EJ, I got the Stay-dry Quick Dry ones and a couple of the bamboo charcoal. The bamboo charcoal is SUCH nice fabric and as it's pretty lightweight it dries quicker than most bamboo ones. The insert takes ages to dry but next time I'll buy extra microfibre inserts and use those instead. The transition to cloth has been pretty easy really.
Transition back to the old formula hasn't been so easy and I think we're going to have to go back to AR... Millie has basically taken enough from each bottle to curb her hunger then actively refused anymore. (Awesome that she's so dextrous and able to use her hands... but man it's frustrating trying to ger her to eat enough!) I tried her back on Gaviscon, but it's not so much the acid as the reflux itself that seems to bug her. Can't say I blame her - it's a completely unpleasant sensation.
Today is the last day to get the paperwork to the family assistance office to be assessed for the baby bonus etc and despite two weeks of gentle nagging (which I HATE doing) DH still hasn't given me a payslip. He promised to scan one and email it to me as soon as he got to work this morning... still waiting. And of course it's a morning I'm desparate to get out of the house and Millie is being a right germ... probably because she's HUNGRY! But she won't eat properly til I get the AR, which I can't do til I get out of the house, which I can't do til I have the damn payslip!!! RARGH!

Hope you're all having a good weekend :) Miss Millie is very happy back on AR! Such a chirpy bird now, no more refusing feeds :dance: I've had a quiet one. Left Amelia with DH yesterday, went for a massage - best $30 I've forked out in a looong time, my back had been so sore - then did the groceries (suspect the dodgy trolley did my back a disservice but oh well, we needed food!). I've been looking after both Millie and DH - he's caught the bug I had last week. He's really unwell - sweaty and croaky - but still went out for his team's first trial game this afternoon. *sigh* I hope he's okay out in the sun!
A few people in my mothers' group are starting their bubs on solids. Um? (They're all 4 months or younger.) What is everyone's experience here? I won't be starting Amelia for awhile, and she doesn't seem that interested in our food at all yet.

gosh. Our MCHN hasn't even done us a mothers' group yet!!!! PP, that's great you got some quality "me" time!!!!! Solids ... my MCHN was saying the guidelines have changed again, and 4 months is OK. Having said that, this time around I'm going to be doing it differently, cause it caused me a lot of anxiety with Pip. If you're eating, and your bub is starting to show an interest in what you're eating, then it's a good time to introduce solids. You'll see it when Milly's ready - she'll track your food to your mouth, and open her mouth on the way.
You can start with pretty much anything that's bland - as long as you stay away from known difficult foods - eg egg / dairy / tomato / pineapple / strawberries / nuts for a little while. All you have to do is give her a taste, it generally takes about 3 tastes of anything before they'll accept it!
AFU - we head off to Qld tomorrow and return around March 1, so I won't be online as much. Pip's already about half-way there on the plane (hopefully) and Trev / Will, 2 dogs & I will head off tomorrow morning. Unfortunately DH didn't bring in my clean, dry washing when the rain started this evening so my sheets are all wet. AND - BiG NEWS!!!! I have a sink / washer / dryer upstairs now!!!!!

PP for me with Aidan we were told not before 6 months so the day Aidan was 6 months he had farax :lol: He liked it, he was pretty ready by then.
With Charlie boy they had changed it and said from 4 months as you choose. I gave him a try around the 5.5 month mark and he was not interested, we would just end up with food everywhere but in his mouth. He just wasn't ready. At 6 months i begun to offer it more regularly but it was some time before he was actually really having solid meals as such.
I am in no rush at all with Harper i'll see how we go but i don't see myself attempting anything until the 5 or 6 month mark.
If Millie is happy on formula keep it that way as long as you can. You'll only be creating yourself more work before it's necessary :) Just my tired and don't even want to consider it yet opinion ;)
Peter has been away at the race track for 'work' this weekend and i am exhausted. I've made a great cake for Charlie boy for tomorrow's bbq. Trust it to rain :rolleyes: I hope it's gone by tomorrow. I need to go to bed early but there is so much to clean up before people come over and i haven't even attempted to do anything with the kids around.

