Hey all... Going to quickly type while i have five mins of silence!
Eloise has been awake, screaming, unsettled since 630 this morning... It's been horrible :( And poor DD1 has been doing alot of screaming, winging too... I think she's abuit jealous. DD1 keeps telling me to put Eloise down and come play :( I feel so bad for DD1. Although have been able to read DD1 alot of books while rocking Eloise in my arms...
Tk - I'm studying my B. of Nursing :-) have 2 years left (part time)
Yay for DD weight gain :) thats great :)
Ellee - Zahli and Eloise share the same birthday :) Have you tried some Wind remedies like Gripe water, infants friends, infacol? Also is she doing green poos (that is signs of wind) otherwise it could be something else like colic or reflux... (sounds a lot like Eloise - and shes a silent refluxer)
Saffi - Glad i'm not the only one almost in tears at the end of the day before DF comes home. Hugs hun.
Cheezel - Yay for peters weight gain! yay for the good sleeping, can he come and show eloise hoe to sleep hehe!
Hello to everyone else :) Hope you and your gorgeous babies are doing well :)
Miss Eloise has just filled her pants... But is quiet and asleep :( but going to have to disturb her...
I best be off take care
Hello everyone, I have been reading but not replying - sorry, I don't even have an excuse (although I did try to think of one before I responded, so I guess I have no imagination either  ).
My chubba bubba is (finally) sleeping atm, he is so tired I even managed to get him down in his snuggle bed, so my poor sore shoulders are having a break from holding him. My two little monsters are sitting quietly watching playschool and eating choclate mud cake - you can tell I am instilling some really good behaviours ino my children.
It is strange I see to be alternating between days when I think - OMG Why did I even have the three kids I did have! and trying to decide when I will have the next! I only just had bubs not quite 5 weeks ago and I am already thinking about having another! how crazy is that!
Damn Baz is waking up, lets hope he is just stirring and will goback to sleep.
Hope everyone is well. Sorry No personals atm - I am much to lazy :p
Hi all! We are a bit slow to join this thread....but thought id jump on to say hi!
I'm a first time mum to a beautiful baby girl, Chloe Jacinta, who was born (in a big hurry...nearly didn't make it to the hospital!) on 1st August, weighing 7lb 3oz.
My life is now amazingly hectic and im seriously sleep deprived, but im loving it!
It is great to read all your posts...and to see that im not the only one up at all hours of the night (and day!) with a crying baby! Although i would class Chloe as a generally placid baby, we think she has colic and has been screaming all day :wall:
hopefully she will wear herself out and get a good sleep 2nite :crossfingers:
Hoping that you and your gorgeous little ones are all doing well, and looking forward to reading more posts! :D
Hi All, hope you're all doing well.
Larne - Welcome to the thread :) It's reassuring to know you're not the only one going through "issues" hey. We think that DD has a bit of colic too - not nice.
Misty - You're a brave, admirable even, woman considering another baby so soon!
Cass Blob - How cool that our little cherubs share their birthday. We have tried both gripe water and infants friend a few times each. It does make a difference most times but I'm concerned if they get immune and it no longer works. I've read that this happens but not sure if it's true.
Saffi - thanks for the silent refluxer tip (that Cass Blob posted).
AFU - Miss Z seems to be getting worse with the reflux and colic symptoms. Can't wait to see the Pead next week. It is hard to know what is acceptable and when it becomes classed as an issue. Last night she gagged a lot and was sick quite a few times while sleeping. She cries and cries in her sleep and is getting harder to settle. She farts well once she can. She's had a couple of green poo's in the past but nothing that colour of late. Poor girl had diarroeah this morning but it was only one nappy (as I was changing her lol). Today I could hardly put her down because of her pains. But as you've probably seen in other post I ordered a swing so hopefully it will help her being upright.
Wishing you all a good sleep and happy baby :)
Hey Hey,
Ellee - I know exactly what its like having bubs with colic and reflux. My DD1 had them both and so does DD2. I wonder if its the breastmilk because DS was formula fed and we never had any issues. Not that I will stop breastfeeding, Im still going to persist. Do you find that DD's pains get really bad after feeds? My DD also does that gagging thing, its a bit scary. Im really interested to hear how you go at the paed coz my DD's symptoms sound just like your DD's.
Misty - Im also the same in wondering why I had three then also wondering when I could have the next one, but then I remember DH just got the snip. So I get a little disappointed, but I guess we could always get it reversed or adopt if we really really want another. DH definitely doesnt want any more though so I think it will just be the three for us.
Anyway Emily has lots of green poos, some are very runny, some are slimy almost, then she may have a normal gritty mustardy peanut pasty type of poo, but they are always a bit green in colour. Some poos are quite dark green too. After every feed it seems like she chucks most of it back up, bit she is still gaining weight so apparently its ok. I bought some Infants friend 2 days ago so have started using that, Im not sure if its really working yet. She doesnt like it thats for sure. Im starting to get the knack of getting it into her though just a little bit at a time but sometimes she will just spit it all out and make a mess. She does seems to be farting a lot more now LOL. But she is still a sooky baby and needs to be held all the time, and she is fussy about the way she is held too. If I try to put her down in her basinette she will wake almost immediately and become wide awake. Its very frustrating. The reflux doesnt seem to worry her too much so at this stage Im just concentrating on things to help the colic coz that is causing her a bit of pain. She seems to be pooing more now too which is annoying, but I guess as long as she is more comfortable. Im going to give it a couple more days with the infants friend and then stop and see if it makes any difference.
