Hi all
Misty I hope you're feeling better now and can organise sitters etc for your night out - it's so important to get some 'me time' WITH our DP/DH. I do get you tho about the 'suprise' element being more stressful than just knowing what was going on!
Having said that I bailed on our intended 'date' on Jan 5 as Orla still isn't up with drinking breast milk from a cup. DP went to the concert with the babysitter! (actually a good friend of ours). Oh well it was probably a bit amtitious a plan - we'll start with a dinner out and work up from there I'm heartened too by some tales from friends who also had fully BF bubs - seems they often won't take BM from a cup til they start experimenting with solids and get used to having all sorts of strange things in strange ways. At this rate that won't be long here: Orla has taken to grabbing my spoon/fork off me and trying to put whatever I'm eating in her mouth (with varying levels of success/mess) ! Sometimes the food isn't suitable for her age so I've started giving her bits of food to 'play' with instead....I'm shocked at how well she used a spoon from just watching us!
Orla's rash is healing up well Hoping to switch to normal bottom cream of some sort next week.
On a more sober note we've been given notice to move from our house (being sold). I very much doubt we can afford to stay in Northcote on one income - rents here have skyrocketed as the suburb has become 'gentrified'. I Hate househunting plus I'm really down on how well we'd look on a rental application with only one income......
Going to check out a place in the next suburb we heard of through friends - a lease-break - fingers crossed!

Misty - how'd your date go? No words, teeth, sitting up alone or anything much here. How great that Baz's first word was Mum.
koru - oh no! That's the last thing you need to worry about house hunting and then packing.

M must be going through a growth spurt or something. She is super hyper, flapping her arms all around the place, and making panting noises. She's pulling on and off at the boob and it really hurts. I am in the process of weaning as one of my nipples has a sore on it. I jump each time when she fusses.

We're painting M's room today so I reckon that in a few days or so we can move her in. I went out and bought some pink sheets for her during the week. On the look out for a nice quilt set or something to girlie it up a bit.

Misty - I heard something from D that sounded very much like 'mama' this morning too! He is not quite there yet but maybe not far off. Both my older kids started saying 'mama', 'dada', 'nana' etc at 6 months.

Saffi - You can get some great stuff on line for the kids rooms.

Well we are having a shocking time with sleep atm He keeps rolling in his sleep onto his tummy and either waking himself up or waking on his tummy and then crying cause... he's on his tummy Last night was one of our worst nights ever and I wanted to punch something by about 3am!! I do not handle lack of sleep well

Yesterday's naps were not great either because...he kept rolling over onto his tummy!!! Arrrggggh!!

Today has been much better, he's had his usual 2x 1.5-2hr naps so far so we'll see how this afternoon goes. I'm dreading tonight though....

Misty How did date night go? I'm a little jelous! DH and I have only been out once and that was with a group of people. We don't have family up here and I feel strange leaving Josh with friends, I need to get over that!!

Staffi J used to wake up at midnight so I started a dream feed, have you tried that? I just boob him before I go to bed, he doesn't wake up while I do it and now he sleeps through, at first it was till between 3 and 4 but now he is waking up around 5.45, which is AMAZING! Owwww about you nipple! That doesn't sound like fun at all.

Wilow how frustrating! Poor little ones have so much going on that they really don't understand everything they can do! I hope last night went better for you.

AFM I have been a bit stressed and grumpy! DH has been away for work all last week and is going to be away for most of feb. I have so much respect for single mum's its just hard doing everything alone and not being able to even have 5 mins to just stop. J has lots all interest in solids, he was loving it but he wont even open his mouth anymore. Has anyone had that issue? I have been trying everyday but he is starting to get a bit upset so Ithink i'll stop i dont want him to associate feed and grumpieness together! I wish it was a bit cooler it's 8.30 and i'm already sweating! We are off to the pool now for our Mum and Bubs aqua class, hope everyone has a great day!

