Holy Crap, Jules!!! Where abouts are you?? Our closest major hospital is 1 1/2 hours away. Our local hospital only has 2 nurses on at all times and we only have a dr every couple of days. I'll be thinking of your DP. How scary!

Hannah's continued to be feral today. DP got home and she woke up. I was slaving over a hot stove making a lovely 5 course meal (read heating up soup) and Hannah was rolling onto her tummy and sooking. DP would roll her back and she'd laugh. Then instantly back onto her belly and start sooking. After less than 5 minutes DP storms out to the kitchen and complains about her. I wasn't impressed, as I'd been playing this 'game' with Hannah all friggin day. She wants to crawl. Badly. She's getting frustrated that she can roll but can't actually go anywhere. Not helped by the fact that her top gum is really swollen. Hope this tooth comes through alot faster than the last 2.

So.... after today.... All my clucky-ness is gone. Until I see my friends baby on the weekend. He's 6 weeks old and catching up to Hannah fast. Only a kg between them. He'll definately pass her in weight before too long.

Thanks for your thoughts...we're both shaken about it... we live in central queensland...the nearest hospital is an hour away but it can only deal with basic things...anything major then he'd be airlifted to either Rockhampton (three and a half hours away - driving) or to Brisbane (about eight-ten hours driving I think).

Sometimes the men just don't realise what we're dealing with all day, it can be so frustrating hey....I hear your frustrations... Hope Hannah's tooth comes through soon and you both get a break!

Kaz i pm you on facebook. Like i said i'm trying to go all (or as much as possible) natural. I've had good results from the natropath, her thought was the problem was on the inside and the rash was the result of my body ridding myself of it. It's just extremely stubborn around the bb area. Yay on 3 teeth, has Will had a chew of some steak yet

Charlotte great news on Hannahs hearing. Hope Dec goes just as well.

Audax hopefully we'll both be able to play with pig tails soon. Although right now i don't see much hair in Harper's bald patch at all No teeth here also and no buldging gums. I wonder if it'll be 10ish months like my Charlie boy!?

Cathie, all you can ask for is that he does his best. Sounds like he knows what he wants though which is often half the battle. I hope he's able to achieve it I'm 32 and starting to think a bit more about studying again and possibly trying a different field. All just thoughts in my head at the moment though... Wow on wanting another one, i hope your body gets the ok if that's what you want. I'd love one more but not sure if we will...

MadB we've been house of germs here also and the runny noses have come and gone for the last 2-3 weeks. I've gone out and gotten some olive leaf extract for the boys and i'm taking some pro biotic style things from the Natropath so hoping that Harper is benefitting enough from me. Hope all settles on the sickness and sleep side of things

Jules how freaking scary for you guys. Could it have been a preservative that your DH is allergic to? I got a great book from the Natropath called The Chemical Maze and it's so easy to look up the numbers and names of preservatives when comparing them to ingriedent lists. Not so good to know what we're putting in our body though. Hope you get some answer quick so you guys know what to be careful with and that it NEVER happens again. Don't applogise for the videos he's one handsome little man

Well girls like i said i'm taking Harper off zantac and just going to deal with whatever comes of that. The Natropath did give me something to try if she gets a little unsettled. From talking to her i'm going to take on a whole new aspect in the way that i cook and what i allow us to put in our mouths. Trying to lessen wheat a lot, i can do it and the kids really don't know otherwise it's just convincing DH that he'll benefit from it also. I think my issue stems from being very sensitive and my sensitivities have been heightened as i'm a bit more run down, my body's been through a lot in 5 years and i'm starting to pay. I'm just hoping to have everything settled and sorted really soon.

Better get to bed before Harper Barper wakes for a feed.

