Hey everyone,
Before I launch into another 'me post' I will formerly apologise for being such a slacker when it comes to personals :( I really do read all your posts!
Cheezel I totally understand how exhausted you must feel doing such long stints on your own. I don't have it so bad as you but when DP teaches at uni two nights a week I'm at the end of my tether by 8-9pm when he gets home :( Then I feel bad cos he loves teaching and we really need the extra bucks!
Larne - yes the pimples are finally on their way out (fingers crossed!)
I'm impressed how many babies in this and the other August Babies thread go to sleep around 8pm and so many who only wake once for a feed. Orla rarely settles before 10.30 (sometimes midnight! grrrrr!) but then will sleep to 7am ish with a couple of 'feed breaks'. I really don't mind waking to feed her - practically do it in my sleep as she's in bed with us anyway but I'd love her to drop off earlier in the evening so DP and I could get some time together and not have eat dinner in shifts! Oh well it's early days yet....
Today is my 6 week check with my GP. I'm pretty sure what I want to do on the contraception front (will give the mini pill a whirl and see how we go with that) but vaccinations are doing my head in! I really wanted to delay any til after 6 months but this whooping cough outbreak has thrown a monkey wrench in my carefully researched plans. If it came a single shot it'd be a no-brainer but the triple vax is the smallest combo it comes as - or we could go the whole hog with the 6-in-one (which I'm loathe to do). Does anyone know if you opt for the 3-in-one combo over the 6-in-one that is on the national schedule whether you still get it for free or cos you've deviated from protocol you have to pay for it yourself?

Hi All,
Just a quick one, sorry no personals today. Been to the Gym every day so far this week and about to leave to go again this morning. Im not feeling 100%, but Im not gunna let that stop me, just tomorrow to go then I have the weekend to get over it. Just been taking it easy and going on the treadmill. Dont wanna go too full on so soon after having the c-section.
Emily is going really well. She usually goes down to sleep around 8:30pm then its been getting longer and longer before she wakes for her next feed. This morning she didnt wake til 3am, then she usually goes down pretty much straight away, although last night she had a bit of wind so it took her longer to go to sleep but she didn't cry and settled herself after about half an hour or so of grunting LOL. She then wakes up for the day around 7:30 - 8am, so I am getting enough sleep which makes everything else so much easy to deal with. Pimples are pretty much gone, although when she gets hot a few show up around her neck. She usually has one more decent sleep during the day and Im trying to get her to do that while I'm at the gym so I can get at least 45 minutes of excercise. The rest of the day can sometimes be a little unsettled but she has periods where she is awake but quite happy to lay on the floor or in her rocker.
BFing is going great, its much easier than bottlefeeding, my only complaint is that I pretty much always have to have her with me and cant really go out for a few hours on my own. I have however expressed enough for about two feeds over a period of time and have it in the freezer just in case.
Ok gotta go, she's had enough of the rocker, will post again soon.

just a quick hello,
Baz is growing way too quickly. sigh. I have been putting off moving him from 000 clothes to 00, but he was starting to look a little rediculous. So today DH put him in a 00 jumpsuit - it only just fits.
I don't want him to grow up. :(
-
Misty - el is out of her 000 clothes tooo :(
Megan - glad to here eveything is going well, take care
koru - hi
cheezel monster - hugs
Saffi HI
larnie hi
(i'm not doing too well at the personals! sorry!_
Sorry that was a really slack attempt at personals... A bit tired here... Eloise is having her good and her bad days, the zantac seems to be helping sometimes. she still sleeps well at night, which is great, usually going down at 8 and getting up between 2 to 3 times from 8pm to 7am.
Although i am finding it difficult her only wanting me, literally her every waking moment has got to have me in the picture, she wont go to anyone... and DF isn't helping AT ALL he just says oh well she doesnt want me and hands her back to me...
Why is it if a baby cries its automatically hunni she needs feeding! Grrr im so over it!
sorry for the vent! i better get off, eloise needs a feed, then ill head off to bed again ... night all...
-
cas blob - Huggs. It can be hard when your bubs is like that. I hope things get easier for you.
Everyone else - Hello, I take it you are all busy with your babies. Hope everything is going well.
AFM - It is amazing how so much and so little can happen at once. Sebastian is such an easy baby, nothing to complain about there :)
We spent $600 on getting a digital TV box on the weekend  I told DH he could get one, meaning a cheap $100 box - but of course there are so many reasons why we need a bigger more expensive on and "we saved a fortune 'cause the one we bought is usually much more expensive".
And a week and a half ago my FIL was told his cancer was terminal and that there was no viable treatment option, so we have been very busy trying to sort some things out, like finances, housing, carers, etc.
-
Megsmum - it is so much harder to type with bubs in arms isn't it. I have had to put Caitlin into the sling many a time as she wakes up just as I think I have some time to do a big post! LOL yes the parrot is coping well. I didn't see that story but I have seen small bubs with WC before and yep it does break your heart. Hope Emma was ok with the needles. That is fantastic weight gain for your little one also!
Misty - hope you are better now. Hope your weight loss is going well. I haven't weighed myself since just after I came home from hospital - too scared LOL. I don't think I will have gained any but not sure about losses... clothes are fitting much much better now so I am happy to go with that (for now LOL). Your DS weighs pretty much close to double what my DD weighs. Sorry to hear that it is a prolapse. Wow into 00... DD is only in 0000 and that is only because she is too tall for the 00000! Sorry to hear about your FIL
Cass - hope the Zantac is working well and you have been able to get some rest. Another one out of 000, I know it is because Caitlin is premmie that is smaller but I look at 000 and wonder if she will ever fit into them. I also have those 'why only me' moments... it has its good and really crappy moments.
