Georgi… hm, I stepped on the scales this morning and could probably stand to lose 8kg. Six would see me at pre-pregnancy weight… which I will never get to if I can’t get past my addiction to Mars Bars!
MadB you can’t eat naughty food if it’s not in the house therein lies my problem. I went out last night after DH came home to fill the car with petrol (couldn’t do it with Millie in the car, it was too stinking hot yesterday) and just happened to pick up a Mars Bar. Whoops
As for us… went along to the parent group on Monday morning. It was packed as it was the first one back so we split into two groups based on the age of the babies. It was good to chat, and everyone seemed to be relieved to be out amongst like-minded company. Headed to the shops after that to get out of the heat and just wandered for a bit. When I got home Millie was overtired and very, very sooky… would only settle in my arms – on a hot afternoon! She has a high thermostat like her Daddy so even under the aircon it was like I was holding a hot water bottle! Yesterday it was even hotter so as soon as I got up and showered I took her down stairs and apart from a trip out to have lunch with my sister, we stayed downstairs. I was worried that she wouldn’t settle in her rocker but she was awesome. I think she liked being able to open her eyes and just see me there. We all slept in the lounge room last night and in spite of the cruddy air mattress we had a good night – Millie slept from 8pm – 4am and I got close to 5 hours, then another 2 this morning. Bliss!
So obviously I haven’t been able to swap her feeds over. I found at 10pm she would take so little of the feed that she’d wake up around 3 or 4 anyway, so I’m just following her lead. She’s pretty regular with 3.5-4 hours between feeds during the day and she’s stretching out night sleeps more and more.

Ah, Miri is doing the non-sleeping thing now. I've just borrowed a breeze baby sling from a friend - much cooler than the HAB.
I also just won a bid for a Wrap me up swaddle. Google it - it's so cute! I'm hoping it will help with her restlessness and fussing with her arms.
And I bought some material to make more nappies.
Thought it might be a bit optimistic to swap feeds around like that Pixie - she'll probably do it sometime when it isn't convenient for you.
We went out and got a wrap me up (i think) after seeing them in PP's photos. Harper seems to really love it. In this weather she is only sleeping with a singlet on underneath. I find the ones that button up under the bott are best because they don't creap up when holding them. We only use it at night and wrap in muslin during the day but it's working for us. Been a bit hectic here but hope to catch up with everyone soon.
Audax – I drink loads of water too! Gosh what an experience on the bus…I’m glad you and your little one are both safe… pays to speak up sometimes!!
MadB – is it cooler there yet? 5.5 hours!!! That’s awesome, good girl Miri! So did you get yourself more naughty food? I don’t have any here which is lucky cause I don’t think I have the self control at the moment! I have one of those swaddles and it is the ONLY thing that keeps those cheeky little arms in!! Jacob wakes himself up with his arms out so it’s been so fantastic! Hope Miri enjoys hers.
PP – I’m glad Millie’s new formula is working out! Jacob is a very warm baby also. How cute she settled best when she could see you close by, I find the same thing – it’s really sweet to feel the love returned! Hope the heat eases up for you soon, sounds so uncomfortable!! But lovely family time at least.
EJ – you are so creative!! Have fun sewing up a storm!! How’s little Harper doing? I hope she is still doing really well. It must be nice to see her comfortable again!
Kaz – How cute is pip reading the book to Will, my nephew tries to play with Jacob – he’s 19 months old and he says “toys? Play?” Hope your nipples is healed, sounds painful!!
Hey Georgi – Jacobs last feed is around 8.00pm and I go to bed with him as he settles much faster when he can see me. He’s been doing his one four hour stretch every night for about a week now and I am LOVING the extra sleep! After midnight he switches back to two hourly feeds but he settles fairly quickly once he’s fed. Hope Eden and Byron are doing well. Sounds like you’re all settled into a beautiful little routine there.
AFU – Well, very worried about family and friends up north. I am a North Queensland girl born and raised and a lot of my family lives there. So far everyone is in safe places so lets hope it stays that way. We will see what the next 24 hours bring. Thoughts and prayers are with them all. Jacob had his immunisations today, I was a nervous wreck!! He did soooo well! He had two really sad cries/screams and then I was able to pick him straight up and as soon as he was in my arms he calmed immediately with a few wimpers, I had to wait in the waiting room for 15 minutes to be checked over and I just had him in my arm across my legs and was rocking him with his dummy and he was fast asleep. He’s had no temperature but seemed uncomfortable so he’s had one dose of panadol and has been really well behaved!! We have had a rough few days…Jacob just seemed so uncomfortable, has been waking up crying and pulling his legs up, groaning a lot…vomiting quite a bit…so I spoke to the paediatrician on the phone (we only have one doctor out here and he’s really hopeless) about the possibility of reflux and he couldn’t agree more. He wrote a script for zantac and we’ve started him on that. He seems to be a lot more comfortable and is sleeping a little quieter so I hope we’re on the road to fixing his uncomfort.

