thanks minky! it did make me feel heaps better. i took some anti-histamine after the last feed, and he slept from 10-5.30am and it was enough to get out of my system to give him the 5.30 feed.
i've only today taken out his baby scrapbook, i was going to do it before he was born but he came so early!
how are you girls going with head lifting and turning over. he doesnt like his tummy time on the mat but seems to be ok when he's on the sofa. so at least he's practising that way. no attempt to roll yet.
-
Good Morning all,
Prama I hope you are feeling much better. I have had a funny throat on and off for the last week and now my boys are sick! Of course DH is away it always happens when he goes away.
Luckily DD is being an angel she has slept 12hours each night for the last 4 nights and then has only been awake for a max of 1-2hrs at a time during the day. I have been blessed.
We have a mothers day evening at Kinder tonight so hopefully DS1 will be well enough to go.
DD wriggles alot but not rolling as yet. I have also noticed the drooling thing and she does have very red cheeks at times as well.
Have a good day everyone
Sue
-
Hi everyone,
Parama- Hope you are better today.
Amber too gets red cheeks and drools. But I have felt her gums and no teeth are around.
Does anyone have one of those Bumbo seats? I am thinking of getting one but not sure.
Well DD has just woken up. She is in the best moods when she wakes. I get so many smiles!
-
Prama - Luke is also drooling like crazy (has been for a coupld of weeks) but no signs of teeth yet (thankfully!).
Sue - nice one on the long night sleeps. It really helps you function better doesn't it. DS is sleeping anything from 8 - 12 hours in a go each night. Hopefully the 12 hour nights will become more and more frequent.
Jen - A friend of mine has one of the Bumbo seats. Really loves it.
HELP - Day Sleeps
DS is driving me crazy with day sleeps. I certainly can't complain about his night sleeps but the days are really bad. I can only ever get 45 minutes at a time (very very occasionally 2 sleep cycles 1.5 hours). By the end of the day he is just so tired and irritable, hard to feed, arching his back etc. And sometimes extremely hard to settle for his night sleep. Is this just a phase ?? Is everyone else going through this? Otherwise any tips on getting him to sleep longer than one sleep cycle during the day???
-
Jacki how long do you keep him up for after a feed?
As for teething, I'm quite positive that Alex is.
On top of the drool, we have warm temps, red cheeks, teeth visible high in the gums, constantly grizzly and wanting cuddles, interrupted day sleeps and all is fixed by panadol - unfortunately the only thing i can give because teething gel is not allowed until four months.
I didn't want him to cut early but i don't want him to be grizzly for the next eight weeks other... Never can win.
-
Hi Jacki,
My two DS' were exactly the same would only sleep for 40mins and by the end of the day were really overtired. With my first DS we took him to the baby chiro as he was a vacuum extraction and had a fractured clavicle at delivery -- he improved slightly after this and some days he would sleep two sleep cycles and others only one. He got much better after his 3 month growth spurt and then after solids at 6 months (sorry)
With my second he wasn't gaining weight and by eight weeks he went onto formula and improved from there.
DD is totally different so I don't know if it is a boy girl thing, but usually she has two sleeps during the day of 2- 2.5 hours and then a catnap in the arvo evening. She has cut herself to 4 bottles of 220ml each and has slept for 12hours the last 4 nights. Now hopefully I haven't jinxed myself by writing it down.
Could Luke be hungry??
I really sympathize Jacki because I used to be beside myself at the end of the day with DS1. Sometimes I would go for a big drive so he could sleep -- but petrol being the price it is now and its just not practical I know you want to him to sleep in his own bed.
Has the MCHN said anything????
Sorry for the essay.
Good Luck
Sue

thanks girls - i feel better but had a migraine headache last night. so bad, i was throwing up. and pelvic floor was acting up.. a bit of wee when i threw up (sorry TMI)
i asked the early childhood nurse about drooling and she said at this stage they drool a lot cos htey are producing more saliva but dont know what to do with it. it doesnt have to be teething.
jacki - lakshman was sleeping on 15-45 mins at a time the last few weeks during the day. this week he slept all the way between feeds. so i dunno.. it's so tiring when they sleep so little.
gotta go. he's hungree
-
Jacki - Jasper is the same. I only get two 45 minute naps in the morning and then in the afternoon 1 of 30 - 45 minutes if I am lucky... He does sleep well if I keep him on my shoulder; up to two hours, but I don't want to make a habit out of that. It seems to be improving a little, though, today he slept after lunch in his cot and that hasn't happened for the last couple of weeks. So hopefully it is just a phase... He does sleep well at night; anywhere in between 10 - 12 hours per night. He has changed so much though in the last few weeks, I put the being unsettled and not wanting to sleep down to him being so much more aware of his surroundings in the space of a couple of weeks. Especially since more bubbies on the forum seem to go through the same...
