Hiya Saffi - Your DD sounds like she has a very similar sleep pattern to mine. I was stressing about Orla's day sleeps as well but have come to the conclusion that as long as she gets enough sleep overall and sleeps well at night (which she does) that we'll just go with that :)
We are picking up a Bumbo we won off eBay today - hope she likes it!
How's everyone else doing?????
-
How is everyone going. It has been quiet in here, although I imagine as Christmas approaches we'll become even busier. Any one else super excitied? I'm excited about DD first christmas even though she'll be none the wiser hehee. On the downside to that DH has to work christmas eve and christmas night, night shift so he will sleep all day anyway. We have friends that are staying in town so we're having orphan christmas... The joys of small remote communities.
TK - How is your sister holding up? Sometimes I too think about having a second child and it freaks me out but I know that plenty do it so I'm sure we'd cope fine :) Is your DD in infant nappies yet? about a week before DD turned 3 months we changed over so not too far in front lol.
Misty - you poor thing. How did DD worms go? Did you treat Baz? Hope things have improved for you.
Koru - I hear you on the climate depression. It's normally 38-39 degrees lately but was 42 the other day and will get to about 48! I've been begging DH to think about moving soon as jobs come up in Hunter Valley where we'd like to go next. Good on you for using MCN. I'd like to get some but DH isn't keen so not much point me getting any yet.
Saffi - aren't their little developing personalities just too cute. Such an amazing experience. Hope your supply increases for you soon. Have you tried the lactation cookies also?
AFU - DD got weighed on Tuesday. 5.1kg at 14weeks 1 day. She's doubled her weight and grown 11.5cm to 59.5cm since birth. We are seeing a visiting paed next week regarding her plagiocephaly and also the nurse said she is concerned about DD gross motor skills as she isn't pushing herself up with her arms and sometimes doesn't lift her head when you pull up with her arms. It's weird because everone tells us she has such strong neck muscles. She is our first so we don't really have much to compare to. Cradle cap is still hanging around so we're going to ask about that also. I've got the flu at the moment and DD has now got it too. She still doesn't like day sleeps but last night she slept for 11hrs!!!! then fed and coslept for another almost 4 hrs fed and slept for half hour then was up for an hour and is asleep again. Poor girl :(
Anyway this post is a bit me me me - sorry. Hope you're all enjoying life and getting lots of happy smiles from your babies and look forward to hearing from you all soon.
-
Hi everyone! I have been a bit slack posting in here . Three kids keep my very busy! My DH has been away in Japan for work this week, so it has been extra busy for me. He comes back tomorrow, woohoo!
Ellee - I'm amazed the nurse is worried about your DD motor skills at this age, she doesn't sound unusual to me, but I'm no expert :). Re: cradle cap, there was a thread about it recently and I suggested trying bicarb soda. When DS1 was a bub, my MCHN told me to pour some bicarb into my hand, add a little bit of water to make it into a paste and then slather it over DS's cradle cap. I did this during his bathtime and rinsed it out at the end of bathtime. The cradle cap cleared up after a few days. It worked even quicker with DS2. A few of the girls who responded to the thread tried it and it worked for them too :)
Koru - I've given up stressing about DD's day naps too! We just go with the flow now and I fell MUCH more relaxed. Funnily enough, when I stopped stressing she started sleeping better LOL!
Saffi - I look forward to Alana being big enough to go into her Bumbo! Immi sounds like she's doing great overnight!
Misty - I hope the worms have cleared up, not nice!
TK - I hope your sister is doing OK. You are such a good sister going to support her :)
megsmum - Wow, you sure know your MCN's! We've never used them and I guess there's no point now that I've had my last bub. I don't know if I could handle the extra washing either!
Megan - It's so gorgeous when they start to giggle and laugh :D
Hi to anyone I've missed!
Alana has just gotten over a nasty cough and cold (we all had it). Her night sleep went out the window for a couple of weeks, but luckily we're back on track again. A big problem was that she was getting out of her wrap overnight and it would wake her right up. My SIL lent me a Kiddopottamus SwaddleMe a couple of days ago and it has done the trick, she can't get out of it!
She's such a happy little bub, always smiling and chatting. She is so laid back, I hope she stays this way! She still hasn't had her 2 month immunisations yet because she's been sick, I'll have to do it ASAP now she's almost all better. At her 2 month MCHN visit she was 5.35kg and 60cm long. She's in the 90th percentile for height, weight and head circumference, such a big girl!
I hope everyone is keeping well :D
-
Misty - hope DD is better. How did you go with treating DS?
Koru - hope you are surviving the heatwave
Saffi - I know what you mean - the three months have flown! Glad to hear your supply is picking up on the meds.
Ellee - Yep as christmas fast aproaches everything does get super busy. I am also excited about DDs first christmas. Wow those are some very hot temps for you and bubs. Hope all goes well at the paed.
Trish - your gal sounds like she is doing well and coming along in leaps and bounds!