The Wrap me Up is AWESOME. We were given one by a friend and it is fantastic - Millie can Houdini out of the most snug muslin wrap and likes to have her hands up as she goes to sleep, but still startles easily if her arms are free once she's sleeping, so it is perfect for her. We bought the medium about 10 days ago as she grew out of her smalls. You can get a "lite" one which is better for this weather.
Now that Millie is a bit bigger I'm feeling game to start trying the MCNs we bought (they are multi-size and even snapped right up they were too big for her tiny 15-day early butt) - just have to buy the inserts as the ones we bought didn't come with them (???) and, haha, it was one of the things on my list of things to do in the two weeks before she was due... gotta love a bub who likes to thwart Mummy's best laid plans You're so right MadB, she will definitely decide to change her feeding patterns when I'm least prepared for it!
DH will be home soon... poor bugger walking home from the station in this heat.

that storm is massive! I really hope everyone gets through it ok. a cat 5 went through my home town some years back (my family was still there but not me) and luckily it moved through really fast so although 40% of the buildings in town had serious structural damage or were destroyed, nobody was hurt.

sorry I haven't been in personals, it's been a bit hectic here. Plus it was Pip's first day at Kinder today! Hey does anyone's bub strain and push hard for poos? Will grunts and groans and screams - and lately they've been smelling quite ... rancid. And of course my washing machine has broken, and I have a load of nappies to do! SMELLLY!!! (thank goodness for the lil' squirt, else it'd be even worse....)
MadB we bought EARFTS (DH found them on ebay and bought a pack of 12 for a good price, but like I said no inserts), but I also just bought a VERY cute Archie & Moo one - they're both pocket nappies. Have had a look at Cushy Tushies website tonight as well, they seem to have a good range but the liners are snap on so I wonder if I should just stick to pocket ones to simplify things? Kind of excited about it - must buy a nappy bucket tomorrow
Kaz, Millie was having a hard time pooping before I switched her formula. The Nan HA Gold was too rich for her, she would strain and yell and it stank and looked like thawed chopped spinach (sorry if y'all were eating...). She's on S26 original now and it's back to BF colour and consistency... not quite smell, sadly She's not straining to go anymore and rarely gets tummy pains. I hope Pip enjoyed kinder
That's something I've been doing this week - calling childcare centres in our area. I put our name down at my preferred place (literally just around the corner, purpose built centre with a very good reputation) early on in the pregnancy, and the guy said to have back up plans... but then DH broke his ankle and it all kind of fell by the wayside. We are first on the waiting list for this place, (I won't go back to work til July) but as the guy said it will take someone in the baby room leaving for us to get a place there... and all the other places are saying the same thing. Eep.
We're in for another camp out on the lounge room floor tonight unless a cool change comes through...
I've never heard of those ones - but there are so many it's not surprising really.
I've splashed out on some patterned minky PUL to make some nice ones for myself. (er, I mean for DD)
How did Pip's first day go? We can certainly tell when DD needs to poo, she gets quite twitchy and strains a bit - doesn't seem to be i pain or anything, it's just a big deal.
PP - yay on cloth bums!!!! with snapons, they are easy to use, i find with pockets that the PUL tends to catch on my nails and rings when i insert them. have a look at widdlewuns for gorgeous show-off nappies!!!!

