Babies Born December 2007 #22

Lori, we are going to put the tree behind a barrier so Olivia can't destroy it. I think it will save my sanity too as I won't have to constantly say 'NO' all th time. I am putting off doing our tree until after Olivia's birthday on the 4th. We have decided that will be our new tradition - tree goes up the weekend after Olivia's birthday. I wan ther to feel like her birthday and Christmas are seperate things. My BIL has a December birthday and he always said he felt like his birthday wasn't special, though his family are more than a little weird...

LOL - Lori i had to laugh.. I m soooo excited for chrissy too, and ive been hunting for our tree but mums hubby left it at the old house so i brought one yesterday and im NOT allowed to put it up till the 1st Dec ALSO!! LOL ahhhh :( not happy hehe
Yes, using our playpen here too! ill take it down when he wakes chrissy day to get to the presents then put it back again i think - it usually stays up till FEB!! PML! -maybe not a good idea this yr.

Its VERY exciting i get chrissy this year. Last yr because of the c/sect I sat in hospital all alone on christmas while all my family had a big breaky, lunch and dinner together! Most of the ward was empty too cos everyone had gone home too but i was way to fresh from the surgery to go home!! So yay cant wait this year!!

Lauren - I agree I am excitied too. Last year I was discharged Christmas eve but I really wasn't well enough to enjoy Christmas (in fact I don't really remember lots of it, I was on too many drugs). So this year feels like our first proper family Christmas.

Well as some of you know, I already have the tree up! My SIL had hers up on the weekend and looked fantastic so I was motivated. DH agreed which was unusual. I was going to put it in the playpen too but so far Monique hasn't touched it. She checked it out when I was putting it up and hasn't gone near it since. She points and smiles at it which is lovely and I must admit I haven't put all the decorations on it yet (it is 7.5 feet high and I'm only decorating above Monique's height just in case). I will barricade it off though if she gets too interested in it.

We were discharged from hospital on Xmas eve as well and went to SIL's house with everyone which was lovely but didn't feel like Christmas. Buzzie, I forgot you were still in hossy on xmas day. It will be so special for you this year - and us because the little ones can enjoy it.

Buzzie - did you ge the santa pic done? I don't think Monique will like Santa esp because she is so clingy.

Teena - hello! nice to see you again. I'm glad Monique isn't the only one that has popped teeth through late (or in your case not yet). It's funny because people comment that she is a slow developer but I'm glad she hasn't had teeth while still bf esp when she went through a biting phase for over a month.

Lori - how do you find swimming lessons? I'm undecided on when to send Monique. You are a good little Flybaby. I wrapped all my nieces and nephews presents and have that all done but I have only got one present for Monique so far and none for her birthday. Better get a move on I think before all the crowds hit the shops.

Best get dinner started.

Speaking of teeth - Ash cut his first top tooth today, so we have 1/2 a bottom one, 1/4 of a botton one, and a 1/8 of a little one lol looks so funny.

Tinsel - i think it would be great to start the swimming. Ash is booked in for next yr, i cant wait!! . might take him tomorrow i think.
brought him a rubber ring so he can sit on his own :)

Hi to everyone else

We went to the CHN nurse today about Olivia's weight. at 9 months on thier scales she weighed 8.5kg and today she weighed 8.6. give or take a few grams. so she has only gained 90 grams in 3 months. We have to try to get her to eat more and sleep more and go back in a month for reweigh.. She has always been sitting at the 25th percentile and now she is sitting at 10 for weight but still 25 for height and head.. It isn't a major concern as the CHN said but something to keep an eye on..

Anyways dinner time here so better go..

Just a quick one...
I had the entire family here for Xmas last year, with a two week old baby. It was a nightmare. All i wanted to do was curl up and sleep. Hoping we'll be more relaxed next year.

Tinsel- Ty loves swimming classes, he's been going for a good six months now. He gets so excited. The centre we go to is great too- I used to go to a different one but it was not very well heated and Ty kept getting sick. But it is good fun and he can 'swim' up from about 30 cms away by himself.

Nic- Ty has hardly gained any weight in the last three months either- about 150 gms I think. I'm going to take him this week and get him weighed. He is the 25th for head and height and goes between 10th and 25th for weight too. but he seems healthy enough so I don't worry about it. i think he must burn off a lot of energy and calories cruising around crawling.

Ok I'm off to actually talk to dh for a bit :D Bye!

Lori: In the last 3 months she has only gained 90 grams which is why I think they are midly concerned.. I am ok with it but we are trialing a new sleep thing.. god it is so hard.. I went and had a bath and left sImon to deal.. We did the Controlled crying.. I feel like the worlds meanest mum :( Simon went in every few minutes.. Maybe a minute maybe 3 depending on how upset she was. I think it took about 30 mins for her to go to sleep.. Well we think she is asleep..We haven't heard anything fr a bit..