Larne - hope Chloe is doing well on the Zantac.
Saffi - yay for clothes shopping... that is one thing I haven't done yet... shopping for myself. I am in awe of you! Ouch for stomach muscles hope it heals quickly and well for you.
Cheezel - ouch that is a hard work pattern to work with!. How are Peter's hips?
Koru - not sure about the vaccinations - if you haven't got info yet, check out the threads on BB re immunisations. There are many women who have looked into the separate vaccinations etc.
Megan - congrats for going to gym each morning... that is a fantastic effort!
AFM - had Caitlin's hip US yesterday and they said all looked good - have to get the Paed to review the report but he is on leave until mid October, so I couldn't get him to check her umbilicial hernia either. Have made an appointment for 20 Oct to pick up the US (left it there for him to review when he is back) and to have the umbilicial hernia checked. DP wants me to also get it checked by the GP until we see the Paed so will go to see GP when he is next on (have to ring to check when). Also  I started Caitlin in the cloth nappies today . I finally worked up the courage to start them and she also fits into the NB covers now (finally). We had a shocker night with nappy rash - I had put Curash cream on during the day and it made the nappy rash worse... there were only a few spots so I put the cream on to get rid of it but it seems the rash spread to anywhere I put the cream so I then put moo goo on but the rash was beyond moo goo's ability to help.
I was going to put sudocream on but couldn't find the container and then a few of my fb friends advised to use bepanthen so DP went out to get some and ta dah this morning it is pretty much all gone!! The rash was causing her some discomfort when she wee'd so we were doing lots of nappy changes over night.
Today I am in a so so mood as yesterday was really hard with Caitlin being really unsettled so today I put her cloth nappies on and it has cheered me up somewhat
Hope you are all well - Caitlin will be weighed again tomorrow
-
Hey everyone
Can't believe that my little girl is 2 months old. We went to the Drs on Monday to get her vax but as she has a nasty cough at the moment he didn't want to vaccinate her. We'll go back in a couple of weeks when she is a little better. In the meantimeI got the whopping cough booster. Has anyone else had it?
Cass - I hear ya! DH is the same, anytime Immi is unsettled its she needs food.
tk - glad that you found something for C's nappy rash. We have always used sudocreme and its always cleared really quickly. I've never used cloth nappies but I've been told that some people use cloth during the day and disposables at night. Good news about C's ultrasound.
Misty - your DH sounds like mine. We have so many remote controls for all the entertainment equipment. DH is now talking about upgrading our Foxtel box to an IQ. Oh well, its his hobby. Sorry about your FIL.
Megan - yay for you exercising. I really should do something.
Cheezel - how'd the scan go?
Hello to everyone else.
Does anyone else have a baby that doesn't sleep much during the day? Immi doesn't have any long sleeps during the day, maybe half an hour or so in the swing or the carrier, tho she did sleep on my chest today for a couple of hours. Over the last few nights she has been going to bed for the night at 11pm. We are then up at around 3am for around 90mins. We are then up between 6.30 - 7am.
I have been trying to catch her tired signs but she doesn't seem to do many. Anyway, we have put her down (9pm) so we'll see how long she sleeps for.
Probably should go to bed myself. Night all!
-
Hi girls,
OMG I am so bad at personals lately!!
Peter's hips are fine - has another check at 6 months. He was weighed today, is now 5.8kgs so doing well there. Think he'll be tall like his dad as he's already grown 5cms since birth!! Is that normal??
Geez this is the latest I've stayed up for a long time. My sister is in labour & I'm waiting for news. Plus Peter has decided he doesn't want to sleep tonight & is laying in his basinette talking to himself lol. I really can't be bothered resettling him AGAIN...but I will. Picture me trudging up the hallway
-
Hi all, thought I'd pop in and say hello. I know I don't post often but I do pop in and keep up with how everyone is going, I just don't have time to sit and do personals so feel a bit slack for posting at all!
Saffi - Sorry to hear you're having issues with Immi sleeping, there is nothing worse! DS2 is a breeze compared to DS1 at this age so we're doing OK. He generally does one big sleep of about 3 hours in the middle of the day which is his best sleep. His morning sleep can be a bit hit and miss, anything from 1.5-2 hours (but often he needs to be resettled and if he's not back asleep at the 1.5 hour mark I get him up). His afternoon sleep was horrid, I was lucky to get an hour out of him but that seems to be improving. Because he doesn't sleep long in the late afternoon, I give him a bath around 5pm and he's in bed for the night by about 6pm. Not ideal but seems to be working for us for the moment. He then wakes any time between 11pm-1am and then again at about 3-5am. We are then up for the day at about 7-8am. His night fees are very quick, he sleeps and feeds in our room so I'm only usually up feeding him for around 15 mins (20 if he needs a nappy change etc).
If you can't pick Immi's tired signs, I'd start going by the clock. At this age babies can usually only handle an hour of awake time. So if you're not seeing tired signs at the one hour mark, I'd wrap her and put her down anyway. Most advice says that they shouldn't be awake for any more than 1.5 hours max, but we all know sometimes babies don't follow the rules! I hope things improve.
Pimples - ours got SOOOOOO bad that his skin started to get all red, inflamed and extremely dry. We took him for his vax about a week ago and the GP ended up giving us a mild cortisone cream for his face. Thankfully it has almost totally healed now. He does still have a tinge of redness and a few spots on his cheeks but nothing compared to what it was. I wanted to avoid cortisone but I was getting concerned about scarring - my niece has scars from her milk pimples as a baby.