Thank you all for your kind words re my sister. She is as well as can be expected. She has a check up next week so our other sister, DD and I will be going up on Tuesday afternoon to be with her and support her if needed and we are heading back Wednesday evening or so. Trish - thank you... I am nothing special just doing what big sisters do. DD started swimming lessons today  she loved it - had one or two cries but a quick cuddle from mum is all she needed. I was a bit concerned that she would hate it but she didn't mind being dunked and did such a good job of moving her legs around. She has been asleep pretty much since we got home so I think she really tuckered herself out. At last weigh in she was just under 5.5kg and whilst the infant nappies do fit her they are HUGE and she can still easily wear the newborn size but I don't see the point in buying another box when she would outgrow them before I could use them. We haven't had as many days in cloth - I need to make some stay dry liners from microfleece - hopefully that will help the cloth nappy last longer than 20mins
Love and hugs to all
-
Great to have some people to chat with. It sounds like everyone's babies are doing really well, putting on heaps of weight and generally treating their mummies nicely.
koru - I know you will love the Bumbo.
Ellee - I saw on the net that there is a glove and brush set that helps massage cradle cap.The bicarb sounds effective tho.
tk- swimming lessons already?? Might be a nice way to cool down this summer. DS is 2 and still hasn't been to a lesson.
Trish - poor A! We also delayed Immi's vax.
What is everyone giving their babies for Xmas? I am really stuck for ideas as because Immi is our second we have a lot of baby equipment and toys already. I am really loathed to buy more toys but feel that we need to give her something. I was going to suggest to the grandparents that they give us cash to put towards a new car seat for DS. Don't know how that will go down.
-
Saffi - yep I didn't start swimming lessons until I was in school and I never quite got the hang of swimming... I go in the water for fun and I am fairly sure if I had to swim to save my life I could manage (just) and I knew I didn't want that for DD so we searched around and found a place that will start as early as 3 months... most places it is 6 months - and I would be lying if I didn't say that part of me was thinking it would be a great way to cool off during summer he he he he he he. The hardest part of the whole process was finding a rash shirt that would fit her (found one in 000 but it is a bit big but not too big) and the swim nappies say from 7kg which she isn't yet but they do fit her (thankfully)
-
Hi all,
Yeah its hard to find enough time to do a post in here isn't it? I'm finding that Miss E doesn't let me have a lot of time to myself LOL and on Thurs and Fri I also have my big DD in tow as well - high maintenance that one is!
koru - Glad to help :) So you're from NZ are you? You must hate the heat! You know, I've become a lot less tolerant of it too since I've had kids, don't know why but I just can't handle the heat anymore. And when I have E draped all over me feeding I just get so hot and sticky
misty - Oh no! I hope you can get rid of them without too many problems, poor little DD.
Ellee - Good luck with the paed  I have to say though, that I wonder the same as Trish - I would have thought its a bit too early to worry :dunno: I'm no expert either but my DD1 has slightly delayed gross motor skills and it didn't really become apparent until her 2nd year. I hope the flu leaves you all soon.
Trish - I don't think I ever said welcome to you in my last couple of posts, how rude of me - so welcome! As for the MCNs, LOL I had a fairly steep learning curve with them and DD. Alana sounds a lot like my E, she is so happy and chatty as well as laid back too. Thank goodness too because DH has been away in Gladstone for 3 nights this week for work like yours - actually my DH used to travel to Japan a lot for his last job, he loved the place.
tk - Glad to hear your sister is not too bad, don't kid yourself you are doing something special for her! Yay for swimming lessons, I'm looking forward to starting E too as she absolutely loves the water. I think we'll start her next year though - I already have my hands full with DD and her swimming lessons and gym, next year she'll be at school so E and I can go then. We'll just take her to the ILs for a swim over summer I think.
Saffi - The last 3 months have flown haven't they? I've got no idea what we're doing about Xmas yet, DH and I are chronic leave it till the last minute types LOL The Bumbo sounds great too, might have to look at one of them myself, E loves being propped up and looking around now.
AFU, had a weigh last week and she is now 5.5kg as predicted LOL Still on the 50th percentile, but her weight gains have slowed a bit. I'm not too worried about it though, she has become so active lately, always lying there and waving her arms around and kicking her legs. I'm sure she is just burning up a lot more energy. She is finally laughing too, sooooo cute. And exciting news, we have booked a holiday to Port Douglas yay! We leave just after Xmas and are spending a week up there - it should be fantastic  I have always wanted to got there. Just a little bit nervous about the flight up there with the 2 kids LOL 3 hours on a plane - could be ugly!
-
Hi everyone,
trish - I hear you on being kept busy with three littlies. I haven't been able to sit down for 5 mins tonight without having to get back up to resettle at least one of the kids.
everyone else - sorry I am too exhausted for personals atm. will catch up on that another time. today has been a LONG exhausting day.
We have all been treated for worms, except Baz. The dr said it wasn't even worth testing him, because he most likely does have them, but he cannot be treated this young. I have to retreat my entire family 2 weeks after the initial trearment and possibly again 2 weeks after that if I think DD or DS1 may still be infected and then again in three months time (at which point I 'may' be able to treat baz - if he has them) and then every three months after thatindefinitely, because it is most likely they are catching them from my cats (who don't get these kind of worms but often carry their eggs in their fur). sigh. I think my cats might start becoming indoor cats.
-
Hiya everyone,
TK I hear you on the swimming front: I'm a crap swimmer (tho enjoy splashing about in the water) due to a monster of a swimming teacher in primary school (he used to whack our legs with a stick! my how times have changed!) whereas DP grew up in tropical Qld and WA so is a natural swimmer - we are keen to teach Orla to swim asap :) How early can you give them lessons? I don't really want to stick her in a heavily chlorinated pool tho....