Pip enjoyed his first day, but decided he was a big boy and wouldn't hold my hand to cross the road to the car after, when i grabbed him to stop him running across the road he bit me and i now have a huge, huge bruise and red lump from him on my wrist
will's gorgeous, now needing burping after boobymilk!!! YAY!!! and in 00's for his body length!!!! OH, and I had a squirting nipple after he pulled of the other day, just one duct but hey, I felt so good!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kaz so good that Pip wants to do things for his brother like help him read a book. It's the best thing seeing them interact with eachother. As long as no arguing is involved, you won't have to worry about that for a year or two yet I have family up in Rocky also!! 00's already!! He must be going to be a tall little man. Oh it sounds as if you are having similar troubles with your big boy. I had Aidan in his pj's and in his room just after 6pm tonight, so sick of the way he is talking to me and everyone else in the house.
PP Millie sounds like she is doing great, it can be so difficult in the heat. I'm sure the feeds will even out to suit both of you soon. I've tried the 'dream feed' before i head off to bed and it hasn't worked, Harper hasn't wanted to wake for it at all. Enjoy camping out with the air-con. PP i think i might get a wrap me up for my girlfriend who is about to have her 1st in April. Have fun with the cloth. I use flat terry squares with nappy covers and mainly pockets. I hope you get Millie into the cc you want.
MadB, the swaddle really is a great invention isn't it!? I also got a medium and looked at the light weight version but decided to just try the normal one, wearing just the singlet and having sheets and/or blankets when necessary is working well for us. When i saw the photo in PP's fb i thought i'd try it because Harpers does like to be wrapped but the muslin was just ending up all over the place. Ohh i have a long way to go to reach your post mark!! Are cloth nappies easy enough to sew? I have seen a few patterns online but not sure if i'm expereinced enough to attempt them.
Jules i hope Jacob will calm for you in the next week or so and you can get your sleeps back to the way they were. Before zantac we were feeding quite frequently but once she was on that she was much more comfortable and able to sleep for much longer periods of time and therefore go longer between feeds. I hope your family and friends stay safe, what is mother nature putting us through this year??? The first lot of immu's are the worst (for us mums), i know i had a few tears and felt so terrible for Aidan when he had his. I had his gorgeous little face looking up at me and i felt so bad because i knew what was coming and he didn't. It does get easier

Harper is great, on Monday night we did have a bit of an off night but i think it was my fault, i had a small alcoholic drink the night before and there was lots of swallowing and uncomfortableness going on but thankfully it was only Monday night. Her pooey botts are still quite infrequent but she doesn't seem to have too much trouble when she needs to go. The other day she filled her nappy when we were out and she had white pants on, i was a little nervous considering the time inbetween but thankfully there were no blowouts. We really are having a difficult time with Aidan right now and i'm not too sure what to do. I'm going to begin with doing my best to pay a little more attention to him and see if that helps. Unfortunately (bad mum guilt here) i haven't been doing a lot with him lately as my time is soooo stretched but i need to try because his behaviour is disgusting and i just don't want to argue with a 4 year old anymore. He gets so angry and frustrated but at the same time is really too young to reason with. We've tried the money box and saving the coins but it has no effect in stopping a tantrum if one is about to begin. I just want my beautiful boy back.
So that's pretty much it i think, we're off to the osteo tomorrow and that may be able to be our last appt because Harper is really doing well. She's so gorgeous and happy now and focusing on us which is so much more than what she was doing a couple of weeks ago. Now to just see a really convincing smile and i'll be happy. My mum and Peter thinks she's done one for them but i'm yet to be convinced. She's hiding them from me.
PP - how did your family go in Cairns? I hear there are no injuries reported yet so I take it they are safe, I hope they were also lucky enough to have no damage. Hope you're having fun with the cloth nappies, I wish I had the energy! We travel far too much to use them! Hope it's a little cooler there for you, I hear you're in for some rain!

