    Hi ladies,

Kim - fantastic news! Good luck with the new pregnancy, hope the belly grows nicely!

Bec & Molly- well done on the bf for sooo long. bec, i know how hard it is to express at work and congratulate you for keeping it up. Such determined mummies!

Re: the cows milk. I have been giving Ela cows milk too with her weetbix in the morning and she hasn't had any reactions. I am planning to stop formula when she gets to 11months and start cows milk. i'll be getting the special cow milk for kids with the added vits and mins and omegas and all sorts. We are having trouble feeding her at the moment. She won't sit still long enough, so we entertain her by giving her toys to play with or a book to look at. Not good habits i know but as long as she eats.
I gave her some egg the other morning with her toast and she loved it, white bits and all.

She has her top left canine coming out. You can see it in the gum and it has reached the gum line, so it's any day now. I rub bonjela on her gums at night and that seems to settle her through the night and only wakes 1-2 times. I also give her panadol on some nights when i see that sheis extremely grizzly.

She makes us all laugh and is so entertaining. She has this wide smile which she makes and squints her eyes at the same time, so adorable.

I'm not the only one planning for 1st birthdays! We have a set date of 2nd of August and day after her real birthday. We want a fairy theme, as her room has fairy borders and stickers throughout. We plan on a visit from the fairy to entertain the kids. Can't wait!

Ela is standing too. She will stand for 1-2 mins when occupied with something in her hand or watching telly and also squats up and down.

    take care all...

    Just a quick post.
had a really bad evning with Ela. We took Devrim bowling and just after one bowl, Ela threw up all over herself. Of course, being mums, i had to leave and take Ela home (which is only 2 mins away) got her undressed, dressed, gave her some milk and drove back! DH and Devrim had already by that time finished one game and was half way through the second. I lost interest as i was soooo grumpy and let them play for me.
We got home andnoticed Ela was getting a temperature but she fell asleep relatively easily only to wake 1/2 hour later, hot as. We gave her some nurofen, undressed her and bathed her, which she hates when she's sick, so she was crying all the time in the bath and getting dressed. I gave her some weetbix to fil up that empy tummy which she emptied out at the bowling centre. Nurofen was quick to set in and she became her playful self again after scoffing down a bowl of weetbix and Nurofen. At 11pm, we put some bonjela on her gums and off she went to sleep. A real horror of a night.
Just wanted to share that. Canine teeth are the hardest to break through i've heard, so it's been a real bummer of a teething period for poor Ela and us. I can't wait til they finally rupture through.
    Take care.

    Hey everyone!

Serah - I hope that tooth comes in real fast for Ela.

Kim - Congratulations!! Stick lil bubba!

Well, what an eventful fortnight! Jensen has been soo sick! He's had diarreah, vomiting, no eating - and sooo clingy. It's been horrible.Went to the doctor last week and was given antibiotics. Didn't work. Went to another dr and was told if he wasn't better by monday to see the dr again. Tuesday saw another dr (first one and 3rd one from the same practice) who gave me some different antibiotics coz the others weren't working (and actually cared whether I was getting better or not). He also told me that probably the only thing keeping Jensen out of hospital - coz he was dehydrated and not eating - was that he was drinking some breastmilk. OMG did that flip me out. He told me that by Wed afternoon that Jensen should be feeling better. Tues arv after a nap he was a different kid! Actually could put him down and he'd play by himself! He ate food! Hes so much better now! Thank you doctor! He's still got the runs, so we're headed back to the dr today about that.

He's not sleeping properly at night and we think he's having nightmares/night terrors. He seems to be wide awake but screams like he's in a scary world of his own. It was horrible. It lasted about 5-10minutes, but seemed to come out of it ok, but wouldn't go back to sleep. Finally when he was back to sleep, I had the nightmares then.

Better go, Jensen's not sleeping long during the day anymore and I have to call the federal wageline ppl about the work problem which hasn't been resolved yet.