The Bumbo is a great success :) Will still chase up a Jolly Jumper for her as I think she'll enjoy that too...
Gotta go - baby needs a feed.....
Hope everyone is well :)
-
koru - I knew you'd love the Bumbo. I have already offered to lend it to a pg friend when her baby is ready for it.
Megs - yay for the holiday! We holidayed up there last year when DS was only 4 months old and had a great time. Just make sure there's aircon. DH is suggesting that we go for a holiday somewhere. Now that DS is 2 we have to pay for a seat on a plane for him. Why didn't we go away before!!!!!
tk - we already have a swimsuit for Immi for when she gets alot older so now just need to get her into a pool.
Nothing happening here. DH is home today as he isn't feeling well. Good for me tho as I have access to the car. Might look at getting out and about today and maybe into some aircon.
Have a good day everyone.
-
Koru - swiming lessons can usually be started from 4mths (although some places it is six mths). I used to do them with dd. they are great fun and good for socialising both mums and bubs. I wish I could have kept going with dd and the other kids - but it is a bit hard to go to swiming lesson with more then one kid and only one of myself.

Hi Ladies,
Have been reading all your posts and it seems like everyone is doing fantastically! I am hoping its ok to join this thread as our thread (late aug) seems to have all but died!!! And I see trish has made the move! Anyway, to give you an update on us, Lochie is doing great! He is 12 weeks (as of Sunday) and is lovely, happy and chubby. Had him weighed last week at 11 weeks and he was 6.2kgs! He is such a happy little fella, always giggling and smiling! He does this enormous belly laugh and thinks the world is hilarious. He manages a smile for anyone who looks at him and makes them feel very special as they think its just for them ;). As for sleep, during the day its only 40 to 45 mins at a time, but at night he goes for as long as 9 hours so im happy with that. He gets a lot of sleep during the day, he just prefers it in small but frequent bursts. Im not fussed with that at the moment. The other good thing is that after 7 weeks (when he was 7 weeks) he finally got the hang of breastfeeding!!!! YAY  I tell you though, it was a tough road. I fed my first son with no stress at all, he was a trooper, but Lochie found it a little tricky. He had a very small mouth that wasnt opening properly to attach and he was intolerant to anything in his soft palate making him gag and pull off all the time. I expressed and fed with a nipple sheild for the first 7 weeks and then finally, one day out of the blue, he latched on without it and has been feeding like a trooper ever since!!!! I think he just needed to get bigger and take the time to learn how to do it. I never thought i would have this problem as i thought 'i know how to do this, so why isnt it happening?'. Even my midwife mother couldnt get him on. But the lactation consultant was amazing and helped me, not so much find a technique that worked, but gave me the encouragement I needed telling me he could do it and to keep persisting. Im so glad I did cause now he is thriving! So...thats it for now, we are loving having this jolly and very chilled little man in our lives and we are certainly feeling very rested, even though this week he has gone from both all night sleeps to waking 2 times a night (I think the heat was making him extra thirsty). I forget that in the heat they need more feeds (as we do) as this is his only food and drink! But, the rough nights a few and far between so im pretty happy. Its a nice change as DS1 was a shocking sleeper as a a baby. Sorry for no persies today, I just wanted to share a little info about me and bubs and I look forward to getting to know you all.
Issy.
-
Megsmum - thank you. It would be busy with your other DD and her activities. I often wonder how I will go when/if we have another. Great news on the holiday, enjoy!
Misty - hope the worms treatments are going well. This might be a silly question but if Baz does have them would he be reinfecting the other kidlets? or is that null because of the cat situation?
Koru - ouch on that swimming instructor! Yep that would definitely not help the swimming lesson. We had to ring everywhere in our local area and we found one place that would start at 3months all other places were 6months. The pool that we go to isn't heavily chlorinated - it smells strong in the centre (they have 2 pools) but the one that the babies & toddlers groups are in is not overly strong... when we were in the water it wasn't that strong of a smell/feeling if you know what I mean.
Saffi - hope you were able to get out into the air con and that your DH is feeling better.
Issy - welcome! I have added your details to the front page - am I correct that Lochie was born on 30th Aug? Glad the breastfeeding panned out for you both. It certainly can be a tough road that BFing one. Looking forward to getting to know you better.
Big hellos to everyone else
AFU - going well. I am going to clinic this Thursday as I missed last fortnight - I think Caitlin is around 5.5kg which will mean 500grams in 4 weeks. She is a happy bubbly baby and her personality is coming through more now. She seems to hate the cloth nappies. Now everytime she has one on she screams blue murder... not sure what it is about it but I am hoping to sort it out soon... I don't want to have spent all that money for nothing. We are going up to Cowra today for a quick trip to see my sister. We will be heading back tomorrow evening.
-
Issy - I'd love for you to join our thread. I had wondered how you were getting on. Its wonderful that Lochie is doing so well and that BF is now established after a slow start. How's Rach going?
tk - bummer about the nappies (sorry for the pun HA HA). Is it really hot down there at the moment? Maybe she's uncomfortable wearing that type of nappy. Don't know much about them so just guessing. I think sometime it's a case of trial and error to find the right sort.