Anyway, Emily has been on the floor all this time on her playmat and she is getting upset now so I gotta go.
Bye for now.
Hey all,
How are you???
Eloise has got really bad lately with her reflux, the meds just don't seem to be working. I feel like we have gone backwards. She's still sleeping at night time, but during the day she just screams most of it, won't settle unless heldand even then most of the time we have to be standing up rocking.
She is spewing up alot more, I have had many many spews down the shirt :O and she screams sooo much after a feed and when she spews... Awwww my poor little princess, I wish i could take the pain away :(
I have an appointment with a pead Doctor on friday just to get a 2nd opinion and make sure there is nothing else wrong. We are also in the process of buying her a swing, as she loves her cousins one and will settle happily into it.
I'm really feeling for my DD1 as she's missing out alot of my time as Eloise is taking alot of it. And Handing Eloise to DF doesn't help as she gets really unsettled and screams louder until shes back with me (hmm seperation issues there)
Megan - Sounds like the infants friend is doing it's job. Let us kno how she goes.
Elle - I've heard that too... let us know how the pead goes, hope he/she gives you answers and some hints/tips you might be able to share :P
Larne - Welcome hun, hope everything is well, look forward to hearing from you more ;)
Misty - I've had that thought too! Right when Eloise lost her newborn smell ( i love that smell) Made me think OMG this can't be the last time I smell that. But then i thought no we have four, i've said no more, but want to change my mind already, i want DF to get the snip but then again i don't want to make it sooo hmmm, final...
Hope everyone else is well take care
Hi everyone!
Been a while since I posted mostly because 'Miss Perpetual Motion' here will sleep peacefully in her sling as long as I KEEP MOVING! She pipes up if I try to sit at the computer or - heaven forbid - lie down for a nap!
But I really shouldn't complain - after reading thru the recent posts I am quite certain I have an occasionally windy and sometimes just downright cranky baby. My heart goes out to you gals struggling with reflux.
Nice to hear from you again Ellee - I just noticed your daughter is name Zahli - is that an African name? I know a wee girl called Zahli whose dad is African (forgot which country) - it 'sa really ebautiful name :)
Welcome Larne!
Megan have you tried carrying Emily in a sling? I'd be lost without mine as Orla also wants to be held close all the time and wont sleep on her back during the day unless I'm napping with her.
Big 'hello' to everyone else - who can believe a month or more has passed already??!!!
Hi everyone
Been a little while since posted but have kept up with everyone's news.
Immi was 6 weeks old yesterday. We are settling into being a family of four. DS seems to like his little sister and we haven't had any jealousy issues. He is throwing some huge tantrums but he is nearly 2 so I guess that's to be expected.
Seems like I am not the only one with a windy baby. Immi appears to have about 80% of the silent reflux symptoms. She cries much of the day, only settles when we hold her and can only get her to sleep when feeding or by bouncing her and even then she only sleeps for a few minutes or so. She does a bit better overnight, but still up every couple of hours. Using Brauers colic remedy at the moment but I don't think its doing anything.
Saw the paed yesterday. He says that colic remedies don't work, but they don't do any harm either. Talked to the paed about Immi possibly having reflux. He said that a lot of the things Immi was doing was typical for a 6 week old baby and that in the next few weeks she should settle down a bit. He asked if she settles when I demand feed and hold her, if she does she probably doesn't have reflux as a baby with reflux wouldn't settle. He did give me a script for Losec in case she doesn't settle down.
Otherwise she is doing well. Is a little bit small so he supports formula compliment feeds and also thinks I should work on my supply.
Welcome Larne. I love Chloe for a name.
Sorry for the lack of personals. Hope the bubs are treating you all well and if not that they soon will.
Hello everyone, Hope you are all doing well.
How is everyone handling bubs atm? particularly you first time mums? I ask this because around the six week mark (some earlier some a little later) ALL babys go through a period of being extremely unsettled and demanding and honestly just plain stressful. Even the happy ones. No-one thought to tell me this with my first until AFTER it had happened. I was about ready to give my firstborn away at this age, and very nearly gave up b/f. So I hope everyone is coping much better then I did my first time round. I haven't quite hit that stage with DS2 yet, he is still a very happy bub, but I know from experience now that it will happen.
We went back to playgroup yesterday for the first time since I had Sebastian. One of the other mums there has a three month old baby boy, my son (who is five weeks) was about the same length, BUT much much heavier and rounder then him. He looked about the same age, if not older. I don't think Baz would win any awards for being a big baby, but in comparision to some of these smaller bubs around he certainly looks big. I have my six week appointment next weekend, It will beinteresting to see how much he weighs and how long he is. DD was always a big boofhead too, but DS1 was (and still is) quite petite.
Larne - welcome to the group.