The official guidelines for solids are the same - 6 months. But the allergy people have chagned theirs to 4-6 months. There've been rumours for years that 'they' were going to change it or had, but it hasn't actually happened (some CHNs dont' actually follow the health depts guidelines I think). The other thing that's changed is that they don't recommend delaying any foods - apparently it might actually increase the risk of allergies.
Anyway, you do it when your baby is ready to digest different food and needs it. I think a lot of new mums are very keen to start early - it's exciting to move to the next phase. But like EJ says, it's really a bit of a pain once the novelty wears off.
We'll be following baby-led solids again. When Miri's ready to eat she'll pick it up and stick it in her mouth and eat it :) Reckon it's easier than agonising over the age thing that way. Plus I really can't be arsed pureeing food or making special meals.
Miri is doing well. Still doing short naps in the day and 2-3 hour wakeups overnight... tiiiiiiiired.

MadB the cake is fantastic if i do say so myself. I'm pretty pleased with myself with this one. I'll put a photo of it up in the next day or two, have to wait for our party guests to see it tomorrow before they see it on fb :)
:lol: Could you tell i'm feeling a little tired today? I don't want to even think about adding puree foods into my routine yet. Too much to handle already.
Harper had a great day today, two big sleeps and a little one before pj's and massage then a little one and a top up feed and fell asleep on the bb. She's pretty much out of 000's now and i have put her in the med size baby beehinds also, her and Charlie are in the same nappies :o Charlie boy is a skinny bub but almost grown out of the med size now. Need to stock up on a few more larges for him. Harper has been really fussy at feeding lately, her night feeds are good feeds with constant sucking but some of her day ones are so erratic, she's on off on off the whole time.
We went to Moomba on Friday night which was great, such a beautiful night to be out and the kids loved it. We mainly just hung around the rides area and saw a little bit of water skiing but we mainly just wanted to go for the kids. Harper was great and was in her hugabub the whole time. I've been carrying her front facing lately and she loves it and then when it got time for her to sleep i just turned her around. The last 15 min of the car ride home she screamed as she was so overtired and then i had an extremely grumpy beside herself little lady to try and get to sleep. I wouldn't want to do that too often. But it really was a great night.
PP my DH has been quite sick also, he's had terrible headaches which pretty much means it's sinus which he sufferes from but he too was sweating. I would wake up in the night and he is dripping wet. He's a hot sleeper but this is wayyyy more than just being a bit hot. Hope they both get better soon.
Kaz enjoy qld and when you get back i'm sure you'll have heaps of washing to do and you can get lots of use out of your new laundry. Sounds like the renos are really coming along. Good for you :D

Do you find it comfortable carrying her facing out? I haven't done it with DD yet, I'm not sure her head control is quite good enough, but maybe soon. I can't wait till she can go in the ergo :)
We're planning a camping trip for May. Just got to figure out exactly where we're going to go and how long it woudl be ok to travel. EJ, what's the furthest you'd go in one day?

She's doing really well front facing MadB, i'm very careful and i think as long as it's calm and no sudden movements she's very comfortable and supported. She's a strong little lady, holding her neck up quite well. Doesn't like laying back in our arms anymore either, she's constantly trying to pull herself up into a sitting position.
Our trips around home during the week aren't anymore than half an hour really MadB and they can be great or they can be screamers if she's tired/hungry or a bit grumpy. She's not the traveller the boys were. In April we are actually going away camping also and we'll be heading to Meribula which is almost 7hours away i'm told (never been there myself yet). So i'm really quite nervous about that, we were talking about me and Harper flying but not sure it's worth the airfare (almost $300 there and back). We'll probably leave really early in the morning so the kids sleep the whole way there, i just hope that works because the state Harper got herself in the other night was not pleasent.