DH went to work today so he's feeling much better.
I'm hoping that Immi will let me do some card making today. I have all these Xmas cards I want to make and haven't done any card making for so many months.
Have a good day everyone.
-
Saffi - LOL @ the pun... I was thinking the same thing. It has been hot down here but even when it is cooler she cracks it big time. I have tried different sorts and no matter what it seems she cries. I am going to do a post in the cloth nappy section later today (am leaving soon for Cowra) to see if the lovely ladies have any ideas. GL with the card making
-
Hi ladies, trying to make an effort today to catch up in my buddy threads, I've been so slack but I just don't find the time to post!
TK - Bonham has joined our PAML (Parenting after m/c and loss) thread. The girls are wonderful and over the last few years have become some of my closest friends. She will get lots of support there from people who truly understand the grief. I am thinking of you both today
Misty - hope you are all worm free now! Musn't have been a pleasant experience for you. I've been thinking about worming DD because all she does is eat but she's the skinniest little thing ever.
Megs - Totally jealous of your holiday! We went away for the weekend last week and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the kids coped with it. Everyone slept just fine (DD and DS1 evern shared a room for the first time with no dramas) and we had a great time!
Issy - Welcome! I ditched my 'real' buddy thread with DS1 because it was so quiet and joined Trish and Saffi's thread, best thing I ever did!!
Saffi - NO idea at this stage what to get D for xmas, it's even harder with #3 because there's nothing he really needs! Did you manage to get some xmas cards done?
Swimming lessons - not even thinking about it to be honest. DD has just finished so we'll be taking DS2 next. It's too hard to take both boys when I'm on my own as I'd have to be in the pool with DS2.
Bumbo - we borrowed one from a BB friend and I put D in it yesterday. To be honest, I'm not sold yet, he looks a little strange in it and DH was not keen! LOL.
AFU - Things are going pretty well. D is sleeping great during the day but nights have taken a bit of a dive the last few weeks. Not sure if it's a 'phase', the heat or a growth spurt but wish he'd get over it! LOL. He is waking 3 times some nights and it's starting to get tiring. I just feed him and put him back down and he goes straight to sleep so I'm not sure if he's geniunely thirsty/hungy or what :dunno: None of my babies have slept through early (DD was about 7ish months, DS1 was 10 months and that was only after a stay at sleep school) but when D was doing 7.5 hours I had hopes he'd be the one...apparently NOT!
We have his follow up appt with his paed tomorrow to discuss his scans at the Children's Hospital. Praying all will be OK and we won't have to go back but I'm sure he'll want to continue to follow up so I'm not holding my breath.
D is such a happy, easy going baby...lots of you have said the same thing. Wonder if it's a Leo thing?? D smiles, talks and blows raspberries all day now. He has started rolling on to his side this week too. Not sure if that seems a bit early, I can't remember - any of the other bubs doing it? I'd prefer he took a bit longer to start rolling cause it's usually fun trying to keep them wrapped for sleeps then!
So, other than a bit sleep deprived at night, we're doing well.
Better be off, housework is calling and D needs to go down for a nap.
-
Willow - Yeah we can't wait either :) should be excellent. Glad to hear your kids did OK on your trip away, I'm not too worried about DD1 she is already looking forward to going to "the holiday house" as she calls all our holidays LOL, just E and the plane flight and drive down to Sydney eeek! But I figure if we don't just bite the bullet and do it, it could be ages till we go anywhere again.
tk - GL at the clinic on Thurs and all the best to your sister. Oh NO about the nappies, I don't know what I would try, never had that problem myself - maybe a fleece liner to keep her bum dry like in a sposie - if you haven't tried that already?
Saffi - Yeah we never went away with DD1 until she was over 2 either :( but we took her to Singapore last year and she loved it - just give her somewhere with a pool and she's happy as larry LOL But yep hearing you on the air con, I'll die without it! Hope you got the card making done :)
issy - Hey there - good to see you again and welcome! Glad to hear that you and Lochie are doing well, sounds like you have had a rough time.
koru - Our centre lets them start swimming at 4 months, but that will be Dec and holidays for us (the centre is closed except for swimming camps for bigger kids which DD1 does over school hols) so I'm starting E when it reopens next year. Got her the cutest little 00 swimmers to wear on our holiday though :) Glad the Bumbo is a hit.
Hi everyone else!
AFU - OMG have we had a couple of bad nights or what  Night before last was so hot that E wanted to feed all night, and last night I just dunno - wouldn't settle after DD1 woke us all up because she needed to do a poo LOL Anyway E was up at 12.30, 2.30 (with DD1), 4.30 and 5.30 and 6.30 so I think I'll be heading off for a few zzzz's as soon as E does! I'm so not looking forward to the hot weather that is ahead in the next few days. And we had the biggest oh yuck incident on the weekend - E did a big poo and when I was changing her she stuck her hand down into it, then wait for it, went to put it straight in her mouth eeeeeewwwww!! Luckily I caught her hand before it got there LOL
-
MegsMum - Hope you got a sleep in today. Perhaps E is going through a growth spurt? The MCHN told us that they go through one at this stage. Yaaay for the holiday! Glad to hear you managed to stop the hand hahaa
Willow - Hope you hear some positive information from the paed tomorrow. Glad to hear Bubba D is a happy baby... aren't they just the cutest.