Saffi - just be aware that comp formula feeds 'can' (but don't always) actually interfer and hamper your supply. I always have some of the individual sachets of formula in the cupboard 'JIC' (you know when you have been feeding non-stop for 12 hours straight and have nothing left in your deflated bb's). But I will only use it as a last resort in the first 3 months. Having said that I have had times where I have had to comp feed both of my other two whilst my supply built up around the six week mark, hence I have some sachets of formuls in the cupboard JIC I need it with Baz.
Koru - couldn't agree more with you about the sling. And Baz also seems to have this uncanny ability to know when I am sitting down and just rocking rather then standing up and rocking him.
Cass blob - I hope things get better with the reflux. It's not fun for either mum or bubs, My DD got a bit better with it when she was old enough to start solids and could sit up by herself. Good luck.
hey all! I dont have much time, but Id thought Id post quickly just to say were still alive haha
Today seems to be taking its toll on me grr! Daniel was 6 weeks yesterday and my god he has become a very unsettled baby. This morning I had to let him settle himself because he just wouldnt let me do it! Im very impressed he did actually, with minimal crying but he is starting to whinge in his sleep these past couple of nights, not sure why. We have also just started him on infacol to see if that helps with wind and the spews he does after/during a bottle
On the topic of another baby-at the moment I dont want another one for awhile but I will want more. I want to wait until Daniel is a bit older and can understand me and also want he wants.
Ok well seeing as this is the only time Ive got I might go lie down! The housework can wait LOL hopefully Ill be back on later to catch up more!
Have been keeping up with everyone's posts but have been slack in posting myself!
Came down with a bad cold several days ago, then yesterday had a very sore right breast. Didn't worry too much about it until last evening I developed a terrible fever, I felt delirious! Suspected it may have been mastitis and took myself to my GP this morning whom he confirmed my fear. Theres nothing like losing your dignity when he asked me to drop my pants and bend over so he could jab a big needle of penicillin in my bum. He gave me some antibiotics as well so hopefully this nips it in the bud!(no pun intended...) I'm glad I went to the doctors today, he said another 24 hours and it could have become an abcess (ouch!) No more lazy feeding Max while lying in bed for a while...
Cass- Hope everythng went well with the paed, and Eloise is ok.
Larne- Welcome, I love the name Chloe!
Hi to everyone else, will post again soon.
Hiya,
Been MIA die to a thoroughly crap week - more on that later....
Salboo so sorry to hear about the mastitis - sounds hideous! How are you feeling now pet?
Thanks Misty for the heads up on the 6week 'change' - I had heard about it and am wondering if that could mean the opposite too? My DD won't settle for hours in the evening and its often midnight before she sleeps - maybe she will miraculously settle at 6 weeks? Here's hoping!
Rhia was it your baby who had the hormonal pimples? Looks like Orla has sprouted them all over her lovely peachey cheeks too :( How long did it last if I may ask?
OK so my crap week is probably nothing compared to having a baby with reflux or other illnesses, or dealing with mastitis but I was feeling pretty sorry for myself nonetheless. For some reason whenever it was sunny events conspired to keep me at home (like waiting all (*(&&^%5 day for a tradesman who was supposed to come between 9 & 11am ) or else it was bucketing down so in effect spent 6 days in a row couped up at home - not in itself so terrible except I was all alone without help from DP as he'd managed to schedule himself 2 nights and all weekend teaching at uni on top of his normal work so I had to deal with "Little Miss Cranky" all by myself without naps cos she insisted on perpetual motion  I totally cracked it yesterday and threw a plate at the back fence in frustration! I've insisted DP pull a sickie tomorrow as he's just about to burn himself out and will be of no use to anyone let alone himself :(
Ok enough whinging from me - just needed to get that off my chest....
Koru - my dd has those pimples too. they can be for numerous reasons. My midwife pretty much just says its coz their skin is learning how to be skin. lol. DD2 has had them for about 2 - 3 weeks now and it gets worse with the heat. it will go away eventually. my dd1 and ds also had it. in most cases its nothing to worry about but if you are concerned, see your gp.
Hiya ladies,
Haven't been able to post much lately... the other day I got a whole post written up and the computer ate it - I was not impressed. My belly buddies have started having their babies  it is so exciting but mixed emotions for me... Caitlin's EDD was yesterday and it was a weird day for me... I am so happy she is here but was sort of mourning what could have been if that makes sense.
Will come back tomorrow to do persies. I have my 6 week check up tomorrow!! Hoping to DTD tonight... such planning!! One of my belly buddies mentioned that she likes to DTD before the check up so if there is any pain she can raise it with the doctor... I thought it was a good idea... lets hope DD settles!
Ok - more from me tomorrow!
Hi all! how is everyone going?
Misty- thanks for the heads up on the 6 weeks mark, Chloe has been quite whingy lately so that explains it...
Salboo- you poor thing, mastitis is terrible! try putting heat packs on your boobs and then feeding after that, i found that helped!
Koru- i think the little pimples are normal, most of my friends babies and chloe got them. they seemed to last about 2-3 weeks and as megan said the get redder with heat and after a feed. my dr said its a build up of hormones and they will just go on their own. And as for your husband working all the time...i hear you! mine took overtime (extra money does help though!) so i feel i havent seen him all week. rang him in tears the other day saying how hard it is being on my own with a screaming baby...afterwards i felt really bad though, he is only trying to do the right thing for his family!