We've had some not so great news from our u/sounds though :(. His hip looks OK at this stage but his head u/sound wasn't great. He appears to have extra fluid around his brain and they also saw a cyst :( His paed assures us that the cyst is a very common thing in babies and there's nothing we need to do about that. The fluid is a bit more of a worry and we need to monitor his head growth. We have an appt at the Children's Hospital in a few weeks to repeat the scans. Praying SOOOO hard that things have improved.
He is feeding well and sleeping reasonably well most of the time. He is self settling 95% of the time but needs to be resettled during the day sometimes which does my head in a bit! LOL.
He is HUGE and last time we had him weighed was about 3 weeks ago - he was already 6.5kg!! I have no idea how long he is now but he seems quite long to me too. He looks like a 3 month old! We're still in our 000s though, probably not for much longer!
The issues we were having with reflux seem to have settled so we think it was caused by the medication he was on (abs for an infection). I really feel for those of you dealing with reflux, it was soooo hard that week or so that we had it so I admire you all for doing such a great job!
Better go, he needs to go back to bed now. Hope all are well...
-
Ok self indulgent post
I was feeling all pumped because I weighed in tonight and lost 1.7kg (over two weeks), so YaY!
I have just put Baz to sleep so should probably go to bed myself - I probably won't be so precious after I get some rest.
Edited: Feel much better this morning, so thought I should delete my winge ;)
-
Good Morning Everyone :)
I came on here about a week ago (time flies huh!! ??) and was really proud of myself writing my best contribution to the group with personals and it disappeared! I got a bit cranky as you all know how much of an effort it is to be able to do that. So here goes another attempt. Although DD is due to wake anytime.
Misty:  Great work on the weight gain! Sorry to hear about FIL. Thinking of you and your family. LOL re: set top box! 00 clothes, I have quite a few nice 00 outfits for DD that I can't wait for her to wear, but still in 0000 even some 00000.
Willow: Sorry to hear that DS is having a few hurdles at the moment. I can only imagine how worried you would be. But fingers crossed the next U/S shows some good news
Chezel Monster: Fantastic news about Peter's hips. As for the growth. Miss Z has grew 8cm in her first 8 wks. So I hope it is normal :p How did your sister go with the labour?
Saffi: Not good to hear about Immi's cough. Myself and DH both had the booster shot. Miss Z hardly sleeps at all through the day usually either. A few 20min cat naps is about it.
TK: Have you been to the GP about Caitlin's hernia? I have heard that bepanthen cream is good but obviously even better. Will have to keep it in mind, we've got some from DH getting his tattoo's. We use Paw Paw cream and it seems to work well for Miss Z. Good work on the Cloth, i've been thinking about getting a few and using them through the day and sposies at night. How was Caitlin's weigh in? Miss Z is still in 0000 and even some 00000. She only has a couple of cute outfits but I don't want to buy any more because I keep hoping she'll get to the 000/00 outfits I have for her soon. Someone told me I should cherish having a small baby because it feels like a newborn for longer. Positive way of looking at it I guess.
Cass_Blob: Hope you manage to get some "me" time soon. I'm probably having a brain fart but have you tried using a sling or carrier for Elouise to help you do some things with 2 hands?
Megan H: WTG with the Gym! I hear you on the grunting. It's like we've brought home a zoo of animals with Miss Z, her grunting and farting is amazing. Quite orchastral hahaa
Koru: How did you go with the vaccine research?
Larne: How did you go with Chloe's weight gain. Good to hear the meds seem to be working.
AFU: I took DD off her meds for 36hrs the other day to see how she went, I feel really mean but I just needed to know that it wasn't a passing phase that I'd hoped for. Yep they work and we're back on them. How do you other ladies give bubbas their meds? We have medicine form that we got in perth but won't be able to do that going forward.
Much like Koru and Cheezel Monster I'm frustrated with DH roster. He leaves for work at 5 and gets home at 630 he works 3 days followed by 3 nights which pretty much leaves me a single mum for 7 days straight. DD had her 8 week weigh in and was 4.2kg and 56cm long. You might have read my thread on Plagicephaly (flat spot) and the health nurses response that I wasn't happy with. Her forehead is starting to be affected and so going to take her to the GP but also trying to find a Paediatric Osteopath in Perth. I've heard that they have a lot of sucess with reflux also so would be worth the expense of getting to Perth to try. I went to a mothers group for new mums at a ladies house on Monday and it was really nice. I wen to the public Tiny Tots yesterday and it wasn't as good but worth keeping in mind if I want to get out of the house.
Had a fight with DH last night that left me feeling really quite deflated. DD has been really good the last couple of days and so he suddenly thinks that is what life is like all the time. He was really quite nasty and I couldn't believe it. He said "your mum did it with 3 kids and you can't even handle 1". Apparently there is no excuse not to have the house immaculate and dinner on the table for him. My "me" time is when he is at work - figure that out! Anyway he thinks I'm lazy cos all I have to do is feed Miss Z and wash her clothes. Now that I don't work full time he shouldn't have to help around the house as he works and needs his 6 days off for him. He is not comprehending financial changes either and continuing to spend selfishly including the $6000 bike he got and now that is a never ending pit requiring money. So our savings are going quickly and I can't bare the thought of putting Miss Z in childcare here especially after the stories I heard the other day from someone who worked there when they first got to town.
Anyway - Can't believe I got that off my chest to you girls, just wondering how you keep your house in order and have dinner ready cos I seem to be failing miserably some days.
Hope you're all well and enjoying the watching your babies grow up into little people xx
-
Ellee - Huggs. Your DH needs a reality check. My DH Works 9-6pm each weekday, but he still comes home from work and cooks dinner for the family and do the clothes washing and feeds the animals and kitty litter. (plus a whole lot more!) Now i know my DH is ALOT better then most, he really is great. BUT the expectations your DH has are just not realistic! Sorry I don't have a whole lot of practical advice to offer, I'm not really sure how you can 'fix' this - I have a very assertive (sometimes agressive) personality type and simply wouldn't tolerate that kind of attitude, but that doesn't help you in anyway. I hope someone else can offer you some good advice. Do a search of BB I know I have seen other threads around with similar problems, and one of those may contain some good advice.