Trish - Thanks soo much for the bicarb idea. I think it is helping, have done it for 3 days now. The kiddopottomas wraps are great aren't they. I have 2 but need to get some in the next size up. Hope Alana gets better soon.
Tk - Hope you had a safe trip to see your sister and that she is doing as well as can be expected. Did you have any luck with the cloth nappies? Good luck with the clinic
Saffi - Christmas presents... I have no idea what to do, even though she is our first lol. How'd you go with the card making? I really wish I was creative.
Misty - I never knew about the worms on the cat fur... we've been thinking of re-homing our cat. Sad but I think it is for the best given our climate and her long malting hair. It's too hard to have her in the house with DD now.
Koru - glad to hear the bumbo is a success. We were thinking of getting one. DH parents got a fisher price portable high chair booster seat thingy hahaa but its hard plastic and I'm not a fan of it for this stage
Issy - Welcome. Good on you for sticking it out with the bfing. Lochie sounds like such a happy baby and a healthy one at that :) DD was 5.1kg at 14wks last week (but she was born at 36+6).
AFU: We've had a rough week TBH. My sisters 2wk old baby underwent open heart surgery on Monday which was a big shock, and things were not looking good. But happy to say that things are going great and she had her first feed since Friday today :) So very scary! Miss Z & I have had a cold which has been more frustrating as it prevented us from going to support my sister. I'm nearlly over it but Z is still coughing and sneezing - never thought something so little could produce so much snot hahaa. We visit the paed tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'm in denial but I don't think she has issues with her gross motor skills.
She loves her bath time and I look forward to putting her in swimming lessons ASAP. It seems strange but she already has developed opinions on nursery rhymes and songs - she hates "the wheels on the bus" but absolutley loves me singing "heads and shoulders, knees and toes...".
I bit the bullet and ordered a jumperoo online the otherday when they were on sale. Also some more books. I would like to say these are for christmas but don't really want to wait another 5 wks to use them.
Anyway sorry for yet another long post. I've been slack with popping in this last week and DH is on night shift so I'm feeling a bit lonely. Hope you're all well and not melting in the heat :)
-
ellee - My thoughts go out to your sister and family, that must be hard to go through.
Well I am exhausted, I haven't had much sleep over the past two nights. DS1 has been keeping everyone awake screaming in pain. He has some illness, which we are waiting on blood tests and urine samples for, to try and fifure out what is wrong. And last night, DH had to take him to emergency - he now also has an acute middle ear infection.
It is supposed to be the baby keeping me up at night, not the 2yr old. The baby is sooo happy and easy - thank god because it seems like everyone else just requires so much energy and attention since bubs has been born.
Can I ask what size clothing everyone's bubs are wearing? Just curious. Baz is in a size 0.
-
Wow been busy in here!
Welcome Issy - glad to hear your perserverance with BF paid off :)
TK - you probably considered this already but are the leg holes too tight on the nappies? Hope you get to the m 'bottom' of it !;)
Ellee that must have been an awful experience for your sister to go thru - will her baby need ongoing meds etc for the heart condition or did the op fix it up? My SIL has a heart condition and is on meds - doesn't stop her doing competitive cycling tho!
Orla hasn't been weighed in ages (was 5.1 kg at 10 weeks) - so hard getting an appt at my local MCHN . she's still comfortably in size 000 so I'm guessing she hasn't topped 6kg yet - tho in this heat she's drinking heaps!
What are everyone's tips for getting bubs to sleep in the heat? We don't have a/c in the bedroom unfortunately so the fan has to do. My mum said she used to wrap an icey cold face cloth round my feet to draw heat from my head (we lived in California when i was a baby) - not sure if I'm game to give that a go!
-
Hi everyone!
What a shocking time we've been having LOL! Alana has been increasingly harder to settle off to sleep over the past few weeks, by last night I was at my wits end. She screamed/fought sleep no matter WHAT I did. I tried rocking her, bouncing her in her hammock, walking her around, feeding her, wrapping her, unwrapping her, you name it, I tried it! After about 3 hours she finally fell asleep while feeding. Then this morning she started right up again, refusing to take a nap. It's awful when she won't even calm down with me cuddling her. I rang our paediatric chiro and got an appointment thank goodness, it turns out her neck is out. No idea how it went out of whack, but it looks like this could be causing our probs. The chiro said it is not normal for her to stay unsettled for so long (I kinda knew that LOL) and that she is clearly in pain. The poor little thing :(. I'm taking her back on Monday for another check up. But luckily when we got home she settled really easily to sleep and has been asleep for the last hour and a half. Hopefully once we have her neck sorted, she'll be back to normal. She's so happy and smiley when she's having wake time, then as soon as it's bedtime she becomes hysterical.
Sorry to launch off on a huge "me" post LOL! I think I just need to debrief.
Koru - The heat's awful isn't it? I just have a fan in Alana's room. We have an old airconditioner in one of our living rooms, but it doesn't really reach her room. Hmmm...don't know if I'd be keen to try the cold face cloth on the feet!
misty - Your poor DS :(, he must be in so much pain. I hope he gets better really soon. Alana is still in 000's.