Oh - Jensen's been entered into the Mother and Baby magazine "Coverstar" competition.... If you want to check him out (and help to make him one of the most viewed babies - when I checked last he was on page 79 of the most viewed babies) Thanks!

    Hi All,

Took Ela to the doctors on Wednesday night for a checkup since we had such a bad night which carried through to the day as well. The dr. checked her ears, chest and her mouth and told us that her tonsils were quite bad and that she had tonsilitis! Poor bubba. Gave her some antibiotics and she is all well now even though i can see the white of her canine's so she's nearly there at popping one of them through.

Rhi- poor Jensen. Ela was the same. Hope he's feeling much better now. Don't you love winter! We gave Ela some Hydralite when she had the runs from the last lot of antibiotics she had. Maybe try that to prevent deyhdration??
I have to check out the Mother and Baby website. Good luck with that!

    Take care all..

Urgghhhh, seems like we all have grumpy sad sick little bubbas at the moment

Milla has croup. Poor thing. It started just as a very little cold with nothing but a bit of snot, and just suddenly yesterday she got a hacking cough, and she's lost her voice. Took her to the doctors late yesterday and she said its croup, so we have some meds to give her, and we are steaming up her room at night with a Vicks Vaporizer. She slept really well though, and I didn't need to give her boobs til 4:30 this morning, which is great! This is the first time she has been sick (other than one earlier cold), first time to the doctors for anything other than vaccines, and first meds. Breaks my heart.

Hope Ela and Jensen are better soon, and hope those teeth finally pop through for them, and Hayden too. Milla has one on the top that has been hovering just below the surface for a month too. Looks like two more bottom ones are not far away either.

Kim, hope you are feeling good! Have you had a scan yet? I'm so excited for you! Makes me clucky just thinking about newborns.

    Take care everyone! x

    Campari,

May be time for bub #2 then my dear!

Wishing Milla to get well soon. I've very frightened of croup as Devrim had many times as a bub and the dr. told me that the bacteria or virus which ever it is, can tighten the airways making breathing difficult. I remember that we could not sleep for the first nights scared to death if you couldn't breathe. The vaporiser should help.

    Good luck..
    Take care all.

Good morning ladies (well it's morning now)!

Ela is 11 months today! 1 month till her birthday. We are planning a birthday on the 30/08. This is because mum is having a hysterectomy tomorrow and will give her heaps of time to recover. She has been diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Luckily it hasn't spread outside the uterus. This also means that Ela will be starting child care in the next 1-2 weeks (DH is home on annual leave til then)
I am so afraid that they will treat her poorly at child care but i have no other option. It is going to be tough.

No canine's yet. They are happily sitting in the gums still.

Ela is now able to stand from a sitting position on her own without holding onto anything. She gets so excited when she does it, she claps and smiles. She just won't take that step though!
She hates socks. Does anybody else have this issue? She is not comfortable until those socks come off her little fat feet. She loves emptying out all the drawers and anything else she can empty out!

I have begun giving her cows milk during the day. I've got the Pura Kids milk with all those added extra vits and mins. She is taking to it quite nicely. She used to have a bit of cows milk everyday with her weetbix. What do you ladies feed bubs for breakfast? Ela has gotten a bit tired of weetbix. I ocassionally give her toast with some egg and cheese. She has only recently begun eating egg and seems to have no allergies.

Rhi- Jensen looks so cute in his photo! I have also entered Ela (Ela Safiye Cubuk). She is currently on page 4 on the newest babies section. Goodluck to both!

    So cold and miserable outside..

    Take care all.

Finally!! A small chance to pop in here for updates!

Jensens nap time seems to be always cleaning up after him, or dh, the dishes etc. No rest for the wicked!

We are back on the teething path, this time I think canines, by the way he's been acting. It's like having a newborn again... Waking every 2hrs, 20-30 min calming him back to sleep, do it all again. Was good last night tho.

(pff don't know what happened there, it just posted with out me telling it to...)