We had a big scare with DH the other night. Sunday night we sat down in the lounge and Jacob was having a feed and then we were going to bath him. DH just sat down with a glass of a new red wine he bought when he said to me "do I look red?" and I turned and said "yeah....oh....yeah, REALLY red...." he told me his skin was on fire. He asked me to drive him to the ambulance (as we only have one officer here) and not even a minute later it was spreading and he was struggling for breath so I called 000 cause there was no way I was driving him with him in his state and a seven month old baby! He got given adrenaline and was rushed to hospital an hour away - the officer had him in the front to keep an eye on him and had to stop on route to give him more adrenaline and put him on oxygen and when he got to hospital they gave him more adrenaline and some other drugs to reverse the affects... I drove over with Jacob....spent a few hours there then came home at 11pm and went back and got him the next day. He's got to see a specialist for allergy testing as it's his second reaction with unrelated products and they don't think he'll survive another one... He has been given an epipen to keep on him at all times in case of another reaction. We live so remote, it's so scary. Anyway, that's our excitement of late...

for those of u with more then one child already, how much did u buy them for their first xmas/birthday?
summahs birthday is the 14th dec, so only 2 weeks before xmas...

so far ive laybyed her a swing to hang on the deck rafters, a turtle for the bath, a xylophone from the target toy sale, plus ive bought her a lamaze hand bag, a turtle u put shapes in, a ring stacker, and something else...
then at target im going to get her a smart trike, tea set, little people farm, a little tykes kitchen thing and a little tent thing....

for her birthday we will get her a bangle as well....

is that enough to spread over her bday and xmas?

It's lovely giving them things and easy to get carrired away. Just remember that you have to 'up' the ante each year as they expect more and more. I reckon it's best to start very simple (read lazy-arse). Same reason DS had his first birthday party at 3.

The things i find most difficult now is that DS2 and DD don't need much of their own because DS already as 'something like it'. It does my head in trying to be practical but wanting to surprise them also. Well Harper Barper could get her dolls and prams and things but right now she seems way too young.

I've selected about 4 things for Harper a select few for the boys and we're going to have the main gify be a cubby house/fort kind of thing. AND THAT IS IT!!!!

dont worry we are the same, i tend to not be worried about getting something for xmas! and clearly im good at going over board as well! but this is the reason we decided she would be a only child, so we could spoil her!

we will get her a little silver bangle for her birthday that she can keep as her special item!

have already been to target, got there at 8 and was out by 830, was good having my SIL there with our nephew i had Summah in the baby bjorn (i hate the thing but was handy this morning! and she pushed her pram and had a drag along trolley and i had a big trolley... we got eveyrthing we wanted and it wasnt even busy! so now im done and ready for xmas! oh and her birthday!

EJ - was it slippery elm that the naturo recommended? One of my antenatal midwives used it with her refluxy babies and absolutely swore by it. I used it for heartburn when pregnant and it was better than any antacid I used. It's a powder, and you mix it with apple juice to make it stomachable (I tried it with water and it is truly revolting) and then in your tummy it forms a kind of gel, which just stops stuff coming back up. That was her explanation anyway. Look into it.

crumpet - we are buying Eleanor one gift for her birthday (the 9th) and one for Christmas. For her birthday it's a 90 piece Duplo set. For Christmas we're not sure yet. Grandparents get to do the same - one thing each and it has to be Australian made or fair trade. Or something she needs, like new pyjamas. I know my mum has bought her a set of wooden dolls, but the ILs need serious reining in on that stuff, so we are laying down the rules, having seen the excess showered upon my nephew Right now her favourite toy is a milk carton with a bread clip inside it, so I dare say we won't be needing anything too flash.

I ignored the housework today in favour of sewing, and made myself two breastfeeding dresses. Also managed to convert my next door neighbour to using cloth, and cook a delightful dinner, and take Noodle out for a walk in the mei tai, so I'm feeling pretty on top of this mummy gig right now.