Ellee - I'm glad the bicarb is working for you :). It is so cheap! Gosh, it must a scary time for your family atm. I'm glad your sister's bub has come out of surgery OK.
megsmum - I hope you get a bit more sleep soon! It's so tiring, especially when you have another child to care for. I am soooo jealous that you are going to Port Douglas! It is my most favourite holiday destination! We've been there twice and absolutely love it. It will be very hot there just after Christmas, I hope you are staying somewhere with a pool!
Willow - I hope all goes well at your appointment today. I'm thinking of you guys . Let us know how it goes.
Saffi - You're so clever being able to make cards! I don't know when I'd find the time (and lets not mention the fact that I'm not talented anyway LOL).
TK - I hope your clinic appointment goes well today, Caitlin sounds like she is doing really well :D
Issy - I'm so glad you've joined us in here! That's awesome that Lochie has gotten the hang of BF'ing! Well done on all of your hard work :D
Hi to everyone I've missed, I hope you're all doing well!
-
Ellee - to your sister, and her family and you, so very glad to hear that bub is doing well, how awful! GL at the paed today. I think you may be right about the growth spurt too, that was what I was thinking as well, she has settled down again the last few nights, but we'll see tonight - its very hot here today!
misty - We're in 000, but very soon to be 00. She's growing in length really fast.
koru - I'd try a fan too I think, we have a/c so its not a major issue for us luckily. Don't know about the icy cold cloth :o would maybe try it cool though - dunno!
Trish - We certainly are! DD1 would disown us if we didn't LOL Glad to hear Port Dougls is great from you and Saffi. Poor Alana, hope the chiro does the trick.
Willow - Hope the paed appt went well.
AFU, had a bit more sleep the last couple of nights yay! She's gone back to the normal 2 feeds. Dunno about tonight though, its very hot here today and she has been really thirsty so far and had some big feeds. We went out to take DD1 swimming this morning and it got up to 44, poor little E was in a lather of sweat. At least its back down to 35 now and we're at home in the air con. Hope everyone else is doing well today :)
-
Misty - how is DS1 going? Hope you got answers and he is feeling better allowing you to get some rest. DD still wears mostly 0000 but starting to get to 000 for the all in ones because she has long legs. My friends 8wk old is in 00/0 and 7kg. Amazing how all bubbas are soo different just like us I guess.
Koru - I don't believe that my niece will need ongoing meds. Just 12 monthly check ups to make sure everything is still fine. We're lucky to have the entire house aircon'd although wouldn't live here if it wasn't!
Trish - Poor Alana! Hope that her neck is improving and you have your happy girl back. It's terrible when they're sick isn't it.
MegsMum - 44 that's crazy hey. Little bubbas are apparently less tolerant of the heat too. It's frustrating because I used to walk twice a day but it is just getting too hot. Glad to hear you've got some sleep
AFU - Turns out the MCHN was totally wrong. No issues with her gross motor skills infact the paed said she is doing really really well. She is rolling over all the time now from tummy to back and has done back to tummy couple of times but not much. Her Plagiocephaly isn't good. The paed said it was good that i pushed the issue (MCHN kept telling me her hair will cover it!). We are going to start intense physio as she has torticollos which is making our positional efforts pointless. Apparently left untreated she would have developed right side of body but not left. Also her eye sight development would have had problems. So go's to show gals... Mothers instinct is spot on!!! There is talk of a correctional helmet if the shape doesn't imrove before she is one.
DD has been quite unsettled of an evening lately and I've had a bit of cabin fever with her being sick and DH been on night shifts. So was lovely to get out and meet up with some of our mummy friends this morning.
Hope you have a great weekend with your families
-
Ellee - you have to wonder about these MCHNs. Not saying that gross motor skills aren't important but the other issue is so much more serious and yet she dismissed it totally. Good that you have some answers and can now do the right treatments.
Trish - didn't know A was giving you grief. Hopefully the treatment has put her right.
koru - have you tried the washer idea? Sometimes the old remedies are proven to help.
misty - how is DS1 doing now?
megs - I'd love to walk more too but its getting too hot and humid here and will only get worse.
tk - how's your sister doing?
issy - hi
Hope I didn't miss anyone, if I did hi!
Immi is in 000 and weighs 5.97kg. I was a bit surprised to see on the growth chart that she is under the 50th percentile. She seems much bigger.
-
Hello girls & bubs!!
Well it's been quite awhile since I posted in here, have no idea where the days & weeks disappear!!
Am not even going to attempt personals today, just wanted to touch base. Peter is doing very well, almost weighing 7kgs & about to go into 00 clothes. (To answer misty)
He has turned out to be quite an easy bub, wouldn't have thought it if his first 6 weeks were anything to go by lol.
I hope all is well with everyone, look forward to chatting more often.
-
Morning girls.
Our appt with the paed on Thurs went well. His scans all came back normal  His hips are totally fine but his head circ is quite literally off the charts (his brother was the same) so we need to monitor his head growth, we see the paed again in 3 months.
He is a whopping 7.9kg  and 64cm! Weird thing is, he can still fit in to some 000s but is mostly in 00s :dunno:
Misty - How big is Baz?? I think D is the biggest bub in here and he isn't in 0s yet...wonder if it's because he's a bit shorter or something??