Chow - M has been going to bed around 9.30pm and I pretty much go to bed then too. A few times we have done a dream feed with varying degrees of success. DH usually goes to bed between 10.30 and 11pm so he can/has done it, but I would think she'd still be full from her earlier feed. I suppose I can set the alarm to go off at midnight (for eg) and see if that works.
We haven't tried M on solids yet, but with DS we started at exactly 6 months. TBH he didn't really get into it until closer to 7 - 8 months. Don't know what you are feeding him, but DS was never really big on farex so maybe try something else?
Willow - yeah, been looking online. Went to Ikea today but there was nothing really nice there.

FIL was sick yesterday so we didn't get M's room painted. DH has done all the prep work tho and he may even get the undercoat done tomorrow and then its just the weekend to paint the wall.

I was wondering if I could please join in? My DS was born 17 Aug, but that group is gone bunch of slackers we were (I think there are some in here, saffi, issy02, koru and trish) I was rach81, changed my name.
Anyway it would be great to get to know you guys and chat about our bubs etc....
Just quickly about us, my DS is called Eli and he is an ICSI pixie, fluffy light brown hair, nice and tubby - but long in the body too, he has one tooth, just started him on rice cereal once a day last week, he can forg crawl across the room 0 now I have to be quick! I am 100% BF, loving being a mum!
Can't wait to meet all of you and your bubs too!

Hi everyone, sorry for no more persies E has woken up! We are going well, just getting not much sleep ATM. She is waking up for about 5 or so feeds a night again so I'm feeling really really tired. Oh well, hopefully I can catch up on some sleep during the day next week when DD1 is at school She is rolling so well now, we had to buy her a mat for the floor - we have hard floors and she kept bumping her head when she rolled back onto her back, poor little thing.

Oh Meg's mum!!!

We are going well, just getting not much sleep ATM. She is waking up for about 5 or so feeds a night again so I'm feeling really really tired.

We are exactly the same!!! I was thinking I shouldn't feed him each time - but he just goes straight for boob everytime he wakes up - I was thinking he was hungry!!! Maybe not? He usually gets up 2-3 times, but last night was 5!!! Is it just a growth spurt? He seems hungry a lot! Anyone else in the same position??
Also, DS has started to crawl pretty efficiently now, could this be another reason he is hungry? He is only having rice cereal once a day ATM.

Hi everyone

Rach - welcome back! I reckon the mods should rename this thread to August 2009. Good to hear that Eli is doing so well. I read today that any recent development can effect their sleep as they are practicing what they have learned to do. So maybe when he wakes overnight he is practicing something and can't settle back to sleep without help which to him means a feed????
Megs - wow 5 feeds! Do you co-sleep at all? I take M into bed with me when she wakes up overnight and she spends the rest of the night feeding as she pleases. Not ideal but for me its better than getting up, sitting up with her, putting her back down etc.

Had a good day today as M managed to have 2 naps! I have been really watching her tired signs and acting on them straight away. I also had naps so feeling pretty good.

Nothing much else happening here. Its been so hot up here the last few days even the aircon doesn't provide much relief. M and I get so sweaty when she feeds and is up close to me.

Girls we are the same at night atm. Last night I really tried to resettle instead of feed every time and he only had 3 feeds between 7pm and 5.30am so that was an improvement. I don't know what the answer is but I don't want to go down the same path I did with DS1 who didn't sleep through the night until 10 months and that was only after we got really tough on him. Don't want to go there again. One of our biggest problems though is him rolling in his sleep. He can't roll back onto his back yet so it's very frustrating.

So my plan for now is to try to resettle if he wakes under 3 hourly. He is cutting a tooth atm (#3 ) so I'm not being too strict with it just yet. Once he pops the tooth and he starts on solids (probably next week) I'm going to try a lot harder to resettle rather than feed.

Better go, he's grizzling for a nap, but just wanted to let you know you aren't the only ones!!

Thanks Saffi and Willow - maybe it is just thier age? DS has one tooth. But I think what is actually waking him up is the fact he is 'crawling' in his cot! :O He finds the only two spots not covered by the airwrap cot bumper and bumps his head. He has also been a tummy sleeper for about 2 months or so. Although he can roll back and forth again he bumps himself . I also gave him 2 feeds during the night and again at 8 ish, settled him the other times. I though he was going to be a good sleeper, OH DEAR!!! Not to worry....