Rhia- how did the infacol go? i tried it with no luck but not sure if maybe you need to use it for a while before it works?
Saffi- hows immis reflux? my dr said the same thing about it being typical for a 6 wk old bub. i was told to just ride it out but i think ill go see my regular dr for a 2nd opinion...i cant stand watching her in pain
Cass- did you get a swing? we rushed out and got one for Chloe when she was having a really bad bout of colic/reflux....love it! the only bad part is the crappy music they play, drives me insane! :wall:
Tk- goodluck for your 6 wk checkup!
AFU i have had a pretty crap week so hoping this one will be better! :crossfingers:
i think chloe may now have reflux, rushed her to the drs the other day as she vomited 5 times in a row (which is not like her) and got told it is common at her age and to see if it continues! so pretty much, put up with it! im going to see another dr for a 2nd opinion.
i have been feeling very overwhelmed this past week, dont get me wrong im absolutely loving motherhood and wouldn't change it for the world, but am finding it difficult watching her in pain and not being able to do anything. Hoping she grows out of it soon!
on a happier note, we got our first smile the other day! :confetti: sooooo excited!
well thats it for me....hope you and your bubs are all happy and healthy! will post again soon!
Hi everyone.
DS1 is being a nightmare lately, very sooky (screaming and crying really) and clingy and stuff. DH took him to the drs yesterday just to check he didn't have an ear infection or anything - he doesn't, so I am not sure why he is so sooky. Altough I can hear him coughing atm, so maybe he is just starting to come down with something. It is so hard when he doesn't talk or communicate very well.
I have started back at Weight watchers - I need to loose 27kg to get back to my goal weight
And Baz is all snuffly. I don't think he is actually sick, but he has stuffed up nose, so he has trouble breathing, which means he didn't sleep very well last night. I will have to pull out the ventilator tonight.
Grrr I hope we aren't all going to get sick. Although as bad as this will sound - If the kids are getting sick, I just hope I don't. I don't mind looking after sick kids, But I Hate looking after kids when I and sick.
Koru - Huggs, It is a tough gig being a parent sometimes - Having had my firstborn be a miserble baby, you have all my sympathies and my assurances that it does get better.
Typing one handed so this might take a while LOL
Larne - Immi is pretty much the same, crying whenever she's not being held, sleeping only brief periods during the day and especially when she is being held upright in the carrier.
koru - pimples here as well. I was hoping to have some professional photos done so have to wait until her skin clears a bit.
misty - Immi is snuffly as well. The paed said that is normal as well. She has now developed a cough and a bit of a runny nose so looks like she may have a cold.
Been thinking about joining WW too. I'm a lifetime member and have all the books but I find I need the meetings to keep me motivated.
Maybe DS1 is jealous about Baz. My DS is nearly 2 so we are getting major tantrums here, some of it I suspect is because of Immi.
salboo - hope you feel better soon.
tk - hows Caitlyn doing? Given what you've been through it would be easy to think "what if".
Rhia - I hate it when they just cry and cry. Learning to self soothe is good. Immi hasn't learnt yet.
Hi to anyone I've missed.
AFU - things are okay, seem to be going through the same things as everyone else. Finding it difficult to get everything I need to do done, but we'll get there.
She's asleep on my chest so thinking I might try to put her in her cot. Fingers crossed she stays asleep.
koru- Yeah Daniel has them still. They arent as bad as they started off with, but they do get redder in the heat as MeganH said. He has had them for about 3weeks and Im not concerned about them, but they have spread down his neck, shoulders and arms.
larne- not really sure on the infacol! It may just be him being really unsettled, he can burp on his own but he is still vomiting, which I guess is perfectly normal. Not much help am I!
misty- Oh I really hope your little ones arent getting sick, and best of luck with the weight watches :)
tk- Ive also got my 6 weeks checkup tomorrow. Me and DP have already tried DTD, tried at 3 weeks!! I was curious and we've tried again a few times after. Its really not very comfortable atm, I think its because Im still a bit scared! (tmi sorry lol) On another note, it means Daniel will be getting his needles and Im also going to ask for the whooping cough vacc shot for me.
Well other than that not much else has happened. Daniel is still being a whingy baby, but thats ok. It stresses me out because I feel helpless but I have a great support network here so yay!
Hiya - thanks everyone for he responses on pimples - seems its another one of those completely normal things that no-one warns you about!
DP had the day off yesterday and we're all better off for it - Orla even slept for a 4.5 hour stretch last night and went straight back to sleep after feeding :)
Does anyone know when babies stop doing the startling thing? Orla hates being wrapped but it really does help her sleep better. I'm compromising with leaving one hand out for her to suck at the mo....
koru - not sure when the startle reflex goes but I know I was wrapping DS until he was about 4 months old and he was too big for the wraps we had. I wrap Immi in the angel style (with both her arms upwards and her hands covered but next to her face).
Went to a feeding clinic yesterday as Immi and I have BF attachment issues. It was really useful as it showed me that she most likely doesn't have reflux and that the reason for her distress a lot of the time is that she is hungry or is overtired. Given that my supply is cr@p and she feeds and settles better with the formula we have decided to wean. Bit disappointed that we couldn't establish a good BF relationship but in the end it is causing both of us stress struggling to keep BF.