Ash - Jasper does the same; drools and has red cheeks and is generally unsettled, no signs of teeth that I have noticed...
Sorry girls, no time for more personals; have to go put bubby to bed....
-
Thanks for replies ladies. Hopefully its just a phase but it seems to be gong for a long time ! I have the 3-4 month check up with MCHN on thursday so I am sure she will have lots to say about it !
Ash - the time I keep him up varies. I just look out for tired signs.
Sue - not to sure if he is hungary or not. I usually just offer a feed every 3 hours as he isn't a baby that cries very often and very rarely cries out for food so I generally don't know when he is hungary.
Esme - maybe you are right about them being unsettled as they are more any more aware of surroundings and just "haven't got time for sleep" - too much to see and do. Its great that Jasper does a 10-12 stretch at night.
Also over the last couple of days having trouble getting him to feed - keeps having a suck, stretching out legs/arching back, pulling off and then going back on again (not very good for my nipples). He is being such bugga.
I would love to put everything down to a 'phase' or a growth spurt but can't help thinking it is me that is doing something wrong and I have run out of ideas as to what to change.
-
Jacki- Amber is exactly the same as Luke. She will only go down for a sleep cycle at a time during the day. She is also feeding very quickly. I keep putting her back on, she does a couple of sucks and then comes off again. So I reckon she has finished the side and put her on the other side where she drinks quickly and does the same thing... she does seem content when she is finished though.
I am putting down what she is going through to that 3 month change in the brain they go through. She sleeps well at night so I am thankful for that at least.
-
hi..
the LC told me sometimes they pull back very quickly if they get a lot of milk and need a breather. not sure if this applies to you girls..
ooh. lakshman wriggles at the boob like he's wrestling a python! hurts!!
ohh., the pregnancy, baby expo is in sydney 16th-18th!
Pregnancy, Babies and Childrens Expo you can print out the free tix.

hi - it's been a while since i wrote as i just don't get the chance anymore to get on with a toddler & a new baby!
We're doing well despite the lack of sleep from DD2 in the day (sounds familiar!).
Teething - my DD1 was drooling, red cheeks etc from 3 months and everyone said she was teething. Which could be true as i now understand most of the pain happens before the tooth erupts - it's as it's the moving in the gum which seems to cause most distress. Her first tooth popped through at 6 months so 3 months of movement on & off.
We're off to the UK to see family in 2 weeks for a month long trip - wish us luck with a 22 month old & a 3 month old!
-
RoyaUK - Good luck and enjoy your trip!!! You are a brave woman... We are going to the Netherlands in June and only have Jasper, but I am nervous already!!
Jenjams - Jasper does the same; he keeps pulling off and my poor nipples are quite sore again... Hopefully they'll get used to it soon. He is content after a feed, so I just think that he is getting more efficient.
-
Roya - oooh good luck on your trip! it's a long flight.
We're flying to Kuala Lumpur in June (Esme we're flying on the 14th, when are you flying out?) and it's only 8 hrs but im nervous as hell. DH flies w us but he comes back after 2 weeks and Lakshman and I fly back in August by overselves.. eekkkkk
-
Hi prama, we are flying to Amsterdam via Hongkong on the 30th of June, so you can tell us all about flying with a bubby! Tell me about being nervous, I am so nervous, at the moment I don't even want to think about it.... Nothing like the usual looking forward to a holiday. Will have to change that soon though, will have to start thinking of what to pack... Do you have Lakshman's passport yet? We have applied, but not received yet. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
At least, on the way back, you will be an old hand at it and it will be no worries at all!!!