Hey ladies!!
Been a while since I last posted, I’m still up north at mum and dads. DH is getting a lift as far as Bowen tomorrow and I’m driving down to pick him up. Hopefully the rain that seems to be hanging around doesn’t flood as we’re missing each other and there’s so many new things Jacob is doing that I just can’t wait to have him around his boy again!
PP – How’s Millie doing? That’s great news about the formula! I’m glad she’s getting some relief. Did you sort out your paperwork? I didn’t know you had to have your baby bonus paperwork in that early!! Solids...gosh, definitely not ready for that yet.
EJ – How’s Miss Harper going? Sounds like she’s been a little social butterfly lately! I agree with your opinion on solids – can’t be bothered just yet!!! And I only have one child…how slack am I!!! How did Charlie’s birthday bbq go? I hope he had a great time! Jacob’s feeding is a little fussy through the day at the moment, not sure what’s going on there! Hope Harper has eased back into the swing of things.
MadB – A trip in May will be nice! Jacob is a really good traveller so far, it takes us just over 7 hours to get up north to my parents and we do it every few weeks or even once a month lately so he’s becoming a bit of a pro. Depending how frequent their feeds are I guess…thankfully he’s stretching to about three hours now so it makes the trip so much quicker!! How’s Miri doing? Still keeping you up at night?
Kaz – I’m a little late to wish you good luck for your trip, how did it go?? I hope Will went ok? I’m sure Pip would have loved his time on the plane!! Did he end up flying with your parents? Great news on the appliances!!! You won’t know yourself!! How’s Will doing otherwise?
AFU – We’re doing well. Things have been busy up here, loads of visiting. We had the Tupperware party (bridal shower for my almost SIL :) ) It was lovely, and Jacob was a little bit of a spotlight stealer, he was loving all the attention from the ladies, was very patient with all the cuddles, even if he did look for his mummy when someone new had him :) His reflux has been under control for the most part and he was doing consistent three hourly feeds but has been a little off the last few days, but I think it’s just due to all the travelling/visiting etc. Poor little fella hasn’t had a break!!

Oh Lord... just put Millie in her first 00 suit! :o The MCN made it necessary but she was headed that way anyway, she has such a long body! *sigh* she's growing up so fast. MadB, This is one new Mum who's not anxious to start solids... I picked up a packet of rice cereal in the shops the other day... then put it back. She's in no hurry and nor am I! Thanks everyone for your advice and experience!
Kaz, enjoy your trip! I hope everyone got there safely. Glad to hear that you have a fully equipped laundry! Almost a shame you're not at home to enjoy it :) but it will prolong the "newness"!
EJ, I hope your DH is better? Mine didn't need to sleep on towels last night, but was still very hot, and he had a terrible cough. Bad enough that he took today off. It was no good that he was sick but we had a nice chilled out family day. He's feeling a lot better for the rest. Awesome that you got out to Moomba! I think our first big family outing will be the Royal Easter Show. I was juuuust pregnant last year and felt very, very ordinary, so am looking forward to enjoying it more this year. DH and I finally have an excuse to go into the baby animal nursery!!! Not that it ever stopped us before, but at least now people won't be giving us weird, "where the heck are your kids" looks :lol:
Jules, great to hear from you! Glad you're enjoying time with family and friends :) Oh, I think you have a certain number of weeks (is it 26 or 52? I forget) to lodge the claim for the baby bonus etc, but once you lodge the claim you have 2 weeks to lodge any supporting paperwork, for eg, payslips! We'd already had that period lapse a couple of times, I had no intention of letting it lapse again!
Millie has just done a full 36 hours in cloth, so I'm pretty chuffed about that. Feeling confident putting her in them overnight and taking her out in them too. I've finally sorted out how to do up the cheapie ones DH bought off eBay before she was born, so that's good - they have nice patterns so I really wanted to use them. I found some microfibre cloths at Lincraft for $2 for a pack of 2, so I got 5 packs. Will go back and get more, they are soft and light! It's a serious addiction now...:rolleyes:

Jacob is starting to go into some 00's now, so scary considering that three months ago he was in 00000!!!! It has just flown by hasn't it? That's great work on the MCNs! Nice work!! I kind of regret not giving them a go. I've heard it's addictive from so many people!! One of my friends from school has her son in then and has given me the full rundown on them!! :lol: did you buy all of yours brand new?
Anyone elses bubs trying to munch on their hand and sticking their fingers into their gums? Jacob has been fairly jamming his fist right in there! And drooling quite a lot!