Immi has a bit of a cough at the moment. It was only a matter of time before she caught something (DS is at daycare so brings home heaps of germs...).
BBL
Oh Saffi that's such a bummer the BF didn't work out - wish I could send you some of mine - still got too much. Have to drain some off before I feed Orla or she chokes on it - even then she sends a lot of it back up!
But it sounds like you gave it your best shot - esp visiting the bf clinic. Hopefully now she'll be more settled and it's good that its not reflux - such a horrible condition to have :(
CM - That is fantastic weight gain!
Saffi - glad that the clinic helped, sorry that BF didn't work but you gave it your best shot and that is all we can ask of ourselves.
Ellee - have DD's poos settled down?
Cass - congrats on your studies. I am hoping to go back to uni first semester 2010... I took this year off because I had horrid pregnancy sickness at night when I was supposed to be in classes... I spent more time out in the bathrooms being sick! re meds stopped working. How did you go at the paed?
Misty - sounds busy in your house! Thank you for mentioning the six week unsettled period. I thought I was going slightly insane (am first time mum) but when I read your post I felt very relieved! Makes it easier to get through the day to know that it is somewhat normal!
Larne - congratulations! I am also a first time mum. Watching your bub in pain is the worst... did you see another dr? Is it reflux?
MeganH - hope the infants friend is still doing the trick.
RhiaMaree - DD whinges/crys in her sleep sometimes too... often it is followed by a fart so I have put it down to her getting the wind out.
Salboo - hope you are better and the mastitis has passed.
Koru - I got a bit of cabin fever too... I called up one of the mum friend's I made whilst DD was in SCN and we went out for the day - turns out she had cabin fever too... hope DP being home made all the difference for you
AFM - well we tried to DTD before the checkup (not scheduled for a particular night lol though it does sound like it sometimes!) but it was a fizzer. DD cracked it and needed to be settled - turned out to be a bad bout of wind. Had my 6 week check up on Monday - all is good, I have healed nicely (only had a few grazes anyway) and liver etc is all good. We talked about PE and he confirmed what I knew... that is is common in first pregnancies but may reappear in any subsequent pregnancies and there is no way to say that if it doesn't happen in a 2nd pg it could happen in a 3rd etc. I am at higher risk of GD and need to keep up checks for diabetes with my GP. Other than that all is good. He did an internal which was way uncomfortable but gave me greater faith for DP and I to try DTD again sometime in the future... if I can survive the internal I can survive DTD without too much pain (hopefully!)
What is everyone using for contraception (if you don't mind sharing the info) My Obs has prescribed the mini pill because I can take it whilst breastfeeding... I am not taking it at the moment because we aren't sure that it what we want to use (I have PCOS and in the past the pill hasn't agreed with me, we used Implanon and I know I don't want to use that) for the moment we have just been abstenent but that can't last forever and the PCOS means I can't track my cycles to avoid DTD around ovulation as my cycles are too unpredictable.
Ok DD has just messed so... duty calls! Big hellos to you all and hugs for bubs
tk - well done posting. That was a big one ;-) regarding contraception, DH has just got the snip but it apparently doenst come into full effect for about 40 ejaculations so atm we are using condoms. Mind you we have only DTD once since Emily was born.
Saffi - too bad bout the bfing but it will be much less stressful for you both now anyway. Theres always the next bub to try again ;-)
afm - Going back to the gym next week YAY! Im really looking forward to it but nervous at the same time. Emily will be going into the creche so it will be the first time someone else has looked after her. I hope she is good for them. I will just make sure she has had a feed before I put her in. My goal is to run the full 12k in the city to bay fun run next year (and lose weight in the process with the training, got about 20kg to lose) and I want to help raise money for CARES-SA (Caesarean Awareness Recovery Education Support SA) and group I am involved in that more people should know about. Especially those who have had a c-section.
Emily seems to be getting a bit better, she is still a bit restless during the day but most nights are ok now and I have been getting about 7 hours of broken sleep which I can cope with. I do have some good days though but most are spent holding her and feeding her and trying to settle her. I have pretty much given up on the infants friend, was a pain and I didnt find it made a lot of difference.
Anyway Emily has just woken again so gotta go.
Bye for now.
Larne- Isn't that first smile just wonderful, makes all that sleep deprivation worth it!
Misty- Hope you and the kids haven't become sick, GL with Weight Watchers.
Koru- Max has those pimples too, I was concerned and asked the health nurse who said they'll have disappeared by around 8 weeks. I don't wrap/swaddle Max, he hates it so much. it is more the passing of wind in his sleep which wakes him!
Saffi- Sorry to hear Bf didn't work, but the best thing is a happy baby and a happy mummy, so you've made the right choice.
Tk1999- Hadn't considered contraception, Can you still get pregnant if you're not menstruating?
MeganH, I'm really glad to hear Emily is sleeping a bit better for you. Max often goes from morning to night with only the odd cat nap (less than 30 mins) which is so frustrating when there are things that need to be done. But then on some days ( GREAT days) he may have 3 x 3hr sleeps. So unpredictable still!
Anyway, I'm starting to feel alot better with this mastitis, antibiotics are working and breast is alot less sore.
Hi to everyone else.