Crumpet - Thanks, it was very scary... His testing is on the 11th August, so we'll have more answers then...until then he just has to keep the epi pen with him. I just hope that I never have to do it FOR him... Summah is such a lucky little girl!! I say go with what you want for sure, if you wanna spoil her then spoil her. We're keeping it pretty low key cause Jacob is going to be spoilt by everyone else but at the same time, we're still spoiling him a little

Jules, that is terrifying. Perhaps it's sulphur? Hope all is well... I concur with EJ re: the preservatives. Sulphur dioxide is 220 and it's in an alarming number of things.

Re: Christmas and b'day... I read something somewhere (story of my life) that the German Christmas tradition is to give a child five things - something to eat, something to wear, something to play with, something to read/learn, something to spend. I kinda like that. We're looking into getting Millie a Laufrad, a bike without pedals. Apparently it's really good for their hips/leg alignment and they get their balance to the point where, once you put them on a regular bike they just go... but will have to import it from Germany so it will be for Christmas, not b'day. B'day will probably be a fold out lounge thingie, but need to find one that is not bloody Bratz or princesses. Hah, good luck with that, right?

Audax, :LOL: at the milk carton/breadclip toy. Millie will swipe all her toys off the highchair table but keep hold of a catalogue (or pieces thereof) forever.

Cathie, can you chat with your obs or GP about it? DH and I have had a good chat about it and I'm going off the pill next month to try and chart my cycle - not that we had trouble last time but I don't want to go back on the pill in between #2 and #3 (hee hee, planning ahead) so need to actually know how long my cycles are. Will start trying later in the year.

So, the trip was awesome and went soooo quickly. It's like we brought home a different baby, she has grown and developed so much All too quickly she's 8 months old and I'm back at work. Sigh. We were both okay, I had a huge sook on Monday night but as Millie was okay on Tuesday morning, so was I. It is hard not to speed on the way to pick her up, I miss her so much during the day. We never actually did the sums to figure out if I really *need* to be back at work, I just assumed that I'd want to and would be ready to after 8 months. I don't and I'm not. But there I go, because I said I would. The five weeks together has changed DH's mindset too - he wants to find work much closer to home as he realised how much he misses out on.

We had a nice day today - went to Parra Park cafe for lunch. Unfortunately Millie has rediscovered her gift for soprano squealing and shattered the serenity a little! This evening she squealed almost non-stop for 2 hours. In a tiled, open-plan house, it ECHOES like crazy and can be quite painful.

I'm off to my GP tomorrow - I have done something odd to my wrist and can barely lift Millie now. Not good.

I'm knackered so will sign off but hope to be in touch more often! Thinking of you all xox

MadB, i second the sleep, how is Miri going? Harper is pretty good but still about 3 or 4 wakes a night. I usually get to the 8 month mark and try to start giving hugs and settling without a feed every wake up. We'll see though because i can't afford to be lacking in too much sleep.

Just a little whinge about gifts and my family.... I have 12 neices and nephews on my DH's side of the family and as the family has grown the $ limit has had to lessen so it's manageable for each family. We're down to $20 but sometimes it can be so difficult to find something that's not crappy for that amount. So this year i suggested that we do a kris kringle between the children and increase the limit and it was fine with everyone but DH's sister. She doesn't want to do that, she said she 'enjoys buying for her neices and nephews and as my MIL was an only child they don't have cousins so they never used to receive anything from aunts and uncles'. I understand that but the kids get soooo much and to me all i see is them open a present, chuck it to the side and wonder what's next because of the sheer volume of it all. It's not about the amount!!!! I love Christmas but the financial stress can really get to me...

Jules that book is a good little one, all the numbers or names of the preservatives are listed and all you have to look at is if they have a smiley face or sad face next to them. Great to have in your bag when you do a grocery shop. Like PP said also 220 is in sooooo much and it's nasty. Surprisingly it's in alot of what you find in the 'health food aisle' driend fruit and saltantas. I won't buy any dried fruit (i do bake with it sometimes though) and you can buy the organic saltantas without the 220. How have you found Jacob since going off zantac. Harper is doing pretty well, the only thing i have noticed is that she does bring up a little more in her burps (that was not happening) and some feeds she is quite irritated and pulls off and hops back on a lot. I've given her the stuff the natropath gave me a couple of times. But overall she's great. Hope it's similar for Jacob.

