Hey Hey
Hi Kristy - Jem is back to angelchild at nighttime, MAYBE once a week waking for a feed at some weirdarse time of night.... monday night it was 10.45pm so i was still awake and didnt mind one bit, she has dropped her sleeping time to 10hours overnight though, seems to be 7 til 5 now when she used to do 12 hours pretty consistantly but when she wakes up she just feeds and falls asleep with me in my bed until i am ready to get up or until at least 8am so that is fine as hubby 'delivers' her before he leaves for work with a fresh nappy.... I still reckon Jemima is just growing when she wakes up for the weird feed time..... will see on friday as that is 4 month check and needles.
QUESTION TIME - okey dokey this is for my friend accross the road with the 10week old... she has been dream feeding her to try and get away from 2-3am feeds, it sometimes works but she is wondering how long she should do it for and what times people do it she has been doing it about 10 or 11pm..... can anyone help?
michelle - good luck with needles! jem's hair is longish on top really long and thick at the bottom with a ring around her head!!! heheheehehe what is with the weather here!!! grrrrr dont think jemima likes it.... loves to snuggle away the cold which is cute loving all the hoodies she has to hide in too.
mg - what a beautiful little girl you have, again love the stripes, how many stripey things does abbey have?? jemima has a minimum of 8 stripey all in ones at least one stripey hoodie and at least 2 pairs of stripey leggins, two of the stripey suits also have matching hats and at least 2 have matching socks..... Dedication service??? what religion is that?? we are having heaps of problems deciding if we will christen jemima or not.... we are both different religions and we cant figure out how to go about a naming ceremony now that jem is almost 4 months.... and tell all about Abbey's first swim!!! i want to get jem in the water so bad, she has togs i am just not game to try mine on, even if they fit they will show a bit more bellythan i probably want to at the moment.... ho hum
jem has been restless all afternoon, not crying just needy so i dont know what is with that and she has woken up about 3 times since we put her to bed and once wanted to burp, dont know what the other times were for..... think she wants to watch the footy (which is totally acceptable) think tonight we will for sure have a weirdarse wake up time... so i better get to bed..
Michelle - Yay for Bella being back to her old self! Needle time already? Eek! Seems like just yesterday we were getting them done! I'm also having Abbey's done on a day DH is available - he should have to experience it at least once! Although he tried to tell me it wouldn't bother him - lets see if he can handle it as well as he thinks!
Lisa - great weight gain! WOOHOO!
Hi Kristy - that reading program sounds like such a great idea! I wish they had something similar here. They do have a reading program at the local library but doesn't start until next month and they are on a day I am back at work!!! I know how hard it is with family and friends so far away - that was why we went back to Adelaide. It meant that all of the important people here missed out but they get to see her all the time - and will be here for her first birthday and all her other milestones. I figure it evens out. For the after party bit we had a very country afternoon tea. We had a cake from the Cheesecake shop, DH and I made a million sandwhiches, my Grandma made lamingtons and butterfly cakes, we put out some hot food as well (party pies, sausage rolls and quiches). We also had plunger coffee, tea, water and soft drink available. We held the entire thing at the resort we were staying at. The service was in an undercover area near the pool (thank goodness because it POURED most of the time we were in SA! Although the rain ceased about 20 min before the service and didn't recommence again until about 2 hours afterwards!). The afternoon tea was in the same area and flowed into a little kitchen area as well. It was rather nice. The outdoor area was mostly enclosed so it wasn't too bad. We did have blankets for people's knees though. My MIL bought light purple plastic table clothes to cover the tables and one of her friends sent us flowers as a gift so we split them up and put them in the centre of the tables. We had pink napkins and plates, purple and white serving platters, and my MIL bought 20 coffee cups in a beige colour from K-Mart for 50c each! She wanted to do balloons and streamers as well but I put my foot down! I think that would have been over the top and tacky for what we were doing. We had a GREAT time though.
I am envious of all you girls with bubs sleeping through. Abbey still wakes for a feed over night. Mind you - she does go down between 6 and 7 and sleeps for about 6 hours straight at that point. THen goes straight back to sleep afterwards and sleeps for another 3-4 hours.
Abbey has been so out of sorts since we got back from Adelaide. At first I thought she was just missing al the attention from Adelaide - but then I noticed her constant chewing on everything and her increased drooling and her red cheeks - so now I'm thinking she might be teething. I have had a good feel in her mouth though and can't find anything... Maybe it is the weather...
Alright - better be off.