Megan - it was a big post... I should have stayed on top of my replies and not let it get out of control LOL. Thank you for sharing re your contraception. I didn't know that snips weren't effective straight away. GL back at the gym. Wow, that sounds like a great goal - I could never do a run like that!
Salboo - technically you can't fall pg but with the pill etc you need to take it for a period so it takes effect and prevents pg... but I am reluctant to take it as I get lots of side effects... well I did when I used to take it before switching to the Implanon. Glad that the mastitis is under control and the ABs are working.
Oh, I forgot to mention before that DDs weight was 3450 last Thursday... that is more than a kilo gained since birth! We go to clinic again tomorrow and she is having her needles tomorrow afternoon (is everyone being recommended to have the 8 week needles at 6 weeks??)
Heather - no more babies here since I now have one of each. If there was a third "flavour" I might have gone again. Besides I will be in my fifties before my current kids leave high school and most likely be in my 60s before they leave home LOL.
Hi all - thanks tk for opening up the contraception discussion. I have pcos too and have been thinking about the mini pill - biggest nuisance is that it has to be taken at pretty much exactly the same time each day which is a big ask with an unpredictable newborn and my tendency to loose track of time during the day! Despite a few attempts we've not managed to DTD yet - always interrupted :( DP is about to go round the bend I reckon!
I hadn't heard anyone pushing 8 week vaccinations at 6 weeks - that's soooo irresponsible! I used to work for one of the vaccine companies - unless they've done new studies to show equivalent safety and efficacy at a younger age (which they may have done since I stopped working there 5 years ago so I may be getting hot under the collar for nothing!), vaccinations should not be given any younger than recommen.ded by the manufacturer (giving later as 'catch up' is a different story). I sincerely hope it's not just a convenience thing so they can get is all over and done with at your 6 week appt.
Good on you Megan for hitting the gym again :) I'm keen to get back into yoga - maybe after my 6 week check up.....it's just across the road and there's a sunday morning class so DP can mind Orla
Yesterday it looked like Orla's pimples were on thier way out but now he's sprouted a new crop on top of the old ones :( I think I'm so distressed about them cos I had a pizza-face as a teenager and suffered much angst as a result - have to remind myself that she is oblivious to them!
Hi all,
Busy, Busy.
I have a sore throat and don't feel 100% - but not not too bad, just hope I don't get worse.
I have my six week check up on sat morning. I plan on asking the dr about the different contraception choices - It has been so long since I have seriously had to consider contraception - Iam not sure what is available. The mini pill isn't 100% reliable, and Implannon makes me gain weight - Unless they have other better options I might just go with condoms.
Wow - you girls DTD already. after my first two DH had to weight 6mths (not kidding - bad 3rd degree tearing the first time, and I was just plain petrified the second). Iam waiting to see what the dr says at my six week check up before I contemplate DTD, but It will definitely not be after the six month mark this time.
koru - I also have an oversupply problem, which make for a very perky baby (which of course means he gets hungry again quickly, and thus my supply stays increased. He takes three minutes to feed and will only feed from one side. I expressed some to see how much milk he was getting - I got 200mls in five minutes from one breast. Oh well, definitely worse problems I could have. Truth is Baz is a very placid baby, who hardly cries at all.
hope everyone it well. I have weigh in at WW tonight, I will let you all know how I go tomorrow. Hopefully I lost some weight.
Misty - wow 200mls in 5 minutes. Even with the drugs I couldn't achieve that from both breasts. Do you use a pump when you express?
Hi all - just popping in to correct my earlier post - the infant vaccines are now ok'ed for use from 6 weeks not 8 - I was wrong! Please accept my apologies (especially to tk) for my 'passionate' response - I'll go back in my box now.........
Hi All, I've been MIA the last week - it has definately been a big one, more on that later.
Saffi - sorry to hear that BF didn't work as you hoped but as the other ladies have said, happy baby and happy mummy are the most important. It was fantastic that you didn't give up easily and at least bubs got the liquid gold at the start!
Koru - hope you are having a better week. I totally understand the motion and it can be soo frustrating when you can't even go to the toilet without them crying. As for Zahli's name, I have no idea where it is from and I had never heard it before but since we announced her arrival a couple of people have said they'd heard of it.
Larne - How did you go with the 2nd opinion? Just remember that there is a lot to be said for mothers intuition. I hope that you get some answers or it is a passing phase that heads on its merry way soon.
Misty - Thanks for letting us know about the 6 wk unsettled period! 200ml WOW that's great supply. Hope you are feeling better.
TK - Hope you got to DTD  I'm hoping to attempt it over the weekend.
Megan - good work on the gym, I can't wait to get back into some proper exercise and look forward to the pool opening on the weekend (I think).
Salboo - glad to hear the mastitus is getting better. Technically I don't think you can get pregnant if not menstrating but remember that by the time you menstrate it was 2wks earlier when you were fertile, so perhaps condoms is the best method if don't want to use the mini pill.
Well DD is becoming unsettled so sorry to those I've missed personals on. DD's poos have settled from what they were but still getting quite a few mucousy ones and also some green ones. The pead said she could have an alergy to something I'm eating so will do some research and perhaps try an elimination diet. They also diagnosed her with reflux and had her first dose of medicine last night, I'm hoping it's not coincidence but she slept for 9hrs! I didn't though kept waking worring if she was ok. She cracked the 4kg weighing 4.06kg (it was just after a feed and fully clothed but I'm still claiming it lol).
