    Morning Ladies,

has anyone heard of or know anyone that has tried the routines from the book "save our sleep" by Tizzie Hall? Im trying Caleb out on it today, he sleeps really well at night so thats not a problem but his daytime sleeping is pretty whack. I know routines shouldnt be a big priority but i at least want to give it a try, if it doesnt work im not gonna stress and hold him to it.

Josephine: I have not heard of that book but I had been reading a book called babywise. It encourages establishing a routine of feeding. Emily is generally feeding fairly well on 2 1/2 - 4 hours between feeds except for nights. Sometimes we need to wake her to feed if longer than 4 hours but she is now often waking up after three hours. What routines does your book suggest?

We are still having some difficulty with getting Emily to sleep between feeds. She just screams when we try to put her down and even keeps crying and kickingwhen we pick her up. She did it yesterday and stayed awake from about 6pm to 11pm (sleeping for minutes and then waking and crying again). I fed her at six, then at 8pm then at 10pm and got her to sleep at 11pm. I am really not sure why she is doing this as at other times she just happily goes to sleep. She did it again this morning between feeds. I feel terrible that we cannot even calm her but picking her up. Does anyone have any idea of other things I can do? It generally starts 30 mins after a feed and we check her nappy. It is just a normal thing?

Jo- i have that book called save our sleep...good luck, worked 2 days and out the window...will try it again later on,i also have a book called what to expect the 1st year, they say those routine books for sleeping are a load of crap especially since you have a newborn and they will find there sleep pattern(that and every baby is different),,,i had Nixon in a good pattern but the last 3 nights are out the window,he wont go to sleep between 730pm and midnight like he used too,he would rather sleep all day and i have trouble keeping him awake,he goes on his play mat(asleep)in the pram(asleep)in the car(asleep) the bassinette(hell no its evil as its associated with sleep)grrrr little terd!!!
Sounds like there is a few of us going through the same thing, tomorrow night im restarting to the routine, bath bed by 730pm,lets see how that goes, usually i feed him and hes a drunk monkey,,but noooooooo not at night time,i fed him lay him on me,burp him n cuddle then he sleeps n goes in bassinette.,,that not working either
anyway im going to try put grizzle-bum back down,he wont self settle,i did put him in with me the other night in one of those beds that goes in ur bed...lights out, hell no im not co-sleeping,ill never get him out,,,hehe...am gonna try the late night drive tonight if it gets to midnight and he still being a squirrel(thats what dh calls him when he being naughty)
Gonna buy the baby bjorn too...friend got it and swears by it..
cheers n keep smiling thru the tears, tantrums an sleep deprivation
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU ALL

Well so far so good, he stuck to the routine like clockwork and after the 10pm feed he slept till 4.30am and back up again at 7am...

I paid $5 for this routine, here it is for bottlefed newborns aged 2-4 weeks old:

By two weeks your baby should be back at his original birth weight. If your
baby has regained his birth weight and is over 3kg/7lbs, you may advance to
my two to four week routine. If your baby has not regained his birth weight, or
is still under 7lbs/3kg, please stay on the newborn to two week routine until
your baby has reached these goals.

    Feed times Sleep times Bedtime
    7 am 8.15 am 7 pm
    11 am 12.30 pm
    3 pm 4.30 pm
    6 pm
    10 pm

    7 am
Wake your baby up and give him a bottle-feed. You will wake him and feed him
even if he last fed at 5.30 am, so he is always starting his day at the same time
    and on a full tummy.

    8.15 am
Swaddle your baby and put him down in his bed on his back awake and allow
him to self-settle. I recommend you use my safe bedding guide for where you
live as a guide for what bedding to use.

    11 am
Wake your baby up and feed him a bottle.

    12.30 pm
Swaddle your baby and put him down in his bed on his back awake and allow
    him to self-settle.

    3 pm
Wake your baby up and feed him a bottle.

    4.30 pm
Swaddle your baby and put him down in his bed on his back awake and allow
    him to self-settle.

    5.30 pm
Wake your baby up and bath your baby, or give top-to-toe wash.

    6 pm
    Feed him a bottle.

    7 pm
Swaddle your baby and put him down in his bed on his back awake and allow
    him to self-settle.

    10 pm
Wake your baby up and feed him a bottle.