Willow - It is great you are able to get your bubs to self-settle. If I am lucky I 'might' be able to put DS2 down in his bed IF I have already gotten him to sleep and held him for at least 20mins. More often he just sleeps being cuddled by me during the day or sleeping in bed with me at night. Probably not the best solution, but I am getting really good at doing everything one handed ;) and I am lucky my DD is a good 'helper'. Unfortunately it can cause problems with DS1 - Like right now I have to get up and put him in bed because he is pulling DD hair.
-
Hi everyone, i have been reading all your posts but slack as usual at posting!
DS2 had his shots the other day, poor little thing, they made him quite drowsy for the following two days, which was not all bad! He has put on 1.6 kg in the last two weeks and now weighs 5.7 kgs. He was only a small baby at birth so I'm happy with the rate he's putting on weight, at least I know he's feeding ok. i've fully recovered from my bout of mastitis, thank goodness, but do get a bit anxious if my boob hurts slightly, that it will come back!
Misty- I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL.On a positive note, Way To Go with your weight loss, i sure need need to get off my butt and do some excercise thats for sure, especially as beach season approaches and i have to put on a bathing suit...Eeeew!
Willow- Sorry to hear about your DS2 ultrasound results, at least the paed says there is nothing to worry.i know its hard not to worry though when there something wrong with your child .Sounds like a brilliant baby though, settling and sleeping well!!
Saffi- I too have a baby that does not sleep during the day!! The upside is he does sleep well at night! I'll put him down between 8 -9.30 of an evening and will usually sleep for 7 hours straight. Have a quick feed and sleep for another 4 hours give or take. I can't complain too much. At least he is not too upset about being awake during the day, usually only around dinner time of course he starts to hark up. I'm lucky if he has 2 hours sleep (catnaps mostly) throughout the day!
Ellee- House in order??, I don't think so. It's a good day when I've managed to do 1 load of washing, put dinner on the table and bath my older son. We all know how much time looking after a new baby takes up. It sounds like you are doing a great job and your DH needs to be alot more realistic in his expectations. I wouldn't be worrying about whether your house is immaculate, or beating yourself up for not having prepared dinner! Right now, just concentrate on caring for yor baby, but just as importantly , make sure you get some time for YOU, even if it's only half an hour a day.It makes a world of difference to your overall emotional wellbeing. When your DH has time off work, I'd be making sure he is helping you to achieve this. My DH was abit like yours, because he works long hours, he didn't see how hard it could be for me to accomplish something as simple as doing the vaccuming. It's not like we're just kicking back watching soap operas all day long and painting our nails! My DH has been alot more helpful since the arrival of DS2.He certainly knows better now than to ask a sleep starved woman "what have I been doing all day"?
Hi to everyone else i've missed.
-
Ellee - just wanted to echo what everyone else has said. Its tough for a first time Mum as you are still reconciling your old role as a wife and career girl with that of being a mum. Its different as you add more kids to the family as you have some idea of what you are in for and also has learned whats important and whats not.
You were after some tips. I'm by no means the perfect housewife (my DH does a lot of the housework), but I suggest that you invest in a slow cooker. You can put it on first thing in the morning and by dinner time you have a yummy meal. You can even cut up the veg etc the night before or when you have a spare minute (yeah right).
Anyway have to pick DS up from daycare. I'll be back later for more personals.
-
Wow, Im having troubles keeping up. This thread has been very busy. Im not very good with personals but I will give it a quick go.
Salboo - EMily has her shota the other day too. It was awful. First time ever for me out of all my kids that I have taken any of them to have it done. DH has always done it. Emily was starving hungry and the woman wouldnt let me feed her to make her happier. Glad the mastitis is all better and well done with the weight gain for DS2, he must be feeding well.
Ellee - Salboo said it perfectly. I dont know what else I could say. When I read her post it made me smile coz she explained it so well. I hardly sit down at all during the day. Im always busy yet I never seem to get anything done. Thats what its like when you have kiddies. As you have more you get the hang of it a bit but still never get what you want done. My DH comes home wondering what Ive done all day and stupidly sometimes he asks. But them I give him a blast and he ends up helping out.
Oh crap, I just noticed the time. I gotta go to bed. Told you Im bad at personals.
Just quickly though, all is good here. Emily is feeding well and sleeping well at night most of the time. I worked by butt off at the gym today and it felt great. I really hope I can stick to it. I have two goals, one obviously to lose weight and the other to jog the full 12km in the 2010 city to bay fun run we have here in Adelaide annually. Its a full 12 months away so I have plenty of time to train. Im hoping to raise money to go towards caesarean awareness.
Anyway, thats me for tonight. Will post again soon.
-
Hello everyone.
Baz is asleep at the moment, so I thought I would sy a quick 'hello'. We are getting his vacinations done this afternoon.
I am sssoooo tired, atm. I wish all three kids would have a sleep, at the SAME time. Baz just woke up, gott go.
-
Hiya,
I think I take the cake for crap personals! I had a nice little list on friday and was going to write a lovely long post and reply to everyone but alas Miss Milky had other ideas :(
Willow I hope you are getting some answers and help with your little one - it must be so distressing for you.
Ellee I second what everyone has said about the impression we must give that we've done bu88er-all all day. Maybe your DH needs a whole day/weekend of looking after your DD so gets a better idea of what goes on instead of the happy, clean, fed baby at the end of the day he sees now? (not sure how plausible that is....)