-
we havent got his passport yet, we are supposed to get his birth cert this week. if we dont by tomorrow, we are going to go in and get it done express. i read at the website that you can get the passport in 10 days. it is cutting close!
yes, i need to think what to pack too. we are away for 2 mths so he will be changing sizes, plus the weather is warm, i have of his clothes as gifts for summer that were too big, so i'll pack those and buy others as needed.
i also dont know what to pack for me.. my summer clothes dont fit too well. :(
Are you flying Cathay Pacific? We're doing Malaysia Airlines, my friend works as a crew and she said not to worry, the crew will help with stuff, setup the bassinet and all. im taking my hug a bub on flight, hopefully it'll will calm him, in case he looses it! hahaha

Hey Prama - thanks for letting me know about this thread :D i see u are after a passport for little and chasing birth certificate - hey i was told realistically it will take 9-12 weeks to get one its been 7 weeks with me and i still havent got it - apparently they are experiencing delays hmmmmmmmmm i still have to post up images of my little one - thanks for the tip on uploading.xxx
-
I have bought some 00 summer clothes on sale for him at Best & Less; $2 each, so I hope he will fit in that. And my sister has three boys and she said she still has some clothes. Otherwise Iam pretty sure that nanna will spoil him rotten. I am planning on trying to travel light and taking minimum baggage (for myself at least), I have the same problem; the only summer stuff I have are old maternity shirts... Will see how we go, probably go shopping in Holland. We are taking the Baby Bjorn and no pram, so it will be a good test for our backs. Are you still breastfeeding? I am planning on sticking him on the boob as soon as he as much as starts to squirm. I don't know if my nipples will survive, but we'll find out. We are travelling Cathay Pacific; I thought better to pay a little extra and get good service, than trying to find a bargain and getting stuck somewhere... Malaysian Airlines is very good; we flew with them last time we went over; very good service. Did you get your bassinet booking confirmed? Cathay doesn't do that, they only do requests, so we'll see how we go.... At the moment he sleeps best on my shoulder anyway. Good luck with your passport application!!!
-
it took 2 hrs to do this post, and i hit submit and BB acted up..aarrgggh
esme - we have booked a basinette. we also get 10kgs for him.we're taking the pram but not sure to check it in or take it to the plane. i dunno, it might get uncomfy carrying him in the hug a bub for 3 hrs. i flew Cathay about 12 years ago and they are good. not sure to give him the bottle or boob during takeoff and landing... maybe boob cos i can cuddle him better.
yeah, and the problem w shopping in KL is that the clothes are so small. i have to dig up a few things, and use them over and over again.
im so annoyed w BDM, couple of weeks ago they told us the BC will be ready in 8 weeks which is this weeks. so DH rang them and now they say 12 weeks, nothings updated on their website.
So DH went in and they said tehy can see that they started the process of our application on the 17th of March but cant find where it is!!!
so DH managed to get one on the spot, and all it took the lady to do it is 5 minutes!! holy crap, what is BDM up to!!!
Ania - welcome!! hope all gets sorted at the ECC!
-
HI Prama - guess what after all the discussion we have had re: ECC i finally received a letter today re: ECC - Im invited to the one at Old Toongabbie..... it starts in 1.5 weeks - should be good.....so can u tell me a bit of what i can expect??? im really excited. xxxx
-
hey ania - glad to hear you got the invite!!
our meets are on tuesdays. we have 6,7 mums and we meet with the nurses. each week there's a topic. first week was sleep and settling, this week was play and next week is safety. it lasts for 2 hrs. and we also ask questions and chat amongst ourselves. it's really nice to meet other mums and talk about the same issues. i only wish it was on another day. mondays and tuesdays i go for a mums and bubs exercise class in stanhope gardens, so i miss the tuesday class.
hooray on getting the ticker! Joshua's ssooo cute!!
Poopy's getting grizzly.. bbl!
-
Hi,
Welcome Ania! Joshua is very cute I have finally added a photo to my ticker too.
Prama -- you are very brave travelling with a bub but I am sure you will be fine. I am sure he will be a perfect angel for you -- after all his wonderful Mum and Dad will be with him!
Roya -- good luck to you to. Where abouts are you going to? I have relatives all over the UK.
