow - it certainly is costing a lot though - it will be worth it if it works though!!
OMG - what a day for you!!! I bet your glad it's all over though...
Yeah thanks - I'm going to head to the chemist tomorrow and get somethings to have on hand...He seems alot better though so I'm going to assume it was diet related...

Gigi - Thats great Ella is having some naptime again - you really need it for your sanity!
Sounds like Mimi is going really well as well!
Bugger at not having a dryer - I wouldn't cope without one at the moment! I just use it for towels and nappies but I have a load of those every 2nd day!
Glad your walk went well! Dylans not really having the second side at the moment so I can't offer you advice - LOL! Is she going ok times between feeds???
Hope you enjoy your minestrone - I bought ingredients to make some as well this week!

Deb - I can understand on the busyness! Wow at coming to Aus in July - what a big trip! Don't stress too much about personals - just do what you can! Sorry I haven't had a chance to look at your piccies just yet...

Krysalyss - I agree - I hope Caro doesn't go either!! Glad Iggy is well - what a great hubby to do that for you!

Jen - Yeah! Great to see you in here!! Woohoo! Sorry to hear your having bf dramas...I hope it all settles for you soon...

Cherie - Big hugs!!! I hope Jambin starts gaining weight for you soon - I'm sure he will!!!

Disgirl - Wow on going to the footy - hope it went well!! Glad the feedings getting a bit quicker. Dylans finally down to 6 feeds a day now! I think he'll probably stay like that for a little while though before sleeping through the night....

Sammy - Wow on his growth!! Thats fantastic! I know what you mean about the over feeding...although Dylan seems to be better at telling me when he's had enough now which is helpful!

Danni - Yeah on Masons big sleep!! Yep - it's freezing here today!! Thanks - yep - was good to get away but a little bit stressful at the same time iykwim?? Dylan did really well with the big car trip though which was great! Wow - he is a piggy la isn't he?? hehe. Sounds like he's thriving though!

Well - I've done my best and have no idea what I've written through blurry eyes - LOL! Catch up tomorrow!

    Cool

    G'day ladies

Sorry been so long, but Patrick's deciding to be grizzly. Lucky his nickname is "polar bear" so he's now a "grizzly bear".

Went to the MCHN today, he's put on weight but I have forgotten how much, he's now over 4kg though! And getting taller - another 2cm.

Danni et al - I may just get a motillium prescription - I was going to go to the health food store tomorrow for feenugeek (sp?) tablets ... but if it makes you smell, I really don't want to take it. Don't think the Maxalon has really done anything.

Must say, I am enjoying that cause he's mostly on formula, I got an entire night's sleep on Saturday night! DF took all the feeds overnight then, and I got to "rest" between about 10pm and 11am ... mind you, he only fed at 12:30 / 4:30 and 7:30.

Gigi -we were going to do the walk, but sleeping in sorta got rid of that crazy notion! Seems like we may have the same symptoms but different births - I had only TENs machine & pethadine (1 shot) for pain relief, no forceps and not posterior. Still feels weird, and it tires really quickly.

Anyhows, I'm off to do thankyou cards *rolls eyes* can't believe I haven't sent them out yet.

Be good all, keep your health and enjoy the sleep you get.

sorry to hear olivia is unwell....how heartbreaking Mason has been bringing up a lot of milk lately and it really upsets me. BUT his nappies are always so full after 3 hours so i guess he is still getting enough.

Kristie: glad you had a good time away. Dont worry about the bomb site. My house looks the same and I dont have any excuses!

Kaz: my gf took maxalon and didnt notice a change. I am on my third day of motillium and I am only taking 2 tablets instead of 3 and I have noticed a huge change. I am still taking fenugreek capsules as well, but have not noticed a smell at all

    hi All,
I am sitting here with little one on a pillow on my lap. He has just been fed. I love that quiet period when they are so content afterwards. I have had to totally give up chocolate though! He gets the worst wind. It is so upsetting for both of us. Having said that I hunted down milky bar (cocoa free) and he seems fine even if I eat a whole heap like I did last night. lol. Iggy is eating heaps now and has dropped his long sleep during the night. We are back to 3 hour feeds. Hopefully once he gets over this growth spurt we will have bit longer between again. Have you guys had much success bf'ing in public? I hate it still as my technique at home isnt the most modest n out n about it is more difficult. I totally understand everyone who is having bf'ing difficulties. I really underestimated the skill involved before I started. It has suddenly gotten easier for me in the last couple of days - less painful. So yay! Finally! We are going up to the sunshine coast this weekend to see friends and inlaws. I have finally stopped bleeding so maybe I can go swimming! Still havent DTD. Have any of you? I am very aprehensive as things still just dont feel right.
Anyway I better run. Hope you all have a great day.
    xo