Ellee - Glad to hear that little miss isn't having any gross motor issues, sounds like she is doing well in that department with all that rolling. We are starting to roll from back to side but that's about it. Sorry to hear about her head though (I can empathise ), even though you are on top of it, it is worrying when things like this happen with our little bubs. I haven't even taken D to see a MCHN, not once! We've been seeing his paed regularly enough that I just haven't bothered with it. I think I only took DS1 once. DS has also been unsettled of an evening the last week or so. I took him away for the weekend and he was a perfect angel, get him home and it's back to unsettled :dunno: Doing my head in a bit but he is seriously so great every other time that I can't complain.
Trish - How is Alana doing? Has she settled a bit?
Well as I said, I spent 4 days in Adelaide over the weekend and DS was just great the whole time we were away! Slept on the plane and settled and slept really well the whole time we were there.
Starting to get tired with his night shenanigans, but hopefully it will pass soon.
-
Morning all!
Willow - great that D was given the all clear. He is growing so well from the sounds of it. Immi is practically rolling. Like D she can roll on her side but just can't make that final move over her arm. She gets really frustrated by it too.
Cheezel - hi there! Good to hear that Peter is now more settled and you are enjoying motherhood.
Hello to everyone else. Hope you are all well.
Anyway, Immi is calling out for a feed or something so gotta go.
-
Misty - hope DS is better now . DD is in a mix of 0000 and 000, she seems to be getting into more and more 000 but some of her 0000 still fits.
Koru - checked the leg holes and they are ok... I have NO idea what it is... argh! With the heat we just lived downstairs - including sleeping on a mattress on the floor because we also don't have AC but we do have a portable AC unit (though I wonder how much it does).
Megsmum - glad you got more sleep. Eek @ those temps.
Ellee - sorry to hear about your sister & bubs. Glad that the MCHN was wrong.
Saffi - hope things are going well
CheezelMonster - glad things have settled down for you.
Willow - glad that the appt went well. I think you just make big bubbas! Bonham told me that you guys are very supportive and a godsend to her during this time. I am so thankful for all the BB gals.
Trish - Glad that the chiro was able to help. Eek does not sound like fun with all that unsettled period.
Issy - welcome!
Hello to anyone I may have missed!
AFU - Caitlin now weighs 5.8kg and gained 100g in 4 days there at one point LOL. We are doing really well apart from the cloth nappy situation. I have tried various fabrics against her skin and she screams blue murder... I have no more ideas and am currently considering selling my stash because it is not worth the screaming and me feeling guilty that I have nappies but can't use them... but then I think maybe she will grow out of it and actually not scream at one point so I am not sure! Not much else to report.
How is everyone going in the lead up to Christmas?

Hi Ladies,
Misty - Bub is in mainly 00's but 0 also fits. He never fit 0000's (he was 4.1kgs, 9lbs2oz) so they were put away straight away. He was in 000's for a few weeks, but nothing in that size fits anymore. I bought him some suits from pumpkin patch yesterday and chose the 6-12 months size thinking that they will be a little roomy to wear under things when autumn comes around, but they fit perfectly now so dont know how long they will last. He has just gone 3 months on Monday, and is 7kgs already, so im thinking I have a big bubba compared to others in here...he takes after his father who is VERY tall and has a big build.
Saffi - Hi, Rach is going great! Little Eli is not so little anymore, he is bigger than Lochie at the moment and is also just gone 3 months (14wks). He is just delightful, big chubby bubby and LOTS of hair, which forms this hilarious mohawk just like his little friend Lochie. They are quite the pair when they are together (they have a play date once a week), chatting away to eachother and smacking eachother in the face. Eli is rolling over and sleeping like a trooper! He is also a very chilled baby like Lochie. And ofcourse Rach looks fantastic and is absolutely loving motherhood...she is a natural!
Ooooops, I was going to do some more persies, but bubba duties call...morning nap is over! My 40 minute wonder boy is awake! Will hopefully get back in here later and write some more.
Hi to everyone and thankyou for the warm welcomes!
Issy

Hola everyone!
Just popping in to give a sign of life - bit hard to type while bouncing on a fit ball (Orla is in a sling and having a 'bad sleeping' day :( )
Is anyone expressing breast milk for babysitters/carers to give their babies? I've just realised it's only 6 weeks til DP and I have a 'date' out on our own and whilst Orla will probably be asleep when we leave the house (finger crossed!) and we'd be home before her midnight feed she may wake and need some feeding for comfort if anything. I haven't practised giving her EBM from a bottle and I've recieved dire warnings from people that she might not take milk from the bottle I've left it so long! :o
Ant tips/advice?

Hi All,
Its been a while since I posted and Im feeling lazy so no personals today.
Emily is now rolling over, she started yesterday YAY! She looked so proud of herself when she did it. She has only done it about 5 times now coz she has to be in the right mood I guess,
She is between a 000 and a 00 so it depends on how big or small the sizing is.
Cloth nappies are going well, we are still using them except for night time which Im not gunna bother with. I figure disposables draw the moisture away from the skin better and would be much more comfortable for her for such a long period. And its only one or two a night we use (depending if she wakes with a dirty nappy or not).
I have been expressing to empty both sides at night and storing it. Have had a few busy weeks where I have had to go out with Tahlia for her ballet concert and had late nights and so Emily stayed at home with DH and he fed her with the EBM. I bought some a special bottle that is supposed to be good for combining bottle and breast feeding so she wouldnt hate it too much. DH said she was fine with it, was a little confused at first but didnt have any probs.