Well my two DS' are sick with croupy coughs runny noses and just generally miserable. I was sick last week and now I have got it again. So we have been very quiet and hibernating inside although there is only so much ABC kids you can watch in one week without going insane.
DD has been good but has been more awake since I bragged about how good she was sleeping. I knew that would happen.
Have a good night everyone
Sue
-
Awww Sue. Sophie is so cute.
Welcome Ania.
Well my DD decides she wants to smile more for her daddy which gets me down a little bit. Makes me think she loves daddy more than mummy. Although this evening while DF was holding her I was laughing at her and she laughed back. Very cute!
-
sue - you are so sweet! i can only hope he's calm during the flight, and after checkin and at customs and immigration! i had ABC kids and other kids programs on t his morning, Lakshman turns his head towards the tv, i think the songs and tv colours must catch his attention.
hehe sophie is angel!
jenjams - i know what you mean, when DH cmes home, lakshman jsut looks at him. i guess thats what happens when they see you all day and then have the novelty of daddy coming home.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome girls :D
Prama - good on u for travelling o/s with poopy - i was considering going on hols as well with the little one but than thought it wouldnt be much of a rest.... im going to hold out till he is 6/7 months b4 going so at least i know he has started solids and i can leave him with my parents - although i will miss him terribly.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE!!! XXX:clap: WELL DONE ON ALL UR HARD WORK WITH UR BUDDLE OF JOYS.
-
Thanks Ania! We went to visit our friends yest at Dee Why (Poopy's first trip to the beach!) and it was good fun. they travelled with a 1 yr old to the UK and she said it wasnt easy! I was worried abt a 4 mth and she said it would be heaps easier!
Poopy gave me a wonderful mother's day pressie - he slept from 10.30 to 7.30, well i had to wake him up for a feed cos we're going out and i was getting too full and uncomfy.
DH made a french toast in bed!!
HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY, ALL YOU LOVELY GORGEOUS MOTHERS XOXXOXO
-
Happy Mothers Day!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you all have a lovely day!!!!! :) :)
-
Happy Mother's Day ladies. Hope you are all being just a little bit spoilt. I got a cuppa in bed this morning and no sooner was it put on my bedside table DS woke up wanting to be fed !!! Typical. I am sure he hears the kettle boiling in his sleep.
Prama - hope you had a great day in Dee Why. Its just gorgeous ther eisn't it. I used to live at Dee Why beach before moving over to Perth.
-
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE.
I have had a lovely morning, I was woken at 6am and given my pressies and then got to go back to sleep until 10am. I then had brekky in bed and have just had a bath. I feel very relaxed!
Have a great day everyone
Sue
-
Prama - glad u had a wonderful day at DEE WHY - my parents are always up that way.. they love it... I agree also with your friend the younger the bub the better - i think b/c they are a bit more settled and dont run around too much and sleep more... sooooooooooo jealous your bub slept that long - but i hope you got a good rest in between... i hate waking them for a feed especially when they look soooo peaceful.
Hope all of u girls had a wonderful day.xxx
-
Hi all,
I hope everyone had a very special (first) mothersday!
Ania - welcome to the group! Joshua is gorgeous.
Jasper slept for the first time in his own room overnight the night before mothersday; and he slept for 11 hours. Last night we did the same and he slept for 12.5 hours! I just wish I could do the same; I miss him too much and I don't trust the monitor yet, so I keep waking up... and then the very full boobies too. But I suppose we'll get used to it soon; this is certainly nothing to complain about! His daysleeps are getting better; he sleeps quite well; only for 45 minute stints, but he goes down a lot easier.
Besides that, he is changing sooo much; looking at and playing with his hands all the time, gooing and gaaing and smiling; so much fun! He tries to pull everything towards his mouth. He also pulls himself up if I hold his hands, but he still doesn't like tummytime; he doesn't even try to lift his head whatever I try to do to encourage him (lying on the floor with him, towel underneath his chest, toys in front of him). Does anyone have any other tricks I can try? Should I be worried about this?