Good onya Megan for setting yourself a personal challenge :) I used to run the Puffing Billy race here in Melbourne (13k trying to beat a train thru the hills!) and was sad to have to forgo last year's race due to being pregnant. Will have to see if I can get myself in shape for next May.....
Hello and apologies for lack of persies to everyone else...
AFM, the advent of day light savings seemed to wreak havoc on Orla's body clock and we had a week of bad night sleeps (hence me being MIA) but she seems to have readjusted now (fingers crossed!). I had hoped to return to yoga on sunday but we were having such a lovely long sleep in (a rarity!) I was loathe to interupt it - oh well ,next week....
Still deliberating over vaccinations here as we also have to factor in having to pay for deviations from the schedule (omissions are much simpler). Wanting to vax her against whooping cough looks like it will mean giving her a heap of over vax I didn't want to give her at this point but it looks like we'll have to go down that road to prevent WC :(
-
Hi everyone
Misty - WTG on the weight loss.
Megan - I'm in awe of you training for the run.
Koru - I guess one advantage of living in Qld is we don't have daylight savings to disrupt baby's sleep. Still I'd prefer to have it as DS is waking at 5am when the sun comes up.
Willow - thanks for the long post. I am going to try going by time. I have put her down for a sleep now so hoping that it lasts for more than 10 minutes.
Hello to everyone else.
AFU - things are ticking along. I wasn't able to get Immi vaccinated last week cos the Dr wouldn't do it with her cough. I'll go back next week when she is hopefully better. I had the WC vax and my arm hurt for a few days afterwards so I can only imagine how the baby feels after all theirs.
I'm hobling around at the moment as I've hurt my back with lifting of babies and toddlers. I went to the physio this morning and am now all taped up, but able to move a lot easier. The physio wants me to BF standing up or lying down.
Anyway better take advantage of Immi being down and get some things done.
-
Just saying Hi to everyone! Not much to report, Max is sleeping pretty well during the night, just wish I was able to fall asleep as quickly as he can! He's getting chubbier and chubbier, he's now in 00 clothes well and truly. He loves to have a chat and laugh. He really is a happy baby.I'm very lucky.
Misty- Hope you're getting some rest, Don't know how you do it with three littlies...Megan as well....hats off to you both!
Koru- Thats funny what you said about Daylight savings, Max has actually slept better and been more settled since daylight savings. He actually goes off to bed happily around 8pm for the night. it could just be coincidence though.
Everyone must be really busy, as it seems a bit quiet in here lately. Hope everyone is well.
-
Hi everyone - I have been trying to write a big post for you all but my computer is hungry and keeps eating it.
DD was weighed last Thursday and she has broken the 4kg mark... she is now 4.350kg!! She is in 0000 clothes and having more days in cloth nappies. She doesn't really like tummy time but I make sure she has at least a few minutes each day... well until she cracks it and almost screams the house down!
I have been reading and your bubbas are all doing so well... congrats mummas! You are all doing fantastic jobs
Re housework... it has been the topic of many an argument between DP and I. We spent a sunday at home um last week or so (can't remember which sunday it was) and he saw how time consuming our darling DD can be. It was a small insight for him but he still thinks I should be able to juggle it all. I do have half a mind to express a stash of milk and go out for the day (with expresser in hand LOL) and give him the chance to get everything done in the day... but I can't bring myself to do it.
-
Hey all,
Sorry i been MIA.
Just a quick note,
El is 5.3 kgs, had her 2month vax, zantac is working much better, i can get stuff done if shes in the carrier.
Shes stiring again, sorry for this very short post, just letting u know, im still here, i do read, just a it busy atm.
-
Hi All,
Thanks for your comments re: my DH expectations! I passed a few of them on and he has been much better. ;)
Sorry for no personals. My Pop passed away this morning so Miss Z and I are flying down to perth and across to Brisbane on our own on Friday eeeiik. I knew it was on the cards, but it doesn't make it any easier. I thought he had bit longer than that and I planned on taking her to meet the grandparents after my sis has her baby in 4 wks. Just wish she had of got to meet and have a photo with him :(
On a positive my proud Dad gets to finally hold his grand daughter. She was in neo nates and could only look through the window when he flew over to see us for a few days. (I'm a daddy's girl so that means the world to me).
Miss Z has been sooo unsettled. She screamed non stop for a few hours the other day. Was quite distressing by the end of it. Hoping to take her to an osteopath while I'm over in the big smoke :p
Sorry this post is a bit selfish but just wanted to let you know I'm alive and not sure when I'll get back on here over the next few weeks but look forward to catching up with it all when home again.
Hope you're all well xx

Happy travels Ellee! Sorry it's for such a sad occasion.
Has anyone else's ticker stalled? I think mine got stuck a few days ago.....our kitchen clock ran out of battery yesterday and my whole day was out of whack - must be something in the stars.....
We've been borrowing a friends baby swing (battery powered with music and dangling toys) which has been a great device for allowing me a trip to the loo/shower without Orla stuck to me in the sling but she tires of it after about 15 mins (so no good for making dinner!) Luckily I didn't rush out and buy her one! Have to return it today tho :( Has anyone used one of those 'jumping joey' things you hang from the doorframe? I think that'd be more her thing since she LOVES to bounce - how young can they be to use them?????