Your baby will need other feeds in the night but always feed again at 7 am.

lets hope this sticks cos he seems pretty happy with it

Hi all, I just found this thread so hope you dont mind if I join in.
Leighton was born on the 19th Jan weighing 3.8kg (8pnd3 I think) 52 cm long. He wasnt actually due until the 4th Feb but as I had high blood pressure they induced me. Ended up having an emergency c/s as Leighton's heart rate dropped once they broke my waters.
I am really glad that this thread is here. I have been having a bit of a rough time adjusting to my new life.
Leighton is feeding really well and he sleeps pretty good at night only waking every three or so hours for a feed and then settling really quickly. I think he must already have an idea when night time is. During the day he is a bit grizzly. he is suffering a bit from colic at the moment which is really upsetting. His cry sounds like he is in so much pain and then wriggles and squirms like you wouldnt believe. We have taken him to a chiro which is really making a difference.
I dont know anyone who has had a baby (excepy my mum hehe) so may ask lots of questions and advise.

Hi Shan and welcome to our group!

I hope we can help out in any way that you need, feel free to ask as many questions as you like!
Colic is horrible, i hope your little man gets over it soon! Caleb had some colic last week and we used Gripe water (you can buy it from the pharmacy for under $10) he hated the taste but it got the wind up and he was better in a few days.

    Hi guys!

    Welcome Shan

We had a much better night last night. Jared's still waking every 3-4hrs, but that's completely normal and I can cope with it as long as Ben sleeps or DH is home - which he was last night. Unfortunately DH works five nights a week, sometimes six so it makes it difficult. If I remember correctly though, Ben was much better after five or six weeks so I'm hoping that Jared will be the same. I know you shouldn't compare your kids, but they're so similar in looks and temperament that it's hard not to!!!

Jo, that's great that that routine is working for you. I've never tried to follow a routine, I just go with the flow, I don't think I'm disciplined enough to stick with it!

I can't remember who mentioned the hug-a-bub? Me-Lisa? Anyway, we have one and LOVE it. It was absolutely wonderful with Ben and I've already used it a couple of times with Jared. They both loved/love being close to me or DH and with the HAB you can even bend forward and their head is supported so you really are handsfree. I know it looks complicated to tie up, but really it only takes one or two goes at it and you are an expert. I used it up until I got pregnant again, so Ben was a year old and still loved being in it. I'm finding it really handy now when Ben needs me and Jared wants to be held.

Geez, I rambled on about that for a while And no, I'm not being paid by HAB

Gotta go, Jared's stirring and my boobs just did a massive (and painful!) letdown

Firstly welcome Shan and your son Lleyton shares the same birthday as my boy Nixon..Dont feel bad about adjusting to your new life and motherhood, hell i cry every 2nd day at the mo...lol and its not PND its tired n drained and i have a few issues with my iron levels and also im on thyroid medication and thats outta whack so i too am a walking space cadet...

Jo-Well done on the routine with Caleb, gee your doing well,he sounds like a good feeder and sleeper,my squirrel is a bugger to get to feed,im lucky i can get him to have 100ml on the bottle, hes a lazy feeder and falls asleep...he could sleep in a hurricane my kid, except the odd night, hates going down in the bassinette, day or night.good to hear caleb sleeping through,i can get about 4 hours outta nixon at night then he wakes,he hates having the slighest wet nappy etc, during the day i struggle keeping him wake,he loves the car and pram, today we went to that big park in essendon with the lake and walked around,he was asleep on and off but loved it,so did we..

Also just wanna ask has anyone been getting snappy at there partners,i have, gee i feel bad, that and i been having the odd cry..i dont feel depressed though,am happy just feeling unwell physically and tired and not getting much love n cuddles of DH as hes tired n trying to help me and run my business...im such a needy sook atm...lol

Well looks like im gonna have to start the routine all over again tomorrow, Craig let me sleep in today to look after Caleb and i got up when we are supposed to be putting Caleb to sleep and Craig had put him down an hour earlier and had fed him at a completely differnt time!!!! so now its all out of whack, i nearly cried, we had such a good thing going and he goes and does that!!! I was so mad but what can i do about it, its done now. Lets hope its not too confusing for the poor little man and we can re establish it tomorrow, im not gonna try today, that would mean either letting him sleep double or staying up double the time and i cant do that to him, thats kinda mean.

Son - i still have moments where i want to cry, and as for snapping at DH, i did it yesterday constantly, i dont even know what i was snappy for,t here was no real reason! apparantly the hormones do this to us for about 6 weeks after birth so not long to go now.

What do i do about the sun? Caleb hates the sun on his face, it looks like it actually hurts his eyes, you know like when you are really tired and you go outside and the sun hurts your eyes and you cant open them? thats what he acts like. Should i keep him out of the sun or try and get him used to it??

Anyway, i need some breaky then off to church

    Ciao
