Good news about the skin EJ,. I hope it's comfortable for you soon. Poor little Harper! You made a good call taking her in like that I think. Hope she's better soon too

In fact, I hope everyone and their babies are well soon! Is anyone not sick?
Miri has a runny nose again. It's not bad, just a bit runny.

Ew Charlotte! That sounds really bad.

Yesterday we went out to lunch and DD was swiping at everything as usual so I gave her some bread to play with. She chewed and sucked on it very happily She may have swallowed some, can't say for sure. She was just as interested in chewing the table and plates though (not to mention the serviettes of course)

Yay on the treatment EJ!!! it gives you some relief. Glad it's a one-off thing ... poor Charlie finger How's Harper today? It was the best thing to do - did Charlie go with you?

MadB - oooh that's great, are they the first solids?

Crumpet ... it gets worse ...

Us - well he's rolling over now, trying to crawl. Vaporiser helping.

Oooh, remember peeps, if you ever need to call an ambulance for the babies, try to say that they are having trouble breathing, it puts you at the top of the priority list.

Hannah is basically back to normal. She was sooo hyper today tho. She always is when DP is home!! Then she's a rat for me when he's working! Its so nice to have him home for a few days. He generally works 10 days on (7.30am to 5pm) and then 4 days off. I love the 4 days, but I miss him horribly when he goes back to work.

Hannah had 2 big (well, normal lol) sleeps today of 2 1/2 hours. Then she went to bed at 6.30. She's just been such an angel today. A hyper angel.....
I can't believe on Friday she'll be 6 months old!! It seems like we've been home for ages, but I remember every single day of the Royal Children's Hospital and Bendigo Special Care like it was yesterday. I remember the smell of the hospital, the 'germ-gel' that we had to put on our hands a hundred times a day. I remember the smell of our room in Ronald Mac House. Where everything in the kitchen was in Ronald Mac lol, being in the Royal Women's and getting DP to push me down to the Children's 4 times (2 blocks) in a wheelchair. Aparently it was so hard (I'm only 63kg!!) that he had to get his cousin to push me partway back.

    Ahhh, memories....
    glad she is feeling better!

dont u love looking back on the memories!! i loved my time in hospital, well until DD was admitted to SCN

It's great when they love their food Crumpet, i can't get over Harper's perfect chewing motion already. They are just too perfect aren't they!?

Well it's been a crazy few days... It wasn't easy but i got into the specialist on Friday and it turns out i've been going crazy over eczema!!!

So that was all good... Then Saturday we had a few dramas, Charlie boy squashed his finger in a keyboard stand. It was so out of shape when i got to him, it slowly got it's shape back and then went really fat He's ok though... Harper woke up with a slight barky cough that day but was fine, she fed, slept and was her happy little self. I was going to take her to the drs but they had no appts and honestly she was fine so i never thought again about taking her to the medicentre at the hospital. She went to bed then at 11:30pm she woke up crying coughing (or should i say barking) and gasping for air. I knew i had to get her to the dr and i couldn't just wait till morning but in the state she was i didn't want to drive with her by myself if she was going to cry in the car and get distressed and struggle to breath. So i called an ambulance. It was a split second decision that i just knew was the right one considering the options. She was ok when she was calm (although wheezing) and in my arms but if she started to work herself up it would get pretty nasty. So her and i went off to emercency for a few hours. They say it's croup and after a rest and some prediscilone (sp??) we got home about 4am i think. She's ok, slept and ate today, i've put the vapouriser in her room tonight to keep the air a little more moist and if i have to she can just sleep with us again. She is a lot better, she has to have one more dose of prediscilone tomorrow and then just get better on her own.
its unreal how much fun she is now! such a perfect little princess!

yayyyy!!!! so glad u finally have a answer hun!!

    ouch poor charlie!

poor harper hope she is feeling better!

    Just a quick message!!

CRUMPET -- BEWARE!! Beware of the yogurt!! It makes the most disgusting nappies you've ever seen!! I nearly vomited this morning. It smelt like cat poo!! (tmi)

Oh. My. God. It was so disgusting.
    OMG thats hilarious!!

think i might wait on the yoghurt introduction!

In fact, I hope everyone and their babies are well soon! Is anyone not sick?
we are actually both well! for now

Crumpet ... it gets worse ...

Oooh, remember peeps, if you ever need to call an ambulance for the babies, try to say that they are having trouble breathing, it puts you at the top of the priority list.
    great! lol.....

oh thats a good tip thanks hun!

on calling an ambulance, ive never had to call one, how would i know that i need a ambulance for Summah if she was sick?
i feel so silly asking but i really have no idea!

AF: all is going well here, cruising along nicely!

its so cold and wet in melb today so i think ill be giving mothers group a miss again this week!

we ordered new carpet on the weekend so thats coming next week! cant wait, it will be nice not having to worry about summah wriggling off her blanket and sucking on old dusty carpet

have got her amber bracelt and necklace ready for teething so bring on the teeth i say!

    hi ladies,

Charlotte - I'm glad Hannah is feeling better.
EJ - Poor charlie boy... I hope Harper is feeling better, poor you and hubby there is nothing worse than having a sick little bubba.
madB - Charlie is grabbing everything, his grabbing whatever he can he just loves the kids hair.
Kaz - Hi how are you?
    PP - How's little Millie ? It's been cold.
Jules - My tribe is going well, Charlie still has a cough and we all have runny noses but it's winter and things go through our house so quickly.