Ellee - I was looking into swimming for DS too! Let me know if your little one enjoys it!

Megsmum - hope you got some more sleep
Today we are going to see my frineds new baby, born yesterday. I don't know how much he weighed or anything yet! I am so excited to see them both. I love birth stories

Hello everyone. Have had a friend visiting from out of town, hence my absence.

Friday night out was great
DH took me to a very nice, very expensive italian restraunt ( I LOVE Italian), and then we went to the movies and watched Sherlock Holmes (good movie). Six blissful hours without the kids.

Baz was fabulous for mum, he even drank the formula I left without complaint ( was unable to express because he didn't leave enough in my BB's to express, going through a growth spurt). And so mum has agreed to babysit the kids once a month for us to go out. Although I doubt she will hold to that, trying to pin her down is hard, she is always busy - but at least we would get out more often. It is good having a happy settled baby who I can leave with others, I've never had one of those before LOL.

Baz has yet to get any teeth, but he is definitely more grizzly then usual and is gumming everything in sight. He is really wanting to eat too. We have started some solids (very erratically as I just forget to "feed" him), and he is loving it. I should probably try to get in a routine with solids, so I remember he gets them.

Saffi - Yep have been cosleeping Its the only way I could manage during the day, at least I can feed her lying down and go back to sleep - well sort of - while she feeds. Totally agree with you though, it sure beats getting up and down half the night, I'd get heaps less sleep if I was doing that. I'm hearing you with the weather too, it has been soooo humid here, feeding E is a very hot and sweaty business!

Willow - Glad you had a bit of an improvement last night, sounds like a good plan. That is a bugger about the rolling, E does the same but she can now roll back onto her back too, so she sorts herself. Although she is a fan of tummy sleeping which I just hate. But oh my gosh at another tooth, he is a little tooth producing machine isn't he LOL

Rach - I wonder about the age thing too, or something developmental like Saffi said. I know E's sleeping problems pretty much coincided with her getting rolling all worked out. Honestly though, I think you just do whatever works best for you to get through it. My DD1 sleeps all night (most nights) now so it won't be forever!

misty - Glad you and DH had a lovely night out.

AFU, well last night was betterish. Only 2 feeds BUT she didn't settle till midnight LOL I can't win! I've got no idea what's up with her except for what I mentioned above the extra feeds overnight coinciding with the rolling. Also they started when school holidays started too, so maybe next week when DD1 goes to school things will get better. DD1 is a bit noisy during the day so I think maybe E gets less sleep when she is around which affects night time sleeping?? Maybe...I know I get less sleep when DD1 is around, if I want a little rest and I ask her to be quiet, she just whispers at me instead of yelling ROFL

Hope everyone is having a nice day We have our first swimming lesson tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that - E just LOVES the water.

Misty: How are you going with your P's? WTG Baz saying Mum. So exciting! Your date sounded lovely. Need to do something with DH but we don't really have anyone to leave DD with here and there is only one place to go for dinner.

Cass Blob: Sounds like Eli is doing really well. Sounds like you've got a little helper in your 3yo

Chow: WOW 9.5kg Nice healthy bubba. for the sleeping through

Willow: DD is distracted while feeding also, she is too worried about playing and grabbing everything with her hand.

Salboo: I kind of understand your frustration with being home alone all the time. DH has been working 3days 6 nights 3 off (one of which he sleeps) He is gone for 13.5hrs and on night shift we really only see him for the 40mins in the afternoon while he is getting ready.

Saffi: Have you thought anymore about extending your leave? I'm clinging to the fact that the day care centre here was closed down so we have no childcare facilities. There is a waiting list for the Family Day Care lady too. How is the room decorating going?

Koru: How is the househunting going. Moving is such a big deal. How awesome that Orla is eating with a spoon. Glad to hear her rash is clearing up.