Work appears to be sorted out now, fingers crossed! If all goes well, I return to work on the 14th of this month. I'll be working permanent part-time (so I have benefits and everything) 3 nights a week. 5pm to 10pm (or later depending if theres a run on). Decent hourly rate, although I must double check about penalty rates. I'm very happy with this out come, I was starting to stress about leaving him. Seems I would be the one with seperation issues. Jensen will be with my grandma (and my dad coz he lives there) from 430pm til when Andrew picks him up between 530-6pm, then its up to Andrew to feed, bathe, settle and get Jensen to sleep. Now I worry how thats going to go... I put a thread up on that, but only one person seemed to answer! I put Jensen to sleep the other night and he woke up an hour later. I sent Andrew in and Jensen just cried for 5mins, stopped instantly when I walked in. I picked him up, cradled him in my arms and he was asleep in what seemed like that minute! Cheeky monkey. This is going to be hard.

Rhi- Hope Milla is feeling better!

TD - Oh! Sorry to hear about your mum, hope everything goes well and shes up again soon. Just found Ela's entry in the competition - What a bright-eyed gorgeous girl you have there! Socks come off here too, I try and keep them on by putting shoes or sandals on over the top

No standing here! cirlces around my legs, cruises the furniture, pushes his walker around (and yesterday a stride/ride car thing). I think he could do it if he didn't think about it. Maybe he's just not that interested. He does get around quite fast crawling, and the stairs seem to be no hassle...

Kim and Rhi - will you be going to the Brisbane Meet up (Roma Street Parklands) next friday? We'll be there, if you wanted to meet up?

Hope everythings well with everyone else!
    go maroons!

    Hey everyone!

TD, so sorry to hear about your mum. I hope the hysterectomy is all she needs, and that she is Ok after that. My mum had to go through breast cancer with chemo and radiation several times over a few years, so I know the stress and worry you are probably all going through.

I'm sure Ela will be OK in child care. I think its us mums who have it harder. When I am at Mum's Group with Milla I think she has such a great time with the other babies and other mums that she wouldn't notice if I were to up and leave her... She really loves being around people, so in a way I think child care will be OK for her, if we ever get her in to one!!!! We are on 9 waiting lists, and have only had one possible lead with a FDC mum who lives locally, but isn't registered, so I have some thinking to do about that one. In the mean time, DH will take some flex, and my sister will look after her a few times.... I go back to work in August, 2 days a week, so soon now

Scone - glad you got your work sorted out, sounds like a good deal. I reckon it will be a bit tough on Andrew and Jensen the first few nights, but after that they will figure out what works for them.

Milla's croup is all gone. The predmix stuff worked really quickly to clear up the cough, and she just had a snotty cold for another few days. All great now though, and back to her mischievous self. She is waking up again at 2-ish, which is annoying as she was going through til 4 or so without a feed up til last week.

I reeeeeeaaaaalllly want to stop feeding at night. I still dont have AF back, and we were hoping to TTC #2 around December or so. I always cave in and feed her though, after DH has tried to settle her for half an hour and she is screaming in his arms... Blah. We both have to be more strict about the no-boobs thing, but when she is sick, it wasn't fair...

She's a toothy monster now too - got 4 on the bottom, and 3 on top. The 4th top one is visible but not through the gum yet. She gives us loads of kisses, but does try and nip us on the nose sometimes. Have to stop ourselves from laughing when she does that, as its pretty cute to start with. DH has a blood nose right now as she clawed him in the nose - even after I cut her fingernails today!!

Don't think I will go to the meet-up on Friday. I have mum's group, its my favourite social outing of the week... But another time I would love to catch up with you guys and meet Jensen too!

Better go... got to get her out of the bath (DH is in with her...but he can't get her out by himself, Grrrrrrrrrr!!!)