She doesn't eat.. I never realised just how little she ate till I had to write it down.. sigh.. She isn't hungry though so I don't see how we are going to get 5 meals a day into her

Well off to watch some Heroes.. seriously need to catch up.. This is technically our last night of simon on holidays.. Tomorrow night we will go to bed early yada yada.. :( I love having him home and will miss him heaps on Thursday :(:( boo hoo

Nic - Sofia is the same, a small eater and such a little bubba.

Nic, Abbey is only around 9kgs too hun. Going to have her weighed on Friday. Some babies gain at a different rate, she is a little girl so more likely to be more petite than her brothers. Also bare in mind that she is walking, and I know it's just started but nonetheless she is more active. I'm not sure what you are supposed to be doing regarding her sleep, did the Dr suggest the CC ? I would think that all the extra crying would actually burn more calories on her. (if only that worked for me) Not trying to make you feel bad of course hun. Just trying to see the angle.

I can't believe that when I wake in the morning my baby is going to be 1!! Where has the last 12 months gone. It has seriously been huge for me. So many ups and sooooooo many downs. I am hoping that the next 12 are so much more positive. I think Abbey was pretty much the only good thing to come out of this last year.

Posting my birthday pressie tomorrow. So my person, fear not yours is coming. Still waiting on Abbey's though.

Sorry girls keeping it short. It's late and Abbey is still having shocking nights.

Trish: I have been thinking about Miss Abbey and the BIG 1 today.. Can't believe we are almost onto our 4th 1st birthday..

I don't know how I feel about leaving Livi to cry.. Almost every part of me says no don't do it and I think I need to listen to it.. but I don't know.. Can someone just come and do it for me.. she is only little for such a short time and I know I will feel guuilty down the track thinking would one more cuddle really hurt..

the CHN gave me a pamphlet on CC and how to go about it for different ages.. I feel so bad about how she went to sleep and feel like going in and giving her a great big hug

Ash isnt a big eater if i give him food to eat himself, eg. sandwich, pieces of meat, toast etc he'll nibble and give most of it to the dog. But if i feed him a jar of food or weetbix, he'll woof the whole thing. he has always been above 100percentile, but like everyone else, only put on a few grams in the last couple months! I think i dont have much to worry about tho. hes not fat and is very tall.

Im going to try to get Ash into see a paedatrician asap, im really not happy about his tummy, the last 3 nights hes been in soooo much pain! :(

Lauren: I just hate hearing her cry.. It either upsets me or irratates me.. This morning I put her to bed and she whined for a while.. I went and made a coffee and her breakfast and went to get her back up and she was asleep and she slept for 2 hours..

Simon wants to do the CC where I am not sure it is the right way to go ..

Anyways What are you guys getting yiur little ones for Xmas? eas for me to think about it as I have past the birthday stage already :lol:

Olivia is going to get a Tonka truck :) and prob a musical toy. She fell in love with the fisher price aquarium thing yesterday.. Was pressing the button to turn it on and resting her head against it.. Oh and she had her first shop Tantrum.. Was so funny.. We already have a FP aquarium thing for the cot but Simon wants to get her the one she was plaing with LOL.. Dads!!

Nic- Big :hug: for you. We've tried the cc on and off here- mostly when I get really desperate and dh and I are fighting because we're just so tired. I always end up giving in- we do it for a few days and quit. I don't mind leaving him if I've had enough and he's just grumbling... but in the middle of the night he used to get himself into such a hysterical sobbing state. I decided that couldn't be good for him or for me- broke my heart. But like I said, I will leave him sometimes if he is having a whinge. Sometimes it actually seems harder for him to got o sleep if I'm in the room- he'll cry for ages then as soon as I leave he's asleep in two minutes. I know how hard it is and how the srying just drives you batty after a while- especially when it's because they are very tired but just will not SLEEP!!!!!! So another big :hug: I was told by Karitane that at this age, if you are consistent with it it will start to work within about three days. They also said if it doesn't have any improvement within a week then it probably will not work and it's not worth doing it long time.
That being said, a friend of mine who used to be a BB member but hasn't been online in a long time has had fantastic success with cc and taking her bubs dummy away. Baby now sleeps through the night- 12 hours at a time- and has two big day naps, and puts herself to sleep. But it was a long hard haul for all of them and not something I think I'm personally prepared to do.