-
WOW esme thats fantastic - what a great mothers day gift for sleeping so long ;) At least u got to rest..... Joshua was the same at the beginning (dont want to frighten u) and than he changed and didnt slep at night - but i think it had a lot to do with wat the paediatrician said to me (poor weight gain at 6 weeks) and made me stress out - hence i think passing it onto him.... but yesterday he was such a good boy - he feel alseep by himself...although at the start i do have to lull him to sleep (hubby's fault) and at night he was just a gem sleep now for 5 hours as opposed to 2 hrs (which has been going on for the last 2 weeks). My hubby and i got some rest :)
It exciting when they start communicating with you... tummy time with me is also a bit of a burden - he has to be in a good mood...otherwise he will cry.... usually if he wakes up in a good mood i will do a bit of tummy time and sometimes after a feed - but not straight away.... when they want to put their head up they will dont fret. Joshua actaully rolled 2 weeks ago... it was so exciting... but i have to tell hubby not to leave him alone....
JJ - i know what u mean about about daddy situation - at night i cant get him to fall asleep with me... its all about daddy and his time with him.... as soon as i hand him over to dad he is fast asleep in less than a minute - i reckon its b/c he can smell the milk...hahahaha my sister in law was the same - but as they get bigger it will be all mummy mummy and than u wish they there will be some daddy time in there.
-
esme - a quick one..
poopy doesnt like his tummy time on the floor. i put him on the sofa and he's much happier and actually lifts his head up. i sit on the floor so we're eye to eye and make sure he doesnt fall. i put him close to the edge, so him body is on the sofa and sort of over the edge so it forces him to lift his head. i also tried on his change table, better than floor, not as good as sofa.
bbl booby call
-
Prama, good idea about the sofa! Will have to give that a go...Noah hates tummy time too!
-
Luke hates tummy time as well but I think is slowly getting slightly better. I try to encourage him to lift his head and use his shoulders/back by having him chest to chest with me while sitting reclined a little on the softa and getting him to look at me.
Esme - great news on the sleep and congralutions on the transition to his own room. I am sure your BB will sort themselves out pretty soon if he keeps up those great nights.
How does everyone get their little ones to go to sleep. When they are tired do you just wrap them up and put them in bed? Or rock/pat until just about to doze off? Put down to sleep? Use a dummy? Let cry ?
I seem to be having more and more difficulty getting DS off to sleep both day and night and just wanted to know what you are all doing. Is it a 3 month thing due to him being more alert etc that will pass? Its driving me mad.
-
jacki - during the day, he has a little bouncer that's padded and can be made flat. i rock him in that, and he falls asleep, only when he's sleepy. i dont wrap him during the day. at night, he has a feed, some cuddles with us in bed and then we wrap him up and put him his bassinet and let him watch his mobile. that helps him drift off and fall asleep. sometimes he does a little cry but not a big one. i think it's just a im sleepy cry. and he falls asleep.
if he has trouble sleeping during the day, i just cuddle him in my arms, sing a lullaby and pat his bum. that helps sometimes.
esme - woo hoo! what asleep. but i know what you mean, when poopy sleeps a bit longer, i still keep waking up to check.
ania - yeah, poopy gets a bit fracus with me cos he can smell the milk. he calms down with daddy.
oh, also with tummy time, the nurse said it's better if they do it with daddy's chest, cos it's flat and it wont make them confused with play and wanting a feed!
poopy hasnt shown any rolling attempts yet, he sortof half turned 2 weeks ago, but i think that was a fluke.
-
Hiya, we dont wrap bubs anymore...A its too hot and B he kicks his way out..lol..so we normally just watch out fr his tired signs, a cranky high pitched whinge,he has a little cuddle, then is put to bed as soon as the eyes close.:D
Night times he goes into his sleeping bag as he is hopeless with keeping the sheets on!
-
oh when we wrap him at tnight, he still manages to get his arms out and stuck in the fold but doesnt kick it cos we tuck him in and put the sheet and blankie really tight. he's like a baby burito
-
WOW - u guys put me to shame putting bubs to sleep - i have to hold him, dummy and all (patting, rocking etc) in my arms than when he is asleep i put him down..... sometimes he wakes up and ihave to do it all again... although i did the control crying it did work but than when he was going thru silent reflux and wind issues that all went out the window.... another big thing for me is he fights his sleeps - its not a little cry its a bog cry so i have to hold him tight in my arms....and the fact that he loves the cuddles. Any ideas how to brake this habit cause im finding it very hard..... and it breaks my heart when he get histerical....