Well it's sunny so lets see if I get any washing dry today, with 8 of us it's soo hard to get anything dry during winter. Not much going on in my house.
    Have a great day ladies.

EJ - FINALLY!!!! So glad you have found out what you're dealing with! Hope you can recover quickly now and NEVER have to go through that again!! Poor Charlie and Harper!! What a few weeks you've had lately. Hope things ease up for you now!

Crumpet - Glad to hear things are going well with Summah, she sounds so sweet. That's great she's loving solids! It's so much fun isn't it

MadB - No sickness here *touch wood*.... How's your sleep going? Hope you're getting some decent stretches at night!!

Kaz - Yay for rolling, what a clever little man! He'll be crawling now in no time!!

Charlotte - I loved hearing about your memories... time just flies doesn't it... That's so cute Hannah is hyper when DP is home. Jacob gets really excited when DH is home too. He works a roster very similar... four on four off five on five off.... but he is away from home for 13.5 hours each shift so he's barely here when he's on days on Glad Hannah is enjoying her solids too, what a cutie!!

Cathie - Sorry to hear Charlie boy is still unwell, and that everyone else is suffering with runny noses, this weather is such a downer...everyone is getting unwell! Hope you're all feeling better very soon. You should buy shares in kleenex

Audax - nice to hear from you, how did the wedding go?? Hope DD doesn't get a cold!! No more sickness please!

PP - So happy to hear that Millie is feeling better, not long till the trip now!! I'm guessing you're busy packing by now!!

AFU - We're doing great...Jacob is loving solids more every day and has been going longer at night with his sleep which is so wonderful. He's so fun, he is always bouncing around and just loves music. He even has this new excited sound he makes now that is hilarious. Couldn't ask for a happier baby really. His day sleeps are pretty much the same, sleeps for about an hour at a time. I have a friend that is very well meaning but is telling me I need to let him cry and self settle back to sleep. Thing is, he CAN self settle - he always does it. But he's just NOT tired. He doesn't even cry, he just talks and talks and talks until I go in and get him. I just can't make a strict routine work for us cause we're always going away. Different if I could be home all the time like she is, but we need him to be flexible and he is so I'm happy with how things are. I have to stop doubting myself. It made me feel like a really bad mum, cause apparantly they 'like' their routines. But then I look at him and he's just so happy, I don't think he's suffering!

Anyway, enough rambling. Hope you're all well xox

Jules, seriously, you're doing fine. Jacob is wonderful and thriving. Flexibility is great. I would much rather be flexible about everything than in some rigid routine - that would never work for me. You're both happy, so everything is good!

Thanks MadB, I feel that I'm doing fine too, I think it was more her telling me that he'll never learn to sleep through the night if I don't change things..but he only wakes once now anyway...

Jules got 3 monsters climbing all over me right now but.....

I love a routine but my routine isn't set in stone especially with Harper, i think it's about having something that works for you and for your little man. Days change and flexability is great because then we don't have to get up tight about things when they don't go our way (which can happen often as we all would know). I'm prety sure from what you say Jacob and Harper are very similar and if she wants to sleep more than an hour she does resettle herself and do it quite happily but some days (most days) she just doesn't and i'm ok with that. My routine is more so about the order she feeds, plays and sleeps in and that's it.

You could never be a bad mum, Jacob is a healthy, happy and content little boy and that's all that matters

Jules -- Looking at the lastest pics of Jacob, I can honestly say there is nothing wrong with your parenting. He appears to be a very happy little man (with incredible eyes!). You're doing an awesome job! DP is gone from 7.30 til 5ish. When he works weekends he tends to work a bit later, so its hard. Especially when Hannah is having a rough day, I can't talk to him as he doesn't get mobile reception at work. Occationally he radios me, but I can't radio him.

Crumpet - I'm thinking that maybe it wasn't the yogurt that cause Hannah's disgusting nappies, as she did another one this morning. I'm thinking its just her body adjusting to the 6mo formula. We ran out of newborn, so had to move her up to 6mo, but only a week early.

Hannah's routine is relaxing as she is changing her sleep patterns. She's up for about 2 hours at a time now, not one hour. And sleeping for 1-3 hours.
I'm learning to relax and just go with what she wants, because I was so rigid with her patterns. She's sleeping alot better now that I've relaxed.
Although yesterday she was awake from 7am-9am. 10.30am to 6pm. Yes. I put her to bed at 12.30 (I was at my mums), and after an hour of her crying I came home and put her into her own bed. She stayed in bed for 2 hours (I checked on her a bit) just quietly talking and 'resting' in bed. No sleeping. Just resting.

    That was something different!!

I think some predictability and familiar patterns are helpful for young children, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to time everything to the second. Like Hannah, most babies change their internal rythyms (or routines if you like) pretty frequently in any case.

That must be hard, having your DH away so much.