I think she may be having the 6 week growth spurt at 8 weeks: feeding like a maniac and sleeping all arvo (unfortunately does not extend to sleeping all night!). I was hpoing to reduce my milk oversupply but somehow I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon....:dunno:
-
Koru - I have a swing, I love it for DS2, It is a little portable one. I also have a Jolly jumper - haven't used it with DS2 yet - honestly, all of my babies have loved the JJ, but only for 15mins at a time and it is such pain getting them in and out of it, it often isn't worth it - they can usually be used from about three months, but it depends on bubs head control. I think I am going to sell mine - I no longer have a door frame to hang it in, and don't think I would use it enough to justify buying stand for it.
With DS1 I bought an activity center which was much better and easier - It is like a seat which bubs sits in like a walker only stationary. He spent ALOT of time in it, I need to clean it up so DS2 can use it.
Baz had his shots on monday. He is the same length as at six weeks and has only gained 300g since then, which is fine by me (so he is now 6.3kg). ;) I couldn't find ny clean 00 clothes yesterday so I put him in a 0 wondersuit instead and it fit him. :(
Spent all day yesterday out at a play center with some other mums I have met through BB, it is so good to get out of the house - the weather hasn't been great here, so they are going a bit stir crazy lately.
Chat later, need to look after my kids.
-
Koru - I have borrowed a swing from a friend too. It is a god-send. Immi often naps in it andis actually asleep in it now. I also have one of those activity centres and would recommend it. I also have a Bumbo which will put Immi in once she has a bit more neck control.
Ellee - good to hear that your DH is being more supportive.
Misty - DS love playcentres. We are having DS's 2nd birthday party at one in a couple of weeks time. There will be around 10 kids so it will be chaos but hopefully a lot of fun.
tk - most bubs don't like tummy time to begin with. I know a mum that did tummy time on the bed where she could actually be at face level with bub and not be lying on the floor. Another idea is to do TT in front of a mirror.
salboo - its great to see them laugh and smile. We're not getting aby laughs yet but she is constantly smiling and cooing.
Cass - good news that El is responding to the medication.
AFU - Immi is getting over her cough. I think I'll be able to get her vaccinated next week as planned. She now weighs 5.29kg so very pleased with how she is growing. She mostly wears 000 now.
My back is slowly getting better. Now I'm able to move around more freely I have heaps of housework to catch up on. Better get to it

Hi everyone, I was wondering if you'd mind if I joined you guys? I have a later August bub Alana (she was born on the 24th), but no-one really posts in the Aug 16-31st group and I'd love to talk baby talk with someone LOL. I am baby buddies with Saffi and Willow in the October '07 group so it's nice to see some familiar faces :)
Alana was born 2 hours after my birthday after a very quick and easy labour. I also have two boys - Joel (about to turn 5) and Kieran (about to turn 2) so life is very hectic atm! Alana is 7 1/2 weeks old and an absolute delight. She's very easy going and sleeps well, I can't complain at all.
I hope you all don't mind me crashing this group? I'd love to get to know you all! I can't promise I'll post frequently though, it's hard to find the time to sit down long enough right now!
-
I'll talk to you Trish LOL. I wondered why we have 2 groups.
-
-
Hi Trish, and welcome, you have children similar ages to mine so our lives would be similarly hectic LOL! Most people I know have the older one and the youngest one but not the one in the middle like me. Maybe I am the only crazy one? ;-) Other than you hehe.
Hi to everyone else :hello:
Saffi - Glad to hear Imi is getting over her cough. Brayden has had a cough for a while they always seem to hang around forever. Emily has also got a cough thats hanging around but its not causing any probs so Im not overly concerned. Fantastic weight gain for Immi too
Misty - Baz is a nice size, well done  I think I might invest in one of those play table things with the seat too. They look good. We had one that they just stand at with Tahlia and Brayden but we gave it away. I like the look of the seat one better coz you can use it while they are younger and keep them in one spot for a while lol
Koru - I wouldnt worry too much about the milk oversupply, Im sure Orla and your Body will figure it all out eventually. Better than not having enough, if it doesnt calm down you could always express some and store it in the freezer, just make sure you date it and put how much is in there.
Ellee - Sorry to hear about your pop, you are probably on the aeroplane at the moment or could be in Perth already but I hope you have a safe trip. I hope Miss Z behave for you while you are away. They go through unsettled periods sometimes and its very distressing but try to stay calm and you will get through it, it wont last forever.
Cass - Glad the zantac is working. Yay for Els weight gain.
Tk - Yay for DD's weight gain too, thats awesome, such a tiny little thing. SOunds like she is doing well now which is great. I havent started to give Emily tummy time yet, I tried once and she didnt like it so I have worried again yet. Will probably start again in the next couple weeks or so.
Salboo - Max is growing nicely too, glad to hear he is sleeping well.
AFU - Emily is doing really well, she is very talkative when she is on her playmat with toy arch. Her face lights up when she sees me when she wakes up and she is all smiles and gooing and gaaing and she gets all excited. Im getting plenty of sleep at night (unless for whatever reason I cant sleep) but Emily usually only wakes once still and I am usually up with her for about 15 minutes max. She has one big sleep in the afternoon and the rest of the day is just catnapping mostly in the car or the pram or in my arms after a feed etc etc. I dont really time between her feeds, just go with the flow so sometimes she might feed again within the hour, sometimes it will be a couple hours during the day, then at night its about 5 - 6 hours between feeds. She gets her wind out ok now and doesnt usually have too many issues with belly pains, she has a bit of reflux but its not causing any issues so Im not concerned.
Im using cloth nappies during the day, but cant be bothered at night so we use one or two disposables at night, usually one is enough unless she dirties her nappy in the middle of the night which doesnt happen often anymore. I got babylove nappies on special and bought enough to last about 5 months cost me $48 so I think thats pretty good.