Love MG
ETA Kel: A Dedication Service can be any religion but I think is more common in Salvation Army and Anglican. Essentially, the service we had WAS a Christening except I refused to allow it to be as religious as my IL's wanted and so therefore they insisted it be called a Dedication Service. Abbey was still blessed, we were blessed, her Godparents were blessed, the Lord was thanked, she was signed with the Cross etc. If you are of differing religions (as DH and I are to his parents) you can talk to the Minister and have a more "neutral" service - most are pretty accomdating. A naming ceremony would also work. Just do a search for Celebrants in your area (they are often listed in the back of your local paper) and have a chat to them - they can help you plan a suitable ceremony. We were thinking of using a Celebrant and even contacted the Celebrant who married us - but she is a bit scary looking and I reckon she would have frightened Abbey so we opted not to use a Celebrant!
I can't help on the dream feeds - sorry. Abbey had one once (she woke wanting a feed but slept through it!) and that was 11:30 - she then wanted another feed at 1:30am. The next night she fed at 7:30pm and didn't wake until 4:30am - go figure!

: Missed Kels post!
Hello everyone! This is just a quickie, but I just wanted to say the emla (sp?) patches are worth every cent! Bella had her needles today and the needle was all the way in and she didn't even notice! It wasn't until the stuff was injected that she started to cry a little bit. So DH got off lightly I reckon (he had today off so that's why I organised needles for today)! Also, the doctor said it was a lot easier for her to do the needles because Bella didn't tense up like she did last time, so she didn't have to push so hard to get them in. So there ya go!
I'll update her website later with her measurements and stuff.
As for the fact we were having "issues" the other week, I dug out the Wonder Weeks book and 19 weeks is the next one. It says that from around 15 weeks, we can expect our babies to be unsettled. Now that's understatement of the century..! It gave a big list of stuff that could be happening around now, and it's spot on. Another great purchase!
Kel, can't help with getting a bub to sleep through, unfortunately! DS wakes himself for a feed between 1-3 hours after he has been put down (so between 9 and 11pm), then will sometimes sleep for six hours after that. Which religions are you and Benji?
MG, Lieby has been teething for the last two months. It can last three months, so don't be surprised if you can't feel any teeth yet. DS can bite through my skin, we can see the teeth, but they're just not breaking through. We're all frustrated with this!
Michelle, unsettled? Well, I have heard larger understatements, but can't think of any at the moment. Yay for the needles going well, I need to get Lieby booked in for his in about a week (we were late with the needles).
I've figured out how to make DS go to sleep when he gets tired! Put him in his chair and rock him while he complains! He doesn't cry if he's just tired rather than over-tired, but I thought he'd be up for another hour! I'm going to try to only let him be awake for a couple of hours at a time today and see if that helps. He's having a growth spurt - feeding every about 90 minutes, even overnight (praise God it's just feed and sleep now, not playtime!), even during his daytime naps he's waking half-way through to feed and sleep. My mother said he's ready for solids, but TBH it will have to be a good week of this before I start to think maybe he needs more than just milk, especially at this age. Just because I was given chocolate at four months old! It was nice to see my parents, but nice now it's just me and Liebling again... I don't like sharing him that much!
Harrison has had another brilliant weight gain.... 200g in a week.
I was so happy. I am sure this growth spurt will come to an end soon, but I am enjoying it while its here... Harrison has been sitting up by himself for the last few weeks, but it looks better now that he is a little chunkier... he looked way to little to be doing it before!!! Check out the ticker pic for his sitting up pose!!! Such a cutie!!!
MG and Ryn - Harrison has also been teething for a while now... isn't it awful for them!!! I get so upset when he grunt/cries... this is his new, teething cry and he does it now and then... thats when I know his teeth are hurting him... His bottom and top front teeth are so noticable and ready to come out... he has been chewing on his bibs and me.
Hopefully our bubbas get their teeth out without too much drama... my Dad was telling me that my brother teethed so bad he had blood blisters all over his little gums!!! Ouch!!!
Hey girls
Just a quickie
Adele is doing realy well this week she has learnt how to roll over hehe
she dose like little army rolls...... so cute
She has put 2oogrm and she was born at 50 cm long now she is 61cm
she might be tall , do not no where she gets that from
She is eating food now loves mash an veg, loves her fruit
little miss piggy
well better go hope you are all doing well.
How are things?
Quinn is now getting his top teeth, his 2 bottom ones are VERY sharp, thankfully he hasn't bitten my nipple yet, but he loves to bite fingers!
Lisa - How gorgeous is little Harrison sitting up - does he sit like that on his own???? And hooray for the weight gains too! You must be very happy with that.