PP i like the bike i've seen similar ones and i love the idea of the German Christmas I'm with you i want to get Harper a little suitcase because they are the perfect size for camping but i dont' want a bratz or dora one. She can have that stuff when she's old enough to ask for it.... if she insists... I'm so happy you guys had a wonderful time away and got so much out of being a family.

So like i said to Jules we're going ok without the zantac, a few little signs still show but they aren't causing anywhere near the issues they did when she was a little one. She's using her knees so much and yesterday i saw her move forward like a catapillar. Sitting a little bit but i won't leave her to do it herself yet. Just have to share, it's a really crazy only a mum could be excited about kind of thing but Aidan for a long time now when he goes to the toilet to do #2 he'll sit there for some time and it's always quite softish (sorry girls) and i mentioned this to the natropath and she said to try him with some of the pro biotic stuff she'd given me and i was every excited yesterday when he went and it was done in a minute and it was one firm piece. I mentioned this to the dr so long ago and he said it was normal for some small children to have loosish bowels but maybe not so much!??! Anyway just wanted to share... I'm ok, considering going to the dr's again but i just so sick of spending money on myself. Better go i'm sure i've said enough for the week

Hey guys!
Everything is 'fine' here. Hannah's teething again. Top tooth this time. Hopefully it doesn't take as long as last time. She was awake for 3 hours this morning, screaming and screaming. But, the panadol finally kicked in and she's been asleep for an hour now.
We went to the Halls Gap zoo on the weekend with my folks, 2 brothers, and Nana. Hannah was an angel. She was awake all the way there (3 hour drive) and fell asleep as we got into Halls Gap. Woke her, gave her a bottle and she slept all the way around the Zoo. DP and I went with SIL in September but its a fantastic zoo. It only cost us 20 bucks to get in.

Off for another house inspection on Wednesday. The same house we looked at a few weeks ago. We're in the process of getting a loan, talking to Aussie homeloans. They're awesome, so nice. The house needs work, but we really want it. DP's job is very secure so there's no worries about him losing it.

Hannah is loving sitting up in the washing basket. When she's on the floor she flips over onto her belly and will stay there for up to 20 minutes now, she has a rest every now and then. She can't go anywhere, but she's starting to kick her legs around and stretch her arms out in front of her and 'scratch' at the carpet. So, she's trying to move!!

Got my cloth nappies, they're great. Except Hannah's still a bit little and they've leaked out the leg a few times.

Haven't even thought about Christmas too much. We bought Hannah a little pull out sofa, just one of foam ones. It was 15 dollars in Kmart.
I don't want to go overboard, with her birthday being only 2 weeks before Christmas. Kmart's toys are getting really cheap, so we'll probably just pick her up a few things.

Grrr, she's making noise....

EJ if it's still not right then you may need to spend the money on yourself... sounds like you're getting somewhere by going all natural, but if you need to check in, then don't put your own health on the backburner. Glad Miss Barper is not too refluxy without the zantac - fingers crossed she has grown out of it. Awesome that Aiden is having a better time on the loo!

Speaking of money, I have just discovered that we probably won't get any childcare rebate. Holy moly. We are quite comfortable and want for nothing (mind you, we rent rather than own our own place) and I am happy to pay my taxes and don't expect hand outs etc etc... but WOW it costs a lot. Like I said last night we didn't really do the sums to see if I needed to go back to work... I think perhaps we should have! Will certainly rethink things when #2 comes along.

Went to my GP this morning and apparently it's tendonitis. Not sure how I did it, more than likely lifting Millie at some point. I took the opportunity to weigh and measure her (the nurse wasn't in yet but I just swiped the scales and measuring thingie ) and she's bang on 9kg clothed, and 71.5cm long!