Hi all! Sorry, it has been awhile!

Jules, I echo MadB's pfffft. My mummy mantra is, if it's not a problem for us, then it's not a problem at all. Other people are free to have their opinion but you know what? We're free to raise our children the way we see fit. Sounds like Jacob is thriving and happy, and as you say you have to suit your lifestyle!

Hi Cathie, yes it's fricking freezing. *shiver* Millie is sooooo much better, it's awesome to see her smiling and playing again. And having spent so much time sitting on my lap over the past fortnight, she is almost sitting on her own now

    Crumpet, ooo, new carpet!

Kaz, thanks for the tip, and great news on the rolling and crawl attempts!

MadB, glad Miri liked her bread (and plates etc )

EJ so glad you have an answer and some treatment! I hope Charlie and Harper are okay.

Charlotte, great that Hannah has adjusted to her cot okay! DH made Millie's cot look like a SIDS prevention poster

Audax, good to see you! Hope you're doing well.

Argh, I have so much to catch up on... Millie has just started squealing (one of her new "things") so I better go... bbl for more!

Well, Millie drained her bottle and immediately started rubbing her eyes and pulling her ears, so she's back in bed already!

So, where to start... Millie is so much better. She still has a bit of a cough, but it is all loosening up and she hasn't needed ventolin in about 36 hours. She's smiling and playing again, and is really experimenting with her voice. Lots of squeals! We saw the cardiologist on Friday, AWESOME news: one hole has completely closed and the other is nearly there He doesn't even want to see her for follow up before she starts school!! So chuffed. She went to her first kid's b'day party on Saturday. She wore her superbaby outfit, so cute

MadB, you asked about the job application... I had an interview this morning! It went pretty well, but now I'm just waiting to hear. They said I'd hear by the end of the day... helloooooo, it's 4.45! Get on with it! I had a great preparation for it: Millie slept through AND... I was having a "skinny" day so I tried on a pre-preg suit... and it fit! So rather than going in pants and a loose top I was in a dress suit and heels!

Slowly getting ready for the trip. The cat hates me as she has been vaccinated and flea treated prior to going into boarding. There's piles of travel-related stuff on the floor of my sewing room - just need to write some lists and figure out how to pack for 5 weeks o/s with an infant...

Oh, other big news, I finished my challenge quilt! I didn't think I'd get it done as Millie was sick, but the deadline was extended! My first queen size quilt

Meh, she's squeaking and carrying on again. Make up your mind little girl!

Thanks girls, it's nice to know you're all on the same page as me!! We do have a basic routine, but I just don't force sleep on him the way she's telling me to. I'm just going to continue with my way cause it's what has always worked for us

Charlotte - I SO hear you on not being able to talk to your DP. DH works underground in a mine and to talk to him I have to call comms office and tell them his ped number and get them to send him a message underground and tell him to call me. It's so much hassle and I don't like doing it so I only ring for emergencies. It sucks that when we're having a bad day here I can't talk to him. And my family lives six hours away so I find it hard sometimes with no support.

PP - AWESOME news on Millie's heart check up!!! WOOHOO! Congrats on finishing your quilt, all while raising a little bub....unreal work! Sounds like you were dressed to impress for your interview, that's excellent it went so well! I don't envy you with packing for a five week holiday overseas with a baby...I find it difficult packing just to go back and visit my family!! I end up with so many clothes that don't get worn (both mine and his) and the car is always packed to the max!

Gotta go, hope everyone else is well. xox

Cathie good to hear that Charlie is liking his food. Hope those sniffles are gone for good very soon. Harper has just woken up all congested, we're not over the illness just yet either.

MadB sounds like Miri is loving exploring with her mouth. Not sure about the surviette though

Kaz i'm definatley getting some relief now which is so exciting. The bb area is the best it's been in weeks i almost not dreading looking at myself. I did end up with thrush after all the mess of what was going on but i think we're under control with that, i had all the meds so just started taking them again and all seems pretty good. Harper's pretty good today, not sleeping the best at a time when her little body could probably do with it. What's the bet she'll want to tomorrow when it's time to take Aidan to Kinder!? Charlie didn't have to come to emergency with us but my gosh i think he was trying to Hope the boys are good and work is treating you well.

Crumpet calling the ambulance was just a split second decision that i decided was the right thing to do. I've done it a few times at work when there were car accidents out the front so i knew what to expect. I'm a pretty calm person but was panicing at the same time. It all happened in a matter of minutes really from Harper waking, seeing her coughing and gasping for breath, knowing i couldn't get her to the hospital on my own but it being necessary for her to go so i called an ambulance. It was instinct i suppose, if the time ever comes for you (hopefuly it doesn't) but if it does just stay calm and just trust yourself to do the right thing.

Like Kaz said with the reason for our call we ended up having an ambulance come to us that wasn't even from our area (there's a base just down the road) because they were all busy.

Going to have to catch up more later ladies. My little one isn't feeling too good, will try catch up tomorrow

hooray for finishing your quilt and your skinny day PP! Did you hear back after all?
Oh and for Millie's heart too!

We went to the local school today to put DS' name down for kindy next year. eeeeek! He's growing up