BFing is going awesome, never thought Id actually enjoy it. Only really wanted to do it for the cost savings compared to bottlefeeding and for the weightloss. It makes it so much easier when we go out. I have expressed enough for a couple of feeds aswell just in case I cant be with her for a feed for whatever reason. So far she has only had EBM in a bottle twice since she was born and I hated it both times, I felt so guilty even though she was still getting the good stuff.
Anyway, I better go, gotta finish cooking tea. Bye for now.
-
Question - how long does your BF take? It usually takes us at least 30 mins or probably longer and overnight I am usually up for around 90mins. I suspect there is alot of sucking and not much feeding going on. Got a script for Motillium so should probably look at increasing my supply. Given her weight gain she is getting enough nutrition between the BF and the FF but I wonder if its more due to the FF.
-
Saffi, Emily has a full feed usually in about 10 - 15 minutes. Unless she falls asleep, then she will hang on and just have a little suckle every now and then until I break the seal and take her off. Sometimes I let her just stay there for a while. The first week or two she would feed sometimes for up to an hour and a half, but the time slowly reduced as she learnt to suck properly.
-
Megan - Thanks for your welcome :). You definitely sound as busy as me right now! I'm glad to hear BF'ing is going so well for you. Alana is a great little feeder too thank goodness!
Saffi - Alana usually takes 10 - 20 minutes to feed during the day and around 10-15 minutes for her overnight feed. 90 minutes is a long time you poor thing. Would you consider limiting her to 10-15 minutes per side? She most likely would get enough in that time and may just be dummy sucking after that. Otherwise ring the ABA for some advice?
Can I ask how many naps a day your bubs all take? Alana takes 4, but her last one in the late afternoon is pretty dodgy. She usually sleeps 30 minutes if I'm lucky and then I wear her in a baby carrier until her next feed. I know this is her arsenic hour so I just put up with it. It will pass one day (hopefully soon!).
-
Trish!!!!!!!! Hello!!!! I'm so excited you're going to join us - YAY!!!
D is generally only having 3 naps but he is down for the night early at around 6pm so this doesn't bother me. His late afternoon sleep is dodgy too but I'm just going with the flow for now, trying to resettle and getting him up for a bath if I can't.
He has started sleeping in cycles this week - :wall: You remember how much fun that is! So I'm doing a lot of resettling during the day atm. Does my head in!! Sometimes he is able to resettle himself which is good and he is self settling to sleep initially pretty much every time these days so that's something. So trying not to stress too much and trust that he will get there eventually!
His general pattern is: wake at around 7am, feed. Back to bed at around 8am. He will generally be in bed for around 2 hours but this week I'm having to do a lot of resettling. He is then up at around 10ish, has a feed and back to bed at around 11am. He then does his big sleep of the day, usually around 3 hours. Up again around 2.30pm - 3pm, another feed and then back down at around 4pm. This sleep is pretty dodgy and I usually only get about an hour out of him. I always try to resettle but very rarely succeed. So he's then up at around 5pm, has a bath, a feed and then is down for the night at around 6pm. This is just the pattern he has established and I haven't tried to change it too much just yet. If he's happy to sleep from 6pm then I just let him go for now. He will usually wake between 11pm and 1am for a feed, then again at around 3.30am-4am.
Saffi - Our b'feeds are down to about 10-15 mins day and night. He feeds generally twice between 6pm and 7am and these are also quick feeds. But don't lose heart, some babies just take longer. Her feed times will decrease as she becomes more efficient - although I do understand you have a supply issue so this can't be ignored as a contributing factor either. The motilium sounds like a good idea. Google 'Galactagogue' - you may find some foods that can help with milk supply too. Have you tried drinking Aktivite?
Koru - I think we have a bit of an over supply issue too. There is still a lot of gulping, choking and gagging when he feeds, especially during let down but we're handling it OK. I am also feeding my almost 2yo once a day but the advice I've had from ABA is that wouldn't be contributing. At around 12 weeks the hormonal drive behind you milk supply will settle and then it is driven purely by baby's demand, so you will probably find things settle over the next month or so.
Tummy time - I don't really do it  Have never done it with any of my babies actually because they've all had really good head control from birth.
We had our 8 week vax and it went really well. He was very sleepy that night and the next day but other than that, uneventful.
I think D is the smiliest, happiest of all my babies! Doesn't take much at all to put a big grin on his face and he's trying really hard to talk to us! LOL. He is very content and I've actually forgotten he is sitting quietly in his rocker quite a few times!
Better go, my mum is here atm and is making the big kids pancakes for breakfast.

Hi Everyone, welcome Trish!
Max's routine goes something like this. wakes for the day between 6.30 and 7.30am. Has a feed/play.He may have a catnap before he feeds again about 10/10.30. after this feed he may sleep from about 11am until 2/3pm.(3-4hrs) Upon waking, he has a feed, plays for about an hour or so.Has about an hours nap in the late afternoon. Has his dinner feed between 6 and 7. Goes to bed around 7.30/8 pm.Sleeps till around 2/3am. Has a short sleepy feed and wakes around 7ish.SO to answer your question Trish, he only really has one big sleep in the middle of the day and naps in the morning(maybe) and late afternoon(usually). There's no real routine with max, when he's hungry I feed him, when he seems tired, i just put him to bed or in his cradle swing.
Saffi- breastfeeding during the day is usually about 20 minutes( both breasts). In the night time he usually only has one, so about a 10 minute feed. I was thinking about buying a bumbo seat, and read you have one, do you recommend them? How old do they have to be to sit in one?
Koru- had a jolly jumper for DS1, we probably only used it about 3 times, he really didn't like being in there and it was alot of effort to get him in it. I bought a cradle/swing for Max and he LOVES being in there. Will usually have his day naps in there.
Better go and attempt some housework whilst DS1 watching cartoons and Max is playing happily................