    Hi Ladies,

I am soooo excited. Ela has been chosen "baby of the day" in the Mother and Baby Coverstar comp. You can check her out in the "winners gallery". She is the one with the green frog. I really hope she makes it into the 14 finalists

My mum had her op on Wednesday and she is recovering o.k. but says that it's really painful. I feel so bad that i can't help ease the pain. I helped her shower in hospital today, the scar is soooo long. I would say approx. 30cm from her belly button down.

Ela had her first day of orientation at cc on Friday. She was o.k, when i dropped her off but had tears running down her cheeks when i went to pick her up. She couldn't get to sleep so was over tired. DH came along with me to pick her up but Ela wanted to be comforted only by me which got me really emotional. I got her to sleep once we got home, but was sobbing in her sleep. She was really traumatised by the experience. Dad has offered to look after her but then mum won't be able to get any peace and quiet so we rejected his offer until mum gets a bit better.

Campari - i hear you loud and clear re: the night feeds. Ela wakes up every 3 hours on the dot for a feed. You can set your clock by it! I get angry at her but then talk myself into believing that she will stop waking up eventually or that she is already 11 months old and her wakings will stop soon. I am very lucky that DH and i share the night rosters. He wakes once to feed her and then i will wake the next time to feed her so we both get a long stretch of sleep during the night. But you bf is another story altogether!! You have to do all the night wakings.

I went to a BB mums meeting her in VIC on Friday. Made friends with one of the mums as she had an 8 y.o and i have a 6 y.o but most of the mums kept in small groups and didn't really mingle.

Scone - babies are very intelligent. They know everything! Have you considered leaving a nightgown or something in his cot with your smell on it?? Jensen may be a bit old for that but it's worth a try. Ela prefers me to anybody else too.

When they want to get somewhere those arms and legs can move soooo fast can't they?? Ela pushes the dining chairs around the dining room. We have floorboards and those felt squares under the chair legs so the chairs slide as she pushes them. She looks funny. Ela also loves sitting under things, like under the dining table or billiards table, she loves it.

    Take care all..

    Hi!!

Rhi - Good to hear that Milla is better!! I hear you about stopping feeding at night. We're going through such a terrible "stage" (lets hope its a stage) atm. Jensen wakes at 10, 12, 2, 3 and 630. It's not such a bad thing - he goes back to "sleep" right away, but the moment he touches the mattress or moves away from me, he cries at the top of his lungs! It takes about 30-45mins to get him back to sleep. Nightmare child. This morning he was having bad dreams... thats worse. But I only have to feed once thru the night, the rest of the time he just wants a cuddle. He doesn't self settle, so its demanding.

TD - Congrats on Ela making baby of the day!! Fingers crossed that Jensen and Ela make it thru to be finalists!! We both make it, I'll meet you in Sydney!!
We've tried DH wearing my dressing gown, but he wasn't fooled. I have to go out tonight, so its a real test of skill !

Kim - I haven't started planning a party yet... We want a small family gathering with few friends, but both dh and I don't have small families!! And you can't invite one person and not the other coz they'd get narky... I asked dh about inviting mothers group and his answer was.. we'll it's his party and they are his friends.. grr The list will be huge.

We went to the toy sale yesterday (KMART) and put on layby a christmas pressent and bought a v early bday present. It's a trailer for our bikes that he sits in and gets towed along... He hated it with his helmet on, but didn't want to get out when we got home.

No walking yet, but he has a stride/ride thing that he can walk behind! For christmas (or his birthday) I wanted to get him a trike thing with canopy (from the Target Toy Sale), but was going to see if his grandparents wanted to go quarters in it.

Guess what!? I signed up to be a tupperware demonstrator!! Whoo hoo! I thought I could gain more confidence, not be a social recluse and prove to myself I can do it!

Hes finally awake after a crazy morning and I have a sick dh home today, better go! Have a great day!

    Hi Everybody,

Just popping in to say that Ela is walking . She took about 6 steps on Sunday night whilst i was home and then had to leave to go and care for my mummy. Ela and DH came to mums yesterday took a few more steps at her place too. At our home last night, DH tells me that she is walking 3-4 metres and throws herself on the floor laughing and screaming because she is happy that she can walk. I can't wait to go home and see her tonight!!