EJ - Glad to hear Harper's little hiccup only lasted a day! How wonderful. That's no good on Aidan, I hope he starts behaving soon, it must be difficult enough without having to deal with tantrums. He'll come round soon I'm sure. You're definately getting tested on patience and I think you're passing with flying colours!!
AFU - Jacob was a little unsettled yesterday afternoon after his needles but is better today. I'm hoping Zantac kicks in soon so we can start stretching feeds a little! I won't be online for a few days, we're headed down to Toowoomba. When we come back we'll probably go up north to check on our house and how it went through the cyclone, but reports so far is that it all went good. Thanks for your well wishes for my family - they all faired well, they said it was very frightening but the damage was minimal. My nephew slept through the whole thing!! Gosh I can only hope that Jacob is that good a sleeper one day!! (Brayden is 20 months old though..)

Hey girlies, sounds like I have missed a lot. I have been spending a lot of my internet time researching (and buying!) cloth nappies and constipation remedies for my little bub, who doesn’t seem to be able to poo without our assistance. He strains and strains and his wind smells something awful, but he just doesn’t poo. A friend suggested coloxyl drops, but I’m not so keen to try them because they have alcohol and caramel/chocolate flavourings in them. I haven’t yet tried sugar water, or prune juice/water but we do tummy rubbing/leg moving and it doesn’t seem to make any difference. It obviously affects him because he gets super grouchy after a few days. Surely I shouldn’t have to help him poo every time? Someone mentioned dairy – is my intake of dairy making him constipated? I give him a formula feed at 10pm because a friend said it should make him sleep longer, but I’m not so sure it does. Interestingly on the constipation issue, he is currently on S26 (the normal one, not the gold because I heard the gold one bunged them up), so maybe I’ll try another one.
A friend lent me a Bubbaroo swaddle and it is wonderful, Connor used to be able to get out of even the tightest muslin swaddle, but the Bubbaroo allows him to move his arms and legs, but not hit himself in the face and wake himself up. His feeding/sleeping has changed a bit in the last week or so, he seems to be settling himself into more of a routine, or it may just be that I’ve started keeping note of his waking/feeding/sleeping times so I’ve actually noticed a pattern. He will quite happily sleep well past 8am which is great for me, but I noticed his bedtime was getting later and later so I’ve started gently waking him at 8am and now he goes to sleep earlier. Sometimes he will go straight to sleep and other times he will fuss and grumble for up to 45mins before settling. I was doing a 10.30pm feed and he then wakes up about 2-3am, 5am, 6.30am, but I think I might just go back to feeding him when he wakes up and see if that stretches the night out a bit.
One thing I have done for the last few days which has made the evenings much more manageable on my own is to cook my dinner at lunchtime, so once Connor is in bed and before he starts crying again I can quickly microwave it and scoff it down, so that I am not too hungry when I am dealing with him.
Well our mummy’s group organised by the CHN has still not started. I am desperate to meet some other mums in my area. My parents went back to the UK over the weekend, and DH has been on afternoon/evening shifts this week, and I am feeling increasingly isolated and quite tearful because I really only have two friends nearby with children, and they are not littlies and they have their own lives. I skyped my parents today and I so wanted to appear strong in front of them, but I broke down in tears and so my mum started crying. I miss them so much and the only person I have to talk to all day is my little bub, who is gorgeous but not so chatty in ways that I can understand. Sorry to dump this all on you ladies but maybe I am just overtired and emotional. Mum is sending me some MCNs so at least I have that to look forward to, and DH’s family are arriving in about 6 weeks for a 3 week holiday so that will be nice (for a while!).
Well I’m off to eat some late night ice cream and then to bed.

Howdy ho! We're going great guns here. Eden has been a wonderful baby. Sleeping all morning, some awake time in the afternoons and his unsettled time is around dinner which has been a challenge cause DH is on night shift so he's sleeping around that time while i'm trying to cook, clean, feed & bath DS1. The dummy has been my friend at this time of the evening. Though last night he was pretty good but wouldn't wake for his last feed. I managed to get him to take some, just not as much as he normally does. I thought this would mean a wake up during the night, but nope. I woke him at 5.15am. DS1 woke at 5am. Luckily for my early morning insomnia I was awake anyway
Eden is having his immunisation today and we are heading to sydney tomorrow for a week. Fingers crossed he's ok from the shots and not too unsettled while we're away. So his first plane trip. Wish me luck!