Ryn: Chocolate??? At 4 months?? What the...?
Hi Eve: Wow food !!! I haven't even really thought about food yet, I figure while Quinn is still sleeping through the night and not grabbing for food, that I will wait...it all happens so fast doesn't it.
Well we are planning our holiday in Sept, we are going to Spain! I know I know, how will we do that with a baby??? Well I guess we will just figure it out. I'm mostly worried about the plane trip - 20 something hours in a plane with a baby! that will be hard work, lucky for me I can sleep anywhere, and by the looks of it so can Quinn.
Speaking of...he is waking up now right on time, this boy is a 45 minute sleeper on the dot!
Kirsten - Yep, Harrison sits up like that on his own... he often sits there and watches TV or listens to us read, then he gets lazy, falls into crawl position, rolls over and lays on his back... very funny to see!!!
It's been quiet in here girls what are you doing all day !!! ( lol!!)
Erin went back to the child health nurse and is now 6.1 kg so she is still putting on the weight. Lately though her BF have been really quick. CHN said she proably is just better at sucking now but most feeds are less then 10 mins. She is still putting on about 100 grams a week so I guess she must be getting enough. Just another thing to worry about I guess! Next Wed is the 2nd lot of immunisation .
Had a busy morning at playgroup and am just packing our bags as we are off to Perth for the weekend for Dh Dad's bday. Its been 4 weeks since they have seen Erin so they really notice how big she has grown and that she has found her vocal cords. Well better get my butt into gear as have heaps to do before Dh gets home from work.
Have a GREAT trip Kristy! WTG Erin with the quicker feeds! Don't worry though - Abbey only drinks about 550mls a day (they say she needs 600ml+) and STILL puts on heaps of weight! I'm going to have to keep her active when she is older I think!
Not much new here. We're off for needles tomorrow (eek!) and have made DH go this time. We had orientation for Child Care yesterday which was good. Abbey will be the youngest in the room and the carers are already falling all over her! We have another session with DH next week because he will be the one doing the dropping off and picking up... I can't believe I go back to work in a couple of week! Where has the time gone?
Hope everyone and their bubs are happy and healthy!
Nothing much new to report from me, I'm feeling jolly left out as Liebling isn't sleeping through yet! Although I did get 7 hours from him Wednesday night, last night was a hungry night, so we're not there yet. He also still has no teeth, despite drooling, biting and other general teething signs from 8w old, I'm getting mighty sick of this.
Kristy, DS can drain me pretty quickly when he's hungry, we have a few five minute feeds these days! But that was a growth spurt.
MG, yay that you've found good childcare for when you have to go back to work, that's great.
As for me, on the news last night that they're closing parts of my hospital, so I'm sort of hoping there will be no job to which I can return. Then I will have to hope my nappy business (party plan cloth nappies) will tide me over until next September until I start teacher training. How fab would it be if I could make it until next September? Although it probably won't happen. Been discharged from physio with the whiplash pains so don't need to go near the hospital again for a while - although I'll have to drop in on Sara and some of the girls who haven't yet seen DS.
Eugh, not thinking about work! MG, don't know how you can!
Hi Girls
I just dont get enough hours in each day lately,,, been soo long since i have a chance to sit down and write here!!.
Have to be quick though,, getting really late.
Griffen had his needles yesterday,, and has been really whingy since. The nurse was not at all gently,, so he has two sore legs,, andhe keeps trying to use them heaps and when he strains on them,, he then whimpers and gets upset
Also, the nurse weighed him for me after telling her how he screams and gets soo upset at every feed barr the morning one when my boobs are fuller. Poor little boy gets desperate fo more, so all i can do it give him the dummy,,, which he then sicks the life out of,,,,, and wait another half hour and offer him some more.
His weight however has gone from putting on around 250grams a week,,,,,,,,,, to putting on only 500 grams in the last 7 weeks!!!!!!! that equates to only 70grams a week,,, . I rang up my ECN, trying to get an appt,, but none are available till july, so she told me to drink beer at night,, and feed him more,, and asked how many wet nappies he has,,, as he doesnt have enough of those either apparently . They dont want me putting him on solids till he is 6 months old. Apparently the national guidlines in Australia now are to wait till at LEAST 6 months before offering solids,, as they have found out that offering before then is increasing the amount of children with allergies etc. So he cant have that either.
So,, all in all,, he has gone from the little happy go lucky baby,,, that was in the 90% percentile for height and head circ,,, 50% for weight,,,, to still being that tall etc ont he charts,, but his weights have plummeted, and he fusses badly now,, and screams heaps around feeding time,, and badly at night.