-
Salboo - I put DS in the bumbo when he was about 4 months. I think they need to have good head control before they can be put in it. I would recommend them and we used ours a lot.
Trish -we don't have set nap times but as a general rule it goes wake 5am, feed and then dozes between 6am and 8am. Feed 8am - 9am and then awake/doze time. Feed again around 11am - 12pm and then dozes. Feed again around 3pm - 4pm and then again at 5pm and then dozes and final feed around 8pm - 9pm. We put her down for the night and then may be up sometime between 1am - 3am. There are a lot of catnaps during this time and if we are in the car she will generally sleep or if I wear her in the sling so she does get some longer periods. Looking at this with the number of feeds I am giving her my supply should be great.
Immi slept from 9.30pm to 6am!!!!! She did stir at 5am but she went back to sleep. Pretty pleased about that.
-
Cass - so glad the zantac is working better for you both now.
Ellee - glad DH is better... can you get him to have a word to my DP... he seems to sway between being understanding and completely idiotic. I am so sorry to hear of your Pop's passing. My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.
Koru - I had my ticker with bub & beyond and it stopped displaying so I changed over to the one with bubhub which also calculates Caitlin's corrected age which is so handy.
Misty - it is nice to get out of the house! That reminds me I have an activity set type thing that I have to dig out (bought well before DD was born LOL).
Saffi - goodluck with DS birthday. I don't have much play centre experience but am sure I will get much more exposure over the coming years. Tummy time on the bed sounds like the way to go. Some days she doesn't mind it and others she cannot stand it. I am not sure how long Caitlin's feeds take... to be honest I haven't really timed them... they are sometimes quick and other times she falls asleep so I will take her off but then she will wake but fall asleep if I put her back on.
Trish - welcome! Will add your details to the front page. DD can sometimes nap most of the day (ie catnaps of 20-30mins duration) and then other times she will take fewer but longer actual sleeps.
Megan - hope you have better luck with the tummy time when you try again.
Caitlin also likes her play gym activity mat. I also have Caitlin in cloth during the day (haven't attempted night at yet but hope to over the next few weeks eek!)
Willow - I am also tending to go with the flow rather than establishing a routine. Some family have said I am making a rod for my back but I figure it is my back and if I want to support it with a rod for the moment then so be it. Caitlin also has a few choking issues when my let down occurs. I am well aware of it now and am prepared (even for the early morning feeds when I can barely open my eyes)
AFM - Caitlin is going well. DPs dad is in hospital at the moment after a suspected heart attack (tests still being done) we went and saw him last night and Caitlin had the BIGGEST pooplosion out of her sposie. Eeeewwww it was everywhere. We had the pokiest little baby change area to try to clean her up. she is now asleep in the sling so I have put some washing on and finally (FINALLY) finished this post LOL.
Big hellos to everyone else.
-
Thanks TK and Salboo for your welcomes :D. And thanks for letting me know about your bub's naps. Alana is on a flexible kind of routine where I feed her 2 - 3 hourly throughout the day. I always try to have her in bed for the night by 7 - 7:30pm and I give her a dreamfeed at 8:30pm (I'd like to do it later, but I need to go to bed early these days!). She sleeps anywhere from 7 - 9 hours after her dreamfeed then is up for the day at around 7 - 7:30am. I look forward to her cutting down to 3 naps one day soon when she can handle a bit more wake time.
Willow - 6pm bedtime is great if D still doesn't start his day until 7am! Ugh @ the sleep cycles :(. Oh how I hope Alana doesn't start doing them soon. I've been holding my breath in hope LOL! She only has a 30 minute cycle so it would suck if she couldn't resettle herself!
Saffi - Woohoo @ Immi's massive sleep last night!!! Here's hoping she keeps it up :D. Alana slept from 8:30pm to 5:30am two nights ago and I thought I was going to explode LOL!
Ha ha, here I was saying I probably wouldn't post much in here.... It's just so nice to talk about babies again!
-
Trish - That's one thing, Ds cycles appear to be about 60 minutes, so it's not as bad as it could be. Having said that he had a solid 2 hours this morning and then 3 hours earlier. I had to go in half way through his last sleep and give him a dummy to resettle but overall he's having a much better day. I expected the sleep cycle thing, all 3 of mine have done it :wall:. They tend to do it early which is good in one way because they learn to resettle earlier too. I think D is going to be much better at resettling than L was but we'll see...
Tempted to try a dream feed but still a bit scared to! Might try tonight!
Ooh, and I keep meaning to tell you we got your thank you card - very cute! Thank you.
-
Willow - I'm so jealous, Alana never naps for 3 hours! I'm lucky if she'll do a 2 hour nap for me, she's such an alert little thing, always wanting to be part of the action. A 60 minute sleep cycle is ideal, D is such an angel :D. Good luck with the dream feed! Just keep in mind that it can take a few days before it works well. Alana wouldn't take one at first, then when she started taking it she'd still wake up early out of habit. Now she's finally gotten the hang of doing her long sleep stretch after that feed. I've probably only been doing it for just over a week or two now.
-
Trish - Yeah, he is such a good boy most of the time, I shouldn't complain! His sleep cycles seem a bit funny to me...I know they can be up to 60 mins but I guess I've never been that lucky! LOL Wondering if he's actually stirring at the 45min mark, trying to resettle and then calling out when he can't which is around 60 mins :dunno: Anyway, he's had a really good day today had another solid hour this afternoon so I haven't had to do much resettling at all which is nice after yesterday!
Just put him down for the night and he nodded straight off, he's a bit over tired cause we have family here for pizza tonight...so I'd better go!
Am going to try the dream feed tonight - thanks for your advice...will let you know how we go ;)