I think it might take her awhile to get used to the idea of walking though.

We are having Ela's birthday on the 26/7/08. A little early but have to due to DH shifts at work. So excited about planning a birthday!

    I'll post later on...

Woo hoo for Ela!!!! That is very exciting, and I hope you got to see lots of walking when you got home from work!

Scone - Milla is doing the same thing as Jensen with the night wakings. I am only feeding her once now, at about 3am, but last night she needed to be walked/rocked at 11 and 1 as well. She CAN self settle. She does it at 7pm when we put her to bed, and at all her day sleeps, but just in the middle of the night she hates being put back in her bed. We bring her in to our bed out of exhaustion, but as much as I love co-sleeping, sometimes she thinks its an invitation to party, and she jumps around all over us and is then awake for 2 hours while we are desperate for sleep. She is crazy! I don't know if its nightmares, or if she is scared of the dark (but we have a night light). She's not cold, cause we have the heater in there, and she's not hungry cause she is eating soooo much dinner. I considered doing what Kim said and giving her some night time solids, but don't want to get in to that as a habit!! Arghhh. Its wearing me out. For a while she was sleeping right through til 4am,and then **KAPOW** back to horror child.

Kim - How's your belly???!! Is it bigger this time round? My friends who are on to #2 popped out way sooner with their second pregnancy. I hope you are not too tired, running around after Hayden! Must be exhauting, I know how tired I got when I was pregnant (but not sure if it compares to how tired I am with this night time waking!!)
We are planning a picnic for Milla's first birthday with another bub from my mum's group who was born on the same day. So a joint party with lots of babies. I don't have family here, so its wont be too big on our part! Will just have cake etc in the park. I bought her some toys already from the Kmart sale - one of those little car things she can sit on and ride around on, and a baby doll. Otherwise she is getting books! She loves being read to, and really is the only time she will sit remotely still. She loves turning pages too, and now opens the flaps on books too - is very good at that!

    Better go..

Hello to everyone else! Hope Xavier, Colby, Emma, Ella, Arianna, Willa and all the others I have missed are all doing well too Would love an update!

    Mwah!

    Hey Hey,

How are you all. Just a quicky to say hi to all. and wish an early happy birthday to all the bubbas for the month of August.

I don't get many chances to come in here anymore, so you probably will see me o so very rarely.

I hope for Xavier to sleep more and my work to become less stressfull so I can come in more, but at the moment it's just not viable.

    Hey everyone,

just a quick note to say that I *may* have found the problem with Milla's hideous sleep issues of late... Literally for the past two weeks she was waking up over 6 times a night and taking ages to resettle (sometimes over an hour)...She was screaming and really hating being in her room/bed. Well, I read a bit about food preservatives, and realised that her horrible sleep started when I started giving her custard, made from custard powder. Normally all she eats is super healthy, home made, no sugars and no colourings. Anyway. I cut the custard out (I was giving it to her to try fatten her up, she was only 8.1kg at 10 months). The next night she slept soooo much better. Last night she slept non-stop from 7pm til 4am, had a feed then slept til 7am. This is such a massively huge improvement I am sure its related to her not having the yellow custard powder and sugar running around in her... I'll see how we go. So far its three blissful nights after a few weeks of terror.

Does anyone else give their bubs any really sugary/coloured stuff, and have you noticed any crazy behaviour?

    I'll keep you posted.

Hi, just popped in for a sec !! BBL tho....

I try not to give sugary stuff... either way, it doesn't seem to affect him. I wish it was as simple as what you've found!! He does tend to sleep better the nights he has a formula bottle (the nights I'm not home).

Jensen is only 8.2kg as of Friday last week (so we'll say 11mths). I'm not worried about fattening him up.... He eats so much he just burns it off, so I'm not too worried