Hope everyone is doing well and babies have been happy. xx
Koru - no need to apologise, but thank you for doing so  and come out from that box please! I had checked with the nurses and done my own research before deciding to get the vaccinations at the now recommended 6 weeks rather than wait until the normal 8 weeks. I haven't filled the prescription for the mini pill yet. After speaking with a new ECHN today I am still looking into some other options and until then will continue to be abstinent . Hope Orla's pimples clear soon
Misty - hope you feel better soon  doesn't sound fun at all. I am the same with Implanon but another reason I don't want it is I already have 3 scars from the other Implanons I have (one to insert the first rod... one to remove the first and insert the second and the final scar to remove the second rod) so I don't really want more scars on my arm. We haven't actually DTD... tried but didn't get very far and then DD woke up and yeah an hour later DD was settled and DP was sound asleep . I also have a bit of an oversupply issue... not sure if it is oversupply or just a really good supply but if DD comes off then I either end up with a wet lap or it is squirted across the room! DD is able to drain me so she gets both the fore and after milk but only feeds from one side so by the next feed the side that she will suckle from is VERY full. Hope you went well at WW.
Ellee - no we didn't get to the DTD... maybe over the weekend :fingerscrossed: hope the meds work for her reflux and  for weight gain!
AFM - DD was weighed today - she is now 3350grams  in the last fortnight she put on 690grams which the nurse was very happy with. DD went well with the needles... bit of a cry and bit of bleeding and mummy didn't even cry (but I did feel like it :() she is currently a bit unsettled but I am putting her on the boob to comfort her and singing to her (my singing is probably doing more harm than good!)
Hope you are all well!
Dammit, I thought I had time to do full persie because Emma was asleep, but then I heard a waaah! LOL So I'll do the best I can with a bub in arms....sorry for being MIA but have been really busy with my 2.
tk - Yay for the weight gain  that is super! You must be so happy. Oh and I'm glad to hear the parrot is coping OK ;) BTW, my ECN said that they were recommending the needles at 6 weeks because there has been heaps of whooping cough about this year. We had ours this week too, I saw a story on TV about it a few weeks ago (didn't watch on purpose, it just happened to be on) and the little babies they showed that were coughing with WC just break your heart :( It was awful to watch.
Ellee - Hope you can find a reason behind the funny poos ana yay for the weight gain.
misty - GL with the weigh in and 6 weeks check. I'm so glad i don;t need to worry about contraception! LOL
koru - We've had the pimples too, as well as heat rash. It gets better on the cooler days but as soon as we have another hot one it all comes back  Its on her face, arms, upper back and chest so quite extensive - doesn't seem to worry her though!
salboo - Glad you are feeling better
MeganH - Have fun at the gym!
Hi to everyone else I've missed, hope you and bubs are doing well.
As for us, 6 week check this week went well. Emma now weighs 4.52kg, up from 3.58 last weigh about 4 weeks ago and her length has gone from 46cm when she was born to 54.5cm  so feeling pretty happy about that. Still having some spectacular vomits though  and a little unsettled some nights but not too bad really. DD1 was a real screamer as a bub, so compared to her Emma is great. Although she did scream down the drs surgery the other day after her needles :( and I had my WC booster shot and my arm is still sore!
hello everyone,
I am definitely sick. DH took the day off work today to look after the kids for me so that I can sleep - I just got out of bed then so he could take the two older kids and get us all lunch. The house is so quiet with just me and a now sleeping baby.
Well I went to weigh in last night. I shouldn't have bothered, I was actually 400g heavier! I forgot to feed Baz before I weighed in, so I had very full and heavy breasts. Oh well, next week I should have a good loss if I feed before hand. On my scales at home I have lost a little.
Saffi - yes I use a little Nuk electric breast pump. I think my body is jut used to producing large amounts of milk now. I have been breastfeedin or pg for the last 4yrs. I only stopped b/f my DS1 when I was 2 months pg this time. With my first it took quite a while to build up a good supply, and I had to give her quite a few comp formula feeds, because I didn't have enough milk for her in the first 2-3 months.
I know alot of people are very passionate about b/f and love doing it etc, but to tell you the truth, the only reason I do it is because it is so much cheaper and (for me) easier to just stick a boob in then to prepare a bottle when they are little. I think everyone should just do what works best for them and their baby and stuff what everyone else believes you should be doing.
In regards to the needles, DH booked m 6wk appointment for me and they asked if he would like bubs to get needles then as well, but DH didn't know if it would be alright to get them 2 wks earlier or not, so he told them 'no'. So we are going to have to book him in for his shots at the eight week mark.
I am really interested to know how heavy DS2 is now. I know it is well over 5kg (he wa 4.7kg at 2.5weeks and has grown alot since then), but not sure how much. He is so big compared to other baby the same age.
LOL it has taken me 20mins to type this post! I am getting distracted by dr Phil.
Hi everyone,
Just popping in to let you all know how my 6 week check up went. DS2 now weighs 6.1kg and is 60cm long. He is in the 97 percentile. I knew I wasn't exagerating about he's size :D He is the size of an 'average' 3.5month old.