Hi girls... I've just been too busy to log on, with work & visitors, DS1 & DH getting gastro etc etc..... I haven't had time to read but I need some help.
Eden is refusing his feeds. He's just not hungry. His evening/night feeds are better but his morning are shocking. He literally screams when he goes near the breast. I am forcing him to feed which I know is not good but I'm desperate for him to have his milk. I took him to the clinic on Tuesday and he's 6.1kgs which puts him in the 50th percentile. I know that's ok, but he was at the 75th percentile at 7 weeks so he's not putting on weight like he should be. I am expressing before his morning feeds so the flow isn't so fire hydrant like (which really upsets him). He's happy to suckle, but the second I have a let down, he pulls off screaming. Any idea/suggestions? I will make a new post in the breastfeeding section as soon as I get the chance and put it out there to all of BB.
I've gotta run now, but i'll definately try to get back sometime today. I hope you're all doing well

Yup Jules I bought mine brand new. If you're interested, it's easy enough to switch over. It's probably worth getting a couple second hand or buying a trial pack or something as different brands and styles seem to fit different bubs. A friend of mine swears by peapods, but they don't suit Millie at all. The trial pack from babybeehinds was good value and meant that I could try out different styles and see what was easiest to wash, dry etc.
Millie has been trying to stuff her whole fist into her mouth for awhile now. Lots of slurping and drool! She will quite happily suck on her fingers in the car which is good, keeps her amused for ages :)
I've been up since 3.30 this morning. Millie had a good feed, pulled faces at me for a bit, then went back to sleep, but I couldn't go back to sleep. Man, I've been up for 5 hours already. Blah!

Heys Jules - yeps, Will's putting his hand in his mouth, bought him a teething ring yesterday. Pretty sure I saw his teeth coming through and felt a little hard bite.
Travel was good, Will was a bit over it with only 100km to go, but that was likely my fault (or DH's) for not changing his nappy at the feed stop. Sorry, no other persies, I'm trying to keep Pip amused.

Georgi, DS did the same at that age. Try not to worry about the weight gains too much (he's still gaining, right?) - how are the nappies looking, still plenty of wet ones? I forced DS too and ended up with breast refusal during the day. They're so distracted they want to be doing other things and don't want to spend time feeding. Nights are often fine and they'll make up the difference then. I know it's hard, but forcing is the worst thing to do. have yuo tried feeding in a quiet darkened room during the day? Maybe he's not very hungry in th emornign if he's had milk overnight? I hope it passes soon.

Sorry Georgi, you posted while I was writing. Good to hear from you, but sorry you're having a rough time with illnesses and feeding :( No wisdom here, but I tend to agree with MadB. Now that we've sorted out her formula Millie's evening and early morning feeds are way better than day feeds - she's too "busy" during the day.

I'm so tired... just having a quiet day with my girl. She's a bit sooky so we're having lots of cuddles. Suits me fine :)

yay Cathie!!!! Dad got huge giggles from Will on Sunday at home, it looks like only grandpa can set him off at the moment!!!! Very hot for little boy and baby boy up here, plus he has a snotty nose and I left the de-snotifier at home - guess it's back to the old-fashioned way of clearing baby noses!!!!
Cathie, I take my hat off to you!!!!! I was taking Pip to the loo and there was a lady bottle-feeding a 6-week bub there, while her older boy was in the toilet. Toilet door opens, 3-yr-old boy is totally nekkid and asks his mum for help - she says to me "can you look after this for me" and hands me the baby, the bottle and a spew rag while she was looking after nekkid boy. Then I hear a squawk and there's another one in the pram! so for abount 5 mins (if that) I had Pip and twin girls - Pip running around playing, feeding one and rocking the other with my foot. I don't think I'd cope with 2. That'd be waaaaay too much for me!
Well my aunt's birthday is tomorrow (80th) so I'm making choc-mint brownies, they have to refrigerate overnight. Plus some lactation cookies (brought my flaxseed and brewers' yeast up from melbourne) and some choc raspberry tartlets. Tonight's mum's making a raspberry sponge (from new idea) and we'll buy some stuff for a fruit punch. YUM!