Anyone else having the same issues? any other suggestions to increase milk supply?
Any help woudl be great
i just lost my whole blimen post!!! grrrr
anyhow lil aussie, 2 of my friends have just been given the ok to give solids before 6 months... or at least offer them, one was told at 6 months they should be ON solids and need to start before to work it out and one was told ok as her baby 4 months old is the same as a average 6month old so as you have other kids that must have been fine getting solids before hand i'd do it if you think it will make griffen happier.
getting more milk - DRINK MORE WATER - honestly it is about stressing less and drinking water - what have you got to lose? and eating good meals and snacking and stuff
did griffin get bruises on his legs from the needles?? jemima a week later has BIG bruises and 3 big lumps STILL!! ??
what did he weigh and how long is he??
jemima weighed 6.9kg and she is 66ishcm long she is going to be a model
have to go trying to figure out the name of a movie but will come back and try and remember my big long post later.....
Oh Lil! You poor chook!!! Thereare some meds you can get to increase supply - fernergan is one of them (not sure I spelt it correctly though). I hope you can get something sorted sweetie. Maybe have a chat with your GP? My MCHN was USELESS when I was having BFing issues - never told me about the meds that would help!
About the solids thing - my MCHN has told us (Mother's Group) that although WHO suggests 6 months, it is up to us to decide when our babes are ready. There are two already on solids. As Griff's Mummy - you know best. If you think it will help, and you don't have a history of allergies in your family, you could try on baby rice or something.
Lil, some babies are just lighter than others. To help increase supply, as well as what Kel and MG posted, you can use your nipples as a dummy. The more they suck, the more milk you produce.
Our health visitors tell us solids from 17 weeks, don't leave it any later. I ignore them; DS is still fully breastfed and I aren't willing to introduce solids just yet. It's completely against WHO guidelines, but when I pointed this out I was told that was just so "people in Africa didn't do it too early to be Western... it's fine for our babies." But if a baby grabs some food, puts it in his mouth and enjoys it, maybe it is time to start weaning irrespective of age!
yep yep DEFINATELY the baby sucking thing!!! the baby stimulates the milk glands to do their thing!!! and if they are not hurting this is the way to go to get more milk... my friends who 'lost' their milk had too much pain to let their babies suck to get milk happening
i am the laziest mum i know, i am not doing solids til i HAVE to, i figure breastmilk is doing jemima fine and i dont have to mix or mash anything and dont want to clean stinky poos before i need to, guessing it will be about 6 months.... although now (just now) i think about it the sooner i introduce food the sooner we drop more feeds and the sooner i can hope to get pregnant.... hmmmmmmmmm but i do like one poo a week and not a really big one at that..... (that was another thing needles did that i was not impressed with we have had poo day every day for 5 days! but nothing since wednesday so hopefully jemima is back to her normal once a week)
better go incase jemima and her cold make her forget that the milkbar is usually closed until 6am (last night she woke at 2.30 for a feed.... hmmm to that) she only does that once every 10 days the last 3 weeks so i can cope with that, it is funny though the time she wakes up is usually the time the baby accross the road would but when she wakes the baby accross the road doesnt like i am doing a feed for the girl accross the road!
Lil, Ask your Dr for a prescription for Maxalon or Motilium... both of these contain Domperidone, which increases milk supply... they are also Anti Nausea medication, but thy increase milk... Motilium worked wonders for me... my milk suppy was huge, but you need to make sure you get loads of stimulation before coming off as they can decrease your supply slightly when you come off... so make Griffen feed loads or express more before getting off the medication.
HTH
Lil...Fenugreek! It works wonders for increasing supply - that and the water and sucking lots...I know a few girls who took fenugreek (it's a herb) and it increased their supply by LOTS!! Also the 6 month solids thing is a guideline and not set in stone - it's up to you really if you think your baby is ready...I wanted to wait as long as possible but Quinn was wanting to feed every 2 hours and woke up in the middle of the night for a feed (Imagine that - a baby waking up to be fed at night!!!). I gave him a little bit of millet cereal mixed with breastmilk yesterday and he went straight back to sleeping all night - not sure if this is coincidence or not....anyway Quinn is almost 5 months. Kel: I'm with you - I was very keen to wait as long as I could before offering solids. The cleaning, the mashing, the mixing, the expressing, the smelly poo - BF is just soooo much easier.
Lisa: That is so cool that Harrison sits up like that