Ahhh.. that's my little bit of philophising for the morning. Hope you're all having a fabulous day :)

Well wouldn't you know it.. I think the CC is working *touch wood and all that jazz* This morning she put hwerself to sleep with very minimal crying.. then again this afternoon with just 5 minutes of whining. She didn't even scream this time. I have made the decision to try for at least 15-20 minutes to see how she goes. She was very tired though so fingers crossed it is working

I saw the new GP today, and he was just fantastic.
He felt his tummy and said it was ok no lumps or bumps, and wants a poo and wee sample.Also we're off for an xray this arvo to check for blockages.
Im soooooo happy finally someone is helping me and doesnt keep giving me the.. "yeh he'll grow out of it" spill!!!
Fingers crossed everythings is fine, or not, we will find out and i can deal with it and help Ash to get past it! Im sooo hating the pain hes in!

Hi to everyone,I haven`t had the time to get on here,I was lucky enough to get part-time work,before xmas,so i took the offer up,work my own hours which fits in well with the kids. Wow it`s so busy everywhere this time of the year,still so much i have to get done,lol. Tiger had his pre-school Orientation night on Monday and it looks like he is going to love going there,its where his sister went so we know most of the teachers which is even better. OMG what a horrendous disguting night!! I am so peeved at how bad she was I don't even want to talk to her. :( Not for 12 days did she once do this at night. not once.. She woke at 11 and was awake till 1:30 this morning. Stupid me was up till 11 and I had been awake since 4 yesterday.. Funnily enough I wasn't to tired but it was hot and I was so cranky. I think was peeved me off the most was that Simon went back to work today.. So of course I get no rest today or help last night. Poor SImon couldn't sleep either so hasnow gone to work on 4 hours sleep..

Grrr. CC didn't work. Well she wasn't crying more tossing and turning and carrying on.. Panadol cuddles nappy change booby feed water.. nope didn't work.. GRRR

anyways. I hope everyone else got a heaps better night then me. Who is the next Birthday? I don't think there is one till Decemer now is there? December 3rd or 4th maybe and is it Miss Olivia Margaret?

Thanks for the birthday wishes girls. Abbey had a great day. I got lots of pictures and we are having a little party for her on Sunday. Feel bas cos I had a huge one for Tehya, heaps of people and a fairy too, but we just don't have the money this close to Christmas. Going to have to make sure I put it away for her next birthday a few months beforehand.

Nic, hugs huni if it makes you feel better your surely not alone with these crappy nights. I know, not much comfort hey. How do you remember all the birthdays ? I'm flat out remembering my kids and families.

Yay Abbey! Another 1 year old! Man... time is just going too quick :(

Well, trying to think what our latest news is. I took Kayla to the GP and we decided that we didn't need to see the paed anymore. The GP did her 12 mth check and was happy with her progress. The paed was only really keeping an eye on her weight and was costing us a fortune LOL. And the thing that really motivated me to not go anymore is that I had to get a new referral from the GP and the paed would then charge a 'new referral fee' which would have been over $200!! pfft. But having got out of seeing that doctor, I now have to take DS to a specialist to check out his knock knees :rolleyes: The GP wasn't concerned but wants a specialist to check him over to make sure it's not his hips or anything doing it. Otherwise they pretty much grow out of it. So we may or may not need physio etc for it.

Kayla now takes 1 step on her own. She has done a little shuffle of 3, but it was with the same leg and going around in a circle LOL, so I don't count it, coz she was rebalancing more than walking!

oh, and I discovered two molars in Kayla's mouth yesterday LOL - could explain the BAD nights a few weeks ago! LMAO. I was hanging her upside down off my lap and she was laughing, and there they were!

I always feel bad when we can't do a party for each child..Next year we are doing Isaac and Jacob and Ethan will have just a family one..

It is a slight comfort I am not the only one not getting enough sleep because then I know I am not completely mucking everything up kwim?

Olivia is so foul this morning. She not long had breakfast so I hope she stays happy for a bit longer. Debating what to do about sleeps today. Do I start a strict routine or just plod along as normal?

Nic - think it depends if your a routine person yourself. There's no way I can do routine myself, so I don't think implementing a strict routine would ever work in this house, even if bub needed it :/ We can't even seem to stick to a 7.30 bedtime for Tallon, even tho he really needs it. Our lives just don't seem to work that way!

Could it be anything she's eating? I know sugar affects Tallon badly, he's bouncing off the walls and then can wake up crying etc at night. So I have to watch what he eats.. just one choc biscuit does it. Kayla hasn't had much sweet stuff, so I can't blame her sleeping on that yet. heh.

We had a wakeful night last night too.. well I did anyway *rolleyes* at DH. Nothing but a feed worked, and she's started fussing if I give her the wrong side too. Altho I shouldn't really roll my eyes at DH, he had to get up and walk to the train station at 4.30 this morning.. something big going on at work today.