AFM - Sorry if TMI. I do have a prolapse, the dr didn't seem to think it was as bad as I had imgined it, so maybe all those pelvic floor exercises are doing something to help after all. having said that, because she has to check when I am laying down, it is possible that it 'falls back in' a bit (for lack of a better description). Anyway, because it doesn't actually 'bother' me atm, I was told I should wait and see how it goes in terms of comfort (and continue my pelvic floor exercises) before we discuss any treatments for it - which they only real treatment is surgery.
As for contraception, I have been given a script for the mini pill. Implannon, was suggested as an alternative, however I have used that 2times in the past and both times have gained significant weight very quickly. Not a good idea when I am now trying to loose weight. I am not sure if I am happy to rely on the mini pill though - I don't think my body could handle another pg too soon, and DH might have a heartattack. But the only other option seems to be condoms??? Or abstinance i guess, but I don't think Dh would be too thrilled with that. ;)
Hey everyone..Sorry for being MIA it's been hectic around here, no sooner do i put miss E down she is screaming again! I'm ready to pull my hair out and I swear i am never having sex again! we went to the pead and she is on different medication now on 1ml of Zantac morning and night, which seems to be helping her more, but she's still quite an unsettled baby and only I can settle her. I'm not saying that to sound special either, but seriously when she starts she won't stop until she it back in my arms. Poor DF feels a little dejected and I feel very tired and worn out...
And i was just about to do personals but Eloise has woken up again, the older kids are screaming and DF is trying to sleep because he has to go back to a night shift tonight (after orking the morning shift today) sorry!
My love to you all, hope your all okay!
Hey girls, how is everyone?
Things here have settled down a bit here so hopefully have time to do a full post!
Cass- how are you and miss E going...you poor thing, sounds like its been a bit rough lately! Chloe has also been put on Zantac, which seems to be helping. How have you found it?
Misty- bravo on going back to WW...hope the weight loss is going well! I really need to get myself into action, just trying to find the energy!
Meg- congrats on emmas weight gain! As for her vomiting, i can sympathise, chloe has started to do the same, we went through 4 suits the other day!
Tk- congrats also to you on weight gain and not crying during immunisation, we are due soon!
Ellee- we did get a secong opinion and put chloe on zantac which seems to have helped! i have heard that green poo can be related to wind...not sure of the truth in that or if its an old wivestale!
Koru- have the pimples gone?
Saffi- sorry to hear about bf issues! i bottle feed chloe ebm as she had attachment issues since birth, it is dissapointing but you are doing the right thing, you need to do whatever will make you and your baby happy!
Salboo- im so glad your mastitis is better!
Megan- well done for hitting the gym....hope the weightloss is going well!
AFU, Chloe is now on meds for reflux and seems to be doing well. got a checkup on tuesday, so hopefully will get a good weightgain. As for me, i went to the dr and got a script for the mini pill, as for DTD...not yet! had plans for the other night and DH fell asleep! LOL! oh well!
Hope i covered everyone...got to run as Chloe is ready for her dinner!
Take care, will post again soon!
Hi everyone
Nothing much happening here. Spent the whole day out shopping which strangely is easier to do with a newborn than it is with a toddler. I was desparate to get some normal clothes. Bought a few things which has made me feel better. Immi was pretty well behaved. When she was upset she settled when I put her in the carrier. Did make it difficult to try clothes on tho!
Haven't started weaning yet. I BF as much and often as I can during the day and give her formula usually about lunchtime, dinner and maybe before I go to bed (if she hasn't settled for the night beforehand). I'll see if I can maintain this routine.
Larne - hopefully now that she is on the medication she will be a lot more settled for you.
Cass - its a blessing and a curse that Eloise only wants her mum, isn't it. It must be hard looking after the bigger kids with a newborn at home. I really admire you. You are doing a great job!
Misty - sorry to hear you have a prolapse. I reckon young women aren't encouraged enough to do their PF exercises. Its only when you become pregnant and have a baby do you realise how important they are. Anyway, I hope it gets better for you.
Meg - great weight gain. Immi is also 4.5kg. We are booked in next week for her vaccinations. I'm also having the whopping cough booster.
tk - fantastic weight gain!
Ellee - have you been doing the elimination diet?
Saw the OB today for probably the last time. Got the mini pill script too. My tummy muscles still have a slight separation but he seemed happy with how it is healing.
Hi girls,
Not even going to attempt personals this time around - sooo much to catch up on!!
DH going back to work was not as good as I thought it would be lol. Have been able to start establishing a routine but his roster is 2 days & 2 nights, 12 hour shifts. This means I'm basically on my own the night before the first day shift until the day after his last night shift. For example this week I'm on my own Friday night til Thursday morning!! It sounds bad when I put it that way but he gets 5-6 days off before starting the next rotation. It's just hard having no help for so many hours, by the time DH is home in the evening (after 8pm) Peter is asleep.
Sorry for the whinge but I really feel it on his last night shift. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed!!
On a more positive note Peter has been only waking once overnight for a feed the last few nights!! Has a nice chunk of 6 hours b/w a feed. Off to the hip clinic at the hospital tomorrow to check out his clicky hips, hopefully all is well.
Hope everyone is having an okay week.