Rach: How exciting fo new babies. Amazing how much more it means now we have our own huh.

MegsMum: for the rolling. DD has slowed down. She can do it but isn't too fussed anymore.

AFU: I'll keep it quick DD is getting cranky Swimming lessons are going great. She already understands when I give her a queue to close her eyes and mouth holding her breath. No words here. She is sitting if I put her in the position but the amount of time varies greatly from a few seconds to 20 mins. We haven't done solids yet. She is 6 months on Wednesday but only now should be 5 months. She is starting to watch us eat just this last week So will try her next week. Going to avoid wheat. No teeth although definate signs of teething. We too have regressed in sleep and are waking minimum 3-4hourly. Driving me insane. No signs of crawling yet. Can't believe needles again next week. Going to get her weighed too. We did weigh her by me holding her minus my own weight and she is about 6.6kg. She is becoming a chubba bubba. (for her ) Wearing 00 in the all in one sleep suits still 0000 shorts, 000 shirts. She is quite long though.

Sounds like a lot of us have had a sleep regression that has coincided with rolling/starting to crawl? Hopefully that's all it is and eventually they'll settle.

DS started out such a great sleeper and I was so relieved because DS1 wasn't so great and I didn't want to have to work so hard at it this time around I guess time will tell.

I'm also hoping once the weather cools down a bit he won't need to feed so much at night. It gets up to 30 in our bedroom quite regularly, so, so hot. And he is still wrapped! Once his tooth pops that's something else I'm going to do - slowly wean him off his wrap.

Aren't we chatty today LOL

Night sleeps aren't the best here but we are getting better with daytime sleeps. Yesterday she had 2 x 1 hour naps and today so far she has had an hour nap. I am hopeful that she will have another today. I think the heat takes it out of her.

Ellee - I had a chance to extend my leave and didn't take it. The Payoffice didn't process my latest lot of leave and I had to ring them up about it. If I had really wanted to I could have spoken to my boss about extending my leave before this leave was processed but didn't. I think DH is keen to have a break and look after her.
Room decoration has stalled as we are waiting for FIL to come in and help us. DH could do it by himself but I think the ILs are keen to be involved.
Misty - yay for the night out. I knew it would turn out. DH and I are going out without the kids on Saturday night. My ILs have babysat a few times now. They are always keen and sometimes even suggest that we should go out just so they can babysit.

M is so ready to try solids. I had my MG here today and while one of the other mums was nursing M she grabbed a chip off the table and started gumming it, then started to chew on a plate and then started licking it. I ended up giving her a rusk which she seemed interested in. We were going to wait until exactly 6 months to the day but might look at starting this weekend.

Anyway M is showing tired signs so best be off and feed her and get her down for a sleep before DS wakes up.

Good Morning Everyone

Wow so glade that everyone else is having sleep issues! Just because I said Josh was sleeping though he has started to wake again. Last night it was 3 times which was so frustrating! I am still feeding him when he wakes as its so hot at the moment I think it might be due to the heat. We also had a massive day yesterday and he only had about an hour and a half sleep all day when he usually has at least 3 hours. He is down now and i'm hoping tonight will be lots better! Mind you this week he has worked out how to sit without being held, and also how to "crawl" forward so with his rolling and back crab crawl he can get anywhere and every thing he wants.
Dam have to run Josh is up again we really need AC upstairs he must be thirsty again

Saffi - we wanted to wait till exactly 6 months too, but I thought maybe he was waking so much at night cause he was hungry.... not sure now However he LOVES rice cereal! I mix it with expressed BM and he gets so upset when it is finished! He was excatly 5months when we started him on RC.

I am wanting to keep him on RC for about a month before introducing any veggies etc, does this sound right? First timer here so not too sure! He is already quite chubby and I don't want himt o get too big by introducing foods too quickly IYKWIM. He is also quite long, I guess they are all different hey. He is in a size 1 already, he does have room to grow but still he is only 5.5 months, he weighs about 8kg. He doesn't look overweight just 'festively plump' as we call him!

Willow - hope you get some good nights sleep soon!