I really thought Olivia would have been exhausted after swimming at the beach yesterday afternoon maybe she was too exhausted...... I like the idea of a semi routine.. not set in stone but I guess we do that already.. The kids all have a set bed time. Olivia naps around the same time each day.

Yeah, we have a semi-routine too if we're at home. mainly with Tallon though.. Kayla still just sleeps when she's tired. But Tallon I can put to bed at 11/11.30 for his nap, and 7.30/8.00 for his night sleep. Providing we're home and DH is home from work at night etc. It does change around if we go out & stuff.

Kayla definitely suffers from being overtired. Tallon never did, I could pretty much always feed him to sleep whenever/wherever, and he never fussed if he got overtired.. just meant that he'd sleep within seconds of feeding. But if Kayla is overtired.. OMG.. she just can't sleep, and she gets really upset about it, tosses & turns etc. I still have to initially wrap her so she stays still to fall asleep, then I unwrap her for the rest of the night.

Thats what happened with Olivia I think. She got over tired and then couldn't sleep..

She is quite happy now though so Isaac has decided its his turn to whine.. aagghh lol.. Today is just going to suck..

Nic- Huge :hug: for you. Umm.. with the daysleeps, it helped with Ty to keep him up a bit longer... I was trying to put him down when he looked tired (which seemed logical to me) but I've found timing him works a bit better. I put him down three hours after he wakes for his first nap, then three and a half till the next one, then three hours till bed time. So if he gets up at 6, I put him down at nine. He goes to sleep much quicker and sleeps for longer. But Olivia's that bit older, maybe go three and a half or four hours?

Liz- We have big overtired problems here.. I don't enjoy myself much of we go out anymore, I'm too worried about getting Ty to bed so he won't be overtired!!

Trish- We're doing a small party here too. Two weeks before Xmas, a big just seemed like too much drama. And luckily they don't realise at this age.

Ty was pretty good last night- did a 6 hour stretch (wwwooooooootttttt!!) then came into our bed at midnight. He was a big grizzly from then, but I just kept feeding him to sleep :D Teeth are really bugging him, poor baby.

I think Olivia is the next birthday, she is the 4th Dec (:o OMG only a week away!), good memory Nic! :)

We actually got a good nights sleep here (sorry everyone), but it doesn't seem to happen that often...
Our main issue at the moment is dinner. Olivia seems to have decided that she likes food she can eat herself and not food off a spoon from mummy or daddy. I can try to feed her meat and veg on a spoon and she totally refuses it, but put it on toast so she can feed herself and she is chompiong into it :rolleyes: A big part of me thinks what does it matter as long as she is eating it, but it is also getting frustrating... And stuff she doesn't want she throws forward as far as she can (to the end of the highchair tray) The other night I jsut gave her steamed vegies as finger food ans she seemed quiet happy with that. Can mums with more than one tell me if this 'independance' is a phase?

We are going a bit birthday mad here this year (it will be the only year it is this big), Dh is actually calling it 'operation mega party' :p We have got a party at the park this Saturday for our friends and babies and kids, then next Sunday is a party for close family. Seemed like a good idea a few months ago.... I spent yesterday cleaning the backyard (it was horrendous), so today I am all sore and knackered but at least it looks much better and Olivia had a great time playing out there in the portacot while I cleaned around her.

I wouldn't say the independence is a phase, but they do get less messy LOL.

Liz I don't think they get less messy unless girls are less messy? Olivia hits her food away when she doesn't want anymore so it could end up anywhere...

Well, Tallon's food goes in his mouth most of the time LOL.. Kayla's food goes all over the highchair & the floor LOL. So i'm hoping Kayla will get less messy like her brother!

Nic - Hugs sweets. Loren was a right pia on Tuesday night. She was up between 12.30am and 3am. Granted she was coughing alot but mostly she just wanted to party. Last night she slept through though. Is Olivia hot? Loren doesn't sleep well when she is hot or cold. We don't have a set routine but mostly she'll go down for a daysleep around 10/11 and may have a arvo sleep. Then bed time is between 7.30 and 8.30. This depends on whether or not she has had a day sleep or not.

I think Rory's Oliver would be next. Not sure.

Alicia - It is really good that Olivia is feeding herself. I know it is timing consuming, messy and frustrating but in the long run it is a good thing. Loren ate whole veg peices for the first time last night. I was so excited because she would only eat puree before this.

Trish - We had a huge party for Sara's first birthday. With Loren are only doing a family bbq. I am however still going to do a special home made cake.

Recently I bought a small blow up ball pool for Loren's bday. Well it was so hot on Tuesday that I opened it and filled it up with water for the girls to play in and cool down.Now I don't have anything to give her for her birthday and I really can't think of anything to buy her.

Best go, Loren is wanting breakfast.