I cant believe Emily is due for her 4 month immunisations soon. We just got a letter in the mail from the Dr reminding us. Geez that time has gone fast.
Emily is has also realised what her hands do and how to control them a bit, so she now grabs at her toys on the toy arch and plays with them and puts them in her mouth. She gets sooooo talkative when she is playing on the floor. Very cute.
Anyway sorry about the absence of personals, but a BIG :hello: to everyone
Will try not to leave it so long before I post again. I read often and its good to hear that all our bubs are doing well.
Bye for now
-
Megan - Glad you and Emily are going well :)
koru - Just answered your post about expressing :) Hope it helps and enjoy your date with DH!
tk - Great weight gains! Bummer (sorry!!) about the cloth nappies :( Wish I could think of something else you could try, maybe hang on to some of your stash and try again in a month or 2? I started DD1 quite late and she never had a problem with them so maybe you might have more luck when she's a bit older? Christmas - is that happening sometime soon?! LOL
Willow - Glad everything went well, you must be very relieved. Sounds like you have a very big boy there LOL
Cheezel - :hello: Glad you and Peter are doing well.
Saffi - I could cope with the heat here but the humidity is awful ATM! I spend all my day guzzling water. And we chose Port Douglas as a holiday destination too LOL
Ellee - Yay for mother's instinct, you are doing a great job and don't listen to those MCHNs if you don't agree with them. At least it sounds like the paed is going to help :)
Hi everyone else that I've missed!
AFU, had a very hot weekend but survived - thank god for air con! E has started to grab at the dangly toys on her swing this week and is rolling onto her side heaps more too but not much else exciting happening. She is back to feeding twice a night this week - yay! - and is really happy during the day except when I am on the computer like now LOL
-
Hi girls
Saffi - sounds like Immi isn't far away from rolling!!
TK - wow way to go Caitlin on the weight gain!! Shame about the cloth nappies, maybe do what someone else suggested & give it a couple of months? To answer your question - xmas all sorted!! I originally wasn't even going to get Peter much (seeing it's the only year I'd be able to get away with it...) but have managed to go quite overboard lol!! How about yourself?
Koru - hi sorry don't have much advice about EBM. Hope someone can give you some tips.
Megan - great news about the rolling over!! Peter only goes from tummy to back when he feels like it too.
Megsmum - glad to hear all is going well with you, fantastic about the night feeds!!
AFM - Peter has been doing this veeeerry high pitched squeal for the last few days when he plays, have to admit I'm happy when he goes back to bed lol!! He did abit of tummy to back rolling today, only does it when he feels like it. By the time DH came to watch he'd gotten over it & didn't do it again!!
I hope you're all having a nice weekend.
-
Cheezel - D is squealing too! Has been for about 2 weeks now. I remember my other kids doing it, thankfully it's a phase that passes!
-
Chezel - Great to hear that Peter is a good cruisy baby. Miss Z hasn't started the squeal... YET
Willow - Don't you wish that our little ones understood how happy they made their mummies when they're settled and well behaved. DD also is generally well behaved when out and about but when we get home.... that's another story hahaa
TK - way to go with Caitlen's weight gain! She's lept ahead of DD although her legs have got a few rolls in them in the last 2 weeks - soo cute.
Megan - Nice to hear everything seems to be going along nicely for you.
Megs Mum - I hear you on the heat. 41 degrees yesterday here and expecting most days to be about 42 this week. Air con is only way to go!
AFU - Miss Z has been a real active little monkey and I'm wondering if she has some teeth movement. Her FP Jumperoo arrived this week and I was going to give it to her for christmas. Lucky I don't have older kids or friends with older kids because I've let her use it  She loves it and I felt like she needed more stimulation and activities,
I'm thinking of buying a breast pump this week. Any recommendations??
-
Ellee - dont get a Medela Mini. I have been using a manual breast pump and it has been working ok but thought If I use it daily it would be easier to get an electric one. Well........Ive gone back to the manual one. The Medela Mini Electric was extremely noisy and I found that It doesnt have enough suction to get the dregs out (which is what Im doing every night before bed and storing it). I have used an Avent manual Pump which was fantastic and am currently using a cherub one I bought new off ebay which is ok, it does the job but its not a great quality product.
Im so disappointed with the Medela Mini Electric, I even checked out reviews on it and everything. Its the last time I will trust product reviews online coz I did the same with my pram and was disappointed too.
Hope that helps a little.
-
Thanks Megan. I'm definately thinking an electric one just for when/ if I go back to work. I was looking a the Medela Swing but I've heard the Avent isis ones are good... decisions decisions. I was looking at a cherub one so glad you steered me clear of that one. Thanks!
-
Whoa, I'm pretty sure we have a tooth :o
They've been very visible in his bottom gum since about 10 weeks and I can definitely feel something hard and sharp in his bottom gum. If it is, it's not fully out yet though.
-
Have any of you heard of the Amber Teething necklaces? I was talking to a couple of the girls in chatroom the a few weeks back who swore by them. I'm going to order one for Miss Z. They recommended amber bebe dot com dot au.
-
Yup, DS1 has one and I'm ordering one for D this week. I get them from Inspired by Finn though, it's a US site.
